Hi,
I'm a longtime iOS user that just bought a galaxy s5 to see if it was good for me, I however have been disappointed because of all the annoying software that comes preloaded that slows the phone down, I tried out a nexus 5 and loved it however I had received the international version which wouldn't work with Sprint, so I thought I'd try the S5 and I like it except I wish it was more like the nexus 5(non-laggy, etc...) so now I'm curious...is there anything out there that will turn the sgs5 basically into stock Android like nexus 5? How do I install them? I couldn't find any reliables build on cyanogenmod nor could I figure out how to backup in case I wanted to revert back to standard android that came with it...I don't know if I put enough research into finding what I'm looking for but I googled and read stuff that I didn't quite understand most of the day. Any help would be very appreciated.
Sorry to ask such a dumb question to those who are going to troll.
Search XDA for s5 debloat or similar, it will give you a list of what can be removed, and I think there are some debloat tools as well.
Try this on for size should be right up your alley http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2857451

Hi everyone,
I just switched from an iPhone 4 to an S4 and so far the experience has been great, however, I wanted to know if there's a way to run 'Pure Android' on it.
From what I THINK I know, Samsung's version of android has a bunch of pre-installed crap. Call me crazy but this bothers me, I just want a clean OS, and that's something I liked about iOS. I don't know if it has any other limitations, I haven't gotten that far into it yet, except from the home dock being locked.
Anyway, I'm a complete Android noob, but I can follow clear instructions.
Is it even possible to do what I'm after? Is there a clean, safe and fast way of doing it for somebody like me that doesn't know much about these things?
Also, I don't have access to a PC as I am a mac user.

If you can't wait for the Galaxy S4 Google Edition , why don't you just buy LG Google Nexus 4 instead of Galaxy S4 before that ?

The S4 is still pretty new so development is still picking up, but AOSP roms are supposed to give you that pure android experience. Cyanogenmod (CM), AOKP and others add some great tweaks and settings for further customizations. You can check the Original Android Development for Cyanogenmod and AOKP, but I would suggest you wait a while as things are still being improved. They should get more stable soon and have clean and clear installation methods.
Android differs from iOS in that you get a lot of customization options. Different people have different choices and android can be adapted for anyone. Some like the pure android experience and go for either a Nexus phone, which is pure android, or install an AOSP rom on their non-nexus phone.
Some people like Samsung's Touchwiz while others do not. Other roms add even further customizations, etc. Welcome to android..!
Well hello first I'm new here I was an iPhone user so I'm having problems with the whole OS that is Android I don't understand anything here, I bought a Galaxy S4 (M919) from T-Mobile cause I wanted to try something different and I tought the Galaxy S4 was the right choice for me, I don't want to regret switching to Android mainly because almost all the apps I used on my iPhone are not on Android I have looked so much for like tweaks or stuff like that that I used to do on my iPhone with cydia but I can't find anything, almost all the themes I find are so ugly well I come here to find help and make understand all the capabilitites of Android.
So I bought my phone from T-Mobile paid full price for it to get it unlocked unfortunately they haven't helped at all with unlocking it, I found a guide here that was dialing a number to go on service mode and change some settings I have tried this method so many times and it hasn't worked I even accidentally deleted the backup on the last step, I'm so lost I would appreciate some help on this matter.
I have been looking for ROMs mainly to help on battery life and movings app to my sd card any recommendations on which ROM should I pick and some guide on how to install it.
Any help intoducing me on the Android OS would be gladly appreciated and thanks for reading this.
Hello everyone. I don't have that many posts here, but please don't let that reflect me lol. I tend to trade phones a lot. I currently have a Verizon S4...I like the phone, but I am on the latest MK2 firmware...Here just recently, SafeStrap has became available. However, there is really 1 ROM that works right, and is stable, and that is Hyperdrive. Hyperdrive is a great ROM, I am not bashing at all. It's just not my cup of tea. In the past I have been a huge fan of Eclipse. Eclipse is not working with Safestrap at this time...I have had this phone for a couple of months, and it sucks waiting week after week hoping devs have made progress...Anywho, what can you guys tell me about the Note 3?
If I went to Verizon and picked one up, am I going to be able to root it and install a variety of roms, or am I going to be stuck like I am with the S4?
If I am going to be stuck like I am now, then that is definately going to make me choose a different phone. If so, could someone recommend one? I have been a huge fan of the Samsung phones here recently since the S3 and Note 2. I really liked my Note 2. I also really like Motorola's...They are durable phones, and safestrap is nice...Here recently SafeStrap has became available for Samsungs which is awesome.
Heads up !!the powers that be will move this thread to the q&a section.... but to answer if you want to crack flash...note 3 is not for you.....maybe moto x, or if you want a bigger device the Lg g2 has some good development.
One thing about the note3 is that you should be able to deal with the phone( stock )....and rooting it just to de bloat and themeing. The phone Is quick and Imo the spen and touchwiz are essential to this device! so asop roms are not happening.
hope this helps...good luck...
p.s. still stock Un rooted and kicking ass... coming from gnex!
You can checkout the ROMs section in the Note 3 forum to see the available ROMs. I come from an S3 and the choice of ROMs there was ample. Note 3 however has very few ROMs as opposed to the S3. However, the ones that are there are pretty good. I am on Beans ROM and it gives me everything that I want.
One important thing for me is the ability to use the PEN (Along with all the apps, SPEN, Scrap book etc). Beans gives me full features as far as the pen is concerned. I guess there are other ROMs as well that do it (Hyperdrive). But any new "Original" ROM development that happens for the Note 3, might have some limitations. if you are not a big user of the PEN, then it might not matter to you.
Nutshell, I love my Note 3 and the fact that I am running a non-stock ROM on it. Hope this helps.
Thanks guys! Well I glanced through the roms, but I don't know what firmware the note 2 comes with if I was to go get one right now. That being said, I wasn't sure if the one that it came with is rootable, or if it is locked tight like the s4...One rom specifically that I am looking for on the note 3 would be eclips....Without doing a bunch of research, I figured it would be easiest to just open a thread an ask, that way I got accurate information.
Oops, sorry about using the wrong forum.
most of what is considered roms these days are actually themes applied over the top of a stock rom. Those hundreds of roms you see for the S3 and Note2 can be easily achieved yourself with a couple of apps and a bit of know how. The Note3 has everything one needs. If you buy retail you can use safestrap and flash touchwiz roms only. If you buy a Developer Device, then you can flash AOSP or Touchwiz since the bootloader is unlocked. Also most everything in the T-mobile section N3 is compatible with the VZW DE N3, so there is actually alot of development going on if you look in the right places and do not expect silver spoon feeding on a platinum platter.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. I wasn't expecting to be spoon fed anything. I just don't get a good grasp on whats going on and have the device in my hand. I wanted to make sure that I could do what I was wanting to do with it before I went and bought this phone. I guess my one last question is, what is the firmware that will come with it, or what is the latest I should ask. Just so that I can check on my rom options.
Reason why I am asking this, is because the S4 was kind of confusing at first because devs are making mk2 roms, but they aren't working with ss...There are some other things as well, but thats beside the point. lol.
Moving to Q and A and closing... Best any more discussion goes here..http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2466108
Hi all,
Just got a Note 3 from swappable to finally retire my Galaxy Nexus and I have a few questions.
I'm actually okay with the stock "ROM" if you will as I've substituted the Google Now launcher for Samsung launcher.
I just want to root the device in order to enable tethering and for the ability to remove the bloat ware Verizon applications. Is this something that's possible or would I have to get a completely new ROM? For the record also I'm on 4.4.2 so I'm not even sure it's rootable.
Any ROM recommendations or anything else would also be appreciated.
Thanks!
Edit: it looks like eclipse may be the ROM I'm looking for. Any reviews would be appreciated
Eclipse ROM would be the way to go if you like the stock android look. Check out JasmineROM, I'm running it as my daily driver, it is a compete S5 port. Amazing battery and buttery smooth. Its in the development section.

If all you want to do is just get rid of bloat you can just root and use Titanium backup to get rid of it. If you wish to start using roms here's a quicklist I made to help someone which kinda gives you everything in one post....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55003142&postcount=3
Hey guys,
first of all I want to mention that I'm new to this forum so forgive me if I do or did anything wrong . Second I want to tell you a few things about me and my device so it's easier for you to provide efficient troubleshoot. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 - N910F for since it's release so about close to 3 years now. I'm familiar with simple things like like rooting the smartphone or creating backups and stuff like that, but I'm sure I will be able to perform some harder things too since I'm working in the technical support team of Apple but since there is a huge difference between iOS and Android I would say I'm a noob here .
I already searched for a solution using google and the search function of xda but couldn't find anything so I thought it would be best to create a thread myself.
What I want to do is delete the OS of my smartphone entirely and download the original or maybe a custom OS (I don't mind) and install it on my phone. I want to do this because I think my phone got old and doesnt perform so well anymore in many points, also the battery consumption got higher with time.
Thank you in advance!
Try do a factory reset first. If it doesn't work then, download the latest ROM for your version of Note4. Odin it to your phone.
