There is an LED on the nexus 9
but i think theres a bug that the os cant turn it on
notification light?: http://youtu.be/DUFqX0MsEfo

My bet is that is the ambient light sensor... some cameras will pick up the IR emissions when you film it.

Ambient light sensors don't emit infra red or any light. When you see flashing lights via a camera from a device, it is the proximity sensor which flashes infra red, which gets reflected back when the device is close to the face.
The Nexus 9 has no proximity sensor, and so doesn't emit pulses of infra red.
The LED could be an infra red LED for lighting up our faces in the dark for face unlocking perhaps, although it wouldn't be a yellow component as shown in the iFixIt tear down.
The video looks like a white flashing LED.

Phil

Aye !!

There IS a notification light, but that's not it.
The notification light on the Nexus 9 is on the metal trim on the right side of the top speaker.
However, the real notification light doesn't work for notifications either.

No, it's not. The center of the top bezel is the ambient light sensor - the camera. The rectangle on the metal trim to the right of the top speaker is the notification LED. Do you have a Nexus 9? I'm holding one.

Here's photo of the same thing on mine. Discovered the same way letting the battery die then charging.
Tried light flow and cant get it too light any other way. Also the top right is an Antenna probably left over from the LTE version, its the exact same style as the HTC One M8 antenna implementation.

Wrong. That black piece of plastic in the aluminium frame (white N9) is just that: plastic. Most probably to absorb shock or temperature-related changes of the frame.
Here are iFixIt's photos of the PCB in that area:
FRONT
BACK
As you can clearly see (or NOT see): There's nothing there.
However, on the other side of the device - what can be seen in the top post, there's something:
See that little yellow thingy above the USB port? Looks like this:

And that's a RGB LED.
(The ambient sensor is right of the black square's top right corner in the FRONT picture above.)

So I watched the video in the OP and didn't notice any light bleed. Is there something wrong with your tablet? ??

No, that's incorrect. The LED notification light is on the metal rim to the right of the top speaker. This is not an intenna. This is not a proximity sensor. It is the LED notification light.
The video shows infrared light that we can't see directly. Assuming that is infrared, that is related to proximity sensing.
Why are you guys telling me I'm wrong, and just guessing? I'm not uncertain about what it is. LOL... I'm telling you, not asking you, what it is. Stop making things up.

HTC Evo & Hero with blue LED swap

Here is my Brand New Evo that I swapped the LEDs for blue, the status LED blue and the full charge led white.
The Hero has the same setup except the top lights are white for status and blue for full charge, and also has a blue trackball. The red and green LEDs were swapped out to brighter ones as well.

Is this a simply done or is there a lot of knowledge behind it?
Mind post a rough guide of how you did it?
It is very cool though. I dyed my hero all black, so a blue LED light would just look even better.
if you are good at soldering small 0603 LEDs then it shouldnt be a problem as the phone was pretty easy to take apart.
All you do is open the phone take the main logic board out, locate the 4 LEDs under the buttons and solder in new ones, then the 2 up top for status and battery led. I also found a Bi-color LED to the right, I changed those as well but idk what its for or if they are even used.

This is an absolutely sick mod, but I can't help wonder: is the Evo's screen that much superior than that of the Hero? I've got one of the latter that belongs to my little brother in my hands, and it doesn't look that horrible.

I've already purchased an Evo that's on its way, so don't take what I'm going to say the wrong way, but bigger doesn't necessarily mean the screen itself is better. I'm referring to the clarity/color reproduction/brightness of the two screens.

Yes, they're supposed to light up when the phone is on...if yours doesn't, you might want to get it exchanged. That isn't normal at all.

Well, if you really want to get the buttons to light up, you can do this mod. After all, it might just be a case of a bad LED diode thingy that you can replace.
Can this b done w/ sharpie?
Many people were able to achieve the same effect on the TP2 using a colored sharpie. Is this a possibility?
Can you confirm the number and color of LEDs?
Also it appears the buttons only light up while not plugged in. Odd.

I replaced 4 LEDs inder the touch buttons, to blue
the signal LED to Blue
the Full battery LED to White
and i also seen a Bi-Color red/green led with 2 leds one blue and one white, even though im not sure what they are for. they are located in the earpiece grill to the right of the status and battery LED
the LEDs only seem to light up in darker areas, im assuming with a light sensor,
as for the LEDs turning on with the charger plugged in, I only noticed them turning off when the batteyr was at full charge.
Wow, the speaker for my ear on my HTC Hero is crackly... I want to sell it, maybe I'll replace it myself then

I've actually found a lot of topics on this, some say it is a software issue, and some say it is hardware... I just wonder if everyone has it, or if I've only started my adventure of returning phones until I get one that actually WORKS. If they are all like this, I'd be disappointed, but not nearly as disappointed as if I have to "roll the dice" again and wait another 3 days and buy another Zagg screen protector.
Changing the white balance to anything but Auto seems to fix this.
Nope. My camera seems to work fine. Took multiple pictures of a white envelope and no color variation at all. Might be your camera or even the lighting conditions of that particular shot that threw it off.
What kind of lighting? It only seems to appear in dim/indoor setting.
Here are three more... all are on Auto white balance, even though the colors seem to change a lot with the light:
Some sunlight (door open, keyboard on floor) - No pink
Indoors + Flash (same place, door shut) - No pink
Indoors (same conditions, no flash) - PINK!
It isn't incapable of showing a pure white, the conditions just have to be ideal.

It's actually the Happy Hacking Pro 2.
The Nexus among many other phone had the 'pink dot' effect.
I noticed this was most common if you have Auto-White on, and quickly open the camera and snap a picture.
The red dot would come up at first when the camera was opened, but once the camera focuses, the pink dot disappears.
Its mainly has to do with the focusing of the lenses I think....

Thanks dito33. Changing the white balance makes photo color looks not so natural (in my point of view). I know lighting will help, but not in indoor low-light environment. I just want my SGS2 to be my first perfect android phone. BTW, i am a bit disappointed with the Pink Spot issue on SGS2 which cost me over 500 pound, not 50 pound.
Still thinking whether looking into exchange my phone to other brand/model or just keep it.
I went looking through all my photos, and can't find that pink tint in any of them. The one thing on this camera that I find annoying is when shooting video, everything will get a green-ish hue to it for a minute, and then for no reason go back to normal.

This has been an issue since I got the phone
Also, before I make a video, I let the camera go for 20 seconds, then it'll say "recording failed", let it go for another minute or so to see if it fails again. If it doesn't, I'll then go ahead and make a video. This happens on queue every time.
A friend of mine has this exact issue on his fascinate since day one.

[Q] shadowed/darker screen area, is this normal?

Hi.
I received my Nexus 10 yesterday and, after a few hours of use, I've started noticing a shadowed/darker strip along the top of the display (the side that holds the front camera). Take a look at this photo:
{

}
The effect is not very noticeable in this image (I'm not a good photographer), but to the naked eye is pretty obvious. The photo at this post shows a similar effect (the left side is darker than the right).
Does your Nexus 10 also suffer this problem or mine is a faulty unit and I have to return it?
Thanks.
Cheers,

Yes, it's a white screen on full brightness, sorry for not pointing that out before. Maybe the following photo shows the issue better (full brightness again) (I know it's difficult to see it, I look at my N10's screen and I see it clearly, but then I look at my photos and the issue is not that obvious):
It's the shadow along the right end of the display.
Thank you for your help.
Cheers,

The screen looks a bit murky on the first photo. Second one doesn't look too bad though.
The issue your having might be because the backlighting isn't uniform.
Can you take a photo of a fully black screen to see if backlight bleed might be causing the issue.

Well it's nothing to do with backlight bleed then. The bleed on yours looks quite good btw. I assume it's completely unnoticeable at 50% brightness. Any chance of a photo at 50% brightness for comparison?
I'm not sure what else it could be atm. Is it only noticeable on a white screen or can you see it on other colours too?

I think that if the replacement unit had been the first one received, maybe I wouldn't have noticed the issue (who knows).
Unfortunately the new one has a dead pixel, so I will also have to return it.

No problem, there you go, the one in the left is the first to come, the one I think suffers from the issue the most; the one in the right is the new one, the one with the dead pixels (although, upon second inspection, now I think it may be dust under the screen). The shadowed area is at the top:
The photo has been taken in a dark room, full brightness in both devices.

Thanks!

I think that picture is deceiving as I dont think those two huge points at the top of the screen are light bleed. I tried taking a pic of the light bleed I have (which is 2 small points at the bottom) but when I took a picture it turned out like your picture and made it appear as the whole screen is a disaster.
Unless it is actually like that then yeah return it for sure.

Aye just focusing on the lower portion of the screen it still looks like there's 6 -7 bleed points - I would return it personally.
That is really bad and should be exchanged...
Lucky mine is nothing like that either. It only has one tiny point at the bottom right corner when held on landscape. Seems like my unit is actually mostly defect free from many of the issues people have been reporting (no loose grill etc.)
My white 32gb has no light bleed at all, unfortunately my GF appropriated it & bought me a black 32gb to replace it and it does have significant light bleed - quite a lot in the upper right corner and little spots running along the bottom of the screen. Best Buy will replace it but they aren't getting any new stock in for the foreseeable future. Is this more common in the black model?
Mine just arrived an hour ago, no bleed here. Man this thing is fast and the screen is beautiful. Build quality looks great. Still testing. Guess I'll test blue tooth and the card reader. Don't really care about bluetooth too much, it's such a halfa$$ed protocol but I'll test it anyway.

you could set the tablet at normal setting under normal lighting and see if you notice the bleed. 100% brightness with a solid black background in a dim room is not how most people would use it.

Just finished testing bluetooth. Rock solid, tethered to my Apple bluetooth keyboard and trackpad. No disconnects from either bluetooth or wifi. Even some of the function keys worked. One thing of note. My tablet came with mk1 preinstalled and the box was still factory sealed. I'm guessing it's a newer build.

If I use the Backlight Bleed Test app which sets brightness at 100% and look at it in a dark room it is almost the same as OP's pic. The real annoyance for me is the light in the lower right corner as it is pretty visible when watching Netflix letterboxed movies. I'm still torn over returning it as I figure there is pretty much an equal chance of getting something worse.
Is there anyone who has no light bleed from the LEDs at the bottom of the screen?

Yeah same, I have a few points at the bottom only noticeable when hight brightness and black background so not really bothered considering it doesn't really effect movies or normal usage.
I have some really faint bleed on the ride hand side but have to have brightness max, dark background and the room light off. So once again nothing to worry about.
In LCD's screen light bleed is expected but if it annoys you then try an exchange but sods law you will end up with something worse.
I bought two, one from Amazon, one from Tigerdirect. Both have really bad light bleeds. The one from Tigerdirect is a little bit better, but as soon as I open up camera app, brightness automatically turn up to 100% and the bleeds at bottom are very noticeable and annoying!

Screen pressure under front camera?

On the top left corner of my screen on the nav bar, right below the camera/proximity sensor I see what appears to be just a slight bit of pressure on the screen causing it to be slightly brighter . It's barely visible, and I'm not talking about the light bleed issue from the secondary display, because this is on the other side. It's very faint, and I can't see it when the screen background is dark or if the screen is off. It can best be seen by tilting the phone forward.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Yes I have a black bar under my front camera, proximity sensor area. If I look up from bottom to top of screen it's lighter. I had mine warrantied out today from T-Mobile
I had that issue with my first V20 from AT&T. I went to AT&T and they changed it out at no cost. I get a new one and it has a new screen 'pressure' located on the bottom corners. Makes black look a little grey in the corners.
It's on mines also, but it's a dark spot instead of a brighter spot. Right above over the status bar, you can even see it in white pics too. Wanted to send it to LG so I can get a replacement but want to know if it's fixable first.

I have this too and I wonder if it is from the CPU/GPU heating up. If you look at the ifixit teardown, that is approximately where the heat outlets. I have it on mine. It was day 1 and I was flashing some roms.

Yeah it's mostly when I flash ROMs especially AOKP or LOS. I'm thinking it's a backlight problem, because when I go back to stock it doesn't show... And it could be the CPU/GPU also because during flashing ROMs that part specifically gets warm.
Maybe you are right. I didn't see it in stock but it's super prominent in LOS. I was flashing roms for like 4 hours though. Not sure what is the exact issue.

Alright so I reverted to stock and locked the bootloader and everything. That dark spot is just as present in the stock ROM. The T-Mobile store representative agreed it was an issue. Now I gotta ship it back and wait for the replacement. Just got it a day ago man. :crying:
JFYI...have it here too.
My replacement V20 has the exact same thing?!?! Dark spot in the middle of the status bar on white (or lighter) screens. What is weirder is that it is the exact same pattern and location as the first one. It is present in both stock and LOS. I suppose I'll just wait around a year and warranty it out then because I just want to start using the phone. I included an image for people that were curious how it looked.

I'm experiencing the same thing with my V20. I can see a dark spot under the proximity sensor. Did anyone get it fixed somehow through a replacement or repair through LG?
Have any of you used a simple free screen test app to help confirm the "fault" you seem to have?
Hi Guys. I Just recently bought an LG V20 and have a similar issue. It doesn't affect day to day use but was wondering if it is normal because of the 2nd screen?

I have that same issue ^ not as burnt though but same place and shape. No screen retention at all from what I can tell, just this!
Hasn't bothered me enough yet to do anything, can only really see it on white screens.
Same
It isn't pressure spots - it's IPS light bleed. With regards to the darker patch just underneath the second screen - this is because of light differences between the main panel lighting and the second screen lighting (and again, because it is IPS, the light bleeds over if the second screen is brighter than the main screen).
