Well my friends I know this is not a new topic for you but I'm really searching for a definite solution !!
I have my note for 2 weeks now , from day one it stucked in the starting Samsung model screen and freezes , I considered that a bootloop issue and I followed instructions and I restarted it without the micro sd card and it started well BUT since then I experienced a random restarts and freezes without any related action , it did this by itself , even when its screen locked ?
That's so frustrating , I tried everything possible but the problem still there , it seems it likes to restart very much , the freezing issue occur less frequently but it happened sometimes when I tried to answer a call or in the middle of apps using or apps updates ???
SHOULD I consider it a defective unit or it's a software bug we should wait to be fixed through Samsung ??
Should I get ride of it or just to wait , please need your advice desperately , thanks.

Which region, what is the firmware it came with? Did you update it? If you are facing issues out of box and with out sdcard then you should check check were you bought the device for replacement

You are not alone, my fix worked for a week or two but it's not perfect but at least it doesn't reboot as often as before. A huge improvement.

Just goto wifi settings with wifi on. Select advanced settings. Untick allow scanning. And voila.
It's unchecked from the begining

Hi,
Thanks so much , my problem is a copy from yours , even my handset is XME ( Malaysian ) , removing the SD card and reset partially solves the frequent boot as yours but never permanently solve it , I'm still facing the self-reboot and infrequent freezing issues , I'm out of my 45 days replacement time of eBay and warranty is based on Malaysia and I'm in US , is it a software bug will be fixed or a hardware issue needs replacement ?
Frustrating !!

Next time don't buy hardware electrical things at eBay. You can't assure the units came from where, whether it is original lemon set or not.
Try hard reset and don't restore anything, see any problem or not as sometimes it is due to apps you had install especially if it is not from original source.
it's Brand New Sealed with Warranty !!

The unit I got is from power US seller , I need it unlocked because I travel a lot and actually it came Originally sealed with it's papers and warranty , problem is Samsung warranty is local not like Apple , it's accepted only in original country of sale , on the other hand I didn't install anything from outside google play and I didn't root ( yet )
Do you think it's a hardware issue ??
Since updating to 4.4.2 I experience random reboots. No solution yet.

Did you have external SD card, read certain SD card make the phone auto restart. Another is certain bad design case will make it keep auto restarting if the case had blocking the power button.
So far mine one working perfectly, didn't ever auto restart itself once before.

I wouldn't be surprised if our handsets have a hardware issue. People keep suggesting things that I know I have tried, I am not sure about you. Like, factory reset the device, do the whole microSD and sim card removal steps, the wifi "solution", etc.
I installed Cyanogenmod a few times and boy were those quick reboots vicious (I didn't do my fix on it in Cyanogenmod though and they were very early releases). I have a feeling that it's the RAM causing these issues.
If you are positive that you cannot get the handset replaced, then you could as well give my method a try.
Root.
Find an app that forces the CPU to run on "performance" and on "noop". (The battery life is still surprisingly great, doesn't seem much different and I wasn't expecting that)
See if you can get Titanium Backup and remove those KNOX apps.
I don't rememeber if CyanogenMod still has those CPU settings integrated where you can set the "performance" and "noop" without installing additional apps but this could be another test for you for your satisfaction. Pick TW or AOSP in the end. Whatever you feel comfortable with.

I did the hard reset , WiFi uncheck thing and SD card out , no permanent fix as I said , anyway I'll give your way a try and let you posted , I feel it's a RAM issue as well , no replacement anyway , thanks a lot , I'll keep you posted , appreciated.
Hi Folks,
I have got a strange issue. First let me tell my story. My phone was fallen down 2 weeks before and the screen was broken but the functionality wise(including mobile data), phone was good. After 4 days, i replaced the screen from customer care, after that my sim card was not getting any signals. then i gave back to customer care and they fixed the problem with in 5 minutes. (On the same day night, my phone was fallen again to water, fortunately nothing happened, only the speaker was acting weird, it went OK after sometime)
Here the problem part starts, after the screen replacement, for the first time i turned on the mobile data on my phone. then magnetic sensor weird issue started. When the mobile data is on, the phone feels some magnetic noise and the S view cover display will flash through screen. This will happen like once in few minutes or in a such gap. it will just flash for 1 sec and go. When the mobile data is OFF/ in the flight mode, the issue never occurs. Any idea on this
I ran few tests, the results are in the attachment, i changed SIM and the behavior is same.
When i contacted the customer care, they said they have seen this issue and they can make it good by installing fresh s/w again. But my phone is out of warranty(so i need me pay for this) and i already tried cleaning my phone, wiping everything, installing fresh ROM's..
But nothing does the job
The issue is resolved by installing the latest Black edition firmware (from Samsung service center)
iSsue is coming again, s view is flashing when i am on a call or mobile data is on.

Warranty Issue ? But i will keep that screw safe with me so that whenever some problem arises i can put it back
I had the same issue on my I9500. It happens due to faulty magnet sensor.
I had to follow up with Samsung Service Center to replace the entire screen again because the sensor is a part of it. Take a video of the issue with some other phone, it helps to explain the Samsung Service.
Same issue I had with my phone. New mainboard and new screen didn't fix it. The magnetic sensor is part of the screen assembly.
Only thing that fixed it for me was to either run a CM11 based ROM or just set my mobile data to WCDMA only.
Problem hasn't returned once since I made that change.
PS: The L1 screw method didn't work for me

Well the screw issue does not work for all. Its is just a way ok keeping it away from bwing magnetized. Nothing more. Because the senor is locayed somewhat there, then the screw works as a potential magnet.
And about the edge and w+ thing, can someone tell me how that works technically ?

As you unscrew it do it with extra caution and precautions and with a proper screw driver because in India, to be soo true, the SSC guys have a habit of checking the screws and if they find any thing weird they straight away say "ye kahin se khulwaya tha kya" (did you get it opened from some local shop) amd start showing it to the other engineers and everyone of them will say "haan haan haan, lagta hai" (yes, we think)
So it gets a bit embarassing.
And if you can..get a plastic screw from some shop (if you find any) and place it instead to fill the void.

i have shown them the recorded video but they got no idea of the issue... they are clueless!
And unfortunately Screen Change didn't work for me i even doubt if magnetic sensor is a part of screen assembly

The only thing left for me right now is to remove the screw! Everything else has failed
BTW i did tell those stupids at the service centre that a simple screw change will do as it's getting magnetized from magnetic sensor but still they couldn't help me with the issue.
What if my issue never gets resolved ? Ain't i entitled for a exchange of phone ?

Bro if you had "searched", there was no need of this thread. Its the 10th or the 20th of the same kind.
Plus if you want to exchange it and still something like this happens then?
Its not that an issue. Your phone is just 2 months old you cant even root it. If you couldve, then any CM rom or an xposed module wouldve done wonders.

Well touchwiz based roms might have this problem.
There is a huge difference between CM roms and TW roms.
And also S view cover works only with TW based roms..so..blinking is a hard to digest fact on CM based roms.

Uhhh...he did not mention which roms..
CM does not have any provision for the sview cover so how can itthe screen flash :/
CM based roms and Custom Touchwiz roms are different!
Touchwiz is just like the samsung we are using having mostly samsung stuff and look and feel is just like of samsung.
CM based roms are pure android. They are very stable and have no such thing as samsung apps or samsung's stuff.
A CM based rom looks as if we are using nova launcher (if you just use the launcher from play store, youll get a feel of CM roms) but CM roms infact are lighter, faster and smoother as they are pure android.

i would say with yours mate thats just the update being a pain? rather than a real serious issue, theres a thread on xda relating to this update just search for that thread bud
Its strange so far with this s4
ive replaced the battery with a battery from ebay, looks like an official samsung one..no difference
reverted to stock..no change still reboots.
tried a few custom roms, reboots occurs. tried google edition, still the same
lowered processor speed, for some reason when i go to rom toolbox the phones whacking out at 1820 mhz..i dont know if thats normal?
another strange issue. When the phone switches on it takes a fair while for the mobile network to connect, ive owned a fair few phones but this one really does take a long time,
anyone have any idea at all, before i got to send it back to samsung and wait for 5 years to get it back
If it shuts down and you can't reboot anymore, then it's a hardware issue.

Hello, im using dualboot with ovrdrive as my first rom and resurrectionremix as my second rom. Yesterday a friend of mine was about to pass me something through nfc and it didnt work. I also tried with resurrectionremix too and it is not working. I tried to locate any apps related to nfc and forced them to close, and it didnt work either. I tried reflashing each rom first cleaning the system, and it didnt work. Can an application be messing up my nfc? If not, what could be the issue?
Do you still have the original Battery Cover? the NFC Antenna is on the inside of the stock Battery cover. Any 3rd party Covers that do not have the antenna may not let NFC work.

Hey guys I have a issue with my S5 keeps freezing and vibrating twice before rebooting constantly I have tries flashing stock firmware via odin, repartitioning, custom roms, updated modems and still it keeps doing it at random intervals.
The other day it ran for about 48 hours without freezing but I have no idea what I did or didnt do that caused it any help would be much appreciated.

Since you tried all software fixes you could think of, problem's in hardware. Try another battery and see then. If even then it reboots it's something far more important than the battery and you're screwed :| (have to give it to repair shop).

I assume you've done a factory reset too btw. If not, do one and see then as apps tend to cause bugs sometimes.

I have sometimes it works fine for a few days then it starts doing it again, wondering if it's worth trying to open it on my own to see what the issue may be or just wiggle some connections to see if something may not be connected properly idk at this point but it is strange

If it was me I'd just take it to the repair shop. But if you know hardware stuff maybe you can try. I don't, I'm a software guy Anyway, good luck.

I had the same problem and fixed it by changing to a new battery. It seems that the older battery doesn't hold enough peak charge whenever the CPU tried to stay at 100%.
already tried changing batteries that did not work for me.
Time for the repair shop route.. Or if it cost to much to fix, you can find a good used or new for cheap on ebay or swappa.
