[Q] Worth buying a Lost IMEI G2 ? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. So I have the opportunity to change my S3 with a black G2 that has a problem. the seller tried to root it, it got stuck to the LG logo, and then after he fixed it it says that it has the IMEI lost, but it has signal on all carriers (is it posible) ? i've searched online, and it seems like it is possible to fix it, but in many places I see that you need to restore the already backed-up EFS. And in some other places with that LG Octoplus box. Like here: it seems really really is, but is it like that. If i find a written tutorial like this: http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-backup-and-restore-lost-imei-on-lg-g2/ it is a lot more complex.
So now want your verdict. Should I buy it, or not ? I ask you here because you owned the phone for a longer time, and you know what it should be done. thanks for your help !:good:

Well from my experience helping people in this forum, a G2 that has lost its IMEI and doesn't have a backup of its OWN EFS partition can pretty much only be used as a tablet. So no, that would be a bad idea. Also, how can it still get signal when its IMEI is erased? That's not possible

Ok. Thanks. I saw that tutorials with Octoplus that didn't seem to involve restoring something.

actually imei is recoverable
got my phone sent back from LG with new mother bored did a twrp restore including EMF like a nab
Blank imei
managed to restore it by manually writing it to device using the imei wrote on label
took some reading up

[q] imei repair

Hi all,
Apologies but I am real new to this and not sure if I am doing it right.
My Galaxy S I9000 on day stopped receiving and making calls. To cut a long story short after a million calls to my network found that my IMEI was not the same as the one on the back of my phone and told me I have tried to Jailbreak it (whatever this means) and nobody will take responsibility for it. After much heartache I had to purchase a new phone as I really need it.
Now my Galaxy S I9000 is a pc. Works perfectly on the net, games, videos etc but cant make calls or receive them. All I can think is that my 3 year old did something to it while playing games.
I wonder if the IMEI number can be restore, this should be legal as the phone is mine and I just want to repair it.
I am absolutely useless at all the jargon so I will pretty please ask for plain plain english.
Thanks for your help in advance.
I`ts illegal to modify the IMEI.So noone can help you here.Even if that means restoring it to the original.
Flash a new stock rom. This will usually solve your problem.
If something has overwritten your IMEI details, I.e "jailbreaking" or updating firmware. Then flashing a stock ROM will not help. It's near to impossible to change the IMEI data as it is encrypted information.
What may be a possibilty is restoring the backup file located in your /efs filesystem. I have done this before and worked flawlessly
How much experience do you have within linux/android?
EDIT: Backup your /efs filesystem first.
What you will have to do first is move the nv_data.md5 to say.....nv_data.md5.old. Reboot the phone, if it is recreated, then you should be good to go to attempt a recovery to your IMEI.
You must have root access. Do not flash a new level of firmware yet. Type in to *#1234# and reply with what it says :-D
I'm going to try and find my old post on another forum which should help you.

How is this even possible to change the IMEI number ???

Same question here. If it's possible, than the existence and purpose of the IMEI would be pointless.
Some googling brought up similar threads here on xda and other forums. One guy posted something like this, hopefully it will work:
Hey guys, I flashed back to JPY (single file - no 512 pit) and on reboot it came up with a load of errors. On recovery screen, I formatted everything, wiped the partition and formatted the internal sd. Rebooted the phone and everything was fine.

I cannot post link to the original topic because of my post number.
I hope this helps, I didn't test it myself (because I didn't have this kind of trouble).

Need HELP to unbrick Nexus 4!

Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
My N4 is from PlayStore USA, and I live outside of US. A few days ago I did a stupid mistake and flashed a wrong bootloader (please don't ask why - the embarrassment still hurts! ). The N4 is now totally dead - cannot be turned on, and won't boot no matter which sets of buttons I hold down.
I have been searching the net for solutions but have not found any simple enough (for me) solution. I read of several similar cases and the solution has been to send back to Google/LG. As I live outside of US, this isn't much of an option. I have also read about use of Gtag to unbrick devices but this is beyond my capability and this service is also not available in my country. Sending the N4 to my local LG service centre for repairs (there's no International warranty) is a last resort but I am not sure whether they have tbe tools and knowhow to unbrick my N4. They may not even want to get involved!
So I am writing in this forum to ask for help. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Why the hell would you even flash the bootloader manually?
Anyway, there was a thread recently about Qualcomm's debugging mode. However, you'll need the appropriate drivers and most likely other software for it to work.
I don't know if anyone actually got it working, though
I dont know why I did it too - just following wrong instructions ; out of sheer stupidity!

download the quacomm usb high speed drivers and install them you might have to do have disk to install them in device manager. then doqnload the QPST qualcomm tool. this will allow you to flash phone images and other files here. It should pick your phone up in download state. Only problem now is that the Qualcomm tool only allows hex image files to be flashed. this is where i was stuck
Thanks for the qualcomm suggestion. I will look through it when I return to my home country in a week`s time. But from what you have described, the procedure seems too complex for me. I am also following the other `bricked Nexus 4` thread in this section which I was not aware of till yesterday. All indications are that my bricked Nexus 4 will be a total loss - LG in my country has told me that they will not touch my unit until Nexus 4 is officially launched in my country (that could be a couple of months away), and returning the unit back to Google USA will be extremely difficult, complex and cumbersome as I just learned that the unit has to be returned by the original purchaser from USA (I bought the N4 from a 3rd party in my country). Its an expensive mistake and I can only blame myself for the stupid mistake I made.
Thats how far i got with my bricked nexus thing was there was no images in hex to flash. the only thing i can think of is that you coulld try acking up a phone in QPST and the flash to bricked one. but you would need to enter the *# code to change usb on working phone to diagnostics

[Q] Serial Number on Refurbed i337 for AT&T

Hello All,
I seem to have made a very fatal mistake. I didn't realize at the time that the MF3 firmware had locked down more than before. I tried to flash CWM and it would seem that I failed miserably. I am currently stuck with the Downloading screen upon power up. I was going to try restoring with Kies since I cannot use ODIN because of the auth failure. One of the fun things is, I have recently replaced the handset due to a hardware failure, and there is no serial number on this label under the battery. I still have my old box for my original box, but there is no serial number there either. Anyone have any idea how I can proceed?
Thanks!
I think you're in line for a new refurb. You're stuck were you are. No way to repair it. You're going to have to see if you can get whom ever sent it to you to send a different one.
Ps, this should have been in q&a.

Weird error flashing back to stock. D800

Background
Phone: LG G2 D800.
Where problem Arised: Flashing Paranoid Android Rom, missed a step. Forgot to install the boot image (I think)
Current Things not working: TWRP Recovery disappeared ( I really have no clue what the hell happened to it. Just not able to get into it anymore), Phone is in boot loop at PA loading screen. Using LG Flash tool , I keep getting an error telling me that I have the wrong .bin for my phone, but I'm certain the dll and tot I attempted to install are for my phone model. Meanwhile, LG mobile support tool freezes when trying to check my phone settings.
What is working: I can definitely get into download mode. So maybe there's still hope.
Any help guys?
I'm seriously stumped. Gonna maybe try emergency on LGNPST
I think this is the definition of hard brick. send it in, paid the cash to get it fix, get it back, read instruction carefully and flash.
Any good services you know of?

On this topic, do you know a good place I can send it in to be fixed? And what method do they use, if so?
Cause I'm only really going to send it in at this point if it's a jtag flash. They tend to be really quick, and I haven't lost hope with it just yet .

Binary backup of system to another s4 (same variant)

Is it possible to backup an android device (in my case gs4 variant) entirely as in system as binary.img file?
I'll explain more about what I mean by binary backup as follow up.
I have gs4, dropped it several times (I'm clumsy) now finally digitalizer and screen is completely dead. It used to be rooted and have CWM recovery.
I have another gs4 I got from my brother as he got new phone and we used same carrier both are sgh-i337m (should be internally same as i9505)
Now I want to keep all the settings and apps files etc. (Litterally everything)
Reason is because I don't like changes unless absolutly neccessary. (Heck I'm still using rotary as home phone)
So, only way (without costing me money) I can find possible was binary backup. Dump everything from the eMMC of my old phone to the other one.
Is this possible in anyway? If I use ADB or someway? By the way old one is completely blacked out and not recognizing any touch input.
I googled and searched for such information in XDA couldn't find one myself.
Please help. Thanks in advance
Easiest way may be to moved the motherboard from one phone to the other if both phones are the same model. I have done this several times with the i337m with no loss of data.

If you happen to have TWRP recovery installed on both of your phones, you can use that to create a backup of your old phone (to an sdcard) and restore it on your new phone.
But swapping the motherboards is probably faster
If the screen of the device the OP wants to 'clone' is non functional, TWRP isn't going to be much help.....
Regarding the step by step disassembily tutorial, this video by LE55ONS on YouTube is just what you're after.....
