I just got an HD2 so I could run mango.
Only one problem though.
The hardware buttons are pressing each other.
For example, most of the time when i press the back button ,it presses the power button instead. It's like the spring or whatever is pressing down both if them and hutting the power button first. It also happens a lot when I press the Windows button, which will press down the back button instead. It's definitely a hardware issue. Has anyone else had this issue? Does anyone have a possible fix?
Thank you!
Somehow, the flex assembly for the buttons became misaligned. You will have to take apart your hd2 to fix it..
Has anyone else had this problem and successfully fixed it?

I watched the disassembly video when I replaced the housing of my HD2, and you have to take it apart pretty much completley to reach the buttons.
The risk of damaging something is pretty high, isn't it?

You got your HD2 used? I would guess it's a sign of wear.
I'm experiencing the same problem, not most of the time, but sometimes.
Since I'm on Android I started using Button Savior some time ago, hopping I can preserve my buttons a little longer. Don't know if there's a similar app for WP7.
...but sooner or later it'll be time for a new device.
Yeah, you will have to buy new tape or use CA glue to seat the lcd/digitizer assembly back onto the chassis when you put it back together. The risk of damaging isn't that high if you be careful to not touch the button contacts (they will fall off but it can be fixed with tiny drops of super glue) and careful not to rip any flex cables.

Hi all, my Trinity's hardware buttons doesn't work.
The 2 softkey hardware buttons, the red and the green button, the ok button and the Start button seems to be broken also if they have backlight. All the others buttons are ok.
I've tried to softreset, hardreset and flash the ROM (I'm using last Ervius ROM). After flashing for the first time the buttons were ok for a littewhile but now they seems to be broken again even after several flash. I've also tried to downgrade to wm5 but nothing change. I think that is an hardware issue and I'm going to try to fix it by opening my Trinity hoping that is just a flat connector pluged out but if someone else has experienced the same problem and has to suggest me something is really welcome.

I experienced this myself, and replaced this item:
http://cnn.cn/shop/p3600dopod-d810-keypad-p-1825.html
HPN
keys are stuck
Mine also, but solved it after a couple of days (temporarily). The hardware buttons problem seems to be related with one of the keys stuck. If one of those keys is stuck none of the others work. I tried "fast" double clicking on one key at a time to unstuck and it worked for me. Mine has been working for two weeks with no problem. Anyway I ordered that part "just in case".
So before opening your trinity try to unstuck the keys. It seems to be related with humidity conditions and carrying the phone in the pocket (just a guess).

I'm going to try this becouse during the last 4 days sometimes the buttons work so.... thanks!
Ok, nothing work.
I've also tried to open the device but looking behind the buttons pad fortunally/unfortunally there isn't an evident hardware problem.
The only solution is to replace the pad.
Hi to all.
I have had buttons not working on my trinity for some time. was tempted to send it back for repair but i did not want to be without my phone and did not want to have to stick the old wm5 rom back on!!
I took my trinity apart too see if i could see anything wrong. and got it down to the keypad. one thing i did notice is that there was a lot of dust. also around the small disks that provide the buttons, there are 3 small holes in the sealing sheet. seems that the construction of the switch array is circuit board at the bottom, with small tin disks on top, all held in place with a thin plastic sheet.
The tin disks 'pop' inside out when you press the buttons, making the contact for the switch. On the old nokia phones, these disks got deformed and this would make the button work but with no click. I had a click but no button operation, and with the holes, and all the dust i found, i figured that it must be dusty contacts.
so here is how i managed to fix my buttons for free:
1, strip the phone to get to the keyboard circuit (i used this link clicky)
2, clean all the dust from the buttons
3, start to tease the plastic film from the front of the board (i used a sharp knife but mind your fingers and take care not to damage the board)
4, once one corner is up you should be able to slowly pull the film up (take care not to damage the disks as the plastic comes up but make sure the disks stay on the plastic sheet)
5, dont pull the sheet totally off otherwise you will have a job getting it all to line up after.
6, get some alcohol or head cleaning fluid on a cotton bud and clean all the gold contacts, as well as the insides of the discs.
7, slowly rub the plastic film to put it back where it came from, taking care to get the disks in the center of the gold contacts.
8, rebuild and test
All being well you should have working buttons again!!! It seems the design of the buttons lets dust inside the workings.
Hope this helps someone with clicking buttons but no action!!!
My power button has become less "clicky" like something is making it stick inside, or some part of the button has damaged or fallen out. It's very difficult to switch on/off the phone disply, because the buttom seems to have sunk or is stuck.
AFAIK, it hasn't suffered any bumps or knocks and is always stored safely in my pocket.
Any suggestions?
Probably small plastic bracket under external switch is broken. Don't know if you can replace only this part or whole button.
So, how can I check this to see if this is really the problem?
Any disassembling guides for the Blackstone (good ones)?
What else could the problem be? The external switch looks fine, but I can't really get a good look under it.
Problems with dirt/dust buildup?
Anyone else had such similar problems? Is it a common problem?

Would have to agree with above, looks like the small plastic bracket under the external switch has broken
I've run into a problem as of late. The top 1/4" of my touch screen only works sometimes, and when i long press the power button and the power off menu comes up the entire touch screen stops working but the hard buttons still work fine, and if i get out of the power off menu the touch screen still doesnt work. I figure this has to be some sort of software problem.
Has anyone else experience this? I figure this has to be some sort of software problem. i did a task 29 and formatted my sd card and everything but the problem still persists. If any one has anyone can shed some light on this it would be much appreciated. It's a very annoying problem. Im using hyperdroid gbx v11
It's not a software but a hardware problem...i hope your phone is still under warranty, because you need a display and/or digitizer replacement. The hd2 has a construction weekness, the digitizer's connector is under the power off button, so if you push hard or very often that button, that can causes this error...a lot of people in this board have/had this problem

Hey guys, I was just using my phone today like a normal day, and my phone's power button just stopped working. I doubt its software, so is there anything I can do to fix this? Any guides in particular?
edit: the button has randomly started working again after I pushed it in a bit without opening anything, but I suspect theres dirt accumulating in there or something and just making it hard to work. I'd still like to know if theres a way i can get the power button out, clean it with a q-tip or what not and get it back in all safely.
Sorry to hear that, bro. Judging from this Vibrant tear-down thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24155781, it looks like the power button is accessible after taking off the main back cover ... but I can't really tell from the 2nd photo (looking at it from my phone / Tapatalk right now, and the zoomed resolution is not very good).
Hope you get it figured out, or maybe (in the meantime) use a power button widget / shortcut?
( not to make light of the circumstance ... but maybe make sure you're using the right "towels" when you wipe down your phone. Its always easy to blame dougie's special red apk. )
Hey xriderx, it is pretty easy to replace the power button ribbon. Just dont tear the pad off the board like I did. I found the ribbon online for about $10. What you are describing is exactly what my power button did before going out completely.

How can you detach the power button ribbon and replace the by the new one? do you have to solder or anything ?
Yes it will require some soldering. Maybe some desoldering tape to remove the old ribbon/solder as well.
Hi guys, first post. So heres the problem. My HD2 screen is not glued properly to the base of the phone and it has a little space between them at the bottom right corner ( next to the Power button), whenever i press the screen to close the gap the phone freezes, and i have to remove the batery. It is getting really annoying couse i cant even put the damn thing in my pocket without it freezing. The hardware keys dont even work i just have to restart it. So my question is does any1 know of this problem and can he/she offer a way out?
Sorry for my english. thanks in advance
Sounds like it been opened before & had not the best assembly.
Would imagine hardware button ribbon is torn or pulled out of socket hence no buttons.
freezing issue could be down to issue with digitizer ribbon or button ribbon or worse ?
Do you have any issues with screen touch & do you know full history of the handset.
If black Void sticker is missing from case screw near battery pins then you know it been opened & most repairs including so called specialists are poor from ones I've seen.
I know this is the last thing you want to hear but if it were my device I'd take it apart and redo the assembly myself. Theres plenty of how-to videos with detailed steps. Hope this helps.
