I have a problem charging my phone at the car. When I connect the phone to the charger, the charging is constantly switching on and off draining the battery in minutes. I tried other devices and they are being charged fine. The phone itself charges from the wall socket without any problems. I just wonder what the problem is. I am attaching a log in case someone could take a look.
Actually, if I plug in the phone to the car charger, it discharges rather than charges even if it is turned off.
have you tried another car charger to rule that out? if you dont have another one try borrowing one from a friend or something to test it out. i had a similar problem with my N4 and a new car charger resolved it.

I dont think it'd be a problem of your phone. If the phone is charging okay with the wall socket charger then your phone is fine. I'd suggest trying out another car charger.
Looks like it was a problem with the cable. It is not from N4 and used to hold fine but now it seems a bit loose. Thanks a lot, everyone, for suggestions.

Very strange problem , can not charge my Atom with the AC charger, the stupid charger charges my Imate JAMin, and JAMin charger wont charge my Atom,
The funny thing is it charges fine through pc usb
any ideas.
i have exactly the same problem, did u end up figuring it out?? its driving me nuts
I had this issue also, this time with a ghetto charger (that comes with a port for plugging in your USB cables). The ghetto charger works on my Mini, but the Atom stops after 5 seconds. Only the charger that came with the Atom works on it.
Unfortunately, there's no solution for this. Quanta apparently had this safety-locked just like Motorola did their RAZR series.
found out that motorola v3 razor charger could actually charge your atom, thx for your help
LOL... I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT. THE EXACT SAME CHARGER LOCK MECHANISM. >_>
Really? Does it charge as fast as the original charger? Can the original charger be used on a MotoRAZR? This is a very nice hack, tho not quite as useful as some might hope. <_<
im not sure if it would work the other way around, i cant see why not.
charging speed is about the same, but don't quote me on that one
cheers
to cause a short circuit on the plug pins, haha,it will be ok
hi all,
i am encountering another problem... opposite from wats happening to u all. my usb is not charging my atom exec when the battery is 35% or lower...
does anyone encounter the same problem?
I have a tytn and had the same problem, can charge and sync thru usb but no luck with the ac-charger. Thou yesterday i noticed if i leave it on in the ac-charger long enough it actually starts charging. Weird but i've tried and it really worked the cpl of times i tried. It takes about a minute or two before the led turn orange.
Same problem here. It charges on USB but not on my original AC charger. Has anyone already found the reason for this?
We have generic and "öther brand" branded chargers here in the Philippines. I've experienced the same problems both with the AC and Car Chargers here until I used a voltage regulator for the AC charger and a motorola car charger. Those that worked with my xda2 doesn't work with my atom. My advise to those with the same problem is to either buy a motorola AC or Car Charger whichever you need or use a voltage regulator in tandem with your original AC charger. If your PC USB doesn't charge while syncing with your PC, format your PC. Chances are, it's too cluttered already.
Hope this helps
how come it says in the manual that while charging the atom, it will display an amber/orange light?mine is displaying a red light?and i am encountering the same problem when charging. it charges for 5seconds and it will stop. the battery indicator displays a full bar.but it is not actually charged.can someone post the specification of the original charger that came with the package?i just bought a new charger here in singapore since i left my charger in the philippines.and the original charger that i got is for atom stealth. will it be okay?
Has anyone come up for a fix for the car charger issue?
The first time or two after a soft reset, the phone will work properly with a car charger. Plug and unplug it it a couple of times and then subsequent attempts to charge it off of the car charge will not activate the charging circuit.
I have to soft reboot to get the car charger to work again. Very frustrating, and probably the top most frustrating issue I have with this phone.
same thing here, i thought it was just my car charger. weird.
I think this may be due to the current being right on the lower limit.
Try turning phone onto standyby or off for car charging.
Not much help if using it as sat nav tho.
I had the same issue... untill I got a the genuine car charger

Yes best advice is use an approved charger as there are earthing issues with several others that give kids of issues reported here.

I've got a wing with charging issues. I was wondering if someone with a wing could test something for me.
Will the wing run if it's plugged into the wall charger, and then has the battery removed?
Will the wing stay running in standby, plugged in, and has the battery removed, replaced, then is brought out of standby?
My wing recognizes when it's plugged in but instead of saying "charging" in power it just says A/C Only and continues to drain the battery. Also the red (Orange?) charging led does not light up. It's odd, and I would like some help with the above questions to try and ascertain what may be the problem.
Thanks!
Wall charger and then battery removed- Yes
Standby, plugin, battery removed/replaced, out of standby- yes
Its possible that your wall charger is not supplying enough power to the device to get it have a positive charge deficit on the battery drain. This might happen if the circuit is already full of other things or if you are plugging it into a power strip or surge protector.
Thank you very much for your time. I tried it in two outlets with nothing else in them and no dice. The charger is rated at 5v 1000ma so it shouldn't have trouble. Is the OEM charger made by delta?
It charges my other phones with a miniusb connector fine though, and I've tried two chargers on my wing. I think it's either the battery or something wrong with the phone.
One last thing, with the phone off and no battery in, will it start up when plugged in?
Thanks!
when i say that the wall is not supplying enough power, i'm saying that the cannot physically supply the kind of power that the wing needs to get charging. Its not really a matter of the charging unit or anything.
try (believe me this is a definitive test) going into a completely empty house and plugging your device in. If it doesnt charge, its probably hardware related.
By the way, it WILL start when plugged in. At least normally, i do believe.

Are any of the chargers you tried specifially made to charge the wing? I used to have a razr and figured that car charger would work since it has the same miniusb but it does not charge my phone.
Just a thought.
Turns out i was wrong
if you take out the battery while plugged in, the phone will turn off.
Therefore i assume i was wrong about everything else too.
But seriously, i have no idea why it wouldnt charge. Call'em up and you might get a free replacement. I did (not for this issue though)
Oh! That makes me feel a little better. I've got what I think is an oem charger (If anyone else has a oem one, see if it's made by delta, if not then the guy who sold this to me may have given me the wrong charger) but I don't understand why it wouldn't charge off my computer back when it was at 70% either.
I've got a new battery coming in, so if that doesn't fix it I'll call em up.

Try to charge the phone while it's off. If the orange light goes on, then it should be charging.
Hi i have an odd problem my HD2 wont charge while in the car i am using the lusb lead that came with the phone plugged into a cigarette lighter adaptor with USB port. I know the lead is ok because it charges when plugged into my laptop and i know the cigarette adaptor is ok because it charges my ipod when connected, but my hd2 just wont charge. I have tried turning of bluetooth wifi well everything that can be just to check it was not using more power than it was geting but no joy. The HD2 does sy it is charging and the battery indicator changes to show this too but the battery percentage goes down. Any ideas.

I would try a different cig adapter. That's likely the issue. Check the mA rating.
thanks will order a new one from ebay
have you got your phone set to 'do not charge when connected to the pc'? because if so then the phone is seeing teh charger as a computer and not charging.
You may want to check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=643808 where I asked the same question and answered myself after a while, making it into a tutorial
HD2 Charging issue with 1500mAh battery
Following problem:
Got a second 1500mAh battery, the problem with it I can't charge it when the device is ON; When the phone is turned OFF, the battery will charge normally! The original HD2 battery is working fine.
Anybody experiencing the same problem?
I haven't seen anyone else complain about this, so it might just be a small defect or isolated incident.
I always charge my phone during the night while I sleep and just recently woke up to find the phone only at ~70%. For some reason the AC adapter seems to be malfunctioning. Since the issue has started, I managed to get it to charge to full one night, but the rest of the time it seems to stop charging. It recognizes it being plugged in initially but then it pops up with the notification saying that the charger has been unplugged. I've tried reconnecting both connectors which will sometimes get it to start charging for 15-30 seconds before it shows as disconnected again.
It works fine via USB connected to a computer so I can only assume it's an issue with the wall adapter. I'm not sure if there's much I can do if it is an issue with the adapter but wanted to see if anyone had any ideas that would be worth trying before I give up on the adapter. Also wondering if anyone else has had this happen.
I don't have that problem. Call and get it replaced. All you news is a USB AC adapter.
Have you checked the socket you are plugging the charger into? Have you tried a different wall socket or socket on the power strip?
Are you using a Motorola brand wall outlet and usb? I was using an aftermarket cable and had this issue. So I got a branded cable and now it's fine
Sent from my iPhone killer ATRIX using XDA Premium App
i had same issues
my atrix would only charge also to 70% so i was about to return it. i forgot that it also came with a stand alone battery charger to charge just the battery. charged it and then put it on my atrix and said 100% again. hope this helps..
Yeah get the wall socket and make sure that's not the problem. Also I can't imagine it being the cable I use a 15 foot after market cheapo cable I got off newegg for like 3 bucks and it charges my phone all the way and I don't even use the wall adapter moto gave me I use some random one that's for one of my old phone or my nikon camera I don't remember. Also moto cable is crap it doesn't let me use adb doesn't seem to push enough power to my phone.
But thats just my 2 cents

OEM charging cables > aftermarket/cheapo/gas station cables

Use the cables that come with the atrix.
Problem solved.
