I am holding off getting the turbo in hopes of a Dev Edition of the phone.
Unless bootloader unlocking is under way.
This is being typed from my locked down Droid Maxx. Needs more WiFi tether!

Yeah, I won't buy it unless I can unlock it via Sunshine or some other method.
I too will wait a bit and see how things go hopefully there are dev editions(64gb too!). Gotta plan for the future!! (Lollipop breaking previous rooting methods [><] )
Has there ever been a dev edition droid phone? You might be waiting a looooong time.

Interesting, looking at the release of the Droid Maxx dev edition it was almost 60 days after the normal phone release.

Actually it was about 30 days.
Maxx Launch : 8/20/13
Maxx Dev : 9/18/13
But it was a surprise when it hit the website.
As much as I want this phone I can't go back to being locked. So for me I will wait I don't have an upgrade until June anyway. If they make a Dev edition. I will get it and then just sell my upgrade in June. If not I may just hold out till the next round of phones comes out and see what is available. By then we should see the full 64bit phones coming out.

Waiting is the best option, if you are on Verizon for the dev edition, if you are from another carrier, for the internation version annoucement.
I'll wait for a few weeks to see if Dev edition surfaces up.

My bad, read the wikipedia page wrong when they said "first released 7/23/13". I guess that was the announcement.
Yes I am definitely waiting. It makes sense to me that one will come out for this as VZW won't do one for the Moto X this time around. In my little brain, I'm reasoning that is because they are planning a DE for the turbo instead. Hope I'm right. I can't go back to locked and hoping for root and write ability on every update.
If not, I'm biting the bullet and going with the Nexus even though it's huge!
Sent from my Dev Edition Moto X
As long as I can root an international version is fine. Wont touch a phone without root, uh uh, no way, not going to happen. Ever. Or at least until every last phone on the planet is hopelessly locked. But then I think thats just common sense...
A dev edition would be an instant buy from me. No questions asked.
VZW should have a very simple two-step financial plan:
- Step one - release a developer edition of the Turbo
- Step two - prepare to catch the large bag of money I throw in their direction
I've been rooting all my phones, just bought the 64gb turbo. I see no need to root seriously this phone is ridiculous

I agree to a point as far as custom Roms go there is no need. However there are other things that require root. Like WiFi tether cast screen for chrome cast unless this phone has it built in like the nexus does if not then you need an app that requires root.

god... I needed an LTE tablet... but this was the wrong one.
Verizon and Samsung... the 2 worst companies when wanting a software update for your device.
Anyone even gotten a straight answer from Samsung or Verizon that our SCH-I905 would be included in the July/August time frame for an ICS upgrade?
If I would have only bought the Xoom like I originally wanted.
Meh . . what can we do?
Paying termination fees to jump to Xoom now would just be a waste of money considering the fact that hardware wise it's not much of an upgrade if any.
The sad thing is there aren't any better android tablets on the horizon for release on any carrier networks with LTE built in. The latest iPad is going to have a lock on that market for the next year it seems, which is a shame.

It's not them, it's the carriers too.
Not sure if you caught Nilay Patel's editorial on the Verge a few weeks back but it certainly helped shed additional light on things we all already suspected for a long time.

Manufacturers just don't want to have to deal with the carriers for these things if they're not going to sell well. At this point I'm starting to consider myself lucky to even have a 10-inch android tablet with LTE built in.

well the biggest thing is the manufacturers need to modularize their devices, and have the carriers sell the modem portion. this would make 100% sense...
The SCH-i905 is going to be updated, (http://www.samsung.com/us/support/SupportOwnersFAQPopup.do?faq_id=FAQ00046726&fm_seq=49755) just not sure when. The HC 3.2 update took about 4 months longer for Verizon to roll out the update.
The support is minimal, but to be honest I still love this tab. Even with HC 3.2. I do a lot of travel, and it is so great to be able to grab e-mails, access dropbox, search for restaurants and check the maps, and access websites when in the middle of nowhere. There may come a time when the country is blanketed in wifi access points, but until then the LTE tab is great.
Hopefully ICS makes it even better, but I really don't have any issues with HC 3.2 at the moment.

The biggest issues I have are that..
a) VZW lied to me and told me their online documentation was wrong and the tab would ship to me with ICS..
b) My company has a few custom written apk's that only work on ICS apparently...
c) I hate the fact that they have taken so long to release the base update, but then we have to wait for verizon to get off their lazy ass and push it.
I will never buy another verizon product for myself. I am going to have to go to one of the ****ty GSM providers just to ensure I can get support like I need it from now on.

BTW- Just get a portable hotspot and a wifi tab if you absolutely must have a GT10 with hacked firmware. Honestly, I don't understand why anyone would pay for internet for just a single device anyways; not to mention that the 3g/4g variants of most tablets are way less common than wifi-only versions (so they get a lot less development).
Exactly! You'd be most likely winner if you'd upgrade your data plan on your phone and use it as a WiFi HotSpot

What you're going to want to keep an eye on is the builds that pershoot is posting up on http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/ . You'll want the p4vzw variants. All the instructions should be there to read.
CM9 is ICS based, CM10 is JB based.
Just be sure you're on the right CWM version and you make adequate backups before you flash.

Will the limitation on most G4 models (unrootable, locked) forever burden the independent development scene?
I wanna buy the rootable international version but I'm afraid that the limitations on other models would mean less development (less LG4 custom roms/kernel/etc to choose from).
Is this just a minor issue until someone finds a method to unlock all phones? It's literally the only reason I didn't buy it yesterday.
Patience. Root will come. Any dev who wants a $2000+ payday will figure it out soon enough, according to 1 sizeable bounty on XDA...
The phone is great without root anyway...I too desperately miss some features on the unrootable dual SIM G4, but no way near enough to stop me getting it now before root. I'd be posting this in the root thread/s, there's plenty of them...

That was a bit silly... all dev XDA phones (G4) are rooted. They need to develop a safe and efficient alternative for end users without the potential for bricking which is why it's not released yet, so technically "we have root", but it's just not released/widespread yet. Check the other G4 boards - one of the main contributors, Autoprime, confirms my comments above. But... if you can't wait, you can't wait...

Do't worry guys, for Root is on its way. It might take a little bit of time, but it is better to wait and get a safe root method rather than end up with a bricked device.
Just remember, our Devs are people too, they have real life issues, goals, and plans, So it IS NOT like they can just sit at their computer 24/7 until they get everything wrapped up in a nice little package for you.
I know this might be a bit to early of a question but, the first Droid turbo is over a year old now, and there are no practical root methods for it, or any custom roms, is the Droid turbo 2 to suffer the same fate or worse end up like the Droid xyboard ? will there be any real android development on it,or should i just look into getting another phone ?

They don't discuss current projects.
I'm hoping this is a stepping stone to the turbo 2. If they do get root I'll be going out to buy the Turbo 2 that day.
If Verizon LTE is NOT must for you, consider to get Moto X Force. The same phone, bl unlockable, rooted already...

By the way, same NO reading comprehension issue on your part for the other guy you blasted, @bigv5150. He was also responding to the statement the FIRST Droid Turbo was still locked. He said he just unlocked his wife's Droid Turbo.
As for the differences between the two phones -- Droid Turbo (Quark) and Droid Turbo 2 (Kinzie) --- what would you like to know? I could educate you. Believe me, I know more these two Motorola phones than most.
But thanks for the laugh of the day! Ha. Next time try actually reading before responding.

I even QUOTED HIS POST and bolded the important part in my reply. Here it is again, even bolder and larger -- since you are the one with reading comprehension issues.

Thanks chazz this joker obviously has the reading comprehension issue. I love when some tool wants to put someone on blast and gets served like the chump he is.

Have a bit of reading comprehension issues? What part of 'droid turbo *2*' did you miss...? To the best understanding of most, there are no solutions for the Turbo 2 yet- which is not the same beast as the Turbo except for the name...

Wow so feisty in here. Lol I'm definitely interested in root fit the turbo 2 but it's a great phone without it

Yeah, this is probably the first time since I'm using Android (started with first HTC Nexus/Desire) that I didn't need root. Sure, to be future proof unlockable bl is needed and probably over time (maybe with MM) to edit some system files.
Dude I have the charcoal gray dt2 32gb with a 128gb card. Love it plus I can move apps to sd without root. This phone flies has fantastic battery life (which I'm sure root would only improve) so I almost don't see a need for root. But still interested...
Root is essential. I miss my ad blocker.
If root is 'essential' , then you should never buy a phone that doesn't already have root... Which the D2 does not.

It is funny but he's right. When we install desktop OS, we can have account with root/admin rights. Should be the same for our phones but I understand why is different. For average Joe is better.
Okay, so call me crazy/stupid but what is the easiest way to root my Moto Z Force Droid Edition?

Root is automatically activated when the phone has been in free fall for more than 10 seconds. Find a tall building and throw your phone off of it.
Seriously, have a look around before you post questions like this.

With it being a Verizon Droid brand, there's a good chance the answer is never. Probably not a lot of developers with the phone and Big Red is pretty serious about locking it down, hence the answers.

Actually I have looked. I have seen several sources that claim rooting this latest VZW Droid phone is trivially easy. They even post instructions on how to do it.
Now, I wasn't at first going to believe those sources, because they have some odd errors, like 1/2 way thru their instructions they start to refer to the Mot Z Force Droid as being a Samsung phone.
However, based on your knowledgeable answer, I will take your vouching that these sources are being 100% reliable.

Quite the opposite. If there isn't a root method on this forum, then there isn't one that works.

I've seen several sources claiming root for NON-VZW Moto Z phones (i.e.: Bootloader unlocked), I've seen none valid for VZW Droid (i.e.: Locked down like fort Knox)... Guess we have different search engines.
Wrote to Moto, no intention of unlocking it either. So unless someone finds an exploit/backdoor/Universal unlock key, you're SOL.
The current issue is that taking an update will destroy your chances of getting root. Take 0 updates until an exploit is found that will allow us root. Dirtycow/quadrooter are the only linux exploits that we might be able to get to work. Its just a matter of who. I know Jcase (https://twitter.com/jcase?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor) has posted in a couple places about compiling dirtycow and even has an "Android Hacking" basics kinda PDF floating around. He has done a lot in the community (SunShine) he doesn't deserve the hate being thrown at him for not developing a root method for this one device.

Oh. Well now I regret taking all those updates. I still doubt we'll get root on this device tho. I can only hope. It seems XDA forums has gone quiet and essentially given up on trying to root this phone, but I hope I'm wrong about that.

pretty much true
I wish that some developer would even try working on this. I myself have thought of many things and will probably create a separate post for root soon since I have a couple ideas which I feel MIGHT MAYBE work, but I need the XDA community to pitch in and help me think of a method. Like I said, I have a rough idea but it needs refining, which I can hopefully get from the community.
Moto z force jailbreak
So what you guys are saying it's inpossable to jail brake our phone? So I should just go out and get a new phone if I want to jail break it?
I was aware the when I bought my phone used that the Droid version probably wouldn't see root anytime soon but I bought it anyway because I did research online and felt the phone had good enough specs and the UI looked good and had cool features so I personally don't even need or miss having root on this phone. My reasons for rooting phones has ALWAYS been for performance tweaks with occasional UI adjustments.
My last phone was an Acend XT (H611) which before having the bootloader unlocked and flashing a debloated and tweaked stock rom it was an utter POS. I paid $50 for that Ascent XT and I liked it but performance and UI wise it doesn't even compare to the Moto Z Force. So I personally don't even miss having root.

Yeah need bootloader unlocked and Verizon won't let Lenovo Unlock our Droid version.
I am more concerned about when we will get another update for Oreo because it has problems sometimes.... I have to restart my phone once a week because the fingerprint scanner or chop for flashlight stop working or some other random bug pops up.
Damn Verizon, thets how they killed the turbo 2
Anyone have root for droid turbo 2 verizon 7.0 yet. I'm looking for way because I want to get root to do a lot of stuff I need for my phone.

The Droid Turbo 2 is still bootloader locked, until someone cracks that, it's not gonna be rooted.

There's a few threads where people were trying to raise a bounty for it, not sure if it's being actively worked due to the lack of dev attention for this model.

Apparently the Sunshine team that finally cracked the Droid Turbo has had no luck finding an exploit on this phone. It's gonna come down to giving one to someone who can crack it and pay them if they want money... If you really need root, at this point it would be easier to buy an X-Force, you can get the unlock code from Motorola. Verizon is not letting them hand out codes for the Droid Turbo 2.
There's a few root threads to read over, no one has gotten close to cracking the bootloader yet, until that happens, perm root is not achievable on this phone.
Has anyone gone for the bounty yet cuz I have been waiting for awhile now, I'm considering getting an iPhone or something

Good luck rooting that iPhone.
There's plenty of phones better than iPhone, and which can be rooted. You just bought the wrong phone. You should stay away from any Verizon phones in general, if rooting is important to you. Or at least make sure there's an exploit (like with Droid Turbo) before buying.
Why is there an option for "unlocking bootloader" in developer's options for Droid Turbo 2?
Never understood why Verizon will leave this option on the phone but can't unlock it?

It's an option in all Lollipoo and newer Android OS. Verizon makes sure it doesn't actually do anything.

Sorry it was a force not maxx. II ask because I recently helped my buddy get past his. if you are following you tube videos and you are stuck at copying and sharing a text to Google maps so you can get to the internet I would suggest that you copy and share a picture instead out of your file manager. I was able to get net and then ask Google for chrome and viola
