Just wondering as currently there isn't any threads for the Acer Iconia A110, and it has just about the same spec and is almost identical as the Nexus 7.
Will it be able to be rooted with the same tools that are made for nexus 7? Or will I have to wait till a root for the A110 comes out?
Thanks

i doubt it comes with a unlockable/lockable bootloader like all the nexus devices do. so, im guessing the method will be different.
Has any tegra 3 device been unlocked without using official methods

just curious guys as to what the disadvantages are with the Acer Iconia A110 if unable to root atm? is it going to be possible in the near future to unlock the boot loader? is it worth getting one of the nexus instead? been looking at the 32gb 3g option.
I was given a a110 after my 100 suddenly crapped out .I was able to root using of of the universal root methods on xda.but I have not seen anything for a boot loader unlock or a recovery.as of now its not a bad tablet.

Is there any chance that you could post a link in this thread on which universal root method you used? I would like to do the same with my acer. They put a lot of useless apps on there (ice age, etc..). Thanks in advance!

Not working :crying:
Root does not seem to work on mine
I read you were able to root your a110. I tried the Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v17 with no results using both normal and special mode. All applications on googleplay like adaway say it is not rooted. I did all according to tutorial by the way.
So please how did you go about rooting your acer iconia tab a110.
So far I love it but my 32 go microsd is useless because I cannot move any applications to it. Or do anybody know of a working way around it. The problem is the storage is not mounted according to android phones so no applications rcognize the second external storage.
Thank you!

Thanks, I'd like to know aswell. Tried both of bin4ary's methods and nothing. Can't seem to push SU/Busybox.
I would love to know as well, there simply doesn't appear to be a root method for the Acer Iconia a110. I was able to find this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1915459, with a claim about having done it, but I'm not willing to risk it myself until there are more success stories. Rooting my Acer Iconia doesn't mean that much to me that I'm willing to brick it based on one persons claim.
Neither option is working

Thank you for sending that link to all of us trying to root the Acer. I was wondering if there was any chance that you could jot down a quick outline on the steps you took to do this. The closest I got was the program said deamon started successfully. I left the tablet on the screen for about two hours but nothing happened after that. Any insight into this would be great.
Thanks again.

So far you seem to be the only one working on this tablet. It is a great tablet but would love to be able to transfer some apps to the sd card because of the 5 gb's they gave us internally. I just don't think that its enough. The fact that you are tyring to work on this for all of us is great to see. If there is anything that I can do to try and help please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you for all of your work thus far! This also seem so to be the only site that has anything for the acer a110.
thanks for the praise but I don't deserve it .I'm not a technical Guy just taking some risk with what other people have put out .no luck so far.
Figure out how to unlock bootloader now we need root
I was messing around with this thing for the last two days with minimum sleep I finally figure out how to unlock the bootloader like the Nexus 7 but rooting it I tried a few different methods even wrote a few scripts but I must be mentally stupid right now. Hi guys!
I dont know if its better to root my xoom (so I can use sd, better kernel, etc...) or to wait the official 3.1 euro update (when it will be available????) before doing the root
any suggestion will be appreciated...
thx!
Well I guess sd card support/speed enhancements isn't worth it or you would have rooted already.
Hi,
I rooted mine and put the 3.1 US update on following the 3g in five steps method. I can tell you that along with the Tiamat kernel is like a new device, so much quicker and smoother.
the only thing i see against doing the us 3.1 update is you get the us market place in which u lose the eu apps since its all regional. but apart from that its the best thing ive done to my xoom
True but you can get everything through the web market.
3.1 ? when ?
hi,
i have rooted my 3g uk xoom and im glad i did so as i always require root and always will require root !
however - i have not yet upgraded to 3.1 because i feel the ",,in 5 steps " method seems to be a little inconsistent, some folk reporting 3g issues etc.
i so badly want 3.1 but im just hoping motorola do the right thing and release it or at least give us a release date, i can even wait a month or 2 if i know its on the way.
so if your reading this and you are in the uk and you have used the ",,,in 5 steps" method please share your findings, is 3g working well, do you get 'E' or 'H' or '3G' or whatever?>?
thanks.
ps- come on Moto' where the heck is the euro 3.1 update ?? news please ??
root, next question haha

I am now updated on 3.1, and I can only say, hell yeah. If you don,t root it, no point using it.
A different view. Is like you go into a library computer where all things are locked down. You can only do what they tell you. What you want is administrator access where you use full potential out of it...

Guys; I've posted elsewhere, but you look like you've probably done what I've asked about. Can I ask for a link to the 5 steps method? (I've searched everywhere and I'm now more confused than when I started.) Have any of you tried tiamat with 3.0.1 in order to get cifs or sd card support? Success? Or did you use another method altogether?
Cheers for any answers!!
EDIT: seen the link to the 5 step method - however - anyone used tiamat with it?

Just received my gtab today. Updated to 3.2
Seems there are a lot of people curious about it so I'm here to help, or try to at least.
Notes:
1. I do NOT have windows. Running on a 64gb ssd mac so I wont be able to be bootcamping. I may have access to a windows PC here and there but my response may be slow.
2. I am on Korean time, so please be patient if I do not respond quickly.
3. I am an android/tablet/rooting NOOB. You must explain some of your complicated requests thoroughly.
Quick question. Can I root this baby? I heard installing rooting somehow messes up the screen for recovery mode.
*Added picture of settings
*Added picture of apps (in case you wanted to see what the korean version has to offer)
Random things:
1. For those saying pen memo is slow/horrible on 3.1, it is still slow/horrible on 3.2. I tried sketchbook mobile and my galaxy s2 is way more responsive.
Thank you for the awesome support, let me see the hope of 3.2. Waiting for developers wake up to see this.

d4mn...why some people get 3.2 update? hopefully samsung will release the update to all tab version..
We need you to use ADB to copy out the /system folder. Don't worry, the /system folder won't have any of your personal information in it. You don't need root to do this. The instructions are above, but the command is slightly different on mac. Let us know if you need help doing it - there are plenty of us that are good with ADB that can help out.
Samsung is so annoying. I would be happy with them if they just leaked these updates more effectively.
forget about samsung, that's what is great about xda, you can get early or unreleased versions thanks to all the great developers.
Aigoya, can you post a rom dump for us to mess around with? Then we can see if the standard root will work.

My mac isn't detecting my tablet with the steps that I followed. Pretty sure this is why people have been avoiding macs when rooting. I'll have to find a windows computer... somewhere...
Just download terminal emulator that's how I did to get a dump a dev required once
So just type your commands on terminal emulator and then just connect to your mac via remote wifi to extract the file and done
You don't need adb

Well, I'm avoiding root right now as I know that booting in recovery mode for the korean models has scrambled/unstable screens.
I attempted to pull the system from a windows computer but the PC wouldn't read my tablet. I dled the usb drivers from samsung page model for the model GT-P7510MAVXAB. (I couldn't locate any usb drivers from the Korean samsung m380w page. It only has a manual). And it wouldn't read the tab =|
Thanks for the attempts brother. Task650 posted up his 3.2 rom in the development section.
To start things off I have never rooted anything and am in need of serious help. I have the Acer a500 and I'm running ics 4.0.3 and cannot figure out how to downgrade to hc so I can root. After Rooting your device, you can use an application named 'Root Check.apk' to check weather your device is rooted or not. This apk is available in market.

Which update are you on?
Head over to Motorola's website, or better yet Google 'How to unlock RAZR m dev edition'. You will need ADB tools on a PC and some knowledge regarding rooting. Anyway, the Motorola website will provide a code to unlock your boot loader. Which you have to input via ADB. Than you can follow the rooting instructions on this forum. Be aware if you do it via Motorola's website you need to make an account with them.
I did this myself and it worked

Okay well the link that I had to instruct me on how to root my dev phone originally has disappeared :/ My best advice would be to try the exploit method, as the method that I did was what I consider a 'manual' way to root the phone as you must flash each package one after the other. Next best thing you could do is ask someone else on the forum. Sorry friend I will still upload the files that I used if you want to have a crack at it.
Flash the recovery image followed by the superuser one via ADB/Fastboot. Worked for me, best of luck.

So your still running stock? If so just go into your recovery and run a back up to internal or external storage. If internal than get it onto another storage location straight away. That way if you do in the future plan to flash a ROM you can go back to pure stock if you brick it.

Yeah, stock for now. I used to mess around with custom ROMs when I first got my Thunderbolt but I'm so much busier at work and trying to keep a girl in my life these days, lol... I'm not good enough at this stuff like you guys to do it quickly, takes me forever to read every post and trudge my way through the How-To's.
If I find the time, I'd love to run a stripped down, battery optimized, de-bloated ROM, something like that...
I did do a backup onto the SD card, I try to keep everything on the SD card. Bummed they make it so hard or not possible to run apps from it. Makes no sense to me but oh well..

No problem mate If you need a hand just ask. Also AOKP is quite good. It is probably the second best for battery that I've tried with CM10.1 being the highest, not including stock of course. I run it with themes and the such. Its quite smooth and clean to with not so many features which is good if you just want things simplistic. Let me know if you run into issues

Hi All I have been using various items on this forum and need to ask a few questions.
I have a rooted A500 and it has been Rooted since day one. But I got one from a neighbor that is stock with USB debugging off and When I try anything like update.zip on the SD card I get nothing but the Blue spinning and then on back with red triangle. I have no SBE or CPUID numbers and I have a lot of files from XDA and text I've been reading through but I thought I would see if someone could narrow the search to fixing this down to a more manageable project.
Thanks for anybody that has some input.

First thing u need is the cpuid/sbk.
See srbeen sticky how to using ubuntu....if u can't get that and the update.zip won't work, tab is toast.
Have u tried hc 3.1 full update and an ics update?

Hi There and thanks for the reply
I used your Various files and used everything I could from that folder. I also tried Acer A55 4.010.38 Com GEN 1 Full update
I've also tried the idea of plugging my working Acer in and then trying the bricked Acer. I'm thinking there may be no hope but am not prepared to give up just yet.
I was just beginning to look for the Ubuntu method when you replied.
I thank you for still being here to help with your insight. I never need halp on my rooted tablet I can always restore it.

I'd be tempted to try one of civato's pre rooted ICS stock roms - tab may have OTA'ed to ICS in which case the HC ones wont work, worth a crack

this one:
NEW ACER RELEASE AV041_A500_1.054.00_WW_GEN1 (DEODEXED AND ZIPALIGNED and a Original Odexed rom)
Ill give that a try. I was looking at that also but wasn't sure if it was a viable option in this state. His roms are all I use well and sometimes Thors also.

My thread (linked above) has some steps that worked for me as far as getting the CPUID and SBK was concerned.
Hopefully you will be able to recover more easily than myself.

Well no such luck but im not sure if' i did it right. I renamed it update .zip with only one zip and I'm not sure if that is right so I tried the compete file without renaming it and still no go.
