Hi all,
Apologies but I am real new to this and not sure if I am doing it right.
My Galaxy S I9000 on day stopped receiving and making calls. To cut a long story short after a million calls to my network found that my IMEI was not the same as the one on the back of my phone and told me I have tried to Jailbreak it (whatever this means) and nobody will take responsibility for it. After much heartache I had to purchase a new phone as I really need it.
Now my Galaxy S I9000 is a pc. Works perfectly on the net, games, videos etc but cant make calls or receive them. All I can think is that my 3 year old did something to it while playing games.
I wonder if the IMEI number can be restore, this should be legal as the phone is mine and I just want to repair it.
I am absolutely useless at all the jargon so I will pretty please ask for plain plain english.
Thanks for your help in advance.
I`ts illegal to modify the IMEI.So noone can help you here.Even if that means restoring it to the original.
Flash a new stock rom. This will usually solve your problem.
If something has overwritten your IMEI details, I.e "jailbreaking" or updating firmware. Then flashing a stock ROM will not help. It's near to impossible to change the IMEI data as it is encrypted information.
What may be a possibilty is restoring the backup file located in your /efs filesystem. I have done this before and worked flawlessly
How much experience do you have within linux/android?
EDIT: Backup your /efs filesystem first.
What you will have to do first is move the nv_data.md5 to say.....nv_data.md5.old. Reboot the phone, if it is recreated, then you should be good to go to attempt a recovery to your IMEI.
You must have root access. Do not flash a new level of firmware yet. Type in to *#1234# and reply with what it says :-D
I'm going to try and find my old post on another forum which should help you.

Same question here. If it's possible, than the existence and purpose of the IMEI would be pointless.
Some googling brought up similar threads here on xda and other forums. One guy posted something like this, hopefully it will work:
Hey guys, I flashed back to JPY (single file - no 512 pit) and on reboot it came up with a load of errors. On recovery screen, I formatted everything, wiped the partition and formatted the internal sd. Rebooted the phone and everything was fine.

I cannot post link to the original topic because of my post number.
I hope this helps, I didn't test it myself (because I didn't have this kind of trouble).

Well the question is will it help if I back up the EFS(or how ever that folder that holds the IMEI and the network settings called) can I use it later to fix any issues of that sort if I ever encounter those?
The reason I am asking this question is due to the fact I f***ed my GT-I9300 up. I wanted to install a custom rom, installed PhilZ Touch Recovery. The recovery failed to wipe the data properly 3 times(*DERP* probably is the cause to the issue). After installing the rom(tried several roms!) every thing seemed to work properly except the cellular network, the phone recognized the SIM and found the network but didn't connect and showed Network: Unknown. I tried using a APN, didn't help, tried a friends SIM to check if it was the SIM same result. Reverted to full factory stock and still the same, after the revert to full stock I sent the phone to warranty repair.
P.S.
Has anyone had an issue like this or something similar with their GT-I9300?
All this and more answered in the sticky thread of this forum, efs backup is the most important step -as you will find if you read the guides.
Network unknown is asked several times a day, hence why this thread will probably be locked.

Anyway thanks for the answer

Still trying to get service
So, I have posted on this in here on another persons thread with no response. Much like my other post here. Zero response. Figure Ill try one more time.
Samsung i9500 on official 4.2.2 rooted, busybox, philz recovery. IMEI is right, SN is right but still not registering on network.
I have read and read. tried a million different methods and even replaced the sim/sd card holder in the phone physically. No change. Still not registered.
This isssue started before I flashed the official 4.2.2 rom. Phone worked, then suddenly nothing. So I flashed official 4.2.2, went back to official recovery to no avail. Thats when I changed the physical sim/sd holder itself. Nothing changed. Almost every tut ive found have to do with a null or 0049 IMEI number or a bad SN. This is not the case with my phone.
Please, any help would be appreciated.
As a side note, at the same time as the not registered error my phone stopped reading the sd card that has been in it from the day it came out of the box.
TIA
Please help!
Please, anyone with insight into this please help. I'm not looking for someone to do the footwork for me. I've been at this quite sometime, I'm not a noob, I've been at it for almost 10 hours straight just today. I've done every possible thing I can think of and that I've read. I'm on a junky Alcatel one touch that I can barely make calls on. This s4 is my business and I'm losing tons of business not being able to use my phone. Thanks
56 views and no responses. What am I doing wrong here?
76 views. Starting to wonder what the deal is here. I see tons of people's questions being answered over the last couple days and I can't even get a FU. Someone, show me some love.
Due to all the no help I got here and the fact I have done absolutely everyrhing I could to fix this issue, I went out and bought an s5. So I guess ill continue to plug away at the s4 hoping to fix it and hopefully recoup a few of the hundreds the s5 cost me.
Ill post any results I get here to hopefully help someone else that wont get any answers here.
102 views now. Amazing. Still not a single response.

You should create a own thread. Your issues have nothing to do with these tools. I don't think these thread are read by people with experience on these issues.
If your issues started suddenly, then my guess would be that it's a hardware problem. It doesn't sound like a software problem.
You could try updating to the latest firmware though and perform a factory reset. You could also try a different sim card and see if that fixes anything.
I don't think it will work, but you could try. If it doesn't work, then it's probably a hardware failure.
I also think it sounds like a possible hardware failure
Maybe take it to a Samsung service centre?

I thought this was a seperate thread. And I figured it must have something to do with this since it's a not registered on network issue.
What do you mean by hardware issue?

That you might have some motherboard failure since you already replaced the sim/sd card part.
Gotcha. Wish there was a way I could be positive it was a hardare failure. Although all things do point to that. Also, just want to say I appreciate you responding to my questions.
backed up manually EFS folder with root browser
I manually backed up the efs folder using a root explorer. Do I just copy/paste the contents of the backup to the EFS folder?
I decided to try a custom rom and, logically, took every precaution possible. When flashing, the ROM (Archidroid) gave me the option to install a new modem (I9300XXUGNA8). After installation, phone cannot register to network even though it detects them. Flashed back to previous rom but the modem number is the same. Now can't register to any network. Is this a problem with the EFS folder? or maybe I should flash another modem? or a stock rom?
I appreaciate greatly any help on the matter. many thanks in advance!
Galaxy S3 Emergency calls only Issue
Hey have installed miui rom in my galaxy s 3 and i donot have efs backup and i am facing a problem of emergency calls only... please help me its very urgent
Hello guys!
I'm in need of a help here. I have selected the infamous USA radio band on my Moto X Play XT1562/EU/6.0.1 and now only have access to 4G network, no calls available.
As i don't have access to a a computer atm, can anyone make a backup of modem and fsg partition using Partitions Backup app, upload it, or send it to me privately.
I know about the erase modemst1/2 commands, they work, i purposely selected the USA band again, to see, if i can fix this problem without a computer. I don't really understand why such a thing is so hard to revert...
I tried flashing the modem firmware with Flashfire by extracting the FW files from stock ROM, but no success so far. Maybe if i use the PB app and try restoring the partition from there, it would revert back to normal EU band. I'm highly doubtful this works though.
I would appreciate if anyone would make that backup and upload, any other suggestions on how to revert the problem without using fastboot/adb would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Not possible. Get a computer, download whatever brand stock rom, extract the required files and flash it. You can find more information on this in the General section as there are threads regarding stock firmware downloads.
Alright, thanks for the answer. I'm still puzzled as why this is so hard to revert though.

When you flash system it ovewrites the target location and deletes what was previously there. In order to revert it you need to flash the original, and the easiest way to do so is with a computer. If you had made a backup before making changes then you wouldn't be in this situation mate

I understand, but still, just one click and it lets overwrite such critical information all too easily, if i was a total noob and not knew how to use google i would be very frustrated. Also, it's a bit of a security flaw in disguise IMO. People with bad intentions can just tap the code on the phone, change the band, and there you have it. The owner would have no calls and no idea what has happened. This is something that phone makers or devs need to take in considersation and possibly change it or remove the option alltogether. I understand laypeople are not supposed to mess with these unknown codes, but curiosity won't let us stop doing stupid things.

Do you frequently hand your phone over and let people reprogram it?
It's not a flaw, it's a feature. Not a useful one to the end user, but a feature none the less. That is like blaming an oven manufacturer, or the water company when you burned yourself on boiling water on top of it.
Alright, well i did exaggerate a bit but, still. Too easy to mess up and not so easy to revert is my point. I don't even understand why this feature is available. What purpose does it serve? Who wants to permanently switch to USA band without having an option to switch back to the old one. This is a bit mystical.
So, basically I deleted my EFS partition folder by 'accidently' fastboot erasing all on my phone. For those who have no idea what the EFS partition is, it's what contains the IMEI which connects the phone to mobile networks. So I have basically deleted the one thing my phone should be able to do: call and text. There are many apps which allow you to take backups of the EFS partition and edit them. What I am asking of ANYONE at all is if they can take a backup and set the value of the IMEI to 0, so I can then take it, put in my IMEI, and then get my phone working again.
I know that there will be people telling me ways to fix it, including:
Flashing stock ROM
By flashing another ROM
Trying to find the IMEI and fix it, it's probably corrupted (No, it's not, it's gone)
So, anyone out there with either a XT1572 or a XT1575 willing to help me, I would take any answers on this. Thanks all for helping if you had, you are pretty much my last hope. Thanks.
pls people halp me ;-;
What and how do you need? Let me know what to do
Sent from my XT1572 using XDA-Developers mobile app
People are very suspicious of posts like this, the EFS folder is encrypted, so getting one from someone else is of little use.
Typically if you don't have a backup, the only recourse is to send it in for reflashing or throw it in the trash, assuming of course you tried to reflash the stock images.
Hi,
I have an LG V20 H910-10c (Nougat 7.0) and I am having an issue that I am praying someone can help me out with. I have already tried a Factory Wipe/Reset and Wipe Dalvik/ART & Cache and have Formatted Data to remove Encryption, etc..
Timeline: The phone worked fine in all aspects before Rooting it.
After Rooting it, I had this issue.
I then tried a Factory Reset and got stuck in a TWRP Bootloop.
I fixed the Bootloop issue with a Reset (Yes then Yes).
The issue is still there.
ISSUE: When I boot into Android, I get the following message;
"LGSmartcardService has stopped"
.....and I cannot use my External SD Card (TWRP sees it fine, I Flashed SuperSU from it).
I have Googled my brains out and simply cannot find any suggestions, except to perform a Factory Reset, which I did and that's what put me into the Bootloop and I reset the way you said and now it boots up okay, except that error message is still there.
I have not put any apps on the phone or anything. It's factory fresh (except for Rooting it).
I hope I'm not violating any rules by posting this, but the page I used to Root it has a REAL SMALL downloadable file called "V20-Root.zip" that contains everything, including the Batch files with the steps that they perform in them. I did NOT use the ROM, as that's ONLY for Sprint users and my phone is an AT&T model (Unlocked and my Carrier is MetroPCS). But I put it here, just in case someone wishes to bless me by taking a look and seeing if there's something to note. I am not a coder by any means. I do understand some basics, but I couldn't see anything that would cause this sort of problem. I did NOT install the ROM listed, because it's for Sprint users ONLY and I have an AT&T (Unlocked, using MetroPCS) H910. Here's the link to the page:
https://tinyurl.com/yacdendm
I really need my Ext SD Card to be seen! I use it extensively and it would be a real hindrance not to have it! Plus this is my ONLY phone (no landline) and I am disabled and must run everything, including my home network and laptop, etc. from it and I need its space for things I have to have available on my phone to do things that I need to do, so any help would be appreciated GREATLY!
Please Help Me and Thank You!
