As the thread subject says, I got a screen protector today but im not liking its display and ive also heard that Nexus 4's Gorilla Glass 2 is good enough to handle scratches, so just wanna have a general idea about what you people are having.
Thanks.

nope. my n4 is completely naked. granted, i do have micro scratches on the back glass, the front glass is perfect.
I don't, did at first but when i went to replace it, didn't want to put one back on cos the screen was so much better without, only using bumper

since january. im a heavy user, the phone is always with me. i normally carry it in my back pocket. i have dropped it a few times, and it has slid across tables and fallen by itself, but no damage(luckily it has fallen on soft things, or ive broken its fall with my foot).
I never used one on any of my devices. Im pretty careful and the N4 guerrilla glass screen still looks new after 6 months.
I never use them..
Yes I always buy screen protector and case in same week I buy my phone. It protects it from scratches.

Same here. I've got a couple scratches on the front but meh.
I think screen protectors are stupid. Bumper case works fine for me.
nope because it always conflicts with my case.. so i gave up screen protectors.. and no scratch although the oleophobic seemed to have stopped working ...

how does the mytouch screen do against scratches and the like? How long have you been going bare?
The screen feels so nice without one, I just don't want to start getting scratches on it, so looking for some opinions
Maybe this belongs in the accessories section. Mods, sorry if it does, please move it if you feel it is necessary.

no screen protector since day 1 (bought sometime in Feb/Mar) and still on perfect condition. It has gorilla glass: http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/products-with-gorilla/htc
so IMHO I don't think you need to worry. I've learned this with my hero. stupid me putting a screen protector not knowing the glass itself has better scratch resistance than the screen protector I bought.
a little off topic, I'm looking for the perfect case though. as stelth300 stated, the chrome part (and probably the metal back) does seem to need a good case.
I got mine the day it came out, whenever that was, and never used a case or screen cover. I have a few small scratches on the middle of the screen, but you can only see them when the screen is off. Also the coating on my battery door is starting to peel away in some spots. And the metal ring around the camera lens fell off.
I dragged a key on it to test it. It wouldnt scratch. Gorilla glass!
As you'll see here, the MT4G has Gorilla Glass, so it is exceptionally tough. I've seen people drag keys across it and there isn't a scratch after.

I feel the same about my old G1. The screen doesn't feel near as tough as my MT4G's. Maybe there are different versions of Gorilla Glass, and the newer phones have a tougher model.
use gorilla glass, once you have it you wont regret it and its worth it
I use a screen protector due to dust and not scratches, I also have a case that seals the edges from dust. That is my real concern.

This is true, I have never been able to get it perfectly, and I can't smooth out all the bubbles either. It's annoying to look at sometimes but there's not much i can do about it. Sometimes I don't use a case so I have my phone with other things in my pockets.
run mine naked, ended up with a minor scratch most likely from something in my pocket. I have to really look for it when the screen is off, don't even notice when screen is on. Had mine since release.
My wife on the other hand... I think it was the first 2 weeks before she managed to put a scratch in the screen. I think she dropped it in the car onto a upward pointing nail file.
Had mine since about a month before it was officially announced to be released.
Never used a screen protector.
I dont have a case and also have dropped the phone NUMEROUS times, on the concrete, face down (in fact, more times than I can remember- and probably an ongoing couple of times a week, at normal ))
I have a very minimal amount of "scratches" on the screen; however there is a very small sort of dent on the the edge from the impact of one of the falls.

Hi everyone,
So the question is pretty clear I think, I want to know if the Nexus comes with its own screen protector from LG/Google?
Thanks!
Sort of. It has one front and back. It looks like it's not intended to be kept on there, because there is a tiny tab to remove it, but mine seems perfect so I still have it on after several weeks!

Yes and they are perfectly cut but the front one has volume and power button symbols on it though but work very well still got my back one on.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Yes, the Nexus 4 comes with front and back ones. They are pretty high quality too-nothing like those 5-for-a-dollar ones you get on eBay or the one that comes on Samsung devices. Like somebody else said, there are pictures on the front of the power and two volume buttons. They aren't that annoying though. I took off the factory screen protector and put on my Skinomi a few weeks ago because I got it for that reason lol. I still have the back protector on.

Thanks everyone,
does the device arrive with the protectors on it or are they separate?
Why am I asking? Assuming they come on the device, I don't want to think that I haven't received the protectors.
Typically those are the shipping protectors, they should be on the device. They really aren't met to be left on but to protect the glass in the box during shipping from scuffs and dirt.

Yes and no.
You are for the most part right, but since they have cut outs for camera and proximity/light sensor, it's pretty clear they expected people to leave them on.
I received my Nexus 4 in the mail yesterday and have left the screen protector on it's actually better than most screen protectors that are pre-installed on devices. I also think the volume and power indicators are actually quite useful. I'm still getting used to the location of the power button (coming from an HTC Sensation where it was on top). Like someone mentioned the indicators aren't too distracting either.

No it does not. It comes with a film that is static applied as part of the manufacturing process but they are not meant to be used as screen protectors.
they're screen protectors in a sense that its to protect it while it ships to you, but not meant for long term use. it doesn't have a good glide for your finger.
the front screen is rather tough. I've had mine naked for 2 months and not a single scratch. you may want to leave the back one on until you find a more permanent solution if you really want a screen protector.

I've only had my Nexus 4 just over a week & now noticed the Oleophobic Coating is starting to wear in the middle of the screen were it's been rubbing in my pocket.
Past phones i had with this coating has never had this problem upto a year after purchase.
I'm not really keen on screen protectors, but it looks like the Nexus 4 needs one just to protect the coating.
Im now considering RMA it, and the next Nexus i get stick a screen protector on right out of the box.
So has anybody else suffered this problem were the coating starting to come away?

it should last between 4-6 months, it will wear alot faster rubbing on materials or if you clean the screen often, you can buy those drops to restore a coat ontop.

It seems a few others have suffered the same problem as me with the coating starting to rub off in places.
I remember iphones & ipads suffered the same problem to, not sure if it still effects the iphone 5
In the past I've had GS1, HTC Sensation, GS2 & GS3 none of these ever had a problem with the coating wearing, also have a Nokia Lumia 800 & same goes for this coating still just as good as the day i bought it.
Maybe it's somekind of manufacturing fault with a few Nexus 4's, were they not applied the coating properly.... who knows.
Eitherway think next week I'm gonna return it, and the next one i get hopefully without any other problems i'm going to put a screen protector on it right out of the box.

So I'm wondering if anyone else out there has make a mark on their baby yet. (Side note: the fake metal sides are cheap af. I tested it by lightly tapping my cast, I broke my wrist, and it left a Mark that won't come off. Come on LG even my samsung plastic held up better.)

Haha, the other day I was driving a fork lift truck at work like I usually do and I guess I was going to fast when I hit a bump and my phone flew to where my feet was and then to the ground face down. Luckily the only damage done was a tiny nick to the screen that you can't even tell it's there unless I point it out. It was bugging me to death the first few hours but now I barely notice it. Can't be seen with screen on either. I was rather disappointed to. I have a phone cover on it and it shouldn't of gotten scratched but oh well. It could of been worse.
I have some hits on the frame around the screen, 2 scratches on back cover and 2 more barely noticable on the screen. That's it.
The world played out in slow motion the first time I dropped my phone. At this point though there are a few very minor scratches along the edge of the phone around the screen.
