[Q] What should I do? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought my Note 3 (N900T) new from a kiosk at the mall in March of this year. I've never had an issue with it and love it.
Tonight while charging, it had gone to 100% but i left it plugged in. it just now rebooted and goes as far as the white loading screen and stays there and is getting very hot. I removed my data card and that didn't help. I can only restart it by removing the battery. should I take it back and try to get a replacement? I do have insurance for it. would just hate to lose all my files and pictures.
Thank you

Looks like it's a hardware fault.
Better if you go for the warranty.

My surround died last night

Like the title says... woke up to the HTC boot screen and it wont boot past it. I bought it on Nov. 18th so it has been 34 days and ATT will not replace it in store because it is 4 days past the return date. Warranty will cover it, but this is frustrating right before the holidays. BAck to the old Tilt2 I guess.
Watch out and always sync your pics and such to your zune software!
Woke up this morning, once again with a dead Surround. This was my replacement device that warranty covered from December. Another one is on the way from ATT, but I was wondering if there is some lemon law where I can get my money back or something? If my phone is going to keep dying every few months I don't want it.

in texas theres a lemon law but i dont know if you have one
The rep on the warranty line said after 2 or more FRU's they will negotiate a replacement device. Which is fine, as I may be negotiating for a different phone if this one dies.
Was it plugged in when it died?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
The first one died unplugged, moments after I woke up and shut my alarm off and unplugged it. The second one was plugged in and the bright white screen woke me up in the middle of the night. Both of them acted funny before they self-bricked, like forgetting my IE favorites and deleting some apps randomly.
I had this same problem. Replaced under warranty and so far I haven't had that same issue. I did have a different issue though, where it didn't read the whole memory properly as referenced in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916865
I'm worried this device is prone to failures, as I've now had two devices acting up. I'm trying to get AT&T to give me a different device, but they said I can only do same device exchanges under warranty.

They do in fact have a policy for device replacement for multiple FRU's. Meaning, if you are like me, and have already replaced two under warranty (meaning you are using your third device) if you have problems with the third they can negotiate an alternative device if it is still under warranty. Call the warranty exchange number over and over until you get someone who is knowledgeable and is willing to work with you. And keep calling with every complaint so they have it on file!
Good to know. I guess I'll just go and exchange it now and hope the next one either lasts forever or calls it quits ASAP. Warranty is running short these days :\
The warranty is one year from original purchase date or 90 days from activating the replacement device, whichever is longer.
My Surround also wouldnt boot up. happened last week. It was on my desk and not in use. I watched as it said goodbye and shut off. Battery drained and turned off, no big deal as I tend to let that happen before plugging it in for the night.. Only this time it wouldnt get past the white HTC screen. I did the whole volume button reset thing and still nothing. Ended up talking with HTC and getting it shipped to Texas to get it looked at. next day it was in the mail back home. Should be here in the next day or so.
Im curious to see if the paperwork will let me in on what happened. Although I sort of doubt it.
Awesome! I was under the impression it was just 90 days.
Talking about HTC Surround acting funny?
Well, mine likes too.
1. I used my phone as a alarm clock. Every night I connect it to the wall charger and leave it turned on resting on the night table. The next day guess what, I woke up late. The phone never sounded the alarm, in fact it won't make any sound at all. Have to reset it to return it to normal.
2. There have been a couple of times where I have not received calls in hours. When I press the power button to check the status, the phones goes throughout the complete power up sequence. But the phone was already powered on the last time I checked a couple hours ago and the battery is full. Its like it powered off by itself at anytime without warning!
3. Try to use the phone while charging and you'll notice touch screen response gets a a little jittery. But I found a "cure" for that. Hold your phone in away that your fingers make physical contact with the metal frame around the display. This will minimize the jittering effect on the touch screen.
4. Camera autofocus needs prescription lens. My HTC Surround digital camera have a hard time trying to focus on objects more than 15 feet away. It gives focus confirmation but the pictures always look blurry.
Those are some of the bugs I found in my HTC Surround purchased from AT&T last November. I'm sure they are not the only ones!
Those are known bugs, but seemingly have no correlation between devices randomly dying or not. My first surround had all those bugs and died, my second one showed little signs of any of those bugs and died anyways. Hoping my third one dies within warranty so I can get a new phone :/

Phone won't turn on. Flashes black when pressing power button.

I bought this phone, used, earlier this week. It was on the official GB update. So I downgraded to 2.2 and did the whole permroot and s-off procedure and loaded MIUI on it, which has been splendid the past few days.
But now the phone won't turn on. I replaced the beat screen protector with a new one from ebay, stealth shieldz from Prestige Solutions. It is a liquid solution screen protector. Anyway, I always turned my phones off prior to installation, keeping the battery in. I have never had a problem. But now with my MT4G, it won't turn on. It did turn on by accident and I pulled the battery out until I was finished with installation. Now it won't turn on.
I've read of bad emm (or whatever it is) chips. I read multiple solutions before posting. But what makes mine a different case is that the phone flashes black everytime I push the power button, or when I plug in the charger, sometimes staying black until I pull it out. I don't see any orange leds that indicate the phone may be bricked. Though, at this point, this case seems worse.
Any idea what the issue may be?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4RzxshjabM
Sounds bricked to me. Call HTC and possibly get a replacement for the bad eMMC chip.
It's funny. I went to the tmo store and they told me it was water damaged, using another battery. Plus, they said the water damage indicator on the phone was peeled off. So I go home and file an insurance claim. I now am expecting the refurbished replacement tomorrow.
Tell me why after I make the claim, like right after, the phone starts working? I don't regret making the claim because $130 for factory refurbished beats $180 and up for unknown Craigslist. And this phone is still water damaged and can die at any given moment. Already turned off once.
I am having a similar issue after a 2 foot drop of the phone. No physical damage on the outside but not sure about the internals. is there a way to start troubleshooting this issue and seeing what i can do to repair? I am so lost right now since this is the first major issue I have had iwth this phone. Since I can not get a screen and the boot into recovery via volume down and power is not working I am not sure what ican do.
It is most likely bricked. same thing happened to my girls. She dropped it and bricked..mine just bricked last week out of nowhere to....got replacement now....both had bad hips...new ones has good chip but bad screen

Nexus 4 won't boot. Red LED Flashing

I was playing around with my Nexus 4. It fell in a glass of water. I took it out within 2 seconds. Phone booted up and worked fine except Camera and the earpiece. Those started to work fine after around 5 hrs automatically. I flashed Stock Android 4.2.2 via Fastboot after everything was working fine. It failed while flashing bootloader and then the phone went completely blank. I did 30 mins of work and google search and I was trying all sorts of combinations and the phone booted by luck. After then it went in Blank many times showing *white* LED. I was always able to take it out of that by some combinations. Now the phone got stuck in bootloop. I switched off the phone and plugged it for charging. It charged upto 100%. My mom took my phone and locked in the cupboard (due to exams) I got it today (after 2 days) and when I try to boot then it just shows *Red* LED for some time and then goes off. If I plug it to a wall charger then the Red LED lasts merely a second.
Please help me guys.

Take out the battery and reinsert it,i have seen people complaining of red blinking led issue, but in their case, the phone shut down due to 0 battery, and when try to turn on by connecting wall charger, the issue showed up.If there's a possibility that the phone got completely discharged in cupboard(due to low or no signal),then that might be ur issue as well.

I am afraid taking out the battery. What if voided the phone ?
If the phone has been water damaged, warranty won't help you anyway so you haven't got anything to lose! Just a reminder, if you drop your phone in water, turn it off (take out the battery if possible) and put it in a bowl of rice for 12-48 hours to help dry it out, do not turn it on before then!

But it is already worked completely fine after around 5 days. I also instantly blew a hard dryer on it and it go to work. It shows no signs of Water Damage

The phone isn't really hard to take apart, I posted a video on YouTube a while back showing how to take apart the phone and replace the screen.

Will try then
I have a complete set of screw drivers. None worked on the Nexus 4 :/
Similar
Dropped phone in toilet. 2 seconds max. Didnt have luxery of a torque screw or pop open capabilities threw the N4 in bag of rice. 4 days later. it turns on and the screen looks fine, but auto shut down right when main screen loads. Checked for water damage on the inside: void stickers were pink, but phone seemed fine and no sign of water damage, until I took out the battery. it looked a bit damaged. I replaced it today and I am still getting the same issue. Right when I am taken past the Cyanogenmod loading screen, the main page loads and says "shutting off" or "powering down" whatever it says. The battery seems to always be between 16-18% also. Anyone ran into a situation like this or have any suggestions? please!!!! thanks!

[Q] Jump Start

Hi,
Forgive the next description. My son lost his phone "Samsung Galaxy Y GT-S5360" a while back and we found it a few months later buried in his bedroom under his bed LOL
Anyway I plugged it in to charge as could not turn it on and the phone screen lit up with the charge battery picture and the phone went dead. So I phone Samsung and they took it in for repair and they returned it to us and said it could not be repaired due to water damage.
So the phone was a brick, Anyway I have left it is the draw for a while and decided to take it apart to look for water damage and not find anything the only thing I could see was that the water sticker in it was a little pink but the X's were still intact. So I put the phone back together and hey it works. The phone was in a case from the day it was brought.
Well I have charged the battery fully and the phone works but in a strange way I have too Jump Start the phone buy plugging into the mains and then the phone will start and stay on all day, But every time it is turned off it resets the time to 00:00 01/01/2011
And then I have to jump start it all over again
It was returned with just a few weeks left in it first year so now it is out of warranty.. So was it water damaged or what or was it a case of Samsung cutting corners and just returning the phone..
Any Ideas
The resetting of date problem has been with me since the first day..so u guess its normal unless i am too ignorant to that prob. Btw, ur name give me more lolz than the bed incident you mentioned.

Galaxy S4 hard brick question

Hi!
I was hoping someone could help me determine if my phone is irreversibly damaged. I had it rooted with the stock rom and tonight it turned off once the battery died and won't respond to being plugged in. if i pull the battery and put it back in while it is not plugged in, the white screen flashes SAMSUNG in white letters briefly then turns off. It also turns off right away once i try to boot into recovery. the screen shows the android logo and the option to hit volume up or down like always but then immediately shuts off. Any help would be appreciated
It's not bricked, sounds like your battery took a dump. Take it into Sprint and have them replace the battery.

Some sprint workers don't care if its rooted. And its not against the policy. But its in the hands of the person attending you. If they say no you can't replace it. Walk out and go to another store
