[Q] leftover folders to remove? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

guys,
My I9505 has a hardware problem: the VOL DOWN is unresponsive.
That's a nasty problem, because rebooting the phone gives a lot of problems (warnings about a custom rom, and then nothing works anymore)
So I'd like to return it, but have to restore the phone for warranty.
I managed to flash latest stock MH8.
Here are my questions:
1. before, I've flashed autoroot - does that make the flashcounter go up?
2. before, I've flashed philz recovery - does that make the flashcounter go up?
3. I've flashed the new stock firmware, but still see a clockworkmod folder. can I safely remove that?
4. are there other folders I've to remove to NOT void my warranty?
5. is it necessary/safe to use triangle away on MH8 with the new bootloader?
thanks for any insights!

Be VERY VERY careful if you're running the new knox firmware that you don't trip the eFuse and change KNOX Warranty void status.
If you have flashed stock firmware MH8 in Odin I would simply do a factory reset in the STOCK recovery and wipe everything that way and send to repair centre.
Do not flash ANYTHING custom or otherwise, even older Stock firmware in Odin.
If you do you will trip the eFuse, your KNOX warranty status will change and you'll be f***ed mate.

Thanks, that's very good advice. will keep it in mind.
Do you know the answer to my questions about the flashcounter going up by flashing recoveries in stead of custom roms?

Knox Status still 0x0, how to proceed ?

Hello Guys,
Let's start with the story :
Old Bootloader, Stock Kernel , PhilZ CMW and Rom XXUDMBA with Chainfire Root.
Then i've installed through CMW the Know Free XXMI1, with Adam Kernel and Modem XXMI1 and still CMW Philz.
Suddenly my phone started to get crazy. Not able to receive calls, pohone freeze , screen blinking etc... Tried with factory and wipe but stucked on S4 logo (not even the samsung one)
Installed, through Odin, the MH8 pre-rooted, Modem MH8, Stock Kernel.
Now i've the new Bootloader, Knox Status stil 0x0, New Modem and New Rom. Everything is working but i've a question.
If i would like to have back the Philz Custom Recovery, flashing with odin, the Knox status will reach 0x1 ?
And why now my device says that my status is modified. I have stock kernel, recovery, rom (just knox free).
and if i would like to update the Rom with a stock one, with knox and all the other s***t, do i need to go necessary through Odin ? because OTA are compromised.
Last question is : Is the wifi-fix mandatory ? i don't know how to know if my wifi has problem. So far seems to work perfectly.

Modified because its pre-rooted...
Flashing anything through ODIN will change the void warranty from 0x0 to 0x1 unless its a stock rom (from MH8 up otherwise you will soft brick)....
You might be able to get rid of the modified status if you flash a totally stock rom but who wants to do that?
So the next question is :
If i would like to flash a new pre-rooted or custom rom i'll void my knox anyway. Because now i have stock recovery and this mean that i can flash only through Kies to a stock Rom right ?
Flashing a custom recovery with Odin (Knox 0x1)
Flashing a stock pre-rooted rom with Odin (Knox 0x1)
Flashing a stock rom newer then mine with kies or Odin (Knox 0x0)
am i right ? so i'm stucked on this ROM in other words, unless i'll just don't care about Knox.

Queries about rooting and unrooting

Hello everyone,
I am newbie and I want to root my Samsung S4 I9500, current on 4.4.2, I9500DDUFN4, India.
I have some question that I want ti clear before going for this new world of rooting.
1. How to unroot again, if I want to revert?
2. What is this knox 0? And seen in some of the thread that rooting will increase counter to x1. So how to revert it to 0 again?
3. As after rooting I would try some of the great customer ROMs. so, after unroorting which official firmware to install at first (means 4.3, 4.4.or 4.4.2?
4. Most imp just after rooting I am gona factory reset my phone and want to take full back of the factory version of phone so that can be used in case I want to revert. So how to do that? is that is called as Nandroid backup?
5. Is knox 0 x1 counter voids warranty?
6. Any other precautions and suggestions for your side?
Basically I want to root, factory reset, take backup, install custom roms. And in case of failure or problem I want to revert to factory version with official rom and with all warranty.
So please explain or links can be also given so that I will learn my own.
Sorry for this long questionnaire.
and THANKS in Advance.

Hi there,
1. How to unroot again, if I want to revert?
You can unroot by flashing Stock firmware or SuperSU has an option for this also!
2. What is this knox 0? And seen in some of the thread that rooting will increase counter to x1. So how to revert it to 0 again?
Once you have tripped the knox flag to 0x1 you CANNOT reverse it back to 0x0
3. As after rooting I would try some of the great customer ROMs. so, after unroorting which official firmware to install at first (means 4.3, 4.4.or 4.4.2?
As you have 4.4.2 firmware already you will not be able to downgrade. You will need to insatll the original 4.4.2 firmware your phone came installed with or higher!
4. Most imp just after rooting I am gona factory reset my phone and want to take full back of the factory version of phone so that can be used in case I want to revert. So how to do that? is that is called as Nandroid backup?
Yes....or you can back it up with a custom recovery such as Philz or flash stock firmware!
5. Is knox 0 x1 counter voids warranty?
Not in the EU (as far as I know)
6. Any other precautions and suggestions for your side?
Yes! Alot more reading my friend before you decide to do anything to your phone. If you are going to install custom roms then you will need a custom recovery (this will trip knox flag)
Recovery - Philz (recommended but not the only custom recovery)
Root - CF AutoRoot (not the only method)
KNOX - Here
Stock ROMs - Here (flashable in Odin)
Good Luck :good:

[Q] Help, I'm 15 and want to unroot and restore to factory settings

Hi, i have note 3 sm n9005 or something and rooted my phone for some stupid reason, its still on stock the only thing that i think happened was i have supersu, i paniced and factory reset, now supersu has a error thing with something to do with binary settings or something. All i want to do it fully reset my phone, if its any help im british with EE... does flashing supersu trip knox counter? Am i actually rooted for if i were to flash stock? Will that trip it? Iv knly had phone few months and im scared... if i flash stock can i then update legally coz i cant update because the device is modified? I used odin... can someone help please, i know nothing and yes, i should look into what im doing more before hand. Can you explain everything and what to do please? Every little thing, please and without tripping knox and as if it was out the box new. Please
Firstly, flashing SuperSU trips KNOX. In the first place, to install SuperSU you need a custom recovery which would ALSO trip KNOX. Flashing back to stock unroots your phone too.
If you are convinced that you have not tripped KNOX, just re flash your phone back to stock with ODIN.

Flashing stock will get rid of SuperSU and root but you cannot reset KNOX. It is permanently 0x1 and will always be.

What about the fact i factory reset? Is it still rooted to flash stock? And doesnt it have to be a unrooted stocked rather than flashing rooted stock? And where do i got stock and do i need to unzip files and stuff?

Reboot in download mode I. E. Volume down+home+power, check the knox counter if it's 0x1 then it has already been tripped and you have been set free ?? and if it's 0x0 you are still locked in a cage.
Report back with what you see.

Yes, if your Knox is still 0x0, flashing stock keeps it 0x0.
Use Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app to check for the Knox Warranty Void status (in the GENERAL INFO section).

[Q] How do i make my i9505 official again after unrooting?

Hi, i rooted my phone and now want to make it official again, i still was using the stock rom on my phone, in su i done a unroot but phone still shows as custom.
can anyone help?
james
If you have a custom recovery, flashing a stock recovery may help. However, I personally recommend flashing a stock ROM through Odin. This will change the status to official, but keep in mind it will not touch the Knox flag if set to 0x1. There is no way to reset the Knox flag, so don't ask.

i9505 Set Warranty Bit: Kernel

Welcome guys,
I have Galaxy S4 and I wanted to install Custom ROM. Unfortunately when I installed TWRP (the newest build), my phone displays "Set warranty bit: kernel" and then it boots into Recovery Mode (twrp works fine), but stock ROM doesn't boot. I don't know how to deal with it. Will custom ROM install fix that problem? I don't want to brick it.
I have access to download mode, TWRP (as I said before, when I turn phone on, it boots into TWRP instantly), but unfortunately ODIN doesn't recognize phone at all.
Please help :crying:
Does the computer recognize the phone?
After installing, did you select the option to allow changes to the internal memory?
Tried different USB cables and USB ports?
If you get the phone recognized by Odin, I suggest flashing a stock ROM via Odin and checking the phone to ensure complete functionality. Once you know the phone is working on a stock ROM, maybe start with an older version of TWRP such as 2.87.
Flashing a custom recovery should not prevent the phone from booting a stock ROM.

I'm such an idiot. When knox is tripped you cant run stock ROM, so basically I just installed LineageOS and it works hah
Tripping knox does not prevent a phone from running a stock ROM.

So it's strange though. I couldnt boot stock ROM and the only thing I had to do was install a custom one. Anyway, thanks for the answer
I've flashed TWRP to a number of Samsung phones which cause Knox to trip and the warranty bit to change from 0x0 to 0x1. Despite this, I have been able to flash and use stock ROMs with a tripped Knox indicator.
Maybe the phone needed a factory reset using the stock recovery after being flashed with Odin?

Aaaand here we got the problem. I tried to install twrp many times and unfortunately the stock one stopped running (dont ask, i dont know how it happened). Despite this everything worked but I wanted to install custom ROM and then that problem happened. It was just the lack (??) of stock ROM or knox blocked the availability to boot it.
Oh, completely forgot. I installed TWRP by LineageOS' tutorial on their page
It all worked out in the end which is the important part.
Thanks for sharing your solution.
