[Real] Way to get 1440p Res on YouTube, working! - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 General

You need root to use this method because you have to modify your build.prop.
***** NOTE: If you simply change your build.prop version to 5.0.1, the normal YouTube application in the Play Store should automatically be able to support 1440p. If your YouTube application does not support 1440p after changing you build.prop version to 5.0.1, use the method below. *****
1. Wipe YouTube app
2. Uninstall YouTube app
3. Open file explorer that has root permission (i.e. es file explorer)
4. Navigate to /system/ (Make sure it's mounted as r/w)
5. Open build.prop
6. Change the line at ro.build.version.release=4.4.4 to ro.build.version.release=5.0 and save
7. Reboot device
8. Download and install this YouTube version https://www.dropbox.com/s/vm9ncnzyy7g94pf/com.google.android.youtube-5.10.1.5.apk?dl=0
9. Go to the play store and disable automatic updating of the YouTube app
10. Open YouTube app and select a video that supports 1440p
11. Pause the video and change the quality to 1440p
12. Close the video (just the video, not the app)
13. Select the video again
14. Enjoy
Hit that thanks button if it worked

Don't think there's a way to do it unrooted since its a mandatory step to uninstall a factory installed application.
Sent from a potato.

I was using this method for a while, but I stopped using it because you can't use YouTube adaway in exposed with it.
I'd rather no ads than good resolution.

I know dude its Google B as$. They got a QHD device out yet still don't let 1440p out. Huge dissapointment on the browser when I go to view hd man I can even choose 4K! it looks amazing. But I want it on the YouTube APP of course and by the looks of it only rooting is the answer . Thanks for the instructions tho bud!

I followed these instructions to the letter and was not able to see 1440p, only 720p. Did you leave out any steps? Did you have to edit change your version number in build.prop or anything?

Seriously?
Did this method on 3 different devices today and all worked perfectly.
Make sure the build.prop is actually changing, make sure the file manager you are using is set to R/W. That was the only confusing little dillema I had.
Sent from a potato.

The problem with this method is that S-Note stops working. But it does work i used it before i found my solution. Maybe this helps; For me when my solution stops to work i just reboot the phone and it works again.

No issues with SNote over here.

Trimmed ICS boot animation
Hey guys, I got sick of the slow frame loading on my Optimus V so I trimmed it down a bit. This comes at a cost of image quality though as I had to shrink resolution/compress/remove frames/lower frame rate. I think I came to a suitable compromise though. Try it out.
really good

[MOD] How to see Emoji in the whole system on Galaxy S3

So basically I was trying the methods you can find here on xda, but they didn't work on our GS3 (I'm not the only one who noticed this), then I found out that we have one more tiny little step to make, and that's changing fallback_fonts.xml the file that says which fonts to use when the system fonts are not capable to read the content.
Here we go!
What do you need? Root and Root Explorer
IMPORTANT: Make a backup of the 2 files we are going to replace and also a Nandroid Backup if you want to be sure.
1: download this two files:
DroidSansFallback.ttf https://dl.dropbox.com/u/18807962/DroidSansFallback.ttf
fallback_fonts.xml https://dl.dropbox.com/u/18807962/fallback_fonts.xml
2: place the two files as follows with Root Explorer:
DroidSansFallback.ttf goes to /system/fonts
fallback_fonts.xml goes to /system/etc
You will be asked if you want to replace the two files, of course you will say "Yes dude".
3: Reboot and enjoy
I've tested it in the Twitter app and in Instagram and it works (in Instagram sometimes I can see the emojis in the notifications but then I can't in the pic's comments, don't know why, bue I guess it's an Instagram's app issue)
{

Tested also on KIK, it works :good:
I wish there was a way to integrate emojis to stock keyboard its annoying to switch keyboard / open a separate app just for it :/

Sorry i generally lurk the forums and dont post.
First off this worked for emoji. Spectacular info.
My question is can the unicode fonts be fixed the same way?
I'm still randomly getting those silly little boxes in pal and s8 games
Where on my evo i needed to install 2 other fonts. Inorder to see the unicode writing.
Any ideas?
It should work exactly in the same way, add the two fonts in the fonts' folder and then modify the xml adding the two new fonts in it.
thanks for the help but the fallback_fonts.xml wont download

Emoji still doesn't fully work
So i replaced the files and rebooted my galaxy but i still can't see messages on twitter the boxes still come up unless i see each message one by one in details and also i can't see emoji's when someone texts me the only time i can see the emoji's is when i type them myself.
Is there any fix for this so i can see the emojis people text me?
works
You definitely need RootExplorer with Mount R/W to replace the files - and they work perfectly...
Thank you...
Now we have to figure out a way to get those Emoj Keys into the Keyboard...
---------- Post added at 01:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:21 PM ----------
Hey... found it...
Search for "Emoji Keyboard" in the Google Playstore.
This Keyboard works perfectly together with your font package pre-intalled.
I can finally use my normal Message app to write and receive Emoji... Nice...
I have to say thank you again...

when i first installed this i was able to see it on the PICTURE'S comment but after i updated IG to 3.1.0 im no longer able to see them on the photo comment hmm might try two things....revert IG back to 3.0 [ IF i can find it ] or restore those two files w/ root explorer reboot and then copy the EMOJI files back ] see if that works out.
No need to do so much effort. Just install latest Jelly Bean keyboard pro and Emoji icons from play store. Long press enter key anytime on keyboard and you will find Emoji; can use them in all applications.

Just booted up with it. Looks sweet!
So how am I being stupid?
Open link in Chrome and it takes me to all the images. Without any ability to just grab the file.
Open the link in Next and I have the option to open with Drive. In Drive it opens to the two folders and the desc.text file, I extract them to my sdcard, select them all and zip them into bootanimation.zip move them to system/media and change the permissions. However, when I check properties it shows up as rdx-r, click change and it shows they are set rw-r-r, what the heck am I doing wrong?

This is really nice, definitely going to use it. Is it just a resize of lower resolution images, or could the original developer actually make it in the higher resolution images?

Add "persist.sys.debug.multi_window=true" at the end of the build.prop. That's it

Thanks for this works great.
Can see why it's a hidden mode though, the implementation is a bit of a mess isn't it? Pretty glitchy.
I had a s6 before and this feature was very well done by Samsung.
Once we edit the build prop, how do we put it to use? I'm highly interested in this.
Edit: I'm also trying to use ES File Explorer to edit the build.prop. I found two build.props; one file has way more code than the other. Which one do I edit? And ES File Explorer is telling me that there is an error when trying to save the edited build.prop. Any insight?

Just use free tool build prop editor. Click edit, go to bottom paste that line in, save reboot go to settings, about phone, tap build number 7 times, go to developer options, scroll down until you see multi window, enable, accept that it's beta. This is app developer issue, the way Google incorporated it the app needs to be compatible.
Sammy uses their own interface TouchWiz and their multi window works totally different, but even there only select apps would work right?

Yup, I highly recommend systems less root is very nice even though it's still beta and a bit difficult to set up is worth it

No. It will just get reset to off on update and you will need to re enable it after the update.

So guys, I had just flashed the latest MM Update , But was on Bliss 6.0.
So in the MM Update what caught my eyes was the SHIELD Camera, So What's so cool about this camera?
FEATURES
1) HDFX ( Real time effects can be added, and its lots of them)
2) Barcode Scanner (No need for separate scanner app, and it does scan xD)
3) Slow Motion Video ( Last I remember it was on iPhone I guess, Now on Android and our beloved SHIELD)
4) A Cute UI as they say **New UI inspired by Material Design, improved burst photo functionality**
INSTALLATION
*ROOT IS REQUIRED*
1) Download the attached file [8.04MB]
2) Extract it wherever, the folder SHOULD be NvCamera.
3) Copy the entire folder with it contents [It has 1 file and folder{ NvCamera.apk and lib folder with more 1 folder which has 5 .lib files ]
4) Copy to /system/app
5) Now these is Important, change the permissions of each file and folder including the NvCamera folder too, to rwx rwx rwx.
{ I REPEAT EACH AND EVERY FILE } and install the NvCamera.apk normally. (Use any File Explorer, ES {in my case} Does it beautifully, Solid throws out some error but does the Job)
6) Reboot [Recommended]{Spoiler : I tried without rebooting worked though :33}
[PRO TIP : On first Run it gives tutorial and asks for permissions grant them if you skip them give them manually from the settings later anytime.]
BUGS:
As ports have bugs this too has one bug :3
1) Panorama Gives FC
OTHERS :
1) Works with other devices too, but HDFX is not available [ was tested on 6.0.1 RR ROM]
2) SLOW MO Video gives FC :33
REQUEST :
If someone better than me can make a flashable zip with all the permissions and stuff it would be great.
UPDATE:
Special Thanks to demkantor for including this in his Aroma Flashable Zip :highfive: located HERE
{1st Post forgive if any mistakes}
[Recommendations are always welcome ]
I'll try updating it with the coming updates, but I'm no developer, just wanted to share
And yeah the Thanks Button Doesn't Bites

CREDITS:
1) NVIDIA for such a beautiful piece of hardware and that app too
2) Google and my Linux Teacher for teaching me permissions stuff ( I really didn't knew them xD)

Cool! Have been too lazy to pull this from the Stock 4.0.1 update.
One thing. Typically permissions in /system/app are:
Folders: rwxr-xr-x
Files: rw-r--r--
I'm no Linux guy so not sure how much those will affect things.
Maybe why you need to install the APK after putting into /system? Usually not needed?

I tried the permissions as you said, for me it gave FCs :3.
Apk?until permissions aren't changed it won't install until it's --x i was laughing my ass off xD
The proprietary camera app works on custom ROMs without modification? Cool. I'll have to add that to CM-Shield, then.

I've added the stock camera to CM-Shield. Once the various derivatives update their trees, this should be available in those custom ROMs without needing to install anything extra.
Dunno if there's anything to this that wasn't covered by Focal already, but hey, options are always nice. And I guess the interface is pretty simple and slick.

I did have a typo. For files I said "rwXr--r--" where it should have been "rw-r--r--" like what's in my screenshot of the App folder
That file manager is the venerable Root Explorer. It just had a UI update about a week ago to finally "Materialize" it

If you are trying some other app, try to give it some memory, cause most of the times, background apps hog it, besides slo mo requires a lot of resources

i try media player home cineam, bs player, vlc, kmplayer, quicktime player, nothing works
