The display's not AMOLED; it's LCD.

Wow I would return it, most have little bits in the corners but that's shockingly bad

I think that picture is deceiving as I dont think those two huge points at the top of the screen are light bleed. I tried taking a pic of the light bleed I have (which is 2 small points at the bottom) but when I took a picture it turned out like your picture and made it appear as the whole screen is a disaster.
Unless it is actually like that then yeah return it for sure.

2 little ones is Normal and not really noticeable, I'd say if It's really noticeable and annoying I'd say it's probably faulty
Sent from my SM-P600 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Aye just focusing on the lower portion of the screen it still looks like there's 6 -7 bleed points - I would return it personally.

That is really bad and should be exchanged...

Lucky mine is nothing like that either. It only has one tiny point at the bottom right corner when held on landscape. Seems like my unit is actually mostly defect free from many of the issues people have been reporting (no loose grill etc.)

My white 32gb has no light bleed at all, unfortunately my GF appropriated it & bought me a black 32gb to replace it and it does have significant light bleed - quite a lot in the upper right corner and little spots running along the bottom of the screen. Best Buy will replace it but they aren't getting any new stock in for the foreseeable future. Is this more common in the black model?

Mine just arrived an hour ago, no bleed here. Man this thing is fast and the screen is beautiful. Build quality looks great. Still testing. Guess I'll test blue tooth and the card reader. Don't really care about bluetooth too much, it's such a halfa$$ed protocol but I'll test it anyway.
32 GB, Black, USA, Wifi version.

you could set the tablet at normal setting under normal lighting and see if you notice the bleed. 100% brightness with a solid black background in a dim room is not how most people would use it.

Just finished testing bluetooth. Rock solid, tethered to my Apple bluetooth keyboard and trackpad. No disconnects from either bluetooth or wifi. Even some of the function keys worked. One thing of note. My tablet came with mk1 preinstalled and the box was still factory sealed. I'm guessing it's a newer build.

Coz the latest update hasnt been released yet in the UK.

If I use the Backlight Bleed Test app which sets brightness at 100% and look at it in a dark room it is almost the same as OP's pic. The real annoyance for me is the light in the lower right corner as it is pretty visible when watching Netflix letterboxed movies. I'm still torn over returning it as I figure there is pretty much an equal chance of getting something worse.
Is there anyone who has no light bleed from the LEDs at the bottom of the screen?

Yeah same, I have a few points at the bottom only noticeable when hight brightness and black background so not really bothered considering it doesn't really effect movies or normal usage.
I have some really faint bleed on the ride hand side but have to have brightness max, dark background and the room light off. So once again nothing to worry about.
In LCD's screen light bleed is expected but if it annoys you then try an exchange but sods law you will end up with something worse.

I bought two, one from Amazon, one from Tigerdirect. Both have really bad light bleeds. The one from Tigerdirect is a little bit better, but as soon as I open up camera app, brightness automatically turn up to 100% and the bleeds at bottom are very noticeable and annoying!

New Galaxy S2 Batch Better Screen

I have bought 2 Galaxy S From the first batch for me and my.
Now I just purchased one for my father.
And his screen is much better, may be it is just the calibration
But the color seem more bright, vivid and white.
the color of mine is more yellow.
Just a thought
May be Samy improve for the last batch
No pictures and it didnt happen..

mine is very white as well, I have seen the ones with yellowing and mine doesn't have it.
May be is only that i don't have chance and the 2 first i get is like that.
In fact i don't see a band like other thread mention, it just like calibration thing.
But it is ok, if i haven't see my dad's one i would never notice
i don't think picture would reveal that small details, and will send his phone to the dad day.
Thx
Have you checked the Settings>display> Background Effects to verify both are on the same setting, and yours isn't on movie?
I read somewhere that some specific models have a yellowish colour problem on the screen..
This really shouldn't be normal, so my best answer is to send it in for repair
No yellowing on mine all looks good.
Are both phones using the same brightness settings?
On my phone, when the brightness is low, whites have a yellow cast, but on full brightness, they look very good.
Mine is white as well. No yellowish color or pink spots on camera shots.

What he described is not the problem that people are facing.
BTW Engadget are simply repeating what people are saying here. They have no information of their own and it was people here mailing them that alerted them to the problem in the first place.

I've noticed on mine that the colour temperature gets warmer at lower brightnesses. Also dark grey takes on a brown cast. On full brightness it's perfect though. No left hand side yellow cast either that I can see.
There's 60 pages of discussion on this already and the points you're making have been made there a dozen times. Do we really need another 60 page thread on the exact same issue? In the other thread there's also a code to tell what version of screen you have. It would be interesting to see if the claimed "new batch" has a different version.

The main question arises....HAS THE BANDING issue been rectified...so i can FINALLY go head with my S2 purchase ? I'm hesitant to purchase such an expensive device..KNOWING it has a very obvious banding defect...and it seems samsung is unaware of its existence!
I had to ask this question, when I had my S8500 I always set the Brightness to 0, still the screen was enough bright with vivid colors and good contrast looked very sharp and there was no Bluish tint on the screen. But here with S-AMOLED+ if I set the Brightness to mid level or higher then the screen performs well and probably beat the former screen. But when it's set to Auto brightness it seems that the screen has a bluish effect and the whites are not perfectly white, the pictures are not that crisp like it was on the former one, in this case I'd easily say that former screen was better. Now is this a feature of S-AMOLED+ or problem? In low or 0 brightness it is the S-AMOLED which perform much better but not S-AMOLED+ !

Blotches on an all black screen? Test yours here

Can you guys with cameras that have manual control test something for me?
Following on from a post by someone else about weird blotches on an all black image displayed on the screen, I checked mine today in pitch darkness and noticed a faint 2 inch or so of blackness on one edge of the screen along with smaller blotches. It doesn't appear to be as visible as the other poster's though but I exaggerated in in the photo so it's easier to see and settings posted below for people to check as well.
This is only visible on an all black screen. This does not exist on any of the S2's I've owned. I'll check my dad's S3 tonight when I go see him in the same way but the way to photograph it to keep the results consistent are as follows:
Stick camera and phone in a cupboard and...
Phone screen brightness: 50%
Camera ISO: 200
Camera Shutter: 15 seconds
Camera Aperture: f/4.5
Remember to pre-focus and use the 10sec timer to avoid shake
Those settings will over exaggerate the effect as shown in my photo below but it makes it easier for everyone to see as you do have to focus your eyes in reality and it's not immediately obvious unless you're in pitch darkness and looking at an all black screen.
I don't know how I feel about this though but if it's visible using the above camera settings for lots of people then I'll leave it as is.
Again, it's only visible on an all black screen so make sure your image that you load is all black and not grey or something Make sure screen timeout is set to at least a minute to avoid the screen going off!

What free app? It's a black image with screen timeout extended. The rest is your camera settings to be able to fairly photograph the screen for everyone to compare, an app can't do that

I didn't see those nope! Thanks for the links. Seems strange though as the white S3 belonging to my dad has none of the blotches, neither does a pebble blue on another forum. My 2 S2 handsets had no issues either.
Oh well!
My first phone: (F/4, ISO 800, 20sec)
Second phone: (F/4, ISO 800, 30sec)
The guy at the store (**** Smith in Australia) was unable to reproduce the issue in-store, so swapped the phone out and said I'd have to go to samsung if I reported the same issue again. The 2nd phone still has the issue, but as you can see, nowhere near as bad... still... not very good is it.
My 2 year SGS1 had about 4 spots - never noticed any issue. The first SGS3 was definitely noticeable just scrolling through system menus at night.
That's rather bad^^ I've emailed mobiflefun with picture so let's see what they say.
Suggest you up your exposure (duration and/or ISO) to make it a bit more noticeable. Looks like you've got a fair amount of guff in the top-left corner.
:/ dodgy manufacturing.
I don't have an SGSIII yet, but I noticed pretty much this same thing on my Galaxy Note. One night I was viewing an image with an all black screen and it had these weird blotches on the screen. I had never noticed them before.

This "issue" is known since the SGS1. Is the leakege from the AMOLED display. One thing to consider i only have a line about half a CM in the same place where you have the circle mark. Maybe a manufacture failure?
quicker way to test.
1 - dark room
2 set auto brightness off and screen to lowest brightness.
go to phone and dial *#0*#
click vibrate test which will display black screen.
and then check....
p.s been through this in other threads here but mky local telco had 26 with this issue went to another telco and got a blue one today - and no issue whatsoever...

Nexus 7 brightness problems

Just got the nexus 7, but...
When I change the brightness through the power-control widget or settings/brightness, on or close to the lowest level it turns off the display completely. I can't see anything no matter what the lighting condition is. Is this a software bug? I don't see how I can turn it back easily.
Another problem, when reading book, the light from the left bezel bleeds and I have a darker top-left corner. It is kind of annoying.
I also have the flickering problem when the brightness is set on the mid brightness... software updated right after startup.

Does your screen get completely black when the brightness is low? Now, even when I turned on the automatic, it gets complete black. Is it just me or everyone else the same?

Wow. I thought my transformer bled light bad. I'm not feeling so bad now. Of course it has some other weird issues, but has been mostly reliable. If it acts up too much I'll just send it back. I've had it for almost 30 days and can't find any real reason to take it back. It reboots every once in a while if it gets overloaded or too hot (did it today in the sun..of course I had it overclocked too.....) and I've opened the dock to see that it has shut down for some reason, but its not a huge deal. Other users have reported the same, so clearly something isn't perfect. I came to this thread because I heard that the nexus has huge issues. I was curious to see what people were reporting. if I got a nexus like that I would be p****ed! There are reports of them locking up on startup. My transformer just keeps chugging along. Really I've had more problems with apex launcher than ICS on my tf300t.
edit: the light bleed is barely noticable on mine actually...only in darkness does it seem bad. I heard ips displays have issues with that, so took it as good enough for "spec" and really its not all that detractable unless I sit in perfect darkness. Video looks pretty great on the display.

Backlight bleeding issues.

Anyone noticing the backlight bleeds in the dark and at low brightness? It looks pretty horrible on my unit. It's looks similar to the backlight bleed on the kindle paper white.

My tablet has a little backlight bleed in dark backgrounds in maximum brightness but I think that's normal for this screen technology. It's not that bad. Fortunately, I don't have the backlight bleed in white background. However, this is what I saw on the display on the store...

I have the same issue on mine. 7 little light projectors symmetrically placed appear at the bottom side of the screen at low brightness, 20-25%.
People say it's very common on these types of screens. The thing is how bad is that bleed effect.
Mine is like that too. Anyway if you don't see this kind of light bleed, you see it the wrong way. Set the brightness to very low and change background to white (you won't see it with black background), rotate it in landscape mode. You will see it. Those bleeds are at the bottom only. This is very weird. This is the first time I've seen this type of light bleed. Deal breaker for me. I'm returning mine.

You'll run into this situation someday. When the battery goes low and you're on Chrome, for instance. Indeed I mostly use tablet in portrait, and I admit that I wouldn't find out this issue if I didn't come here. But I'm picky lol.. So yeah. If this issue doesn't affect you then it's great.

Trust me, it doesn't. And even if someday the situation arose where I was forced to turn the brightness down to a very low level and use landscape on a white background for a few minutes, I think I could survive. But hey, you've got to do what you have to do.

Burn-in on screen

I can't believe I have fricking burn-in on my screen! I have had the phone less than two weeks and have been loving it but last night noticed lines on the screen. They look to line up exactly with the thread topics list on the Tapatalk app.
I have been using the app a lot but there is no way I should have burn in happening. It's not like I have even left the screen sitting in one place when using the app. My hypothesis is that it might have happened from using the ultra brightness mode (adapt display with maximum brightness on with auto brightness turned on) in bright sunshine and using the Tapatalk app.
I have googled burn in for this screen and haven't seen anything so I wonder if I somehow have a bad screen. It did look great when I first got it. If anyone out there has heard anything about this or can check their screen on a dark grey background I would appreciate it. Thanks.

On Tapatalk Dark it looks completely blotched on all of my 8 AMOLED devices.
Any colour other than dark grey is fine.

Yeah I have had an s2, galaxy nexus and s3 before this and have noticed some screen uniformity issues before. Never had seen the distinctive thin lines like I see on the two s5's I have examined. I was hoping to have just got a lemon but now that I have seen another new one that actually looked a little worse it has actually eased my mind a bit even though my OCD wants everything perfect.

Know the feeling. It freaks me out every time I use Tapatalk.
They also show up when you use a paint app and fill the screen with +-80% brightness with the screen brightness below 30%
However, they disappear when you turn the brightness of the screen up, (and compensate the black to 80% again) so it's just a bit of an error in the led calibration.
The area below the notification bar also has it when you run the colour tests after dialing *#0*#.
It's more predominantly visible on the S5 and Note 3 because those screens have the highest contrast ratio.
I'm horribly OCD over my devices too. There's a 0.5mm distance-to-screen difference between the edges of my screen protector... It bothers me every single day! >.<

Funny you should say that I just got one of those tempered glass screen protectors and was amazed that I got it on without any dust or air bubbles. Unfortunately it is also off a fraction to one side and also doesn't quite line up perfectly around the home key. I am so tempted to try to fix it every day but I know I should just leave it alone. ?
