I don't use screen protectors either and my screen has no scratches. The metal frame is the one that gets scratched really easy.

I use a tempered glass screen protector, so I couldn't comment on how durable the screen is. I do find that the metal rim could be scratched by a feather though!

It's Gorilla Glass 3.Its going to have the same scratch protection as every other flagship phone around at the moment.
U mean if other device have scratch samsung note 4 will be thesame? That means its prone to scratches? Omg!

I'm saying it uses the industry standard toughened glass that all other flagship phones use at the moment. The screen is no more prone to scratching than any other phone.
I know it should theoretically be the same as other similar phones, but I feel that it has scratched easily. Same conditions as previous phones, but in a month I already have more scratches on my screen than I ever did on my Nexus 4 or 5. Grr.
Otterbox defender on mine with screen protector popped out. Been doing that since the iphone 3g
I got some few scratches after 3 weeks of use. (Only visible under strong light and when u really want to see them tho)

Samsung should have done a back cover that extented through the whole phone's back, the bump in the lower part gets scratched very easily, am i the only one? and yeah i dont use a case on my phone, a cover plate destroys the slim figure of the phone
The "bump" on the bottom of the phone does actually get a lot of scratches

It's because of this I bought a "case-mate barely there" case.
I've never had a case before and didn't want one for this phone because I didn't want to loose the thinness either. Very glad I did though. The phone is still very thin and (on the black case) has a nice matt, slightly grippy texture which I personally find preferable to the standard backing.

Looks real good, but it's a little expensive, is it worth it?
is the touch still fully functional now ?
I see this thread and shake my head.
Getting a decent case is the first step to protecting a phone that you just spend a lot of money on. It might make it a little less thinner, but it will offer better grip and allows you stop babying every time you set in the table.
As for the dude that broke the glass, that was probably like the one weak spot. GorillaGlass isn't supposed to scratch or crack. Just avoid putting the phone in the same pocket as your keys and you shouldn't need to waste money on a screen protector.
This thread is painful.

gorilla glass is NOT scratch proof, keys won't damage the screen but dust will , the kind of dust/dirt that it's usually on people's pockets
I only ever keep it in a pocket without keys or anything else so never worry about a case.
The phone was on the floor next to my chair charging up while i was watching tv, knocked a fork off the coffee table and you guessed it, right on the phone.
No screen protector is gonna protect against that happening lol.
Everything is working fine actually. just feels a bit iffy when sliding over the long cracks in the glass.
Will be going in for new screen under insurance claim as soon as i been on my hols. so stuck with it like this for a few weeks.
Where can I get one from?

Well a TPU gelcase would solve the problems, there are stylish ones on both amazon and ebay, It depends whether you want to sacrifice that premium feel.
I have a feeling this glass isn't gorilla glass. Too many are scratching or cracking too easy.

Because Gorilla Glass 2 cannot scratch or get cracks right? /s
Seriously, even Matias Duarte proclaims it's Gorilla Glass 2 on both sides of the phone. Also, the front can pick up scratches as easily as the front, along with the same perceptibility of cracking as well. Just look for any cracked SGS3's or Nexus 4's (they are already out there, I've seen one personally). The back come off very easily, and I wouldn't be surprised if you could order a replacement from eBay in the coming months for about $50-$100 to start, and then leveling off at a reasonable $20-$30.

I'm inclined to agree with you. I've babied my Nexus 4, had it in a TPU case since day 1 and it's still managed to get scratches on the back near the top. They're very fine and only really seeable at certain angles, but they're plentiful. The front is spotless.
I can't for one second believe gorilla glass is used on both sides.
Hi guys,
Does anyone know of any tempered glass screen protector for the nexus 4 preferably for both the front and back?
I'd hate to put a case on the nexus 4 as most of them add a lot of bulk and aren't very nice.
Xgear is taking preorders for their glass screens. It's only the front though.

You should send Xgear an email or something, suggest a tempered glass back as well, from my experience with accessories companies they are always looking for interest in other product ideas.

the nexus 4 is a beautiful phone without a case, i have tried the bumper and slim cases currently available and it just makes the phone look uglier.
i may just end up emailing them, but i doubt they would make one just because of my request, even though I would be willing to pay a lot for it,
A glass protector for the front and back would be simply amazing and would allow me to keep the true beauty of the phone intact!

I asked them a while back and they said they were looking into it.
I think the problem they're having is that there is nowhere for a back protector to adhere to. They hide the adhesive on the front protector behind the colored black/white panel, and if there's nothing like that on the back, they'll have to figure something out.
I'm not sure how SGP does it with the glass ones for the iPhone 4.

I remember when they were taking preorders for GNex the OP showed a video of applying it on the iPhone 4/4S and it was a clear protector that used static or something and could be applied and reapplied. Also SGP probably uses the same clear adhesive that are on their other screen protectors. I would like xgear to offer a comprehensive front and back packages as well, but they never like to rush things to market.
I also asked them I guess we have to just be patient

The main advantage is that they can reduce the thickness of the glass while keeping the strength at least the same. This means screen closer to the surface so you get that "floating image" effect like on the One X and One (and to a slightly lesser extent the Nexus 4)

Yeah, at the end of the day it will still smash if it hits the ground the wrong way, and sand will still scratch it. That's why I still use cases and screen protectors.
I'm interested to know how much it will cost to replace the screen of the one if it does get smashed, have just recently paid €160 to get my girlfriends SGS3 screen replaced

SGS3 uses GG2. So it's actually related. Anyways, GG3 should be stronger than GG2 while at same thickness but production will come later on the year. It was only announced a couple of days ago.

since january. im a heavy user, the phone is always with me. i normally carry it in my back pocket. i have dropped it a few times, and it has slid across tables and fallen by itself, but no damage(luckily it has fallen on soft things, or ive broken its fall with my foot).
I never used one on any of my devices. Im pretty careful and the N4 guerrilla glass screen still looks new after 6 months.
