Screen pressure under front camera? - LG V20 Questions & Answers

On the top left corner of my screen on the nav bar, right below the camera/proximity sensor I see what appears to be just a slight bit of pressure on the screen causing it to be slightly brighter . It's barely visible, and I'm not talking about the light bleed issue from the secondary display, because this is on the other side. It's very faint, and I can't see it when the screen background is dark or if the screen is off. It can best be seen by tilting the phone forward.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes I have a black bar under my front camera, proximity sensor area. If I look up from bottom to top of screen it's lighter. I had mine warrantied out today from T-Mobile

I had that issue with my first V20 from AT&T. I went to AT&T and they changed it out at no cost. I get a new one and it has a new screen 'pressure' located on the bottom corners. Makes black look a little grey in the corners.

It's on mines also, but it's a dark spot instead of a brighter spot. Right above over the status bar, you can even see it in white pics too. Wanted to send it to LG so I can get a replacement but want to know if it's fixable first.

I have this too and I wonder if it is from the CPU/GPU heating up. If you look at the ifixit teardown, that is approximately where the heat outlets. I have it on mine. It was day 1 and I was flashing some roms.

Yeah it's mostly when I flash ROMs especially AOKP or LOS. I'm thinking it's a backlight problem, because when I go back to stock it doesn't show... And it could be the CPU/GPU also because during flashing ROMs that part specifically gets warm.

Maybe you are right. I didn't see it in stock but it's super prominent in LOS. I was flashing roms for like 4 hours though. Not sure what is the exact issue.

Alright so I reverted to stock and locked the bootloader and everything. That dark spot is just as present in the stock ROM. The T-Mobile store representative agreed it was an issue. Now I gotta ship it back and wait for the replacement. Just got it a day ago man. :crying:

JFYI...have it here too.

My replacement V20 has the exact same thing?!?! Dark spot in the middle of the status bar on white (or lighter) screens. What is weirder is that it is the exact same pattern and location as the first one. It is present in both stock and LOS. I suppose I'll just wait around a year and warranty it out then because I just want to start using the phone. I included an image for people that were curious how it looked.

I'm experiencing the same thing with my V20. I can see a dark spot under the proximity sensor. Did anyone get it fixed somehow through a replacement or repair through LG?

Have any of you used a simple free screen test app to help confirm the "fault" you seem to have?

Hi Guys. I Just recently bought an LG V20 and have a similar issue. It doesn't affect day to day use but was wondering if it is normal because of the 2nd screen?

I have that same issue ^ not as burnt though but same place and shape. No screen retention at all from what I can tell, just this!
Hasn't bothered me enough yet to do anything, can only really see it on white screens.

Same

It isn't pressure spots - it's IPS light bleed. With regards to the darker patch just underneath the second screen - this is because of light differences between the main panel lighting and the second screen lighting (and again, because it is IPS, the light bleeds over if the second screen is brighter than the main screen).

Display has yellowish tint to it. Help!!

So my excitement kinda came to an early end last night. I got my second replacement mt4g due to a bad screen. This one is perfect...except that when I was reading some text on a page with a white background, I noticed that from bottom to top, the white gradually goes from white to this yellowish tint. I will post a picture of it later on tonight.
My question is, do you have/had this problem and did you end up returning it or did it go away kind of like when this was happening to the iphone 4? I really hope this really doesn't become a full-blown issue like with the washed colors, because then I would have to request a 3rd replacement and make sure that it doesn't have dead pixels, dust under the screen, washed out colors, yellow tint, crooked ffc, creaky buttons, and gaps around the bezel. Thanks.
Here is an example of what i'm talking about except my display is white at the bottom and gradually goes to the color of the phone that is on the right, at the top.

Do you think that the problem is improper screen calibration and all I have to do is wait for a software update?
225 views and one reply?? Really guys?? Not trying to sound like I'm whining, but this is a serious problem and I think i'm not the only one. I just received my replacement, and it too has this yellowish tint towards the top of the screen. This will be my 4th time that I will be requesting a replacement, so in total so far, 4 defective phones.
ur phone has a bad screen. when black looks more light greyish and when white doesn't quite look white, bad screen.

I'm sorry, but it's really difficult to tell based on the picture you linked. Is there any way you can take a comparison photo with a good screen?
I can't see anything wrong from that photo. It will take something more than this to let others know if you have a problem.

The blacks never looked grayish, the colors were bright, crisp and vibrant, it was when looking at something with a white background. This issue has nothing to do with the washed screens that people are getting.

I figured it out based on a chat I had with a friend. I think that the backlight was improperly calibrated or something. Sorry that I can't take a better picture as I have already received my exchange which is much much better, the light is just more distributed evenly then the previous phone. Plus it doesn't creak, the ffc is dead centered, and light doesn't leak through between the bezel and the screen at the top of the phone. After 4 exchanges(5 phones total), I finally got a "perfect" device.
Here is a side-by-side shot sort of(I returned the defective device before I could think of take a pic of them together due to my excitement!)
You can easily tell that the screen of the phone on the right has way more light at the bottom of it and the top doesn't which results in a more obvious yellowish tint. The phone on the left (good one) doesn't have it as bad, the light is distributed evenly. Both were on auto brightness. The good display's(right) brightness is down a bit more but it doesn't matter since I tried to increase and decrease the brightness on the defective one(left) and it made no difference.

Advice on purchasing the Nexus 7

Hi guys,
I plan to purchase this week a Nexus 7 16GB. Based on the reads, the device could have 2 issues: screen lifting and dead pixels. Can you please let me know if the screen lifting was visible when you actually opened the box or it started to pop after a while? I plan to go at local shop and open the case in front of the salesman, to check for those issues.
If you have any other tips I should check for, please let me know (i.e look for a specific build number etc.). Thanks.

That's a little unnecessary in my opinion. Yeah some people had that problem but it was a small percentage and opening it on front of them isn't going to change anything other than the fact that you can return it faster if something IS wrong with it. But I'm guaranteeing there won't be anything wrong with it

Ya... the idea is to save time and exchange it right away, in case I'm "lucky" to get one device that might have issues.
I was nervous too. I bought one today and it turned out perfect. I believe you would be able to see the lifting almost immediately .

I didn't notice the separation in my first unit for a week. I think it got worse over time, but can't be sure.
My second and third units were more subtle, but because I knew what to look for I was able to spot it straight away. I think that if you get one that's flush out of the box you should be alright.
Go in with some idea about how much lift you're willing to tolerate. If it is only lifted a hair, turn it on and press firmly on the left side of the display to see if there's any distortion. Listen for any sticking or clicking sounds. I'm not convinced that the most insignificant amount of lift will inevitably lead to problems down the road, and in hindsight my second unit was good enough to keep. The third was lifted enough to ripple when pressed in the raised area.
The most effective way to test for screen lift is to hold the device with the right side facing you. Look across the display and use the left bezel as a silver horizon line. If the black display is higher than that line at any point, you'll be able to see it.
Here is an example of a perfectly flush display, looking across the device from the right side.

I did more research, might help others on checking the tablet. So far, the main issues that will bother me are:
1) Screen lifting, follow pxlitup's tip or run your finger across the edge where it meets the silver bezel.
2) Blur or trailing, while viewing the Applications screen see if the icons lag or leave a trail behind when you flip through.
3) Color gamut, mainly Green or Yellow tint due to low quality Hydis IPS LCD displays.
4) Bad solder joint, set the brightness to the lowest to second lowest level, open Google Maps and scroll around to see if the display fluctuates or flickers.
I think I'm going to wait for the new Sharp IPS LCD display, they plan to use it into next batches. If anyone has any inside related to the Sharp screens, please share it with us. Thank you.

Who are you to guarantee that? I've gotten five defective Nexus 7s in a row...so far... It's not that small of a percentage dude. You were just lucky to get a good one haha.

Yellow screen ?

Hi, i have one question for n4 owners.
When you look at your phone like this :
Is the screen look a little bit yellow ?
I hope is not a problem, juste ips technology :fingers-crossed:
410 err on the photo but it's probably uncured glue
if so, it'll fix itself unless you constantly overheat your phone (benchmarks and games)
>90% of the time it'll fix itself in a week or two,
it happens with the first batch or two of every phone launch because they didn't have enough time from screen production to sale for all of the units to fully cure.
When I look at it in line of the bottom left corner the screen looks a bit yellow. Every other corner is fine. Its not a problem it will work itself out in a few days.
I don't know if it's a glue problem.
It's look like screen problem :/ but i want to know if others users have same thing.

Yes bottom left and upper right you too ?
I am having the same issue, but i do not need to look from that angle. I see the yellow tone in the options menu just looking directly in front of the phone during normal use. Mainly in the left bottom corner but most of the bottom part I would say.
I'm assuming this is the nature of the screen technology. Mine does this looking at it from the bottom left or top right corner.
Y es i have this problem, and the colors where off, i think the gamma value is high. I hope an update because all have the yellowish screen, i dont think is glue for all at the bottom on the screen.
Mine is like that too

could you upload a bigger pic, or someone else? my htc one s looked super cold when viewing from the sides lol. that's do to amoled though.
Mine is like that too same angle, every other angle is perfect. i think its on all of them.
I didnt have this issue and i ran couple benchmarks. I did heat up slightly and the scores sucked

I have the yellow tint too if I hold the phone diagonal en look at the surface.
Bleu tint web you look opposite no?
Someone know where contact Google ?
Mine is yellow tinted regardless of angle. I'm hoping this is incurred glue, obviously.
I compared against my Atrix last night & it's very obvious.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
If I was to buy the phone in a couple of days would the yellow tint issue be solved as the phone would have been unused stock for a good week allowing enough time for glue to settle?
I'm having problems with my screen as well. Black levels are off and everything has a yellowish grey tint. I have an Optimus G next to it on the left so you can compare, as both of these phones use the same panel. Both phones are on max brightness.

Problem with ook hd+ screens?

I went to go look at nook hd+ this last weekend and i notice that on all the demo units, the lcd light was dimmer running down the right side of the screen @ max brightness.

Do they all do this?
XDA was having trouble yesterday, do ended up double posting. Ignore this one.
No, Those must be old units. Early on users were complaining about that, but got them replaced under warranty. If you buy one, be sure to have them turn it on to check it.
Is the dark strip on the right side that pronounced? I thought I noticed a slight dimming on the right side of my unit but attributed it to the ips technology. Any way to identify for certain?
My newly-purchased Nook has the dark area at the right edge. It's probably not bad enough for me to ship it back for an exchange, but it's noticeable.

I too see something similar with my recently purchased Nook HD+, but noway near as wide as the image in the first post, probably just a cm - are the rest of the recent post seeing something as wide as the first post?
I 'm having the same problem but it's much less pronounced - it's barely noticeable in most cases. Not worth messing with replacements.
I checked mine and it doesn't have any. Mine is shipped directly from B&N though. It might have been made more recently than those in retail stores.
I have a Nook HD+/HDplus which shipped with BN 2.0.3 Stock ROM, and that does not have any of these issues. It is an earlier build though.
Perhaps this fault occurs with early devices, and those which are being manufactured now? I'd simply go for a warranty. I know it's a hassle, but it's better to do it now, whilst you still have the warranty option available. You never know, it could get worse and eventually affect the whole screen. To mix matters up more, this could occur when you're outside your warranty.
I'd do a backup of your current setup, whichever way you prefer, be it CWM backup/TitaniumBackup (as long as you get everything backed up); then get a warranty replacement. After that, you should have no worries; and can be comfortable that there will be no further hardware issues with the screen.
All the best guys/girls!
I went to a B&N store today and both display models showed darkening at the right edge, so I'm not going to replace mine--there's no reason to believe a replacement would be better.
For people who don't seem to have the issue, what is your screen brightness setting? The dimming at the right edge is more noticeable when it's under 50%.

every hd+ i've looked at has the uneven lighting. i'd suspect that all have it since it looks like the light source is only on one side, unless newer ones have lighting on multiple edges like most larger tablets.
i'm usually using mine from 0-15% and don't notice it as bad when i go brighter except when on light colored backgrounds.

Yeah.. pink green tint is still here

After having gone through s6s s6 edges edges + and now my s7 edge and we are talking about a lot of devices I am not surprised to find pink green discolorations at part of my screen anymore.
All of them had it save for one. One device out of 20+. I will probably keep this because everything else seems fine but I can't believe we are still plagued by tints. Mine is an invariable pink and green on whites and greys.

They do change on an angle but face first there are a few pink spots and a few green spots.it is not a rainbow on angle effect.
I noticed one edge is a bit pinkish than other. I had issues like this with LG and moto it's most likely a qhd display issue as I only had the issue on them types, it don't bother me that much but no phone will be perfect as long it's not standing out alot

Bottom, more pronounced at bottom right corner. No biggy but t since none else suffers from this I will ask for a replacement
I'm well aware of the issue ( I went through 7 Galaxy S6s last year and never found a perfect one), but my S7 edge is perfect, or at least close enough to perfect that I can't see any tints without going looking for them with a microscope, which I won't do.
neither does mine
I went through 3 s6s on this issue. My s7e does not have it. Pretty uniform. Was the first thing I checked.
I swear I am not going through a microscope. There is a big pink blotch on my phones bottom.
Also the phone arrived dead on battery. Wondering if that is the only one with that? Ordered straight from Samsung.
Either mine doesn't have it, or its so low for me to notice
I'm sure there will still be a few unlucky ones who have it this year, but by and large it seems Samsung has really improved the uniformity of their displays this year. Finally. Of course next year they will probably up the resolution to 4k and reintroduce the tint issues.

as far as i can say its a "luck of the draw" if your screen is perfect or not. chances are high you get no "center cut" panel, so you will have non-uniform screens...
