I was curious about how the root exploit that unlocks our phones for all this great dev stuff works. Found this explanation, and it was quite good. For those with sufficient unix/linux knowlege, this will be totally understandable, so I'd recommend following the link, and reading the in-depth explanation, complete with C code. For those with less background in this stuff, it's still worth a read, but you'll have to work harder to understand exactly what's going on.
Post any questions in this thread, and I'll be happy to answer them!
This is a good explanation, I read something similar when rage was released, may hve even been this. But I'm pretty versed with linux and am overly versed in C...to the point where I have nightmares....

Hi and sorry for the bump guys,
Does anybody know how to do the rageagainstthecage root with an LG Optimus One P503? I have tried everything - Simple Root, SuperOneClick, VISIONary, z4root, nothing is working! I really need this root because my phone did not come with Android market and I want to install it through ADB, and I think that requires a root correct? Even if I can't root my phone, is there any way to install an apk to my phone's internal storage and not my SD card?
Thanks for reading this!
By rooting lol
I know for the opimus s you have to force a flash of an older software for z4 to root.

no you dont need to root to install thru adb. just open up command/terminal,
adb install /blah/blah/phoneapphere.apk
alternatively you can put it on your sd card and use a file manager to locate the apk and install it on the phone.. for a nice easy root, use gingerbreak its the latest un patched exploit.. theres an apk version on xda it will root your phone no issues

Can I use this on the kinda new HTC Merge? (I get it next weekend).
Spec: http://www.phonearena.com/phones/HTC-Merge_id4909
What would be the best way to root this phone?
[HTC Sense, 2.2 Froyo, CDMA/GSM, Qwerty kb - it's main backbone i guess.]
Thanks in advance

Yes but thats why hes asking if it can be used for the other phone. Specs wise, both phones are almost the same internally.

specs don't really dictate which exploit will work on a device though.
If the bootloader is locked on the HTC, there's going to be a different workaround to root it.
just sayin'
Just wondering as currently there isn't any threads for the Acer Iconia A110, and it has just about the same spec and is almost identical as the Nexus 7.
Will it be able to be rooted with the same tools that are made for nexus 7? Or will I have to wait till a root for the A110 comes out?
Thanks

i doubt it comes with a unlockable/lockable bootloader like all the nexus devices do. so, im guessing the method will be different.

just curious guys as to what the disadvantages are with the Acer Iconia A110 if unable to root atm? is it going to be possible in the near future to unlock the boot loader? is it worth getting one of the nexus instead? been looking at the 32gb 3g option.
I was given a a110 after my 100 suddenly crapped out .I was able to root using of of the universal root methods on xda.but I have not seen anything for a boot loader unlock or a recovery.as of now its not a bad tablet.

Is there any chance that you could post a link in this thread on which universal root method you used? I would like to do the same with my acer. They put a lot of useless apps on there (ice age, etc..). Thanks in advance!

Root does not seem to work on mine
I read you were able to root your a110. I tried the Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v17 with no results using both normal and special mode. All applications on googleplay like adaway say it is not rooted. I did all according to tutorial by the way.
So please how did you go about rooting your acer iconia tab a110.
So far I love it but my 32 go microsd is useless because I cannot move any applications to it. Or do anybody know of a working way around it. The problem is the storage is not mounted according to android phones so no applications rcognize the second external storage.
Thank you!

Thanks, I'd like to know aswell. Tried both of bin4ary's methods and nothing. Can't seem to push SU/Busybox.
I would love to know as well, there simply doesn't appear to be a root method for the Acer Iconia a110. I was able to find this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1915459, with a claim about having done it, but I'm not willing to risk it myself until there are more success stories. Rooting my Acer Iconia doesn't mean that much to me that I'm willing to brick it based on one persons claim.
Neither option is working

Thank you for sending that link to all of us trying to root the Acer. I was wondering if there was any chance that you could jot down a quick outline on the steps you took to do this. The closest I got was the program said deamon started successfully. I left the tablet on the screen for about two hours but nothing happened after that. Any insight into this would be great.
Thanks again.

So far you seem to be the only one working on this tablet. It is a great tablet but would love to be able to transfer some apps to the sd card because of the 5 gb's they gave us internally. I just don't think that its enough. The fact that you are tyring to work on this for all of us is great to see. If there is anything that I can do to try and help please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you for all of your work thus far! This also seem so to be the only site that has anything for the acer a110.
thanks for the praise but I don't deserve it .I'm not a technical Guy just taking some risk with what other people have put out .no luck so far.

i would suggest using something a little less malwarey to root. kingoroot and vroot have been shown to install backdoor libs on your device. i would recommend cdyia impactor.
actually if youd like to help out, seeing as you are now rooted i could help make recovery and a firmware restore package for this device so everyone could have root no matter what updates come yalls way.

I am looking to root a stock Sprint Galaxy Tab 2.
Are there any step by step guides or one click options?
I did look on the Kingo website but did not see the device listed.
Thanks

Okay I rooted my tablet, but how can I flash .zip files so I can install playstation mobile? I did install the CW mod when I clicked the root button. Do I just go to the boot loader and select recovery?
Yes you will boot into recovery to flash mods or new ROMs. Make a full backup first before you flash anything.
Yes it works :good:
Maybe you should add "resolved" to this topic

I always used HTC and Moto devices so I have quite an experience in unlocking bootloaders, but in the guide for rooting I red here, your don't have to unlock the bootloader or anything like that in order to root it, is that right? Is any step I should do before trying to root?
Thanks for your help in advance!

Hi, You have to know first what model and what version, KK? or JB?
After that, if is on KK use this Towelroot (just search forum)
All the credit goes to @geohot for amazing root by just an apk
1. Install apk
2. Make it rain
3. Phone will reboot
4. install Super SU from play store
5. Sit back and relax
For TWRP use this How To Install TWRP Recovery On LG G2 Running Android 4.4.2 Kitkat
Hope this helps

What's best to do? First update and then root or the other way round?

Well, first of all, after you root, NEVER take an OTA update or you'll brick. That being said, although the previous way mentioned is easier, I'd suggest getting used to adb and its miracles. Check here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48709232&postcount=869 for a guide on how to root with adb. Adb is very useful if you screw something up.
As for the order in which to do things, it's basically up to you. I believe the 806 is the same as the 802, so check that section out for stock ROMs and such, especially if you root first. It seems like you may have to update manually either way since you get an error while trying to OTA update.
