advice for fixing home button? Sprint GS4 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hi, someone in my family just bought a galaxy s4 for sprint. The (edit) home button was not working when she bought it, but I told her to get it because i thought it was an easy fix.
Now i already ordered the home/back/menu flex replacement part on ebay, it hasn't arrived.
Then i watched a video for a non-sprint version, how to replace home button and the process involved removing the digitizer with a heat gun & suction.
Is this the correct process for the SPH-L720? I have some experience with electronics and soldering, but i am slightly hesitant to undergo this operation on my sisters phone. Can anyone give any advice on my situation?
Also note that the charging board just broke so i ordered that too (i looked up a video and that's when i realized i cannot easily replace the home button board). Also the menu capacitive button doesn't light up or work. (Only back, power, volume works). I have accessibility set up now with software buttons.
Thanks for reading.

Has anyone fixed/soldered a broken power button?

I tried to replace my vogue after the screen cracked and power button broke, but Sprint/Asurion want $100 to replace it. Turns out it was only the digitizer that cracked so I'm trying to fix the power button myself, then simply replace the digitizer for ~$10.
My problem is that the power button completely broke off from the mainboard. I tried to solder it back on without a result, and I'm wondering if I'm missing a step. The board has 5 separate solder points, but it looks like only 3 are actually making a connection to the button (so I soldered only those). From the looks of the soft reset button, it seems that the two other solder points don't actually bridge any connections, but are touching the underside of the button where it's not metallic.
Obviously I'm missing something here, anyone have a clue?
hate to say it but id just pay the $100 for a refurbish or id look on craigslist or ebay for a replacement.
All you need to do is solder those three solder points. make sure you are using flux so it flows well and keep it straight. I had an issue after I put the case back on and the button on the case not lining up with the switch. Make sure you try to power the phone on before you put the case back on. I would leave the digitizer plugged in just in case.
Using the simple diagram below, soldering the 1-2-4 points didn't make it work. I was able to mimic the button by bridging the 1or2or4 with the 3or5.

Not sure what else I can do at this point beyond putting in a small momentary button that makes one of these connections, it will make the device look incredibly ghetto though
it is possible when it broke off it took one of the solder pads with it, after you take the button off see if all the connection points are still silverish in color if any are tan unfortunately you will have to go through asurion, there is no way i know of restoring them after that point

Defective touch screen?

I had my evo's (003) touch screen die where the main screen didnt light up but the buttons did. I couldnt see anything on the phone but it did work and I could make calls with bluetooth etc.. SO, I took the phone into the store and they replaced the entire screen which includes the front buttons and side volume rocker etc.
HOWEVER, now the bottom buttons (home, back etc) do not work. Has anyone had this issue? Im taking it back for them to put ANOTHER screen on.. I did find this video of almost the same issue I am having:
Im wondering if other had this issue and if there might be a bad batch of replacement panels... The service tech told me I needed to hard reset to get the buttons working and I did and same issue....
Thanks....
I have had that happen before even white spots on screen and where it became unresponsive to touch locked up. Had it swapped out and the new one had the screen coming apart. Then the next one wasn't glued on right windex got on the lcd. Got my phone from Asurion and they sent me one with glue all over messed up charger port and the screen had 15 lines running str8 down the center.
I have no idea why but I believe there is a bad batch of panels still running around. Now I have a brand new 0004 evo Asurion gave me after I called and talked to them takes awhile to get through to someone. But worth the 100.
Sprint store always gave me refurbs with big issues always such as screen issues and broken volume button and camera issues.

[Q] [HELP] Hardware Buttons Pressing Eachother

I just got an HD2 so I could run mango.
Only one problem though.
The hardware buttons are pressing each other.
For example, most of the time when i press the back button ,it presses the power button instead. It's like the spring or whatever is pressing down both if them and hutting the power button first. It also happens a lot when I press the Windows button, which will press down the back button instead. It's definitely a hardware issue. Has anyone else had this issue? Does anyone have a possible fix?
Thank you!
Somehow, the flex assembly for the buttons became misaligned. You will have to take apart your hd2 to fix it..
Has anyone else had this problem and successfully fixed it?

I watched the disassembly video when I replaced the housing of my HD2, and you have to take it apart pretty much completley to reach the buttons.
The risk of damaging something is pretty high, isn't it?

You got your HD2 used? I would guess it's a sign of wear.
I'm experiencing the same problem, not most of the time, but sometimes.
Since I'm on Android I started using Button Savior some time ago, hopping I can preserve my buttons a little longer. Don't know if there's a similar app for WP7.
...but sooner or later it'll be time for a new device.
Yeah, you will have to buy new tape or use CA glue to seat the lcd/digitizer assembly back onto the chassis when you put it back together. The risk of damaging isn't that high if you be careful to not touch the button contacts (they will fall off but it can be fixed with tiny drops of super glue) and careful not to rip any flex cables.

Stumped! On 3rd g900t digitizer-Cant get rid of issue (recent menu/left touch) HELP!

I am on my 3rd g900t digitizer-Cant get rid of issue
what happens is: the menu for when you hit the left touch or "recent" button keeps coming up without me touching it like every 45 or so seconds, only when im touching the glass.
Something is telling my phone that im hitting that left button when i am clearly not. Its *not the digitizer itself because ive tried 3..
ive replaced the charger port assembly once as well.
A: does anyone know of a way i can disable the left touch button on the s5 ? (More specifically-just the functionality, not the light)
fyi this did start happening when i replaced the digitizer, the actual plastic silver case & the charger port. Maybe its the case that's doing it? Anyone ever heard of anything like this? Its driving me nuts, i cant use my phone, sick of buying replacement parts!
Please please help me on this brothers...
IS there anyone with any idea on how to disable the left touch button on an S5????
What if i simply Snipped the button after lifting the digitizer?? would that work?

LCD Screen Issue with Moto X Pure XT1575

Hello all. Recently, my wife's phone was experiencing rapid ghost touches. I called customer support and since the phone was out of warranty, they offered to trade in for a refurbished one for $109. I didn't want to do that so I bought a new digitizer from ebay for about half that price.
I received the new digitizer and replaced it following some guide online. I placed it back together to test it out - only put a few screws back in. The new digitizer fixed the ghost touches issue and everything was working well.
However, I didn't finish transferring some rubber pieces from the old frame (I think they're for the front speakers. I also didn't transfer the grills for the front speakers. So I took the phone apart, transferred those rubber pieces and then attempted to transfer the grills. However, they weren't going in their slots very easily and I was attempting to press the bottom one in with some force. I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, but now the screen just doesn't display anything. The phone is on and the touchscreen seems to work.
I can do the double twist to get to the camera and take a picture with the volume button. However, the screen is completely black. Also, if I call the phone number, the phone starts ringing, so I believe the phone still runs and the touchscreen is still ok. However, it doesn't display a single thing.
So I re-seated all of the connectors involved with the repair (especially the LCD and digitizer connectors), but that didn't work. After that, I switched back to the old digitizer I just replaced just to make sure I didn't break the new one. It still isn't displaying.
Is anyone familiar with this issue and what I can do to fix it? Thank you
*I asked for assistance in reddit and lenova forums so far, but that hasn't proved fruitful
