Reinstall Android on Galaxy Note 4 - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
first of all I want to mention that I'm new to this forum so forgive me if I do or did anything wrong . Second I want to tell you a few things about me and my device so it's easier for you to provide efficient troubleshoot. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 - N910F for since it's release so about close to 3 years now. I'm familiar with simple things like like rooting the smartphone or creating backups and stuff like that, but I'm sure I will be able to perform some harder things too since I'm working in the technical support team of Apple but since there is a huge difference between iOS and Android I would say I'm a noob here .
I already searched for a solution using google and the search function of xda but couldn't find anything so I thought it would be best to create a thread myself.
What I want to do is delete the OS of my smartphone entirely and download the original or maybe a custom OS (I don't mind) and install it on my phone. I want to do this because I think my phone got old and doesnt perform so well anymore in many points, also the battery consumption got higher with time.
Thank you in advance!

Try do a factory reset first. If it doesn't work then, download the latest ROM for your version of Note4. Odin it to your phone.

New To Android (Galaxy S3)

Well, I have been an iphone user for the last few years and finally made the switch. I customize everything, so I'm use to using Cydia and Winterboard. I have no idea if there is anything comparable.
So, my question is... As a beginner on this platform, where do I even start looking besides here to find out what I can do with rooting my phone, creating themes, or custom apps and tweaks.
Like I said, I'm very new too this, and have no idea where to look. I've tried searching, but some of the terms i'm not familiar with yet. The nice thing that I can see right now, is the reason's I jailbroke my iphone, the S3 does already, or I have figured out an easy alternative.
Any help in the right direction would be great! So far, I'm really glad I got rid of the iphone

XDA is probably the best source, but there are certainly plenty of other xda-like sites out there. RootzWiki is probably the biggest, but it seems like a handful of new ones pop up every day.
On top of that, I'd say try the obvious... google it! If you google something like "what can i do with my rooted android phone" you'll find a lot of good suggestions (articles by tech sites, as well as forum threads from people who have asked the same questions as you). Keep in mind though, Android advances pretty fast, and all phones are a little different so not everything you find may be relevant anymore. Example: You may find something that says screenshots are a good reason to root... but that's a standard feature now in ICS, and Samsung phones could do it all along. So just keep that in mind... some things you may find may be out of date.
Hey welcome to android. I too made the switch over a year ago and that's when I became a member here. I spent the better part of that sifting through all this site has to offer. I started with the captivate when the rooms for it were at their prime and I have upgraded to the s3. I don't know all there is to know about this stuff but I have not wrecked my phones yet. So with all that said I would recommend getting yourself familiar by reading the stickies. They some very nice tutorials. Also if your not sure about something qna section is good. Once you get the hang of all this you will see exactly why android is true open source. Jailbreaking for me got boring but rooting and flashing roms is always interesting. This site also has very friendly developers that love doing this stuff so that's also a huge help. Last but not least don't be afraid to ask. It may mean the difference between an awesome phone and nice looking paper weight from Korea

The great thing about Android is because you can do anything on it right out of the box compared to you having to jailbreak an iphone. Id suggest just going through different apps and what not in the app store and see what catches your eye
Honestly, I would recommend that you spend some serious time getting to know android and understanding all of the capabilities of your phone before you even consider rooting it (not to mention flashing a new ROM.
I am a long time Android user that has rooted and flashed many ROM's over the years, but the S3 is so good out of the box (imho) that I personally have no need or desire to even root it at this point. That may change in the future, but that's where I stand right now.
I guess my advice would be ... don't be in a huge hurry to start making massive changes to the device until you understand what you have. No need to risk killing that shiny new toy (yet).

Welcome,
Another source to check out is YouTube.

Welcome. I think maybe figure out what you'd like to do that you haven't figured out yet and search on xda or even Google. Its possible you may not need to root to achieve it. I root only to restore app plus its data from one android phone to the next. Without root it only restores app so for example with games it won't restore where I left of in the other device.

[Q] New Android User Having A Lot Of Problems

Well hello first I'm new here I was an iPhone user so I'm having problems with the whole OS that is Android I don't understand anything here, I bought a Galaxy S4 (M919) from T-Mobile cause I wanted to try something different and I tought the Galaxy S4 was the right choice for me, I don't want to regret switching to Android mainly because almost all the apps I used on my iPhone are not on Android I have looked so much for like tweaks or stuff like that that I used to do on my iPhone with cydia but I can't find anything, almost all the themes I find are so ugly well I come here to find help and make understand all the capabilitites of Android.
So I bought my phone from T-Mobile paid full price for it to get it unlocked unfortunately they haven't helped at all with unlocking it, I found a guide here that was dialing a number to go on service mode and change some settings I have tried this method so many times and it hasn't worked I even accidentally deleted the backup on the last step, I'm so lost I would appreciate some help on this matter.
I have been looking for ROMs mainly to help on battery life and movings app to my sd card any recommendations on which ROM should I pick and some guide on how to install it.
Any help intoducing me on the Android OS would be gladly appreciated and thanks for reading this.

Rooting Galaxy Tab 10.1

Hi,
As thousands before me already have asked I've never really found a direct answer for my next question... Maybe because it was never asked this way:
1). What is the pros and cons for rooting Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (P7500)?
Basically everything you can think of, put into boxes of good and bad things about it.
2). What ROM would you recommend using IF I was to root my tablet?
I really only know about Cyanogen mod, however I've heard that theres many other just as good or maybe better ROMs too.
3). Could you provide a link to a good and simple guide how to root my tablet IF that is what I end up doing. And ofcourse a link to your recommended ROM.
Last but not least; I know rooting breaks the warranty of my product, however my products warranty has already ran out so this "concern" is already out of the picture.
Thank you very much in advance .
Best regards
Patrick / Delithralas
So noone has anything to say regarding above mentioned? Surely someone must have an input and an idea

Well, as you might know rooting your device and installing a custom-ROM are two different things. While 'rooting' gives you as a normal user access to the superuser-account and thus enableing you to do things that only the superuser can and should do on your device, installing a new ROM can give you a new operating-system.
If you don't use apps that require root, there is no need for rooting your device. Most probably you might wanna use something like Titanium-Backup or something like that...
As for custom-ROMs you should remember that the galaxy tab 10.1 is EOL for a long time now, so recent development is getting thin...
For a nice KitKat-build you might wanna take a look here...

Setting out to create a perfect Nexus 5 (need help though)

Used an ipod touch 4 (my first mobile device) for 2 years and loved ios jailbreaking... heard a lot about android's openness for customization (especially after rooting) and finally got a Nexus 5. This is the first time I have owned an Android device and have had it for a month. Have rooted the phone and installed various apps like XPosed framework...
What I need help with is deciding whether to install a custom rom and kernel...for rom the best option is cyanogenmod (according to me)(atleast from what i found in this short 1 month) and I cant seem to find a feature in this rom that xposed especially with modules like gravity box dosent offer... if there are some features that make cyanogenmod awesome please tell me.
Me personally and from what I have read all Nexus 5 owners have reported battery issues and I came to know that Android community is passionate to make custom kernels to take matters into its own hands to improve battery and performance.... but this is something I hardly know about since accessing the kernel is a dream in ios and i am new to Android... plus various forums say that kernels can even fry your hardware if u make mistakes and no one wants that.
So ultimately the main thing i need help in is deciding which rom to install (mainly cyanogenmod), and if I even need to install it. Second which kernel to install and is it worth it, performance is already enough with the stock kernel and battery life is the main concern and some added features like double tap to wake are always welcome.
After finding out these things then I want to get down to small things, please help me since I am an inexperienced Android user.... and i dont want to harm the device since companies are not keen to fix or replace device in my country India.
Finally if I broke any forum rules in this post please tell me in a post.... please dont deactivate this forum just tell me and I will fix it (again I am new to XDA).
I cant code but we can make a list of best apps to install on a Nexus 5 to make it a perfect device (root).

Stock / Non Annoying Android?

Hi,
I'm a longtime iOS user that just bought a galaxy s5 to see if it was good for me, I however have been disappointed because of all the annoying software that comes preloaded that slows the phone down, I tried out a nexus 5 and loved it however I had received the international version which wouldn't work with Sprint, so I thought I'd try the S5 and I like it except I wish it was more like the nexus 5(non-laggy, etc...) so now I'm curious...is there anything out there that will turn the sgs5 basically into stock Android like nexus 5? How do I install them? I couldn't find any reliables build on cyanogenmod nor could I figure out how to backup in case I wanted to revert back to standard android that came with it...I don't know if I put enough research into finding what I'm looking for but I googled and read stuff that I didn't quite understand most of the day. Any help would be very appreciated.
Sorry to ask such a dumb question to those who are going to troll.
Search XDA for s5 debloat or similar, it will give you a list of what can be removed, and I think there are some debloat tools as well.
Try this on for size should be right up your alley http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2857451
