I second that :good:
HTC One X is GG2 right? Is this true?
whats the point 2 or 3??? you can easily break even gorilla glass...its fragile like every glass...the important is also body and the whole shock resistance and luck ofcourse all my phones with gorilla was fine without any scratches but my fault so be calm its good enought

The main advantage is that they can reduce the thickness of the glass while keeping the strength at least the same. This means screen closer to the surface so you get that "floating image" effect like on the One X and One (and to a slightly lesser extent the Nexus 4)
really doesnt care about it...got SGS3 and was satisfied with it...

What we're talking about here is the gg2 or gg3 on the One. Not on gs3. Why would we even bother about gs3's screen here?

Yeah, at the end of the day it will still smash if it hits the ground the wrong way, and sand will still scratch it. That's why I still use cases and screen protectors.
I'm interested to know how much it will cost to replace the screen of the one if it does get smashed, have just recently paid €160 to get my girlfriends SGS3 screen replaced

SGS3 uses GG2. So it's actually related. Anyways, GG3 should be stronger than GG2 while at same thickness but production will come later on the year. It was only announced a couple of days ago.

I love my galaxy s2 for everything that it has i think it's a perfect phone for me and i won't change it for a while.
it has enough power to play videos and the camera is also super b what else do you people want from a phone.
I have no idea why the samsung galaxy s3 is better in any way than the galaxy s2, i know i know quad core and the bigger display, yeah right.
damn that was quite embarrassing to have a iPhone beating it
Samsung get your act together NOW!!
what is going on here shouldn't gorilla glass 2 be more stable and strong than the original gorilla glass that my phone has ?

it's not made for crack resistant it's scratch resistant. GG2 is thinner so it cracks easier
That's a shame. I guess I'll keep my GS2 this year. It might not be the latest tech, but it's built like a tank. I'm guessing the square shape hugs the frame better than the s3 "pebble".
Why are people slamming Samsung?
The SIII have a much larger glass on the font than the iphone 4, so of course it will break more easily.
Gorilla glass is never designed to protect the phone from a fall, it is only hardened for scratch resistance.
If you want to protect your phone from a drop, get an Otterbox case.
People will complain about almost anything. Doesn't matter. Maybe the phone should be bullet proof. BOTH PHONES BROKE. SMH
I could care less about the iphone. The s2 survived nearly every drop on youtube while the s3 broke 4 with 6 phones on the two youtube vids I saw. For someone like me who hates cases and loves piece of mind it doesn't make much sense for me to upgrade. I've dropped my s2 on hard pavement twice, and other than a small chip on it's hump its still perfect.
Why would you want to spend £499 ($800) on a phone just to go and drop it and potentially ruin it? Where's the logic? Why can't you you just buy the phone and enjoy it? Don't go dropping the damn thing lol

people should remember that it's gorilla glass and not gorilla diamond/hardened granite/robocop/chuck norris - it's still glass.
Samsung did the best they can by providing a slightly hardened glass - The phone has been made extra slim and light and it isn't advertised to be destruction proof so one should know the weigh the potential risk involved in dropping it before buying it, and care for it as such.

The gorilla glass is scratch resistance and not scratch proof like what most ppl think it is.
too late to have such a pathetic doubt.
Gorilla glass... It's just a brand. They make advertising's while other glass manufacturers don't. That has nothing to do with quality. My Desire HD (soon to be retired) doesn't have gorilla glass and only minimal scratches after 2years of usage. It gives you a false security when you have it.
Thats really funny.
Actually it does state it in the official website

I'm not sure how long you searched for...but it only took 7 minutes for someone to find the answer and post it on here to make you look dumb. I would try a little more googling next time.
On the other side of things, the Gorilla Glass on the S3 is a joke...Mine has with many scratches already and as others have posted, I have the Desire HD and Galaxy Nexus both have been going strong with barely any scratch at all since their release dates when I bought them.
I will just wait till it get really bad then replace the glass probably.

Well a TPU gelcase would solve the problems, there are stylish ones on both amazon and ebay, It depends whether you want to sacrifice that premium feel.
I have a feeling this glass isn't gorilla glass. Too many are scratching or cracking too easy.

Because Gorilla Glass 2 cannot scratch or get cracks right? /s
Seriously, even Matias Duarte proclaims it's Gorilla Glass 2 on both sides of the phone. Also, the front can pick up scratches as easily as the front, along with the same perceptibility of cracking as well. Just look for any cracked SGS3's or Nexus 4's (they are already out there, I've seen one personally). The back come off very easily, and I wouldn't be surprised if you could order a replacement from eBay in the coming months for about $50-$100 to start, and then leveling off at a reasonable $20-$30.

I'm inclined to agree with you. I've babied my Nexus 4, had it in a TPU case since day 1 and it's still managed to get scratches on the back near the top. They're very fine and only really seeable at certain angles, but they're plentiful. The front is spotless.
I can't for one second believe gorilla glass is used on both sides.

You know what..your exactly right.....So strange you say that..I Actually have a small section on my screen where it looks like a scuff mark..I took a magnifying glass and looked more closely and it looks like the coating is gone?? Wth lol...Called at&t and getting a replacement and ordered a tempered glass .3 thick one iff ebay..ordered 2 incase I mess it up..they were 15 a piece putting them my replacement phone soon as it arrives..
I'm glad that the phone is holding up pretty well in tests, but I'm still definitely not taking the risk of not having a case on it. My note 2 dropped from below pocket height onto asphalt for me, not even face first, and spiderwebbed completely, even taking away lots of touch sensitivity. Not risking that again!
Reminds me of the old yellow and black Nextel we used to dent the walls with to show how tough it was, One of the techs actually heaved it through 2 thickness of 5/8" sheet rock. The battery cover popped off and the battery fell out. But as John Cameron Swayze used to say, it kept on ticking.
Dropped mine one foot. Hairline crack. I am now a gorilla glass non-believer.

They could say the freakin screen is made of highly reflective aircraft aluminum. Don't make a difference to me! I'm still putting a case and screen protector on it! I'm using the moshi visor xt. It was what the att store had the morning it came out. It's a nice screen protector but it itself scratches and scuffs. However when the screen is on you can't see any of them. I love my big HD display! Until the time comes that the screens are indestructible I will be protecting mine!

I agree....Like I said above for some reason these screens scuff so easy it's almost like a coating comes off (happened to me) I ended up sending it back for another one and soon as it came I instantly threw on a Tempered Glass off ebay for 16 bucks....and put it on in a steamed room like they say...And sure enough its dust free..and the glass protector feels so smooth and no loss in touch responsiness even with spen, Good idea to grab a Tempered Glass protector...helps alot
I've broken both the Note 2 and Note 3! Guess I'm just unlucky.

I'm saying it uses the industry standard toughened glass that all other flagship phones use at the moment. The screen is no more prone to scratching than any other phone.
I know it should theoretically be the same as other similar phones, but I feel that it has scratched easily. Same conditions as previous phones, but in a month I already have more scratches on my screen than I ever did on my Nexus 4 or 5. Grr.
