[Q] Not answering incoming call - galaxy s5 - 4.4 kitkat - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First off, I didn't find this anywhere on the forum, so I hope it's not a dupe - but it's a very annoying problem. I have a Galaxy S5 on KitKat. Here's the issues (pretty much all related):
Often times, I'll answer an incoming call successfully but the person on the other line simply hears a continuous ring cycle.
(Same as #1), but instead of hearing ring cycles - they get voicemail.
On other occasions my phone will be face up on a counter, I'll get a phone call, and when I walk over to the device it will "automatically answer" but the person never connects on the other line.
For all of these occasions, this seems to happen more frequently the first time someone tries to call me. Sometimes additional incoming calls from that number will go through with more success, but not all the time. Restarting the phone and pulling out the SIM card and battery not only do not fix the issue, but seem to consistently re-create the problem.
I should also note that I had Google voice as my provider for voicemail, but I have temporarily disabled that and set up my voicemail through Verizon - still doesn't help. Also 3rd party dialer apps like Dialer One do not make a difference.
Here are my settings:
Android Version 4.4.4 - Kitkat, no updates available (non rooted)
Blocking mode disabled
Motions and Gestures disabled
S-Voice disabled
Preferred network mode: LTE / CDMA **This seemed to solve the problem at first, but it came back immediately. (It was set to 'Global')
I've spent hours trying to fix this and contemplated rooting my device to try to get it to work, but to be honest I'd rather just exchange the phone for a new one before I did something like that. I also have not restored to Factory Default... but again that is preferably a last resort.
Any thoughts? I need a 100% working phone for my job and missing phone calls and having to call people back just isn't cutting it.

First try a data factory reset, if that doesn`t help refash the stock rom with odin 3.09 and after that factory reset/wipe cache in recovery.

Im having the same issue, i cleared the cache, did a factory reset and made sure s voice was turned off, it cleared the issue up for about a month. Recently i have been having this issue happen more and more. Im starting to think it may have something to do with the Bluetooth or the visual Voice mail / voice mail. Anyone else have any ideas on what else to try or do ? The only problem is recreating the environment to cause it to happen. Right now its completely random.

Real problem..

Hi Folks,
I've been having some proper trouble with my Hero over the last couple of days. Namely that it won't make phonecalls directly out of the pocket. If it's been locked, in my pocket, I take it out and try dialling and it just goes silent for a second then beeps and reverts back to the phone screen. In every instance I've tried a restart and it works.
Is this going to need to be sent back or is it something I'm doing wrong? Also, have any of you noticed your screen scrolling between screens without the phone being touched?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Strange. The first thing always to try (especially before you go to the extreme of sending it back), is a factory reset.
Remember it'll wipe the device back to factory, and you'll loose all your data. You'll have to resync your contacts etc.
But its the best way to figure out if its a hardware or software issue. Factory settings here means a reformat and reimage of the whole OS. There's an option in the settings to do it.
Thanks mate. I tried the reset this afternoon and so far, so good.
I had some problems with mine with the calls as I couldn't make or receive a call even though there was signal.
People would call me on the landline as they tried to call and said the phone was off (stranger still the call wouldn't go to my voicemail and would say the number was unobtainable) and I wouldn't be able to call out.
It would say dialling for 5-6 seconds maybe more then beep and go back to the phone dialler screen.
Many calls to T-Mobile later (tried new sim card and a factory reset) and it still wouldn't work. T-Mobile techs suggested I switch it to run on 2G networks only which made it better but I argued that my previous phone (SE W910i) didn't need manual switching between networks to work properly.
So after more discussion they agreed that something wasn't right with my Hero and sent a replacement out.
So far so good for the replacement
Thanks for the heads up, mate. Since I did my factory reset I've had no trouble but I'm half expecting it!
No problem
I'll admit that I keep my Hero on 2G networks now (not for any signal and call issues) as it really helps save battery power. Yeah, the net performance is slower but after all its only fetching a few facebook updates and the gmail is still fast to use. I can switch it back if need be for fast internet.

SMS receiving issues

Hello everyone!
I've got some weird issues with my Samsung Focus. Throughout the day, my phone doesn't receive any messages. It can be for periods of 10 hours. If I shut off my phone for a minute, then turn it on, I'll either get a message then another a minute later..etc.. Or I'll get a flood of messages at one time. The messages were all sent from the past, and come in the proper order, but not at the right times (they have a delay). I didn't have this issue until I started looking around at my diagnostic application so I believe I accidently changed a setting in it. I've already talked to at&t but the store here won't do much with it because the water indicator is red. I have my phone in developer unlocked state (I sideload apps and apps that I make). The reset data functions don't seem to change the diagnostic settings back, so I'm thinking I'll have to flash it with an original rom, but I'm not an expert by any means, but I'll understand whatever instructions or tests that are given.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I haven't had a phone that never had text messaging issues so this is a bit annoying for me when people think you're ignoring them.

[Help?]Verizon S5 - Can't Receive or Make calls.

I'm having a constant problem with my phone. It seems like any time I leave the house and return, I'm unable to make or receive calls, until I reboot or switch airplane mode on/off. I still receive and send text/mms just fine, it's only calls. Anyone experience anything similar or have any ideas what may be going on? I have a constant 3-4 bar LTE signal.
Sent from my SM-G900V using XDA Free mobile app
Same problem
I am also experiencing this problem. I can send texts and otherwise use data to connect to websites and such, but cannot make or receive calls. When someone calls me, it goes straight to voicemail. When I make a call it does not even start ringing, or beep at the start of a call to indicate the connection.
I had this issue when i first got my phone. i had to call verizon and they updated something on their side and reset a few things.

Part of me thinks this wouldn't be a bad thing to have, just in case that pesky Ex decides today is the day she wants to call you. lolz
Nothing Worked
If anyone else is facing this problem, I would like to say that all Verizon could do was send me a refurbished phone. Even after a factory reset and resetting the network (on their end) worked. I hope this problem doesn't affect too many people.
Same issue - S5 will not make/recv calls

I had an issue with my S5 connecting to 4GLTE (Because of something stupid I did playing around). Chat give Verizon a ring (or chat with them on their website) and they will have you do the following:
1. Turn off WiFi.
2. Power down your phone
3. They will resync the signal (and do other secret things)
4. Power up your phone.
5. Your phone will reconnect to 4GLTE, the radio will then recycle, then connect back.
I've had zero issues since I did this a few days ago. Wouldn't hurt to try. Have your IMEI number ready for them incase they need it.
Solution, sort of

Didn't work for me unfortunately. I ended up going back to Costco and swapping it out for a new one. Back in business....for now. Thanks for the help.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S5, 4G LTE, Verizon it can make calls and send text fine the problem is that it cannot receive calls and text. Grateful your assistance in resolving this issue.
I haven't had the issue for a while but I had to get a new phone from Verizon .

Need Opinions And Thoughts Please

Ok ive been pulling my hair out for a while with this problem so im really hoping you guys can give me some answers or suggestions to help me fix it My Girlfriend has the Galaxy S5 SM-G900V. Baseband version G900VVRU2BOG5 So rooting or custom ROMS is out of the question so that leaves me with trying to diagnose and eliminate this problem without a easy way out.
Ok the problem is once she updated the phone to lollipop she had all the common problems that come with it over time i have slowly eliminated them with factory resets and cache cleaning and such although i have one problem that not even verizon can figure out. The phone itself with occassionally and randomly just refuse to make or receive calls its a very odd problem because the phone will send and receive sms and mms just fine when this happens but when we try to dial out it just sits at dialing and never connects, when calls are dialed into the phone it will ring 5 times or so then go to voice mail or just go straight to voicemail altogether without ever ringing the s5 shows no sign of anyone ever trying to call at all no ringing no records nothing. Once in a blue moon it will ring 4 times on the dial in and then the s5 will start ringing around the 5th ring which is extremely long time IMO. This happens very randomly and in all different locations i have disabled call blocking and auto reject i have tried safe mode to only experience the same problems, i have factory reset several times. Verizon opened a ticket with there tier 2 techs and network development team to check out the issue they tell us everything is completely fine and theres nothing they can see wrong. But they do not deny the problem is there they just cant explain it. Now get this, This is the second phone that has done this to her Ther first one had the same problem and was warranty claimed this is the second phone and same exact issues. Im not sure what else i can do i am a very tech savy person and this one has got me stumped the only thing i can see thats odd for me is the phone has 3 Phone services running in the background But I believe this may have something to do with the Touchwiz Easy Or Regular Home UI althought im not sure why it would use seperate apps. Anyway any input would be helpful Thanks

No calling, only SMS/data/wifi working on any ROM and/or stock

I've been using AICP for a while (Marshmallow), but haven't done an update in a while. By a while, I mean that I don't think I've flashed anything in weeks. Suddenly, I cannot make or receive calls today. Yesterday I made a number of calls just fine. I checked all the standard possible causes, dialer apps, default apps for phone, etc. After no success, I decided to flash back to stock.
Now I'm on stock 6.0. Same problem, cannot make calls. All I get is a screen which says "dialing" until it makes a tone sound and hangs up, never rings anyone. My phone never rings or responds when other people call. I do have full bars and service, and my APN is set up properly with AT&T in the USA. SMS and Data work fine, and so does WiFi. No other problems at all with the phone. I've had it for about a year and a half with no real hardware issues other than a loose charging port. No drops, no cracked screen or anything.
I'm wondering if anybody has a clue about what the problem with my phone is. I'm willing to generate and provide logs if there's a way to do that which could show the issue.
EDIT1: Derp, just tried the SIM in my girlfriend's phone. Seems to by my sim card. I'll go to AT&T tomorrow and report back here if the issue is fixed.
