There wasn't even enough stock to last 60 seconds without any marketing or hoopla. Imagine the clusterf*** this would have been with any pre-launch festivities. As a potential purchaser, I'm extremely disappointed with Google & Motorola over this launch.

Every year, the same thing. This is a Nexus folks...this happens EVERY YEAR. I don't understand the disappointment when it has been happening EVERY YEAR. Reliable as a clock.
I don't really think it was sold out in less than 60 seconds. I placed my order around 10:40 PST which seemed to be at least 25 minutes after people are saying they were taking pre-orders. I just had to refresh the page for a couple minutes until one was available. If I had to guess, I'd say there is some manual process of adding the phones to the system that makes it feel like they are out of stock. Though, in either case, it is a poor user experience...

I think 32GB lasted a bit longer but I refreshed the 64GB models literally every 10 seconds and didn't get an option to order even once.
They screwed up their production forecast again. LOL

As I have succeeded, since the N1. Persistence does pay off, but it's very tempting to avoid XDA during this time, due to all the crying that comes along with it. Tantrums solve nothing, 'it is what it is'. UPS Logistics will pull their usual stunts and everyone will be glued to their screens, upset someone who ordered two days AFTER them are getting their phones...it goes on and on and on...
If I wasnt on these forums I would have no idea there was a problem. I randomly hit refresh and it was available so I grabbed one. Turns out I was one of the lucky few.

I was refreshing at the time. I clicked once, and it was "coming soon." Immediate 2nd refresh was "Out of Stock". Less than 1 second between refreshes. I'm thinking there's something wrong with the site. That makes more sense to me than selling out in less than a second.

Yeah it's nuts! I mean I know this is a pre-order so there is obviously going to be a somewhat limited availability but Google should know how their Nexus customers are (we are usually in the know) and are more likely to pre-order if we have the chance than to regularly order when its on full launch.
If the mobile carriers wanted more stock for themselves, then make sure Moto gets to pump out more phones so that all supply sources can be happy!

Just so I am clear, WTF does this have to do with Google exactly??? The article you supplied references Motorola, and has little to nothing to do with Google.

There is no way motorola keeps producing the xoom much longer. It is not a very good tablet, and with tablets like the galaxy tab coming out for half the price, no one will buy it. Also apple just plain embarrassed motorola by including better hardware in a cheaper package in the ipad2. Also, the tegra 2 is a year old chip and is embarrassingly slow compared to the competition. And its not capable of playing high profile h.264, which the original ipad can do.

I am upset. I have been waiting about 9 months now for an Android tablet to be worthy of buying, and Motorola completely messed up what was supposed to be the first worthy Android tablet.
I doubt such an obscure site could do any serious damage to Google's reputation.
I think the only thing that was poorly executed was the delay in a wifi model.
32 gigs is just about right on the money for storage this day in age. I wouldn't have been satisfied with a 16 gig, as soon as I hit that mark, I would be pissed - but I am reasonable enough to say that if I fill up 32 gigs I probably need to clean house.
I think it feels great in the hand, where the iPad feels slick/greasy and easier to drop. We are still waiting on a ton of Tegra optimization to pick stuff up, some say the recent update was a huge performance boost (25% higher quadrants).
Honestly, where Android is right now in the tablet market - I don't think the things you bear issue with will matter in the next year or so.
I do kind of have an issue with the charger...it feels a little on the weak side, and doesn't seem to have the best build quality...but I can deal since everything else seems to be right up my ally.

Here are my issues:
*Priced WAY too high.
*Tegra 2 INCAPABLE at a hardware level of playing videos that our Epic's can crank out.
*Pretty mediocre screen compared to the iPad, iPad2, Nook Color, Galaxy Tab 7"
*Terrible placement of speakers (sound projected away from you)
*Terrible placement of power button
*Waste of money to include an 8mp camera
*Tegra 2 GPU not even in same league as PowerVr SGX543mp2
First of all BGR got the news from Digitimes...second of all as stated its more motorola then google..and third of all...you can't just sue the press like that...caue there is a thing called "Freedom of press"..

Maybe it's because there are a half billion or so android devices worldwide, and if they all got the maps update at the same time and tried to download it all together, servers somewhere would crash. Just sayin'...
I know, they wouldn't do it all at once, but this is probably a good reason to roll it out over a few days. Also, they can fix some bugs that surface after that first day, or change something that everyone freaks out about. I believe they did that with the maps update.

Half a billion devices only? Google serves over 4 billion YouTube videos per day! Sorry, I'm not buying any bandwidth excuses. And how many of those half a billion devices are in China and don't even have the play store? And obviously they don't care that much about fixing things that bother people before they are widely distributed because Hangouts hadn't been touched 4 months after release. Anyway, they are supposed to test before release, I never signed up to be a beta tester.

Google knows how to load balance a server, so I doubt that's the issue. The second point is far more on point.

So in your mind, YouTube's servers = the Nexus update servers? Right. No. The fileservers Google's got open for Nexus devices have significantly less resources to deal with (if you'd like to test, try downloading a factory image-- it's not slow by any means, but you can pull data faster from YouTube, which is designed to handle that kind of load).
But bandwidth/service issues are unlikely to be the problem so much as bug fixes. Staged rollouts of a major update are the best way of catching early problems before they become widespread. You really don't seem to comprehend what QA testing is like for software. You can cover a lot of bases, but there is no practical way right now to test every device configuration in existence. Take the Galaxy Nexus: there are handsets out there running 4.0.x, 4.1.x, and 4.2.x, on every major carrier (sorry Verizon users) and in the hands of all sorts of users. That's one phone, and a lot of point releases (and a lot of different potential combinations of software and hardware).
If you don't want to be a beta tester or on the bleeding edge of a public release, then don't gripe about the staged rollouts. Products that don't have the luxury of this technique (say, new games, or Apple's newest Macbook Airs) get slammed with backlash because they need to deploy globally. It didn't take long in the second example for Apple to realize they'd screwed up the Wi-Fi chipset, but they couldn't exactly fix that issue quietly when the entire first batch might have been affected.

You do realize that there are some "normal" end-users who own Nexus devices, right? It's quite possible for someone to choose a Nexus handset because they like the look alone. You should be first in line to get an update if you own a Nexus device, but a consumer release should never be a beta test*.
*unless you're Google, in which case "perpetual beta" happens often. However, considering that Nexus devices are now being marketed as consumer devices, I find this position to be disingenuous at best.
Update came to me today. Haven't used it yet though.

Updated Maps Version 7.0.2 can be found here: http://db.tt/Mtp106lp
So I got my phone today and low and behold I have some serious (at least to me) blemishes and scratches on the back. Some pics below. I know they may not seem too bad but come on, this is a brand new phone, and unexceptable if you ask me. So I actually go to my nearby ATT store to see if they have stock already so they can swap it out and they don't have any yet. You could see it in the eyes of the workers that they hadn't seen one yet. Borderline oogling over it.
Anyways, they say call ATT and they'll send me another. I call and low and behold they CAN send me a replacement (not overnight mind you, I'd have to pay for that), but as I had to remind them, there is a backorder for it so they couldn't tell me when I'd get it. All this time I wouldn't be able to activate the phone. I say screw it, I'll keep it but you gotta give me something here. All they can do open a customer credit report and see if it goes through. Suffice it to say.....I'm pissed.

Thats how mine is from GPlay! Not as bad as yours but the same type of marks.... Seems like it was slid around and there was a bunch of dust/debris in the box on the phone.. I called them up right after I saw and they were gonna set me up with a new replacement but there is a problem with there system with that apparently...:roll eyes: So I have to wait for them to fix that then get in contact with me to set up the replacement... Im using this one in a case in the mean time but it definitely shouldn't fly to get one that looks this way!
Looks like someone was skate boarding on it before shipping. Lol I would return it. There is no fu#king way I pay over $700 for a screwed up phone.

I think it has some room to move because there doesn't seem to be anything keeping it in place or anything protective it has to sit on. Its just sitting on indent of the phone with the documentation. I think it happened during shipping possibly especially if it was man handled it could bounce around and scuff up but idk? i don't see how sliding on cardboard could cause marks like that.
Im also still waiting on Gplay to reply and fix there system to get me a new replacement...
Did you have any issues getting AT&T to initiate the return? This is ridiculous, mine has this too.

AT&T wouldn't have done it themselves, just semantically speaking.
They would have made a deal with the OEM (Motorola) to make the modifications on their behalf before packaging.
Not defending AT&T or anything, of course.

Thank you.
Agreed. It seems to work out well and people can do most anything here (as you know)... well, that which doesn't break any XDA rules:laugh:

Sent in my 64gb Motorola purchased Nexus 6 due to the half screen freezing issue. I happily got my replacement at 9am this morning. I turn the bad boy on and to my amazement they sent me a 32gb. On the phone with the right now. I'm sure they'll make it right, just a bit of an annoyance in the mean time! Haha. First world problems. /R

hiya mate moved your post here, no need to start another.
btw rant is one of the topics:good:
Well, I guess I'll start it off with a little speculation. First, I don't generally like to speculate but here goes.
What do you think 5.1.1 might bring to our shamu when it finally drops? I think, and hope it will finally put an end to all the variants we currently have in 5.1, i.e. D, E, H, M and I. It would certainly curtail a lot of questions users are posting here. But who knows, Google could start the whole saga over again. Does anyone think that things are changing with the Nexus line catering to the different carriers now as opposed to the way things were in the past?
Also, this update may address the memory leak plaguing some devices. Have any of you seen or experienced this leak? I have not. Are there any other bugs you experience that you hope are addressed?
Gotta love the lounge but where's the waitress with my drink?

I know that there are different versions of "Google play services" and that there is a potential problem with one of the versions causing battery drain. Can someone point me in the direction of which version I should be on?

Awesome... That is the one that I am on! Thank you!
I absolutely LOVE this phone and its huge screen, but the battery is a complete disappointment. It can't give me a complete day of use... I could use my old OnePlus One for 2 days with 7 hours of screen on time, but my Nexus 6 can't arrive at night before being charged with just 3-4 hours of screen on time.
P.s.: now I'm on stock + Lean Kernel, but I've also tried different ROM + kernel combinations...

What other have you tried?
Which rom/kernel combo gives you the best battery life?

I'm 100% stock and I easily get 5 to 6 hours SOT every day. Plus, with turbo charging, if I get too low, 15 to 20 minutes on charge and I'm good for whatever time I need.
Everybody uses their phone differently though. Perhaps you should look into a wakelock detector and see what it is, specifically, that's raping your battery.

ROMs: stock, Chroma, Euphoria, OptiPop... and others, maybe.
Kernels: stock, Code_Blue, franco, Lean.
A great phone with a disappointing battery life... shame on you Google/Motorola! :crying:
I am enjoying the phone, too. My initial hesitations were the size, and the display not being as bright as others (especially since I use it in my car a lot for GPS navigation). Neither has been much of an issue. The size and one handed use issue is so overblown compared to the Note 4 and iPhone 6 Plus.......
One little issue --- the phone has completely frozen up on me two or three times in the month or so that I have had it. Anyone else experience this? Is it the memory leak?
Listening to Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff". Reminds me of touching the back of the Nexus6 while charging!
So earlier today I wanted to see what kind of goodies I might be able to cash my points in for.
To my surprise, everything seemed a bit high. I already spent 2,000 for a $50 Samsung.com coupon where now it's 10,000!
But now it seems as though everything has at least doubled!
Even on http://www.samsung.com/us/samsung-pay/rewards/ for example the Gear VR is only 6,000 points but for me it's 12,000.
Or the Gear Fit2 is costing me 16,000 where they advertise it for only 8,000 on their page.
Does't seem very fair.
Can someone compare mine with theirs just to make sure that they aren't charging me more than they should?

Even though I do not use Samsung Pay, here is my redeem page for comparison. No differences, but it does seem peculiar how the rewards online are different than the ones in the app

Huh.
Okay. So they aren't picking on me specifically then. LOL! That's good to know.
I'm already at over 40 purchases this month so I figured they increased everything to make up for it.
Still... they shouldn't be increasing the value of their rewards by so much.

Can confirm. All of mine doubled too. It was supposed to be half off until 2/28/2017 but I guess they ended the promo early. It's not fair that they tricked us into using it as much as possible. I've already racked up 4000 ish points and I was aiming for a gear fit.

Guess I'll be saving my points until they drop them back down again.
I'll probably have close to 30,000 by the end of the year at least.

That would be a wise move. I may save them for gear S3 or whatever when it is on promo again. Current promos aren't worth the points.

Exactly.
I'll save up to perhaps ~30,000 points and wait until they drop the points down to something reasonable. Then cash it all in at once.
Meanwhile, I'm taking advantage of the 2x points on Sundays.
Hint: Vending machines are our friends.
50 cent candy bar every five minutes for fifteen minutes as a Platinum is 240 points... and three candy bars. LOL!

Can confirm here also. Redeeming points are back up to full price now. Considering that they have 10k points for $50 rewards card, I would say it's almost 0.5% cash back?
I've started to drink diet soda a few sips here and there every day for $1.25 a bottle. I wish I have a chewing gum vending machine somewhere at work. I just hit platinum in Jan and planning to use it as much as I can.

Well at least we get 2x the points on Sundays... until they take that away. But I'm not using mine until they drop again. Maybe by that time I can get a free Gear S4 or whatever. LOL!

Agreed. Or I would love to see some sort of gift balance towards the purchase or a note 8. But I'm okay with a smartwatch! I don't like the Gear Fit2 they have right now on the store, but the next gen one would be interesting. I'm starting to shop multiple times for groceries and stuff and limiting all of them to Sundays. It would be awesome if the gas station pumps credit card readers using swiping over dipping card.
