Nexus 6 may become a bargain next year. - Nexus 6 General

With the Nexus 6 being sold in alot more stores & carriers this time around, than past Nexus smartphones anybody think that the price will come down pretty quickly after the New Year.
Being a big Phablet popularity after the new year will probably dwindle, once the geeks and tech heads have got theirs the general public will probably think it just to big.
Then there the case of 2015 smartphones which will all be running either the Snapdragon 64bit 808 or 810 and will come with either 3 or 4GB of ram & smaller QHD screens.
The Nexus 6 on the Play Store will continue at the price it is now for the rest of the year, while the stores will probably drop the price significantly just to shift stock.
I wouldn't be surprised come March or April next year that the price of the 32Gb Nexus 6 is around 350 dollar, pound ect mark pending on which country your from.
What do you think?

I don't know how you expect the price to drop by as much as half.
At 350$ the nexus 5 is actually still a good phone. And the nexus 6 competes very well against phones in 700$ range.
Most carrier will just discount the price on contracts because they still make money. The price of buying outright usually never change especially less than a year after launch.
You have to remember that the reason google launched a premium 700$ nexus device was to show that google wasn't going to undercut other manufactures for the android silver program.
For those who aren't aware android silver the the program similar to gpe and android one where manufacture phones run stock android. The biggest reason that the manufactures didn't want to participate was that they couldn't differiante them selves enough if all the devices were running stock and if google had launched the nexus 6 at a 350$ price then Google would just cannabilze the market.
You have to remember that google has no reason to lower prices of nexus 6 and carrier only give people bigger discounts on phones for signing contracts.
Msrp doesn't change so the price of the phone won't. Yes you'll see maybe sales 100$ less within the year but that's a standard trend. Google probably charges 600$ to the retailers why would they sell it for anyless, they are a business not charity

I don't recall Google lowering prices of their phones at all or by much.

I can see them lowering it a Benjamin in 6-8 months I don't think that's out of the question

The only time that they reduced the price was N4, http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...-price-drops-by-100-199-for-8gb-249-for-16gb/
But yeah Google doesn't really bring any of the prices down. If anything, the carriers would for prices on contract.

I doubt the GPS price will change much, if at all. But it'll definitely become cheaper on places like eBay much more rapidly than previous Nexus devices now that it's sold on contract. It most likely won't be immune from the occasional carrier promotion or price reduction either once it ages a bit.

Through carrier (T-Mo) yes, decent chance. Through the Play Store, I highly doubt it, rumor has it Google is already subsidizing each phone to the tune of nearly $400
I highly doubt Google is subsidizing these phones. And regarding the black friday sales, I doubt there will be any for this phone…I'm sure it will sell just fine at the current pricepoint.

The phone wouldn't even cost $400 to manufacture
edit: I have just read the article posted and what a load of rubbish it is!
selling for $400 below what is usually expected of a high end android phone IS NOT subsidising the phone! Subsidising is selling for less than the cost to manufacture a distribute. The phone is self will cost c.$150 to manufacture (maybe less) plus 5-10% to distribute.

Granted there are a lot of sites out there showing it cost ~$200 to manufacture a phone. Such as http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_much_does_it_cost_to_make_a_cell_phone
What they don't take into account is R&D, salaries, corporate profits. LG and Google need to pay all the employees who are involved in this device from the day it was proposed until whenever, probably more than a year down the road, that it hits its end of life. LG still plans to make a profit on the device itself. Why else do some devices sell unlocked for >$700 dollars. When it is said that Google is subsidizing the device they are talking about absorbing all those costs while not screwing over their hardware partner.

I'm not claiming credibility for the article, but it is one of many touting this rumor. I'm just pointing it out. And I do believe Google is subsidizing the device, though perhaps not to that extent. I don't expect they can take any more of a loss for black friday sales than they already taking on standard sales.
It's highly probably they're doing what Sony did with the PS3 - as far as I recall they didn't make a loss but they sold the units at close to zero profit to get Blu Ray into homes. That proved to be a clever move if you look at the demise of HDDVD.
Now I don't think even Google expect this to kill off the competition in that way, but flooding the market with low priced high end Android devices increases their market share, the price makes other manufacturers look bad and they make more money from the Play and other related revenue streams like accessories, other nexus devices etc.

Price dropping and Resell value

So what started off as a 500$ unlocked (16gb) to 400$ and now to 300$ all in 5 months. [August Release Date]
What sort of resell value are we looking at before the Moto X2 comes out around august?? Im only curious because I would like to purchase this moto x unlocked phone now for 300 and sell around July/August.
At this rate, its looking like ~100$-125$? What do you guys think?
You should not consider a smartphone as an investment. It depend on how much more discount Google will give it. If the price stay the same, I would say if you keep it mint, my guess is $240.
You couldn't even buy a mint (international) Galaxy S2 for $125 and its 3 years old.

I am not looking at this as an investment. I am simply need a temporary to use a 4G/LTE compatible phone because I am using ATT Iphone4s on Tmobile network, which is very spotty due to different bands (And lack of). I will probably look into a top tier phone like S5 or Iphone6 come July. I am just looking to buy one motox new (take care of it) then sell it and have it hopefully cost me 20-30$ a month on average.
Im happy everyones so optimistic that till still be near the 200$ range considering its only $300-330 now. Whats the best way to sell? Craigslist, ebay or Swappa? Thanks guys!

Craiglist only if you carry a Remington 12 gauge for protection, otherwise Swappa is hassle free. You might be able to get a few dollars more from eBay, but they have lots of fees so in the end it's not worth it.
I think you should look to buy a phone as a keeper than just temp use. People have said Moto X feel faster than their Note 3 due to better software optimization. Seems like a waste if you're buying it just to use LTE temporarily.

Also IIRC ebay + paypal fees run about 13% on a phone I think - about $40 on a $300 sale? Swappa is $10 + paypal fees (3%) - about $19.

It actually started out at $600 for those who just can't wait when a new phone is released. :/ I've sold phones on eBay and Craigslist. As mentioned, you might get a little more from eBay but Craigslist is usually faster. Regarding the shotgun comment, always be sure to meet in a public place and don't give your description until you arrive. Most people are decent and just looking for the item you're selling.

It's true though that the X has lost more value from release date in 6 months than nearly any other flagship I've ever seen. Yes that's because google and Motorola themselves have dropped the price. But even so, resell value for those who bought on release date has dropped well over 50% in 6 months. That's remarkable. Takes an iPhone about 2 years to lose that much value. Samsung and htc flagships don't drop that fast either, by a long shot.
I'm thinking the major discounts are going to level off...I can't really see Moto selling this phone for less than $300. It's possible it might eventually hit $300 off contract as the standard price, but if you keep your phone in good condition, I would think you would be able to net $200 for it in the summer (so $220-230ish before fees/shipping). That's what I'm hoping at least...
I've never bothered selling an old phone....I gift them to family and friends that have even older phones.
But, based on current prices of the Moto x, I'd say we won't be getting too much selling them used later. I've seen used nexus 4's for almost the same as used Moto x's.....
Guess we'll see later.

After I got the Moto X, I sold my previous phone (the HTC Rezound) on eBay for $80 (although I included 2 spare batteries, and had it S-OFF with an unlocked bootloader).
That phone was in rough shape, and heavily used. I think $100 will be the absolute minimum the Moto X would go for. A nice, thin 4G phone with great battery life? You won't get $250 in July, but it'll still hold up pretty well.
One problem I see is with bizarro color combinations, and the effect that will have on resale value.

Definitely not true. Prior to the price drops, 16GB Moto X's could be found on swappa for roughly 450 dollars. Roughly about the same price on ebay, but I was able to snag a very lucky BIN for $400 for a 16gb back in November.
If you look at the most recent sold listings on swappa, most of them are still in the $350 range, which is plenty good considering they had their huge fire sale for $350 a month ago AND the $300 sale the other day.
Phones that are usually subsidized by the carriers and that are actually POPULAR, like the HTC One or S4, usually sell for much less at this point in time. Look on swappa's listings of sold S4s, they're all low 300s. Granted the phone has been out longer, but that's nearly a 250-300 drop in value. The X's used price hasn't changed very much in comparison, given that Moto dropped the price over 150 dollars over the past couple months.
That my friend is supply and demand. There isn't an abundance of used x's like every other phone yet. I don't even think Motorola sold that many new lol. Up until a few days ago second hand was the only way to get them overseas. Now that's not the case so I still say the prices will drop, but you're still better buying and selling at full price than subsidizing with Verizon or at&t. Especially if you switch every few months.
For the op however, I reiterate... Nexus 5

Too rich for my blood - and for a lot of other people's too, it appears - Google's going to continue to sell the Nexus 5 for those of us without bottomless pockets
Interesting how LOLLIPOP (there - we can say it now!) is built to run on lower spec devices, yet they're still pushing the highest of high ends with this. Not complaining at all - it looks like a beast, alas one I'm unlikely to get to own
When I heard of N6 and it's specs I say: I selling my N5 and must have N6!!
But not when I read about prices.

As for the $649 I am okay with it. This phone is very comparable to other flag ship devices, so it isn't like it is more expensive then the other phones out there in it range. I think many are just bummed because they are used to paying about half that for a Nexus. I already knew I was getting this phone no matter what and planned for it to be about this expensive just in case. One thing I hope this price does is bring down the bottle neck when it comes time to preorder.
i hope then dont charge shipping unlike during nexus 5 there was a shipping charge. shipping charge is going bring this phone to 700 usd

After currency conversion and taxes/fees due on delivery, the OPO cost me $500 CDN for the $350 USD phone (God, our dollar sucks right now...). As such, anything over $400 would cause a lot more thought to go into buying the phone. Even at $400 I think OPO would have to show a lot of positive growth with their customer service and hardware quality (i.e. lower % of phones with issues) before buying the next generation.
400USD,but impossible.oneplus two i think it must around 450usd
I think it'll sell for around $450. For that I would expect no big touchscreen fault and bleeding edge hardware from a company less credible than many others out there
I would pay up to $400 for the OnePlus Two, preferably less but I would certainly pay the extra if they could bring in the AMOLED/OLED displays, I really would like this to appear in the device! Would be great to actually have 'active display' without the full screen on all the time, also I would like for them to bring full LTE support in the UK, if they did that they would probably have successfully sold me on an upgrade at that price point.
The other perference I have is a smaller device, would love for it to be a similar width as the nexus 5 but with a slightly bigger screen (5.0" is fine if that is all thats possible!), if its more than $400 it would be a tough sell for me and I would consider alternative devices next year but they know where they need to improve so I am not really concerned.
$350-$400 for the 64gb model.
Anything more, would immediately draw me away from Oneplus as a company.

I have a 6P and will likely be going with the Pixel (non XL) upon release. I caved in and got the 6P last year even though I hate phablets, and although it's an amazing phone, I still find it too big to this day. 5-5.2" is my sweet spot. Will buy from play store directly like 6P and N5 before, easier this way especially for warranty imho, unless Videotron in Quebec (likely) or Fido/Virgin/Koodo (unlikely) have it at launch as they all have decent 6GB/60$ BYOP plans ; not Bell/Rogers/Telus.
I'll sell my 6P (pretty sure I can get 300$ for the 32GB still under warranty) so that should offset the, I assume, 750$ish price range for the smaller Pixel. The only major turn off for me is front facing speaker ; I will really, really miss those, especially if the bezels are as thick as the leaked renders/pictures (I'M SURE THERE IS ROOM GOOGLE, WHY? :'( )
And the phone better be f'ing amazing at that price (or really nice at a more decent 600$ish price).*
If the price starts at 650USD which in Canada means 845CAD$ + tax = 975CAD$ I'm out.
I will buy a Iphone 6S probably,

How much is your monthly plan?
Only $12 more than previous contract for Nexus 5 two years ago, which completed by chance in September.
Cell and data bills in Canada are crazy, though. I support openmedia.ca 's efforts.
Total though, $80? I would imagine half of that would go to pay the phone off.

Just ordered my Pixel. Added a new line to my account (Telus) and the phone was 0$ .. Already have 6gb shared data.. so a new plan is 84$ a month taxes included. So it cost me 17$ (sim cost) to order this phone. And comes with 100$ Google play credit!

I pre-ordered 2 black 128GB's yesterday from Rogers for $329 each. The demand for the phone doesn't appear to be that high though judging from my position in the line-up -- I'm 47 in the line-up, and that's after placing my order one week after the device was announced...
With Rogers, if you pre-order, you get 2GB of data extra to add to your plan for 12 months, a free Chromecast and a $50 Play Store credit. And that's per device. Not bad.
