So basically I was trying the methods you can find here on xda, but they didn't work on our GS3 (I'm not the only one who noticed this), then I found out that we have one more tiny little step to make, and that's changing fallback_fonts.xml the file that says which fonts to use when the system fonts are not capable to read the content.
Here we go!
What do you need? Root and Root Explorer
IMPORTANT: Make a backup of the 2 files we are going to replace and also a Nandroid Backup if you want to be sure.
1: download this two files:
DroidSansFallback.ttf https://dl.dropbox.com/u/18807962/DroidSansFallback.ttf
fallback_fonts.xml https://dl.dropbox.com/u/18807962/fallback_fonts.xml
2: place the two files as follows with Root Explorer:
DroidSansFallback.ttf goes to /system/fonts
fallback_fonts.xml goes to /system/etc
You will be asked if you want to replace the two files, of course you will say "Yes dude".
3: Reboot and enjoy
I've tested it in the Twitter app and in Instagram and it works (in Instagram sometimes I can see the emojis in the notifications but then I can't in the pic's comments, don't know why, bue I guess it's an Instagram's app issue)

I wish there was a way to integrate emojis to stock keyboard its annoying to switch keyboard / open a separate app just for it :/

Sorry i generally lurk the forums and dont post.
First off this worked for emoji. Spectacular info.
My question is can the unicode fonts be fixed the same way?
I'm still randomly getting those silly little boxes in pal and s8 games
Where on my evo i needed to install 2 other fonts. Inorder to see the unicode writing.
Any ideas?
It should work exactly in the same way, add the two fonts in the fonts' folder and then modify the xml adding the two new fonts in it.
thanks for the help but the fallback_fonts.xml wont download

Emoji still doesn't fully work
So i replaced the files and rebooted my galaxy but i still can't see messages on twitter the boxes still come up unless i see each message one by one in details and also i can't see emoji's when someone texts me the only time i can see the emoji's is when i type them myself.
Is there any fix for this so i can see the emojis people text me?
works
You definitely need RootExplorer with Mount R/W to replace the files - and they work perfectly...
Thank you...
Now we have to figure out a way to get those Emoj Keys into the Keyboard...
---------- Post added at 01:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:21 PM ----------
Hey... found it...
Search for "Emoji Keyboard" in the Google Playstore.
This Keyboard works perfectly together with your font package pre-intalled.
I can finally use my normal Message app to write and receive Emoji... Nice...
I have to say thank you again...
color emoji possible?
Thanks :good:

when i first installed this i was able to see it on the PICTURE'S comment but after i updated IG to 3.1.0 im no longer able to see them on the photo comment hmm might try two things....revert IG back to 3.0 [ IF i can find it ] or restore those two files w/ root explorer reboot and then copy the EMOJI files back ] see if that works out.
No need to do so much effort. Just install latest Jelly Bean keyboard pro and Emoji icons from play store. Long press enter key anytime on keyboard and you will find Emoji; can use them in all applications.

Hi all,
Finally I was able to almost completely arabize my x10 (text only and not interface). Now even gmail and the browser can display correct arabic characters and in the right layout. Below are the steps that you need to follow to arabize your x10:
NOTE: You must have upgraded to 2.1 AND have root access and can browse and overwrite system files.
Download the arabic2.1.rar file from ttp://hotfile.com/dl/80436943/3b83154/Arabic2.1.rar.html
Extract the files. You will find two folders, fonts and lib. Copy the files in fonts to system/fonts in your system (You need to overwrite them). And then copy the files in lib to system/lib (You need to overwrite them).
Note that your x10 might restart after overwriting any of the files. After you finishing copying the files, you just restart your x10 and enjoy your x10 with arabic support just like I am enjoying it .
Good luck

Are both files the same?
I'm currently trying asfoorial's post
hmmmm tried to paste the files in lib to the system/lib using root explorer but it damaged my phone and now I have to re-install 2.1 software via SEUS. Luckily I backed up everything before doing anything
Well it turned out to be my mistake as I copied all the files inmmediately...
I've done it by copying one file at a time and it worked
kudos on both posts
Thanks to XperiaX10iUser. I didn't know there was a post about the same thing.

I use Ibrahim arabic keyboard
and when you finished installing it, just go to settings>Language and keyboard>(tick) Ibrahim keyboard.
after that simply long-press in any text boxes and choose "input method" then select ibrahim keyboard......... you'll be able to write in arabic now

But still a few issues remain, the notification bar still comes up with squares instead of the message when received!
OUTDATED:
I no longer have an Epic4G so please refer to cornalJoe's thread here for a solid fix.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1649508
Just like all the other threads, I am not responsible for what you do with your phone, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK
This new setup is much easier/better than before.
UPDATE I have recently found out that Pictures are sent just fine, sounds on the other hand are a hit and miss. Try short clips like notifications vs longer ones like ringtones/songs.
UPDATE I found that if you disable data using the pull down settings in CleanGB, it causes SMS to stop working (probably because apn's are changed to disable it). It works again once you enable data and try sending once more.
Prerequisites:
Make a backup within CWM just in case
An Epic 4g with root and your choice of Gingerbread ROM
A way to access system files (ES File Explorer)
APN Backup & Restore from the Android Market
Download the attached ZIP onto SDcard (Contains required files)
Step 1) Open APN Backup & Restore and create a backup of your APN setup.
Step 2) Copy apns-cricket.xml from the download folder into the ApnBackupRestore folder on your SDcard. APN Backup & Restore should create this folder.
Step 3) Open APN Backup & Restore, Delete APNs, then Restore apns-cricket.xml
Step 4) Rename Mms.apk to Mms.apk.XXX located in the following directory.
/system/app/
Step 5) Copy over the Mms.apk from the download into the same directory and be sure to give it the same permissions ie. rw-r-r
/system/app/
Step 6) Reboot your Epic 4g and enjoy (hopefully) sending MMS’s.
I want to thank jpond83 again for his upload and toadlife for the rom. Dont forget to click thanks
I only edited to hide my number, spam calls are not my thing

You are welcome. Could you possibly share what version of Android you are running? I'm interested in knowing if this works with Froyo as well since I only tested Gingerbread.
Works!!!
I haven't had mms since I flashed my Epic to work with Cricket. Now, 1.5 years later, I have MMS!
My Cricketized Epic finally fully works yay!
My phone details:
Black, stylish yet conservative... just kidding!
Android 2.3.5
Running the EI22 ACS ICS v1.5 ROM with framework-mod.zip
Go Launcher EX
I should mention that this fix did overwrite the IceCreamSandwich mms/sms styling of the ACS ICS ROM, which I was starting to appreciate. However, I did miss the look of the Gingerbread mms/sms styling so I'm not dissatisfied in the least.
worked for me
I have an Epic on Cricket with everything working but the mms is on a different app "Cricket messaging". So i gave this a shot because it is annoying going to a different for messages. and it worked like a charm, Thanks..

If MMS is working then I wouldn't worry about autostart too much, I have got MMS working multiple times without it as for the Messaging icon, I am guessing your using touchwiz (the launcher with 4 large icons on a glass finish) if that's the case, I know someone posted how to place icons on that launcher on XDA but I don't know how. Its doable though, some searching should find you the answer.
hmm when I get sometime I will have to play with these for my epic on virgin mobile. I can send MMS but can't receive it.
I did find out how to get the messaging icon back on the bottom of my touchwiz interface, you have to go to your applications then you can drag it to the bottom. PROBLEM SOLVED! n8dogg I appreciate your help as well. I found out how to install the autostart as well but it was working without it as you said. Thanks again
I recently updated the tutorial, if anyone is interested I can change the steps like I mentioned at the bottom of the first post?

Regarding the message bubble design you requested. In order tho have light text on a dark bubble requires decompiling/recompiling the Whattsapp apk and editing the xmls to change the text color. I have tried that in the past, but with little success .. as Whattsapp doestnt seem to be able to recompile properly with the conventional decompiling methods. That is why you will see most mods have only black text on lighter bubbles. Not so easy to do an inverse design.

I am well aware of how to decompile and recompile apks.
The issue is with the Whattsapp apk recompiling after editing the Styles.xml within the res values folder. As many themers have found, there is an issue with recompiling WhatsApp apk after performing such edits. No one seems as yet able to successfully recompile the apk and alter the message bubble text color. You are doing well if you can change the text to inverse using ApkTool.
I myself prefer APK Manager than ApkTool as its command line structure is much better laid out and has more options.

Are you able to change the black bubble text to white (within the speech bubbles)....?
The trouble lays in that part of the modifications.
I have yet to see anyone successfully recompile the Whatsapp.apk (myself included) and have the changes (black text to white) actually work after finalization.
Many have tried editing both the Style.xml and Color.xml.. but the it just don't take after recompiling. The person who cracks this is going to make everyone happy.

Superb Tool
hi,trettet thanks for sharing this wonderful tool..
IMHO this is by far the easiest tool to decompile & compile apk
It would be handy if you can implement the following features also:
*Batch Sign
*Batch Zip-align
*Batch Install Apk
*Batch Rename
By implementing these features, this would an complete tool dealing anything related to apk..."One tool to rule them all"
Here is an icon for the tool which i have created..

Has anybody actually been able to get this to work? I get the same thing... It says "smaling," then runs a few more lines of script, but exits so quickly that I can't even read any of it.

it depends...if your apk won't decompile and build properly even using both Decompilers and Builders, replace the framework-apk's from your phone...

What exactly do you mean "replace the framework-apk's from your phone?" I am not finding anything on my phone with a name like this...
I'm just getting into developing

So, do I just copy that file, and place it in the same directory for the app that I want it to build?
Basically, what I've done is decompiled an app, edited a few text files within it (I couldn't get edits to stick simply within root browser) and now I want to build the app. The instructions say to just drag & drop the path into the manager and click "Start Building."
But with, or without the framework-res.apk from the phone, it just says "Smaling" for about ten seconds, then runs more script and closes before I can read any of it. But nothing shows up in the result folder...
Ladies & gentlemen,
this is for everyone, who still prefers froyo, because it is stable, mostly bug-free (exception: scroll-bug) and has a long battery-life.
I tried a few GB-roms and CM9, but they all have issues, so I reverted back to froyo.
The sad thing is: if you once tried ICS, Froyo looks very frumpy compared to it.
Froyo has not a Theme-Chooser, so I decided to pretty up some parts of the base-rom by myself.
It will not be a one-to-one ICS copy, but rather something similar.
I started with this Froyo 2.2.2 rom as base: Light-v2 by kpbotbot

In the /system/framework - folder I modified the following files:
framework-res.apk
(icons, colors, power-menu)
android.policy.jar
(power-menu)
services.jar
(white font for the date in the notification bar)
lge-res.apk
(notification toggle buttons and their background, Carrier background and font color)
In the /system/app - folder I modified this files:
Browser.apk
Calendar.apk
CameraApp.apk
com.google.android.gm.apk [gmail]
Contacts.apk
DeskClock.apk
Mms.apk
PackageInstaller.apk
Phone.apk
Settings.apk
Here are the changes mostly done for the launcher icon and the menu icons. The important ones for the look of the dialer are the Phone.apk and the Contacts.apk.
By the way, I hate *.pro files.
Other used apps:
Launcher: Holo Launcher
Keyboard: IceCream Sandwich-ICS Keyboard
Clock Widget: Minimalistic Text
Extra Notification Toggles: Notification Toggle
If you want to use a 2.2.* rom with the new baseband, you will need this files:
http://db.tt/zV3jimCM (this is not a flashable zip)
Thank you, community for the tools and tutorials and thanks to simililar projects for sharing. Excuse my grammar
----------------------------------------------
Update (27. Oct. 2012)
I've replaced the files with an All-In-One flashable Zip for your Recovery.
It's my first selfmade flashable zip, so be carefully (tested it with TWRP-Recovery)
It includes all above + the libs for the new baseband.
Edit:
If you get bootloops with this zip, try this one:

Aha, thanks for reporting! I didn't noticed this yet.
There must be something wrong with the size of some png's. Maybe I will fix this in the next days.
Some other status bar icons also appear not correct (new gmail, calendar event)
will this work on all froyo roms? like lets say p509 stock?

To be honest, I'm not sure if it will.
If you want to try, do a nandroid backup first.
I don't believe you, that is not froyo, no way!

Damn! You caught me.
Update 01.b
Some icons replaced to display correct in the status bar.
See the updated first post.
Even tho this is just a theme, and I am not a fan, and I admit I will never try this ROM (real ICS is much cooler), it is nice to know people still use 2-year old absolete ROMs

Yeah, froyo is not dead at all. Nothing can beat "the smoothess of Froyo"
Love Tyn!

Hello. There are 2 possibilities.
You rename the *.png to *.pro. Then open the APK in an archive manager (7zip, WinZip) and drag the file in there to replace the old one. With this workaround it is possible, that you will get a certificate error. See logcat if the app force closes. But in the most cases it will work.
Decompile the APK with your favourite tool. Then replace the *.pro files with *.png files without renaming. Take care of the *.9.png files, because in the decompiled apk the "9" is not visible. You will see them if you open the apk in 7zip. In the end you have to recompile the APK.
Hopefully I could help.
