BGR- Bash Google's Reputation - Epic 4G General

its amazing to see how this website advertise lies about android smartphones and tablets time after time, than "corrects it", after the damage is done just because they are apple fans.
I HOPE THAT GOOGLE WILL DROP A MAJOR LAWSUIT ON THEIR HEAD, SO THE LESSON WILL BE LEARNED.

Just so I am clear, WTF does this have to do with Google exactly??? The article you supplied references Motorola, and has little to nothing to do with Google.

I'm guessing because Xoom is a Google experience device? Maybe? Didn't read the article but I just ordered my wifi only Xoom...

There is no way motorola keeps producing the xoom much longer. It is not a very good tablet, and with tablets like the galaxy tab coming out for half the price, no one will buy it. Also apple just plain embarrassed motorola by including better hardware in a cheaper package in the ipad2. Also, the tegra 2 is a year old chip and is embarrassingly slow compared to the competition. And its not capable of playing high profile h.264, which the original ipad can do.

There is an iPad selling for $499. Most people buy that version. There is only one choice with the Xoom, and its HUNDREDS of dollars more, with a poorer quality display, terrible speaker/power button placement and an SoC that is multiple times less capable.

I am upset. I have been waiting about 9 months now for an Android tablet to be worthy of buying, and Motorola completely messed up what was supposed to be the first worthy Android tablet.

I doubt such an obscure site could do any serious damage to Google's reputation.

I think the only thing that was poorly executed was the delay in a wifi model.
32 gigs is just about right on the money for storage this day in age. I wouldn't have been satisfied with a 16 gig, as soon as I hit that mark, I would be pissed - but I am reasonable enough to say that if I fill up 32 gigs I probably need to clean house.
I think it feels great in the hand, where the iPad feels slick/greasy and easier to drop. We are still waiting on a ton of Tegra optimization to pick stuff up, some say the recent update was a huge performance boost (25% higher quadrants).
Honestly, where Android is right now in the tablet market - I don't think the things you bear issue with will matter in the next year or so.
I do kind of have an issue with the charger...it feels a little on the weak side, and doesn't seem to have the best build quality...but I can deal since everything else seems to be right up my ally.

BGR isn't really that obscure...I mean, they aren't engadget or gizmodo (though the same level of fanboyism can be seen there at times) but they aren't a guy in a basement with a blogspot account either.

Here are my issues:
*Priced WAY too high.
*Tegra 2 INCAPABLE at a hardware level of playing videos that our Epic's can crank out.
*Pretty mediocre screen compared to the iPad, iPad2, Nook Color, Galaxy Tab 7"
*Terrible placement of speakers (sound projected away from you)
*Terrible placement of power button
*Waste of money to include an 8mp camera
*Tegra 2 GPU not even in same league as PowerVr SGX543mp2

First of all BGR got the news from Digitimes...second of all as stated its more motorola then google..and third of all...you can't just sue the press like that...caue there is a thing called "Freedom of press"..

Companies bend over backwards for Apple

Frustrating that Case-Mate doesn't have any cases for the Evo yet but they have a whole bunch for the new iPhone 4 and it's not even out yet. (Although some people have it already). Sucks because I have one I bought from Sprint but it doesn't look like it was made properly. The lines are all crooked and looks cheap.
I know that the iPhone will sell like crazy and they just want to make money but they are forgetting about us. Their 4 different options are "coming soon".
Yeah it is frustrating but its all about sales. Even though many of us know how much better the Evo is then the iPhone 4; the iPhone will sell many times more then the Evo will probably will ever be able to. Its just how it works
They don't bend over backwards for Apple, they're catering to a greater market share. They are a company, and a company only exists to make a profit.
If you owned a company that makes an add-on for a widget, would you not make the add-on that would potentially sell the most?

Yeah man the evo is so much better. Better battery life, screen resolution and quality, UI responsiveness, keyboard, dialer app, messaging app.....
OH WAIT.
Its a good idea to wait a month or 2 before buying accessories. The better ones are not always released at the same time as the device. Assuming you are not the type of person who is prone to accidents/drops.

I do understand but if they actually had plenty of case options for the Evo they would make an even bigger profit.
Regardless of which device sells more you would think that by offering options for more devices it would increase website traffic, sales, etc.

Yea and how mad do you think some of the companies were when they found out that the new iPhone was going to have a different shape then the 3G and 3GS?
Like someone said earlier, they are selling to the market that they know will make lots of money. Look at Speck, Ivyskin and ifrogz. About 99% of their products are aimed at Apple/Iphone products. Why?...because they know what sells. Now I am not advocating the iPhone (I had both 3G and 3GS) and while it does have it use...not everyone likes them.
It is simple economics. Research the product...watch what sells the most...and then start rolling out accessories for it

You would think, but that's not the case. You're not taking in to account manufacturing, packaging, and distribution costs.
Trust me, this isn't about whether you hate Apple or Android, or who's a fanboy of who. It's business. Somewhere down the line, a pencil-pusher ran the numbers and decided the return on investment (ROI) wasn't high enough to bother with it, at least until they sat back and saw how Evo sales went initially.

I think that many companies get a placebo effect from Apple, the truth is there are thousands of companies making Apple products, there is more then an over saturation of accessories for the iPhone(s) so it is going out on a limb to say that you may be able to make as much, if not more money by developing a case for a phone like the EVO, or N1...

I understand making iphone accessories because of the huge amount of people that use iphone but i also agree that the market is so saturated with iphone cases and accessories...if they had this case ready for Evo, i bet they would make good money on it because there isn't anything else the same.

People need to prioritize, they critisize it because it does not have a dual core CPU but really what good is that going to do, its a phone. It isnt like any Android app is that CPU intensive.
no HD video, doesnt matter either, HD video on phones still isnt anywhere comparable to a HD video camera. the resolution may be there but the quality isnt.
I for one rather take on time and priority Android updates over anything else.
I do like this phone, and glad i sold my N1 before the market for N1's shot down.

And criticizing something they dont own is the same thing people did with the G2, then people found out it was a really great device. It doesn't help companies or end users when people prematurely "bastardize" a device.

I agree. Hopefully in a few weeks or so we'll see all the naysayers and doomsayers pass.
One day and we already have boot unlock (though that was admittedly pretty simple), custom recovery, root, and an optimized kernel. I only see bright things in this device's future, but that might just be the amazing screen!

Probably not. It is an industry first, but it's also pretty much just a gimmick, like 3D. I would have been much more interested in a dual core phone, or even an Evo with an updated processor.
I can see how it would be good for mulittasking...if it had the power of a dual core processor...but the specs are very underwhelming, and the battery life is going to be horrible.
Its not that bad a phone but sprint did themselves a great disservice by hyping it up so much. People where expecting something huge and instead got a phone.

Yes. Yes you are.
The issue is that it "may" be a good phone once some people get their hands on it and play with it.
But you cannot deny the overwhelming negative response (see their facebook page) as a pretty big sign that it may not be a good phone.
If you look at it from a sales/marketing POV they would much rather have a phone that everyone thinks looks really cool at a press release, but then falls a little short of expectation in the real world. At least they sell some phones, and the high initial praise helps sustain the life of the phone.
Now look at this situation, especially in this economy, 99% of the initial response is bordering "verbal lynch mob", even if it a good phone, how many people will actually give it a chance?
First impressions can kill...........
It's an interesting concept, I'll give them that, but it's made by Kyocera, looks like a brick and not a lot of developers will go out of their way to make use of both screens.

I recall saying something similar would be great. I dropped the thought when tablets came.
EDIT-saw the video. WTF? Now I know why people said brick. I no longer have any interest even in passing.
The biggest issue is that from what i understand, its a basic Android. Phone with a 2nd gen snap dragon running 2 screens. Won't that hurt performance?

. Under the hood there's a 1GHz second-gen Snapdragon running Android 2.2 -- we'll forgive the older software because Kyocera had to do extensive customization to add dual-screen support to seven core apps like the browser, email, and messaging.

Specs are:

Cameras: Rear dual 5 megapixel (like the Optimus)
Has 1080p video playback while 720p for viewing 3D content.

It means that if you use non of your rom space, in essence you have space for up to 5gb of ram, instead of 1. But as you download more and more apps, and the rom size diminishes, so does the 5gbs. It will always have 1gb, but can have up to 5gbs.

June is a long ways off! At least Apple has their stuff ready to go within 2 weeks, not 2 months. ;(

Apple didn't have **** ready to go for the iPad 2. I just ordered mine, it's already on 4-5 week backorder. That's ridiculous.

Valid Point, but I don't think they were expecting 70% first time iPad buyers either.
I'm try to decide between an iPad 2, Xoom, iMac or building myself a Hackintosh...hmmm.

I would get the iMac over the iPad but I'd get a MacBook Pro over the iMac. I just got a MBP, it's my first Mac and it's pretty frickin' amazing. I will never buy a Windows machine again. The Xoom can't hold a candle to the iPad 2 and a hackintosh won't be as nice as owning the real thing.

Owned a MBP since last Summer, and I'm never going back. I sold everything Windows, except for the old desktop that runs my vinyl cutter.
Yeah, you're right. I can get a barely used iPad 1 on craigslist for $300 right now, too...
As far as the hackintosh vs. imac goes...it won't be the same, but it'll be as good as a mac pro and I could buy a cinema display

I just sold my 32 gig wifi iPad on craigslist for $400 That's how I was able to get the iPad 2.
Since you put it that way, I'd say the hackintosh with the cinema display. That thing is gorgeous.

Yeah, there are several 16GB wifi ipad 1s on craigslist, some only a week or two old, going for $300, which isn't bad...since the new ones don't have a whole lot more, as far as features go...
Hmm, yes...since I'd want the 27" imac...I'd rather build a hackintosh and get a cinema display...even though I already have a 27" viewsonic screen that I use with my MBP.

not to stray too far off topic here but you do realize what has happened on the other side of the planet right? Given Apple was already gong to expect a shortage of some extent on them, once the quake happened they got hit even harder. They get some of the memory components from Japan and have been effected by that situation.
Everyone except apple always announce their phone early, the evo was announced more then a month before releaswd and the galaxy s line up too, and June sounds like a winner since the iPhone always cones out at the same time, Sprint been trying to get back at the iPhone since the instinct came out. And the evo was the first one to get some iPhone users, I got my evo on released date and I had an iPhone too (which now I use it as a company phone) , I definetely getting the evo 3D tho, iOS and android os and I got the best of both words in apps and functionality

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z - EISA Award Winner

Here's something to further boost our kiddie egos and bragging rights :victory: - It comes as no surprise to me really that the exquisite Sony XTZ is EISA's pick for the European Tablet of the Year 2013 - 2014. So happy I went with Sony on this one
Hit the link for the short run down: http://www.eisa.eu/award/31/european-tablet-2013-2014.html:cool:
Tell me this doesn't make you that much prouder to be an SXTZ owner :highfive:

Its a good Android tablet. For a time at least, lol.
I do agree that given the weight and size its a marvel of technology considering the performance and quality of construction.
Sony appear to be moving in the right direction, lets hope this trend continues.
Even if it is the winner, i don't see any real developer here, the development section is dead, i mean like dead in dead. Nothing new is happening there. I don't know why.... God dammit developers build some kernels, roms

Have to agree about it being dead around here. There was some activity at first when there a was a prize on offer...but since then, dead
I must admit I knew that if I wanted loads of development I should have bought the Nexus 10. Buying the SXTZ came with the risk of little or no development...and that risk has turned into reality.
On the other hand, the stock ROM is pretty good and at the moment going to a custom ROM means you'll lose more useful features than you gain.
All I really want on top of stock is Nova launcher and PIE/LTA so I can lose all the navigation/notification/status bars. That's why I've gone to PAC.
But I've lost my warranty, GPS, DRM keys, HDMI out, being able to charge with tablet off, and a few other things.
I sometimes wish I'd bought the Nexus 10...but I'm telling myself I've got to kick the ROM-flashing habit.
Oh well, at least I've got my Nexus 4 to keep me occupied

Well, i know Sony products are not so popular among the developers, but than again this one in my opinion is among the best tablets, so it should have been better. Oh well maybe it is due to something like price, or something else.

Don't look now, but TechRadar seems to share the same views as us. They also gave the SXTZ top honors as 2013's tablet: http://www.techradar.com/news/mobile-computing/tablets/10-best-tablet-pcs-in-the-world-today-1079603

I just don't comprehend why Sony products are favored by developers.... Sony offers so very much better support than other OEMs, like Samsung and HTC, and send updates ,such faster than other OEMs as well. It seems like Sony would/should be a developer favorite, the only thing I can think of is that no major Sony flagship smartphones are carried by the major US carriers, AT&T and T-Mobile have carried 1 or 2 but Verizon hasn't had one since the Play, but there should still be more development.
The price tag is another thing hindering development but not much, the other tablets I was looking at before I purchased the XTZ offered much less for the same amount or more, really the price is not too bad when you think about it. The LTE model is overpriced, $900 in the US when I bout my WiFi model, but I would guess the reason for that would be to deter people from buying it off contract. If money is the issue there have still been major amounts of development on phones and tablets with the same, or higher, price tag, I paid less for my XTZ than my Note 2 or any other phone I've bought in the past few years, so there has to be something I am missing.
