[Q] Quick question on returning to stock! - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I'm returning my phone under warranty for a replacement but if they detect any evidence of root I'm out $500.
I'm familiar with Odin and flashing a stock image, but how do I actually unroot/lock the device after I flash the stock PDA through Odin?
Thanks!

[Q] Using ODIN to flash stock ROM?

I was rooted with an i337M S4 stock, but I reset my flash counter using triangle away then flashed back to stock ROM (therefore removing root) via ODIN, would my flash counter go up again if I flashed a stock ROM via ODIN? I need to return the phone to Samsung for warranty purposes/ There's no real way to check again on the S4 because the flash counter doesn't show in download mode for the S4's.
The flash counter should not go up. Your not doing anything different than Samsung would do to return to stock.

[Q] leftover folders to remove?

guys,
My I9505 has a hardware problem: the VOL DOWN is unresponsive.
That's a nasty problem, because rebooting the phone gives a lot of problems (warnings about a custom rom, and then nothing works anymore)
So I'd like to return it, but have to restore the phone for warranty.
I managed to flash latest stock MH8.
Here are my questions:
1. before, I've flashed autoroot - does that make the flashcounter go up?
2. before, I've flashed philz recovery - does that make the flashcounter go up?
3. I've flashed the new stock firmware, but still see a clockworkmod folder. can I safely remove that?
4. are there other folders I've to remove to NOT void my warranty?
5. is it necessary/safe to use triangle away on MH8 with the new bootloader?
thanks for any insights!

Be VERY VERY careful if you're running the new knox firmware that you don't trip the eFuse and change KNOX Warranty void status.
If you have flashed stock firmware MH8 in Odin I would simply do a factory reset in the STOCK recovery and wipe everything that way and send to repair centre.
Do not flash ANYTHING custom or otherwise, even older Stock firmware in Odin.
If you do you will trip the eFuse, your KNOX warranty status will change and you'll be f***ed mate.

Thanks, that's very good advice. will keep it in mind.
Do you know the answer to my questions about the flashcounter going up by flashing recoveries in stead of custom roms?
thanks,

Will flashing stock rom via ODIN avoid the warranty?

Will flashing stock rom via ODIN avoid the warranty?
'Cause I'm going to do that, so, does anybody knows that?

Used full tar file on dev device.

All i get now is a bootloop. I have tried flashing back to the nk2 firmware via odin but then it kicks me straight to recovery. It isnt the custom recovery though, so i think i may have locked my bootloader. Is there anything to be done from this? I usually can find my way out of this stuff but I feel like a just wrecked my galaxy s5.
You flashed a retail firmware which locked the bootloader. I'm pretty sure you made a $600 paperweight. Sorry I'm not much help.
Did you backup your developer edition aboot?

Selling a rooted S4, but I want to factory reset. Can I?

Hello
I need to sell my S4, and it is rooted. I'd like to do a factory reset on it, but I ask if doing so will lose root. I rooted it back in 2017, so I don't remember what I did to it, but I assume that I unlocked the bootloader so that I could root.
I can erase all data and pictures and apps manually, and leave it clean AND rooted, but I might prefer to do a factory reset. If I lose root, it won't be a big deal since any potential buyer of this phone might not even know what root is.
Thanks and be safe
Rooting the S4 has nothing to do with the bootloader, if you have a custom recovery installed then you're on the MDL or MDB bootloader which is a rare exploited bootloader. If you want to reset the phone, I would use Odin to do it by flashing the stock firmware you're currently on.

Thanks Stoney.. Might you know where I can find the latest stock odin file?
Sent from my OnePlus7Pro using XDA Labs
That depends on your current bootloader. You can flash the one you're on or flash a newer one. You can't flash an older one after a newer one though. Check your bootloader, if you're on MDL then you need the MDL firmware. If you're on anything else aside MDL then you will need other firmware.
