I get irrationally excited about each new Nexus device, and as such I pre-ordered the N9 as soon as I was able to (32GB version).
Today, I decided that the device is not worth the $500+ cost (including tax and shipping for the 32GB model). I already have a N7 (2013, 32GB), and N10 (16GB), and both still work great for my needs. All I really do is web-browsing and watch movies/TV (Hulu Plus, NetFlix, Google Play Movies) on my tablets, so what is this new device going to offer me in terms of real-world performance? I am a bit of a spec-whore, but the new N9 only has 2GB of RAM and a non-interesting PPI, so I don't feel like the N9 gives any bragging rights.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the N9 will be great, but for my needs, this will be the first Nexus device not making its way into my mailbox.
The N6, on the other hand, will definitely be replacing my N5!
Interesting, why did you decide that the Nexus 6 was a worthy upgrade while the Nexus 9 was not? I certainly understand thinking that neither is worth the upgrade, but the Nexus 9 looks to be a much bigger bump over the Nexus 7 than the Nexus 6 vs the 5. The 9's SoC is much more powerful than the 7's, while the 6 is more of a modest upgrade to the 5.
Nexus 9 is not a successor of the N7, it is from the N10

I agree with this, but I was shocked at the nexus 6 price! No way I can afford that for a while, that's for sure! 4 kids near Xmas lol. I am interested to see the specs and price of the oneplus two! This company has a bright future, Thay just have to lose the frustrating invitation only system.

For my smartphone, the increased screen size of the N6 is useful for things like GPS, watching movies, and reading. I already watch a pretty large amount of video content on my phone, so a bigger screen will improve the experience.
Also, the N6 just looks so pretty
My Nexus 7's touch screen decided to stop working on the hardware side after a year (it took a hard fall while moving this summer but it was in a case) and I couldn't RMA it because the warrantee expired. I decided that the Nexus 9 was worth it for me because of the k1 Denver which is a huge upgrade over the N7 (2013) processor. The 2gb of RAM isn't ideal, however its still more than enough for me to play some games and use it for various things. I am also excited about the larger size, I had a LG G Pad 8.3 until it got water damaged and I miss the larger tablet experience. This summer was full of bad luck with devices for me so I am eager to start fresh with s great new tablet. I considered the Tab S for a while but I couldn't get over that terrible home button and capacitive keys on it. I know everyone is different and the price is high for a nexus but it's still cheaper than a pos ipad.

Try androidcentral for example. So I decided to swap it out.
I tried a Galaxy Tab S 8.4 which has an incredible screen and is quite good overall, but that god awful touchwiz with it's stupid small lags drove me nuts - so I sold it as well.
What remains is Nexus 9 I suppose.
I just can't accept a 32GB device. Not now. Not after I've had several devices now with 64GB of storage. My first Android tablet, 3 years ago...32GB plus a 32GB card.
I'll swap the N10 for the N9 and keep the N5 and it's a pretty easy decision for me.
While the N10 still is a great device with a superb display (for 10" tablet) it could use a little more power. I use it to read on the web most of the time and it's often sluggish while browsing now. That especially became apparent after I got the N5.
What's keeping me from getting the N6 is the size and also the price. 6" is just too big for a phone that's supposed to reside in my pocket. If it would be priced in the range of its predecessors I maybe would try it for the fun of it, but at 700 - definitely not.

Really like the sound of the Motorola droid turbo, monster of a phone! Also has a very large battery almost 4000mah
I pre-ordered an lte one from Best Buy and have similar thoughts Maybe the nvidia shield, but, decided to go through with it, and yes I feel its expensive. But had $25 in reward dollars and can pay it off over a year.
I do need a tablet with built in lte do to the fact we do a lot of short trips with medicore wifi, or the hotel charging for medicore wifi. Yes I can wifi tether but it burns the battery down on the phone, and being away, use that as well. Still have about a month to thnk about it, and if I change my mind, can just not open up the packaging and bring it the local BestBuy for a refund.

Depends on needs I suppose. It's no secret the N9 is targeting more productivity-oriented people. If I were primarily a multimedia/games consumer, I wouldn't be terribly interested in the N9.
For me though, I'm a student, and when I'm not doing student stuff, I'm generally doing emails, vid chat, web browsing, maybe a casual game occasionally like poker or something, so the N9 16GB is actually all I need. To be honest the only time I ever feel space constraints is when it comes to loading up a bunch of apps (which I'll never use) or putting HD movies on the device.
Plus, the availability of 64GB otg usb sticks for 40 or so bucks make that a non-issue really.
As for phones, I see no incentives to go from the N5 to the n6. Technically the N5 is still a better phone than most people are using, not to say that from an elitist sense, but the fact that as far as tech specs go, apps and everything else, it's got what most people need (or don't need considering the recent NFC shutoff debacle at walmart and other major retailers)... Especially considering I'm the type of person who will be carrying my N9 just about everywhere. I'm not going toward this "I'll read and browse on my phablet" trend. 6" is too small to enjoy doing tablet stuff, and it's too big to be a comfortable phone, in the pocket and in the hand.

It's kinda hard to hear someone say that the N9 is too expensive and then decide to go for the much more expensive N6 instead.
I agree that not everyone needs a ton of storage, but there's NO excuse for them to not even give us the option. OTG sticks out, can get broken off, and uses power. So no, it's not a non-issue.

I can certainly understand the confusion, other than the fact that I didn't say the N9 is too expensive. What I said is that the cost of the device is not worth it FOR ME, given the devices I already have and the usage requirements for said devices. N9 will no doubt be a great device, and if I were buying a new tablet today, it would be the first (and only) one on my list.

Well, if it didnt have knox I would have just gotten rid of the damn touchwiz. But then you'd have warranty problems in case the tablet decides to die someday.

New to the forums, looking to by my first tablet. Not really interested in the ipad 3. I want a tablet which will be good for watching videos and playing a bit of games, also want a good web browser. Which tablet will be ideal out of these 3? My budget is $500, so the price factor doesnt really matter. Neither the s pen or the keyboard dock appeal to me. Thanks!
The Infinity would be the worst drain of money you could even consider. For its price, the hardware is underpowered - typing on it right now, Browser (stock, not Chrome - it's too slow to run Chrome smoothly) force closed (this is TF700 hate-post V2) and the keyboard froze for a good 10 sec when I got back in. Build quality and the like is down to chance, but even if you get a well-built one, the I/O sucks, Tegra 3 can't push 1080p without crying to its mother and to be honest, Asus' software updates are unreliable. The alarm clock's still broken from the one before last.
The Nexus 10, on the other hand, has the most powerful processor in any mobile device right now, and it is well-equipped to power the much, much higher resolution it has to offer. You can pretty much guarantee that it will provide you with the best Android has to offer on tablets both now and for a long time into the future. The Infinity is already obsolete.
Also, the Note's only real draw is the S Pen, though for some that is pretty significant (it's like a Wacom tablet computer). So if that isn't what you're after, save yourself some money and grab the Nexus 10.
The NEXUS hands down, 100%. It is the fastest Tab on the earth with the best screen of all. If only I did not buy a N7.
If I was looking to buy a 10in tab, then I would go for the nexus 10.

I'm still within my return period at Best Buy -- and will be bringing my Infinity and dock back, and getting a Nexus 10. Build quality for mine is fine -- actually very solid, nice form factor, superb battery and nice display. But it IS a bit laggy, and between ASUS and NVidia, there's way too much in the way of arcane routines to go through in order to unlock, root and safely flash it. Nexus 10 promises to be a much better experience in this respect. I'll be getting the 32GB N10.
If the Nexus 10 had 3G then I don't think I would hesitate to chose it, I have a nexus 7 and I'm thinking about giving it to my wife and getting a new Nexus 7 32GB+3G version, from the look of how the nexus 7 is going, I may just wait for the Nexus 10 in a few months when they bring out the 64GB+3G nexus 10 (although 32GB is probably more likely, I may just hold out for the 3G version)

Nexii have classically been rom magnets, though there is always the danger that they've finally released enough to dilute this effect. Also important is the number of users, which is also correlated to the number of roms. The 10 inch android tablet is not proven (but this is probably its best chance).
CleanRom on the Infinity is an Asus ROM, trimmed lovingly. It's still a manufacturer ROM, though, and I would bet you 2 Nexus 10's that the Asus UI never makes it to the n10.
I returned my infinity for the reasons in post 2. I'm not bitter, I just think my $500 is better spent elsewhere when my phone is better than my tablet...

It's not worth spending your money on TF700T because it lags crazy! I'm finally Unlocked (Clean rom 2.3) But what's the point? I just voided my warranty for a device that can't run smoothly without a Custom Rom. Get a device that actually runs smoothly without any type of tweaking.
My Infinity works great but It's not the same feeling like i had before i unlocked it (Fear of Bricking). I might even buy N10, Hopefully i don't get same experience i had on infinity.
Since that is cleared up, I would say Nexus 10 seems like a better deal in Hardware but If you want features like S-Pen and what not then Note is great. But at end of the day, you will be frustrated with slow OS than not having the features (S-Pen, Multiscreen)
Wait till there are couple of reviews for Nexus 10, I will not buy anything else until i see a video for it.

yea, if I were you I would avoid the TF700, especially if you don't want/need a keyboard dock.
It has a nice deisgn, and a great screen, but it is laggy as crap and I haven't rooted mine so the overall experience sucks.
On paper it's almost the perfect tablet. Unfortunately Asus really dropped the ball on this one.
I'm probably getting the Nexus 10. Then selling it if Asus makes a really nice Transformer replacement at CES. Or I'm switching to Windows 8. I have no idea what I want to do.
People , I was checking the App store , and found a good number of Apps supported for the tablet , Apple may boast a 275000 app selection , but many of them are just show off (like the brain explorer , titanic time) and so forth , they look good for a couple of weeks , until their charm fades away
The main ones are content comsumption apps , and the market has a handful of them (CNN , cnbc , even TV streams) Google docs on google drive is a charm to use.
PLus I wont be bogged down by itunes all the time ,

Mm. One of my key reasons for not buying anything Apple is to use one to its fullest, you need the whole iRange, and Mac has the disadvantage vs Windows when it comes to ecosystem (especially games) so I don't really want to.

To those who are saying the Note 10.1 and the Transformer Infinity are ****ty tablets, how could you possibly think that? Have you never used a Coby tablet running GB?
To answer the OPs question, don't buy a tablet at all. Tablets are transitional technology, they won't be around forever and the ones that are brand new depreciate in six months and become totally outdated in a year. Even if tablets weren't a completely pointless waste of money, even if you could find some productive use for it that would make it practical for you to own one, no matter what tablet you buy it will be totally outdated in a year. So I say spend your money on something else.
After having all three, I'm holding on to my Nexus 10. The my experience with the ASUS TF700 was frustrating, and after multiple returns for a variety of issues I got a "good" one. Stock it's a frustrating experience, and making the necessary modifications voids your warranty.
The Note was a great tablet, although I'm not a fan of TouchWiz it wasn't so bad. It stomped the TF700 in web browsing too. The S-Pen was a novelty for me though, so I figured I'd save some money.
The Nexus is a beast, no regrets.

For your requirements, watching movies and playing games, I'd recommend:
1) Galaxy Note 10.1
The CPU/GPU and resolution are balanced right and all games are fast. Screen on battery life is consistently ~8 hours. Benefit is it's not just a consumption device but also creativity and productivity with pen for drawing, paperless note taking, etc. Price was dropped to $499 for 32GB version to compete with Nexus 10.
2) Nexus 10
Has potential but games need to be optimized for it and the ridiculously high resolution. Battery life, sound quality and screen quality are behind Galaxy Note 10.1. It's a brand new device so there are minor issues that need to be addressed with the upcoming OS updates.
Skip the Tegra3 Infinity. When looking at Google Play comments for games I always see people reporting performance and games not working on TF201/300/700 devices while it's fine on other devices. I had the Nexus 7 and some games like Nova 3, etc. are laggy while fine on the other devices.
Another option unless you're anxious to get something now is to wait closer to Christmas and hope for new devices to appear. A Galaxy Note 12" 1080p with 4-core Exynos 5450, 4GB DRAM, etc. would be ideal.

I am in a search of a 10" tablet, and ever since I found out about Nexus 10 - I have been wanting to get one, and this time seems to be a good moment to get it, especially since its price has dropped since it's official launch a year ago, and I'm not even looking at the prices for used devices.
But what currently concerns me is a chance to gen in an awkward situation of getting a Nexus 10 and a few months later Google could announce the second generation of this tablet, just like with Nexus 7 when I bought it back in December only to find about the second generation which is FAR superior, and I just couldn't resist to not buy it (probably my best bought ever).
First I guess I should get it straight for every one who shall post in this thread - even despite N10 may be behind the rest of the tablet market compared to the latest and greatest 10" devices out there, I really dislike the Big Four (e.g. GNote 10.1 2014, iPad Air, Xperia Tablet Z and Transformer TF701) for various reasons, mainly being the OEM logo on the front and some design decisions I don't quite like.
So I guess you could consider this thread as "Convince me to get the N10", and I have several questions about this device:
1) How is the screen compared to N7 2013, if there are any owners of both devices?
2) How well does it perform? Do you face the lack of available RAM? Does it perform well on latest Android versions?
3) How good it this tablet for gaming? Is Mali GPU powerful enough to run Real Racing 3, Asphalt 8, Dead Trigger 2, Dungeon Hunter 4, Galaxy on Fire 2?
I was also thinking about an option of getting a used N10 + used iPad 2 if I am lucky with money

Well there were some rumors that LG will release a 2nd Gen nexus 10 but there's no official announcement yet. I'd say it's pretty close so you can wait a month until the holidays.
Either way, this is still a great tablet, kit kat brought a lot of under the hood improvements and the device is running very well, especially if you root it.
Unless you have to have the latest and great, you can pick up a used 1st gen cheap in like new shape... That's what I just did. People are unloading them now...
We're only talking maybe a month at most at this point so I'd just wait, you can go ahead and buy a refurbished one to save money though

Love my N10. I had thought about purchasing a Samsung Note 10.1 2014 edition, but changed my mind after using it for over a week (borrowed one from a friend). Nice performance boost, but no where near enough to make a large enough to warrant $500 when I have a decent tablet that does everything I need. S-Pen was really nice, but I stopped using it two days into the trial.
As to the questions.
1. The N10 has a super crisp 320ppi display. The resolution is higher than the N7 2013 tab, but the N7 has a higher price rating. One very important note: Kitkat 4.4 has made a significant change on the N10. Improved the color calibration. See the color calibration thread and check the posts post 4.4. I have an N10 and a N7 (original) and the color really improved on the N10. Someone who has the new N7 as well as the N10 will need to confirm, but I believe that they close to parity now.
2. Performance is great! I'm able to do whatever I want without lagging performance. The Mali God used also does a great job. Sure faster GPU's have since been released but the one selected was a top performer at release and still holds it's own. 4.4 also brought a boost in my benchmarks so the driver is better optimized than prior.
I don't know of any lack of memory. The 2GB does have a portion allocated to the GPU's, but I multitask a number of apps and have yet run into a problem related to a memory constraint. KitKat has also improved memory handling, so even less of an issue than previously.
3. Gaming? This tab really rocks. I have Asphalt 7 and Batman TDKR, Nova 3 and several others. Very smooth and perform well. Would like to see options to change screen resolution as the few times there is any reduced fps would be improved at a lower resolution.
iPad 2? Why? So that you can repurchase your apps on both platforms? Makes little sense to me.

A refurbished tab makes sense as you still get the warranty and save even more.
I disagree about one month at best. Media hype started this trend. If pattern follows suit, it's more likely in July 2014.

I have an N10 and a N7 (original) and the color really improved on the N10. Someone who has the new N7 as well as the N10 will need to confirm, but I believe that they close to parity now.
2. Performance is great! I'm able to do whatever I want without lagging performance. The Mali God used also does a great job. Sure faster GPU's have since been released but the one selected was a top performer at release and still holds it's own. 4.4 also brought a boost in my benchmarks so the driver is better optimized than prior.
I don't know of any lack of memory. The 2GB does have a portion allocated to the GPU's, but I multitask a number of apps and have yet run into a problem related to a memory constraint. KitKat has also improved memory handling, so even less of an issue than previously.
3. Gaming? This tab really rocks. I have Asphalt 7 and Batman TDKR, Nova 3 and several others. Very smooth and perform well. Would like to see options to change screen resolution as the few times there is any reduced fps would be improved at a lower resolution.
iPad 2? Why? So that you can repurchase your apps on both platforms? Makes little sense to me.
A refurbished tab makes sense as you still get the warranty and save even more.

There has been NO credible evidence that a second gen N10 is even in existence.
It could be 1 week. It could be 6 months, OR they might NEVER make another 10 incher again!
I'll just happily plod along with my HP touchpad until it is released.. but I CANT STOP SEARCHING FOR NEWS ABOUT IT. I don't know what it is but I want a 2nd gen N10 so bad.. I think because I saw how good the 2012 N7 was, then the 2013 N7 blew it out of the water..
I got a 90 warranty refurbished delivered for $314 and I expect the new N10 when it comes out soon will be like $500+shipping+tax and so be heading to $550+, will it be twice as good as the $314 I paid? Doubt it.
Is there anything wrong about the current N10 which justifies delay? I'd say the biggest problem it has is probably battery life.

Well I'm not using my first gen iPad as my main device, and I am not planning to do so with iPad 2 either - it's just for few exclusive games and Tap Tap Revenge stuff, so no need in buying anything again

Hmm, so if I get a N10 for christmas or my b-day (both of which are in december) - I'll still have 6 months until the tablet is announced and a couple more until it arrives to Russia, which would be pretty similar to my N7 -> N7 2013 scenario

True, about speculation and yeah, maybe it does not even exist in the first place, but why would Google ditch the 10" market? The Nexus line needs devices of every popular size there is, and Google delivered just that with N4, N7 and N10. I see no reason in leaving that particular category by not releasing a second gen N10

Woot currently has a refurbished Nexus 10 32 GB on sale for $279. It's really tempting, but I think I'm going to hold off.

Well, the almost 3000mAh battery capaticy difference between N10 and iPad 3/4 obviously affects how long a tablet can live, that's not to mention the ridiculous 2500x1600-whatever resolution and the Exynos chip (which, AFAIK but I may be mistaken, isn't as efficent in the battery life aspect as Snapdragon CPUs are)

My thinking exactly, they're still in stock.
I got a few issues, one is when the N10 immediately comes out, it will be only from Google Play, and they'll hit it with both tax and shipping. If I wait a few months (typically) I can get it without either and the price drops. So the Woot offer is $314, whilst N10 successor, in reality will be in the $580 region, which is 85% higher cost.
Refurbished with 90days warranty covers against receiving a dud.
I looked at ebay, and they're selling used for at least that price.

I'm not understanding you. From a dealer, on a creditcard, will you get a working system? That's my concern.
If you're concerned about buying just before a successor comes out, then you must cover that in two ways:
only get it if the current specification, performance, meets your needs, so when successor comes out you don't actually have a problem which needs solving.
Take the age of the device into account when buying used. I'd say at the price Woot is asking, its fair given the date N10 came out and the % probability of a new device coming out. The Nexus 10 was announced over a year ago, I'd say chance of a new model announcement soon is high.
If you're trying to decide about waiting for new product which may come out soon, then you'll always have issues, e.g. the new product may get defects with initial batches, so even if the new device was announced today, you'd be wise to not get right anyway, I always wait for others to get it, and let defects get discovered and buy from the 2nd batch anyway so I'd not buy the next N10 for a few months anyway.

Anyone who spend hours and hours working on a tablet, should have the PSU with them, I don't think the battery life is so low to render it useless, a typical example of me being away from power is about 3 hours.
The PSU on tablets are small, microusb cables can be small, its not a Netbook with a bulky PSU and cord.

My concern is about the "refurbished" mark - what differs a normal new device from the same but refurbished one? From the definition I read about it being returned to the manufacturer for some kind of repairs, but what about scratches, breakings on the body, any damage, etc?
And yeah, if there is a second gen N10 coming - I'm probably getting it anyway, especially if it's not Samsung which means "Hello, Snapdragon" and maybe a Full HD screen instead of current N10's resoltion (like, seriosuly - who needs such a big-a$$ resolution on a 10" tablet!? These number races are killing the industry today ffs)

So your choices:
So imagine the N10's used value is $250 selling on ebay when the N10 2 comes out and suppose to swap to N10 2 in 6 months from now.
If you buy a N10 new now they're available for about $415 delivered, you'll add small blemishes to it, so it will look the same when you sell it as a refurbished one, you'll pay more $ for it and so when you sell it, you've lost $165, so you paid $1/day to use it.
If you buy a refurbished N10 for $314, it will look the same when you sell it as the new one when you sell it, but you lost $64, so you paid $0.4/day to use it.
The key thing is what you get in your hands is fully working with no significant marks than you'd do yourself to a new unit.

Well you've answered your own question then, there are problems for you with the current model, issues you'd find an urgent need to swap it out, so don't buy the current N10 obviously.

I think 90days is enough to cover for receiving a dud, anything after is really about you accidentally damaging it and those longer warranties do not cover for accidental damage. Hence the free supplied warranty in reality is sufficient.

Well not in my case, getting it from the HS, finding it to be broken or something, and then sending it back, and waiting again until a new one arrives... Too much time consuming, especially with how much time the deliveries usually take from the states to Russia (which can reach up to 2 weeks or even more)

My experience with the shield tablet has been cracking, case separation, weak wifi and battery drain while plugged in.

I too was set on the Nexus 9 originally, But after Issues with Amazon about my pre-order, and reading up on some first impression reviews. I decided to get the Shield Tablet and honestly, I don't regret it. I was set on that 4:3 aspect ratio but the 16:9 is just natural already, coming from having a kindle fire previously.. With the Lollipop update, man this thing flies. No lag, No crashes (yet). I got viper4android and modified the audio configs and the sounds is fantastic. And having an Sd Card slot makes it better.

Have the Lte version for 7 weeks now and no cracks, no case separation, build quality is perfect and no problems with Wifi and Lte.
Just works perfect and with Android 5L update it's even little faster.
Comparable Nexus 9 with Lte still is here in Europe € 165,00 more expensive and has no MicroSd slot.
But you have to make your own choice.

Save your money on the iPad and N9. I bought my WiFi version a couple weeks back and the only problem I had was that something borked my MicroSD during the 5.0 update. Aside from that this unit rocks and wouldn't give it up for anything.

I have a pile, and I mean a PILE of tablets, I'd take the nexus 9 over anything out today.
I gave up on the Nexus 9 and went back to the Shield Tablet (LTE).
Had planned on selling the Shield but in the end, I couldn't get over the build quality issues with the N9.
I tried to like it, I really wanted to, had been looking forward to it since it was announced. The first unit I received was ok for the most part, but then it just randomly crapped out. The replacement had horrific light bleed, something that usually doesn't bother me at all. In the end, it didn't make sense to give up LTE and expandable storage, while paying a $100 premium.
That said, I know Nvidia has had their share of build issues w/ the Shield Tablet, but I've been fortunate so far...and that's likely been the difference maker. I might consider an N9 again when the price drops (if nothing better is out), if I could get my hands on a decent unit.
I've also owned dang near every Asus/Samsung/Nexus tablet since the original Xoom.
They've all had their pros, cons, and quirks...but right now I'm most satisfied with the Shield...just my $0.02

Have you tried the nst? Because the nexus9 does not compare. In my opinion, just like Apple products, a hype product but implemented poorly... Htc could have done so much better if they didn't target Ipad lovers. It's too expensive and it does next to nothing. The 4:3 ratio doesn't make sense. Lack of sd card slot is just a bad decision. Sorry, but i can't agree
Add me to the list of people who had their heart set on a Nexus 9 for weeks and ended up going with the Shield instead. The Shield is by far my favorite Android device of all that I have owned or used.

Same, I'm Nexi guy for last three years only, I passed this year and went with team Shield. I'm quite happy with it, even with supposed issues as what device doesn't have them. But this with LTE an SD card ability wins.

Shield tablet. Not only is it a better build quality, but it has expandable memory slot up to 128 GB, and it is cheaper. On top of that if you plan to do ANY type of gaming; the Shield will come out on top (especially with the insanely nice controller) . Nvidia is also very quick with pushing updates. Shield is also the only tablet besides the nexus devices that have lollipop . Oh yea... and it has a built in stylus with some pretty cool bundled stylus apps that utilize the K1 to its fullest!
As with most people here who were set on the N9 I went with the Sheild Tablet. I actually had a Galaxy Tab S 8.4" for a few months, both Tab S and Shield for a few weeks and now just the Shield
Few turn offs for N9, like most no expandable storage and being forced to shell out almost $500 for 32gb but a big downer too for me is I can't palm the N9 with 1 hand comfortably.
What sold me on Shield Tablet, SD card obviously, the pen is a neat bonus especially for Citrix my company uses, magnetic cover is bad ass, totally worth the $40, compact form, I can stick with Kitkat and xposed for multi window and other features (having Google Maps and Waze open in the same view is a must for me as I drive like 45k miles a year)
FWIW the Tab S 8.4" perks were IR blaster, very stable multi view, email client, AMOLED screen obviously, ridiculously thin and light. Downers were AMOLED's degrade over time, not the fastest thing out there, Google maps and Waze lag always.. not bad lag but just it's never smooth. AMOLED screen was the main deal breaker, I plan to keep this for 2-3 years. I just now upgraded from an original TF101
After using a Galaxy S2 abusively for two years, I still have no idea where the thing that AMOLEDs degrade over time comes from. It still looks embarrassingly good, especially in a dark room, even now.
If the Nexus 9 experience is anything like the Nexus 7, we aren't missing much. Except an extra preloaded app or four (Fitness, Docs, Sheets, Slides) to add to the growing repertoire of Apps So Good That Users Can't Be Trusted To Install Themselves on Nexus devices.
Despite the Shield's obviously inferior screen compared to the Tab S, I gotta say NVIDIA still made it look really good. Light leakage is only obvious when starting apps or the tablet with a black screen.
I still maintain that the Shield is the best tablet you can buy right now. I've had zero issues with mine, except occasional lag on Lollipop after heavy usage, and this is remedied (for me, at least) by opening recent apps and clearing out the ones I'm not using. I imagine it'll be fixed in due time, as Nvidia has been fantastic with updates (my girlfriend's Nexus 7 LTE is still on 4.4, for what it's worth...). I do have hairline cracks at three of four corners, but I'm not so petty as to let some heat expansions lead me to conclude it's not a fantastic tablet; the blemishes have no impact on performance, and a responsive interface is what was important to me.
As for the Nexus 9, I was worried that I was too impatient when I got the Shield as I knew the new Nexus was coming out soon, but after reading the reviews (most are underwhelming), I don't have any regrets. I also wanted a form factor that could fit in my back pocket (as does the Shield, even with the cover), and the Nexus couldn't.
As a slight disclaimer, the stylus was a major selling point for me--I use my tablet in meetings for taking notes, and don't want a bulky keyboard attachment. I'm also not a gamer, though I have spent far longer than I expected to using Nvidia's GRID service. If you don't care about the stylus (or would prefer the Nexus 9's keyboard folio), or you don't want to play games at all (warning: that was my stance before having this tablet), the Nexus 9 is probably an equally viable choice.
I wouldn't touch the N9 if you gave me one. Google gimped the drivers and removed desktop OpenGl, which completely nerfs the tablet's gaming and emulation capabilities. Plus the build issues like light bleed and the 32Gb cap with no sd card. While the K1 in the N9 is a bit faster on paper, the absence of desktop openGl completely counteracts that. Unless you are using your N9 purely for web browsing and productivity apps I see absolutely no reason to spend an extra $100

The stock experience of Nexus 9 is not great (quite bad actually). But with good custom rom and kernel i very much enjoy it.
For me, it deserved a lot of it. Mine is still working but just had to do one of the required, every-other-month wipes to prevent issues (lag, reboots). The screen size (and quality) is still perfect for me which is why I moved from n7 2013. Altering dpi settings helped with some lag, esp. Chrome. I can't help but wonder if one more GB of ram wouldn't have totally changed how this device works. For the $, it should have been there. It seems HTC did a particularly poor job with policy/warranty repairs.

At this point I would consider it to be possible for the N9 to get O, but ultimately we'll have to wait and see
I don't think the device on its own is that bad, (apart from the lightbleed.) All the hate should be directed at Google for not sorting out the issues and not asking HTC for a 3GB device from day 1. :crying:
My N9 has been OK. A bit of light bleed but not an issue. Run custom Rom from new and it does everything goes I want it to do smoothly.
I love the device but for a tablet, I feel they kinda skimped on the specs a little... to a degree that its pretty noticeable especially with many of the latest changes to android requiring more processing power and the fact that a tablet ought to be able to easily handle multi-tasking. It almost seems like their design is more proof of concept based rather than user satisfaction. Either that or they are doing too much and drop the ball on some stuff.
I regret paying so much and getting so little. I will never buy a new device, only after 6 months!

I enjoy mine, and I like large tablets. With the rumored new Nexus 7, I'll probably grab a pixel c around Christmas if there's no new large Nexus. 7" just doesn't make sense to me with the size of phones.

If I would have paid $400 for mine I would definitely hate it, but I got it for around $250 directly from HTC in one of those flash sales and I've been pretty happy.
Even if it hurts to say it, as an android fan, for $400 I would rather save a little bit more and grab an Ipad. I had an Ipad 2 for like 3 years and that damn thing never quit, still lasted like 11hrs Sot and even months sleeping (for real). Finally gave it to my GF and her 5yo niece uses and abuses it and that thing still works flawlessly, it's incredible.
Whilst owning the N9 and running CM13, I also picked up a LG v500 for only £70. I put CM13 on the v500 and the performance shows up the N9 for smoothness, consistency and multitasking. This goes against all the benchmarks where the N9 is significantly faster.
With nothing running, the N9 is smoother. Load up a ton of things in the Ram, and it all comes crashing down for the N9 whereas the v500 is still as smooth and speedy as when little is in Ram.
As the N9 was gathering dust, I got rid. R.I.P. Nexus 9.
seems like disabling certain content providers and their corresponding services/receivers for the google play services app has made more than a significant improvement for me. I usually try not to mess with that stuff since it could really screw stuff up too. also, do not deny permissions for anything google. use xposed AppOps to control those. completetely different experience. sad that Google's objective is far more important than user experience.

I was using Pure Nexus
But I built myself AOSP so I'm using that at the moment

Used to be YES! But not if the front speakers are gone. Sticking with n6.... Looking at ZTE axon 7 as bootloader is unlocked and twrp plus good hw and cheaper price, good speakers seems worth a better look.

I see moving to a 5.5" screen as a downgrade.
After spending the price of two laptops on my N6 (£549) I expect it to last more than a couple of years. I like new toys, but there's a limit imposed by common sense. Newer processors may give an infinitesimal improvement in performance, which no doubt can be measured by benchmarks, but the N6 is plenty fast enough for me. The screen may not be the best around these days, but every time I watch a video I think "Wow, this is an amazing quality picture", so again, good enough for me.

I'll stay with Nexus 6, it's the best phone I ever had, even if it's not my daily phone because it's too big, it's really wonderfull with big screen, nice resolution (ready for carboards), enought RAM, 25Go is enought for me, nice photos/videos, good stereo sound with front speakers, fast charge... :good: I still love it
The Nexus Marlin and Sailfish will indeed not be true Nexus devices. It has been announced that Google is rebranding the Nexus brand, rumored at the moment to just be called "G"; and it will not feature a stock version of android, rather there will be G-only features built into the ROM. No word of bootloader yet.

Me too, not going to happen as long as there are decent 6" or bigger phones available. It's a pain trying to type messages or emails on such a small screen.
I really want a 64 bit mobile to develop my rom, but the 6P might break if I think about it too hard. So I'll check the new ones, but if they are too expensive here in Europe, and the early reviews are negative, then I'll just keep my N6.
I still love my N6 but I cracked the screen a bit in the corner.
I also want to finally make the move to Project Fi so I'm hoping for a bundle deal.
If what is in the leaks is true. I rather buy note 7. Back design too ugly for me.
There are a lot of reasons why people buy a Nexus device. The 2 most common reasons I always see is either the simplicity of the device (dare I say, bare bones of what a phone should do/have) and stock skin of Android or on the other side, the complex and customisable options that is possible with the fact that Nexus devices are easy to tinker with combined with the support of the developer community who are constantly providing support for devices for years even after they reach their sell by date(shoutout to all the devs btw )
Combined with this I guess its safe to stay for the most advanced users and beginners alike it all depends on if they're specific needs are still being met for them to stay with Nexus 6 or any other device for that matter and if not then it's time to upgrade.
Personally I will probably stick with Nexus 6 for as long as it lasts me or if a phone gets released with everything the Nexus 6 is and hopefully more ( Preferably a phone such as the Xperia Z5 Ultra , if Sony ever release it )
The price is too high for me. No front facing speakers, "just" a 5.5 Inch screen etc etc. For the moment my N6 is fast and stable enough to use it for the best part of the next year as well.
Bottom line, I would rather buy a OnePlus 3, than a "New Nexus" at this point.
Did they unviel it yet? I have my credit card ready. But i love my n6 to much lol

I've grown to the size of my phone and cant seem myself owning anything smaller.
Since first buying the Nexus 6 a couple years ago or so I've had a Moto X Pure, Huawei Mate 7, OnePlus 3, and now I'm back to the Nexus 6. This phone just has everything I want in a phone. 6 inch screen (which for me is the perfect size), simple, clean design, great development, stereo speakers, and good battery life. No point in updating to a newer phone for minimal gains in speed at the cost of at least a couple of the N6's great features.
More than likely I'm going to upgrade. My N6 will be paid off in October.
I'm ready for a smaller form factor, unless they completely **** it up and the design is completely underwhelming, I will be getting one, I'm not gonna get it on launch day like the Shamu though , gonna take my sweet time waiting for reviews to make a final decision, there is a chance I will be sticking with this device for another cycle, we'll see

Me too, I wish they would make another Nexus with a screen this size! They did it once and never again! I LOVE my N6!
I'll be keeping my N6 or getting the One Plus 3 if what I have heard and read about the new devices is true. I just love my N6, has everything I've ever wanted (minus a removable SD and/or battery which I really don't miss). Got my son a OP3 and it is really nice, I really liked my OP1. OnePlus is as close to a Nexus as you can get and unlike recent Nexus they are still inexpensive.
