Check out Wug's Toolkit here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475
This is probably the easiest most noob friendly way, and there is lots of information provided as well in his FAQs.

Thanks it worked like a charm!
Okay I rooted my tablet, but how can I flash .zip files so I can install playstation mobile? I did install the CW mod when I clicked the root button. Do I just go to the boot loader and select recovery?
Yes you will boot into recovery to flash mods or new ROMs. Make a full backup first before you flash anything.
Yes it works :good:
Maybe you should add "resolved" to this topic
But if something was wrong, tell us.

Title says it all. I'm about to download the root kit for my Nexus 4, and I know I have to unlock the bootloader and then click "ROOT" but when I root, do I need to install CWM? What the heck is "busybox"? Do I need it?
Tonight I am planning to take the plunge and unlock the bootloader and root my Nexus 4 and Nexus 7, but I want to know what EXACTLY I need to install.
I'm planning to stay on the STOCK ROM, nothing else, so is it necessary to install CWM? What happens when I "root" the Nexus devices? When I rooted my Samsung Galaxy S3, it automatically installed Super SU... will it do the same for the Nexus devices?
Would love to get some answers, sorry for sounding like a noob xD
I'm new to this whole "Bootloader, busybox, root" thing for Nexus..
The terms are the same no matter what device you have. The steps to get them may vary from device to device.
There are already guides and 101s on the forum. Efrant made one. Read it. It was made for this very purpose
If you don't know how to root a device, you shouldn't have a nexus

I do know how to root, I did it to my other Android phone >.> I just wanted to know if it was any different for Nexus devices since most of the things are already accessible out of the box.
If you don't know how to answer my question, you shouldn't reply to my thread.

Hey there,
i bought a new nexus 10 and i want to root it.
what is the BEST guide to root the nexus?
thank you
yanov10,
You can go the toolkit route but you learn less and can get stuck and not know what to do.
So here is the manual How-To that I used "How to Root Nexus 10 on Win/Mac/Linux! [Step-by-Step VIDEO Tutorials]":
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1997227
If you really want to use a toolkit then go to the "Nexus 10 Android Development" section and search on "toolkit" to find one that works with your PC platform (Linux, Windows ...).

The unlocking step wipes your device so take not rooting as such.
If you unlock your device and don't flash another ROM, go into the recovery after unlocking and wipe the data partition through "factory reset" most Nexus 10s fail to boot after unlocked if you don't do that step

Sorry for sounding a noob but is rooting same as installing a custom firmware as Paranoid Android or similar? Or do you root your device and then install Paranoid Android?

yes, rooting is a necessary step before installing roms. Spend some time reading up on what rooting actually is/does, things will make more sense for you. Good luck
I rooted the other day.
I used Wug's toolkit:

Literally just follow the video. Can't go wrong. You should backup via Google and the toolkit too.

I found this thread
[NEXUS 10 TOOLKIT V1.3.0]
I guess, can the version from November 2012 be used for 4.2.2 Android?
As far as I see you only need to install the application, connect it to PC and go through steps as described and it will get rooted.
Can the old version (November) just root the device or you need to change any files in the app from later messages to work it properly with 4.2.2?
And maybe there's another way to quickly root the device?
All I need is a modified Google market, that is all. It needs rooting.
So, how most easily can you root 4.2.2 Nexus 10?
Just download WugFresh's Root Toolkithttp://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/. Its up to date and receives patches frequently.

Looking to root this thing so I can uninstall some bloat and install Xposed. I realize that it's not the best tablet but it was cheap and I wanted a tablet. I've installed roms and rooted various devices in the past but that's about as far as my knowledge pertaining to this sort of thing goes. I have no idea if this is the proper place to post for this but if it's not then please point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance for any help.

@andi1235 - We can successfully root our Ematic Android devices using the Kingo ROOT application for Windows. I learned about this tool from a post I found on Google+. Hope this tool will work for you, as it worked for me thus far.

Dear XDA members,
I'm very new to rooting/flashing/unlocking, so I'm sorry if I'm asking this questing when maybe 100 others already did, but I couldn't find the answer I'm looking for. I also searched in the topic of Heisenberg (http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3206928), but didn't find the answer, or I just maybe didn't understand it.
My questing is: is it necessary to root your Nexus 6p in order to load (or do you say flash) another ROM on it?
And do I understand it right that if you would like to root your device, you first need to unlock the bootloader in order to install a custom recovery, and after that you are able to install a custom ROM?
Hopefully somebody could answer this answer, thank you very much!
Best way to get into it and start to understand is to install Wugfresh Nexus toolkit.

Root has nothing to do with being able to flash a ROM, root means you have privileged access and system control on an already existing operating system, it plays no part in flashing partitions on your device. But yes, you must unlock your bootloader. In order to flash a ROM you need a custom recovery, and in order to flash a custom recovery you need an unlocked bootloader. If you need instructions or any help don't be afraid to ask in my thread:

I'd have to strongly disagree with you there, that's probably the worst way for a beginner to start out. Toolkits may seem convenient but they'll keep a beginner at the beginner level. They allow you to do things to your phone without actually knowing what's going on, without developing an understanding of the process. They allow a user to bypass some crucial learning experience, which in turn stops them from developing the knowledge and skills required to modify a phone. It's also these knowledge and skills that will get you out of hot water when something goes wrong. Then there's the issue of toolkits causing many problems for users. So no, I'd never recommend anyone use a toolkit to accomplish what what can be done very easily if you have a understanding of fastboot; this should be a basic requirement if you're messing with your phone.
