HD Voice by default ? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've just activated my HD Voice in service menu but every time I make a call the icon shows up on the screen and I have to press it to activate with every single call, is there any way to have it "pressed" by default ?

Weird. I have HDvoice enabled on my and never noticed that. Can you take a screenshot?

Sorry just tested it now to take a screenshot and noticed this is icon for some extra volume and hd voice icon as I expected before so I am still not sure if my hd voice works but what can I say I think my Note 2 has much better voice quality on most custom roms

On my note 3 its distinctly clear when I am talking in hd voice. Its like the other party is just right beside me. Now on note 4, when I am talking to the same person, I am pretty sure its not on hd voice. I really thought it would be a standard feature in new generation smart phone

Never mind got it.....

If you go into the call log it shows HD when it's working. My girl calls and most times it does but a couple of times it didn't so depends.

Can't see anything in my call log indicating HD voice on any of my calls.
It is enabled, my network does support it, I am in a 4G area, and I've been calling my girlfriend who also has HD Voice enabled on her S5, and is also on the same network in a 4G area.
Just curious as to what it looks like. Can't find anything online which shows it.

Google Voice phone ring delay

I'm using GV as voicemail, and the phone only starts ringing after 5-10s (the caller already hears rings and sometimes even hangs up). Is there a fix for this?
You know there's a delay even when you call normally right?

Same, this is annoying, and my ringtones are now significantly shorter because of it.....
I have my Google voice ring my work Cell as well as my sprint phone, And for some reason my work phone rings a full ring before my Sprint phone rings. Wish there wasn't a lag or way to extend the rings.
Also does anyone know how to shut off that stupid press 1 to accept call.. i hate it, today I pressed 1 And then was told the caller hung up( cause phone rang to many times) And to press 2 to call back..

If I turn that off what happens to the people that call from private unknown or numbers not stored in my phone.

Are you sure? I'm looking at it right now, but to be honest I haven't integrated it with Sprint.
Google.com/voice>sign in>click on your phone number in the top right>click on the calls tab>the very first box is call screening>turn off.
If you turn this off, it will not announce the caller to you and make you press one. However, you won't know if this is someone calling your google voice #, or possibly your work cell # (as is my case).

GV and your desk phone are both land lines so the connection is instant. There is always a delay to cell lines regardless if you use GV. There is no way to get rid of the delay; this is completely normal.
To get rid of the press 1 to accept, go into GV -> Settings -> Calls and turn Call Screening to Off.
The funny thing is that I have a Droid X (Verizon) linked to my GV and it always rings before the Evo. I'm now thinking of switching to Verizon so I don't have such a long delay / lose calls.

Set SCI to 2, ACCOLC to 2 & turn EVRC-B to enabled in Advanced.

The stock settings tell the phones radio to check with the tower every so many seconds. I don't remember what the default is so for sake of the explanation lets say 8 seconds. Your phone just checked the tower and nothing was coming in. Then someone begins calling you. Depending where in the countdown you are at your phone wont check with the tower for another 8 seconds or less. The person calling you will hear the phone ringing even though you have yet to receive an incoming call.
Changing the settings shortens the time between checking with the tower and thus reducing the time your phone will start ringing.

You can not do this with any AOSP or 2.3 sense roms.
Nandroid, then flash to a 2.1 / 2.2 rom, make the changes then nandroid back.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

[Q] The Android OS is missing a very important feature !!!! Help us DEVS ..!

Umm.. am I or does the great android is missing a critical phone feature that was available on Nokia's MonoChrome Phones ??
CALL WAITING NOTIFICATIONS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if I am calling someone and he is already talking to someone else and he has call waiting feature enabled I should get "WAITING" notification like I used to get on nokia phones but the Android does not have this tiny feature
after googling a bit
I found out that samsung galaxy phones have this
so why cant we too?
great devs please help ??
Is there nothing to enable it in settings?
No there isn't
I tried cyanogen and Sense builds

This is to enable call waiting in our line. If I am calling you, and you are talking to someone else, what notification does my screen give? Let me try that, never thought about it until now...

I don't know about you, but my phone (running Nexus-HD2 Gingerbread) just beeps when I've got a call waiting. It is rather quiet, but it's there.
Guys you just don't get it
What I'm talking about is when I'm calling someone..
And that someone has call waiting enabled and is already in another call
In my old nokia n70 I used to get "waiting" notification appearing on my screen during the call process
But in android ...
It just rings normally with no notifications what so ever !!!!!
So I never know whither my contact is already in a call or not
So I keep on ringing and the other parry gets annoyed...
The only time I ever saw an actual notification in android was in some Samsung galaxy (I don't remember which , they all look the same to me )
A toast notification that says "waiting" appeared and disappeared
So please could some awesome developer confirm this and port this very important missing feature to our lovely androids ?

Whenever I call someone that has call waiting enabled and they are on a call I just get a ringing tone, as if their phone is ringing. I've never had any phone do anything different, so I don't know what you're expecting to happen.

Nokia phones have a feature that let's you know if the person you are calling has another call and your call is waiting on that person's phone.
So when you are dialing if you are looking at the screen of your phone you get a "Waiting" notification to let you know.
Well...Iunderstand what you are saying...yes nokia has that...but we also get an engage beep tone ...i don't get a ringing sound if the other person is on another call...that works for me..how do you get a ringing tone??? Never heard that In my country

You are missing the point..it is not about your call waiting... Eg. I call you and if you are on another call, my nokia phone would show that you are on another call by displaying a notice "call waiting" to indicate that you are busy. Yes this feature was also there on my motorola and nokia phones
I know what you are talking about, i have seen this. I used to get it on my HD2 with Win 6.5, but i honestly have not seen it on my HD2 with android.
I think it is a carrier thing also. I never ever got the "Waiting" message when calling vodafone or optus phones, only when calling other telstra phones. Never saw it when i was using vodaphone either, with any phone, only ever saw it on telstra.

[Q] Issue receiving incoming calls

I've the S4 for a little over a week, but it's been a rather busy week so I haven't given it my full attention as yet. I really like it so far, I haven't gotten all the bells and whistles to work and I'm testing battery life with them disabled vs enabled etc. But I'm not really doing much else with it yet.
The only actual issue I'm having is receiving phone calls. When someone calls me, it takes a couple rings on their end before my phone starts ringing (I've encountered this with Sprint before though) but then when I try to answer the call, I don't get the person on the other end. I get a recorded message telling me I've got an incoming call from (name of caller in my contacts list) and if I want to accept to press 1 now. The message takes so long to get to that point that by the time it tells me to press 1 to accept the call, the call goes into voicemail.
I don't receive a lot of phone calls, but I would like to be able to actually answer them when I do. As of now when someone does call me I have to call them back.
This message plays AFTER I've 'accepted' the call on the screen and it plays through the handset not the speakers. I have Google voice set up for my voicemail.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like you have google voice setup or you used to. You will have to go to the site on your pc to disable it.

I thought Google Voice had something to do with it but I didn't think of checking the settings via PC.
For anyone else with the same issue: Google.com/voice>settings>calls> call screening off.

[Q] End Call Disconnects Both calls when in call waiting

When you are on a call and receive a second call.... I can answer the 2nd call and swap between the 2
However, when you press END CALL on the active call.. it disconnects BOTH calls. That NEVER happened on my S4.
Is this a software glitch? Anyone else have this issue?

My Galaxy S4 handled it correctly. It disconnects only the active call
I actually tested it out yesterday on a friends S4
I just found this on Verizons website
o Initiate Call Waiting:
When you're on the line and a second call comes in, you'll hear a tone to let you know you have another call. When that happens, you have three choices:
Put the first call on hold by pressing SEND. You'll automatically be connected with the second call. To return to the first call: Press SEND again. To switch between the two calls: Press SEND.
Or, end the first call by asking the first caller to hang up. This automatically connects you to your waiting call.
Really.. I have to ask the other person to hang up? That so F'n Stupid... I know this worked on my S4..
That's how the note 3 works and how the s3 worked. You hit swap when you are done. Not intuitive. I've accidentally hung up on many a caller.

Unable to answer phone calls

Using stock dialer, on Oreo. (Had the same problem on Nougat.)
When a call comes in, it does not allow me to answer the call. If I drag up on the ball for "answer", it simply bounces back. It won't "answer".
However, this only happens when the phone is "cold". After answering a call the phone answers normally for future calls
Any ideas?
This doesn't seem to be a dead spot in the touch screen, as I can suspend the ball at the apex for an indefinite time.
The problem seems to be that it doesn't trigger the "call answer". It isn't accepting it as an input.
This is repeatable, but once it has "answered" a call, it will generally answer the next few calls accurately.
I have the same thing on Nougat and Oreo too can be pretty annoying at times

I am on T-Mobile and have not seen this happen. Any of you using WiFi Calling, if not try and see if it makes a difference.
Don't swipe up from the icon.
Swipe up from higher up, near the contact picture.
Just like the rest of the google apps, google doesn't use a proper viewport and the coordinates are messed up the essential phone.

This is my second headset and the first one was without this issue. If you have any one with another carrier, try their sim card. This is what I have done with another phone brand when there was an unrelated to your issue.

anyone got a fix or workaround ??
This happens to me too. Does the same thing to ignore. I also have problems where I can't hear the person for a good 30 seconds, even though it gives me the ringtone when the call is placed. Sprint says it's not on their end... I've pretty much decided to sell this.
Before this I had Moto G5 Plus which was highly rated as the best budget and it had a ton of issues too. I may buy an iPhone for the first time. I'm just tired of always having an issue with something on an Android device. I just want a product that works 100% of the time.

If you start in the middle of the screen and swipe UP in short strokes, doe this resolve your issue.
I've seen this come up a few times on here and the subreddit and haven't had an issue answering or declining calls :S
