Charger issue - Atrix 4G General

I haven't seen anyone else complain about this, so it might just be a small defect or isolated incident.
I always charge my phone during the night while I sleep and just recently woke up to find the phone only at ~70%. For some reason the AC adapter seems to be malfunctioning. Since the issue has started, I managed to get it to charge to full one night, but the rest of the time it seems to stop charging. It recognizes it being plugged in initially but then it pops up with the notification saying that the charger has been unplugged. I've tried reconnecting both connectors which will sometimes get it to start charging for 15-30 seconds before it shows as disconnected again.
It works fine via USB connected to a computer so I can only assume it's an issue with the wall adapter. I'm not sure if there's much I can do if it is an issue with the adapter but wanted to see if anyone had any ideas that would be worth trying before I give up on the adapter. Also wondering if anyone else has had this happen.

I don't have that problem. Call and get it replaced. All you news is a USB AC adapter.

Have you checked the socket you are plugging the charger into? Have you tried a different wall socket or socket on the power strip?

Are you using a Motorola brand wall outlet and usb? I was using an aftermarket cable and had this issue. So I got a branded cable and now it's fine

i had same issues
my atrix would only charge also to 70% so i was about to return it. i forgot that it also came with a stand alone battery charger to charge just the battery. charged it and then put it on my atrix and said 100% again. hope this helps..

Yeah get the wall socket and make sure that's not the problem. Also I can't imagine it being the cable I use a 15 foot after market cheapo cable I got off newegg for like 3 bucks and it charges my phone all the way and I don't even use the wall adapter moto gave me I use some random one that's for one of my old phone or my nikon camera I don't remember. Also moto cable is crap it doesn't let me use adb doesn't seem to push enough power to my phone.
But thats just my 2 cents

[Q] Charging issue!

I'm on a road trip now and every time I connect the phone to a charger it switches it self off.
I have tried different cables and chargers. This also happens if I connect it to my Mac.
Is anyone else seeing this?
Thank you
Funny you should post this, today is the first day at work with my DVP and I tried to use a USB cable connected to my pc that charges my HD2 and SE MW600 headset, connected it to the Dell and it turned off just like you say. Probably not enough voltage/amps, I borrowed a BlackBerry charger and that works fine.

I noted this in my "Nit-picky" stuff post. Needs a 1Amp charger.
Same here.
The only charger that worked is the one that came with the DVP.
I tried the 1A iP4 charger, 750 mA of the Kindle, a third party dual 1A (each) charger, 1A car charger, 2.5A iPad charger and finally my computer.
None of these works, but if it has like 50% charge then it charges with any of the above...

No...thats not true....But I have seen several different combinations work.
I have the Nexus 1, one of the Jawbone headsets, the HD2, HD7, DVP, and have access to the Focus and LG devices. All of these use the same type of cable.
The HDx cables, the Focus cable, and the Jawbones cables all work with sync and Charging. The LG cable does not...only works for the LG. Some of the older BB cables will only provide a sync or a charge...but not both.
The different USB charging adapters have different results also.
The DELL and HD7 adapter will work. They will work plugged into a wall or a power strip. The jawbone and HD2 usb adapter will not work plugged into a power strip at home, but, both of them will work plugged directly into a wall.
All the cables I have will work when plugged into a laptop, EXCEPT the LG. Apparently the LG cable I have access to only works with an LG.
Now to be honest, the HD7 shows no such reluctance to charge with any combination. The DVP does. My DVP does NOT require DELL only parts, but it is picky about what it will play with.
-My overnight charger is connected directly to the wall. It is a jawbone wired charger, no adapters or usb. All phones connect and charge ok with this.
-My Work office charger is a HD2 usb adapter with the HD2 charger cable.( which is strange because this one will not work at home plugged into a power strip.)
-My HOme office currently uses the Dell adapter plugged into a power strip with a generic sync cable. I say generic because I don't recall where it comes from...all I know its not the DVP or the HD7, because both of those cables are still wrapped up in the box they came with.
-My car charger is an ATT dual USB charger. It has last years model adapter, plus a USB connection. All my phones and head sets charge off of this combination quite nicely. I also have a Tmobile care charger but have not tested it yet.
There is definitely something different about the DVP and charging. I'm hoping Nicolas Cage will play the lead when this conspiracy is made into a movie.
the DVP will only charge with a 1A+ charger. the ones that come with BT headsets don't feed it enough to charge. USB cable plugged into a laptop USB port is hit or miss. The USB port in my car is 1.5A, charges the DVP really quick. I haven't found the make of the cable an issue, the DVP charges with any I've come across so far, HTC, BB, the cheap extendable cable from an airport, etc. it is picky about amps.
The cable is not the problem. I didn't mean that when I plug different cables it does not charge.
I have a charger hub which I connected many phones to it, HD2, palm pre, nexus one and few more and all of them charge from it. When I connect the DVP it shows its charging but in the morning the phone is dead, no charge at all.
BTW, it does charge from my laptop and desktop.
I charge my phone overnight on my PC and never had this issue

I can't get mine to charge now at ALL..
Apparently it drained and shut off in my pocket. Went to charge like I normally do.. and NOTHING..
I noticed a weird behavior yesterday when charging it would jump from charging to not charging to charging. While sitting on my table. NO MOVEMENT to the cord or anything.
Tried Dell charger, tried aftermarket one (that I have been using for 2 months), and PC USB no response from the phone at all. Even tried to swap to a battery I know was low but not dead. Still no response from the phone.
The connection looks good.. but I am thinking maybe I am having a problem with the connector in the phone ?
Took my sons battery out (He also has a DVP) and booted my phone. Plugged it in and it started to charge. Then hot swapped batteries while it was plugged in.. let the battery charge up to 25% and now it charges fine again..
FUNNY it won't boot or charge while plugged in with a dead battery.. but will stay on if booted up and you remove the battery in it..

EVO Charging issues

Please dont shoot me, I dont really know a lot about phones and didn't know where else to go. I dint have much luck on my specific issue when I googled it.
Anyway last Thursday I noticed that my EVO was not charging in my truck. My charger is one of those Igo chargers with the changeable tips. Then I get to work where I have the USB cord plugged into the wall socket adapter and noticed that it was not charging my phone. So I pulled the cord from the adapter and plugged the USB end into the computer....nothing.
I went home and plugged my phone into my wife's charger for her Epic and it charges just fine. I plugged her phone in my truck charger and it charged just fine. One of my coworkers also has an EVO so I plugged his EVO into my charger at work and it works from the socket and from the computer....
Took the phone to the Sprint store thinking its a bad charging port or something, well they wont work on my phone since it has Cyanogen on it. But they did plug it up to there charger and it charged just fine.
What should I do? I want to go back to a stock ROM and take it back to Sprint but since the USB port is not working for me I dont know how. For some reason when I go into restore and try to flash back there are no files!! I dont know what to do. I noticed that ROM Manager has a "Stock and Radios" section...but is this were I need to be? Any help would be GREAT!
When you plug it in to one of the charges that works, do you see the battery icon change to the one with the lightning bolt superimposed?
Yes. When I plug it into my wifes charger for her Epic 4G it charges normally also when Sprint did it, it also had the orange solid light on with the lightning in teh battery icon.
I've been having problems with all the adapters. The only way I can get a consistent charge is to plug the phone in with the cable instead of the docks I normally use. This morning I was using my phone plugged in and the cable touched the screen of my iPad and was registering as a touch. I think perhaps some of the shielding is bad on the cable. I'm going to try getting a new cable, maybe you should too!
I had the same issue, it was the usb cable. I was using a black berry wall charger and think the plug is slightly bigger and stretched the port. Used the HTC cable and it failed. Paid a dollar on amazon to buy a black berry usb and now works with out issue. If you push up or down gently on the cable, does it work?
No, moving the cable does nothing. I will say there is nothing wrong with the chargers because my wifes phone charges on my car charger but mine does not. My buddies phone charges on my work charger but mine does not. He also brought me his charger, again his charges mine does not.
My wife has the Epic 4G
My buddy has the EVO 4G
I have the EVO 4G
My phone will however charge on my wife's charger and when I took it to the Sprint store it charged fine on there charger.
Wow I am having a very similar issue (and there's a thread on it).
I thought it was the kernel I flashed but now I'm not so sure. My data cable works but no other charger I've tried works.
Maybe EVOs only last a year? lol It seems like several people are having very similar problems all of a sudden.
I had the same problem. I bought a gold tipped cable from radio shack. Haven't had the problem since.
I just think its so strange that my EVO stopped charging on two different chargers in the same day.
Same thing happend to my phone couple days ago. it sucks!

Charging without Samsung AC Adapter?

I went out of town this week and made sure to grab my USB cable, but left the AC adapter at home figuring I'd just charge off my laptop via usb. Apparently not... I also tried plugging the USB cord into my iPhone AC/usb adapter with no luck. The only thing I've found is that when you turn off the Tab and connect to one of these devices, a green battery indicator will pop up showing that it is charging. Well, after about 16 hours, it made it from 15% all the way up to 48%. Does anyone know any way around turning it off to charge or why it is barely charging when it is off?

Well seeing as it has a 7000mAh battery, just about any run-of-the-mill USB charger isn't going to cut it. The amperage would have higher as well. Now i would hazard that an iPad charger (10 watts) would probably work just fine vs an iPod charger.
Your laptop's USB port isn't providing enough juice to charge fully. With the screen off it will only trickle charge and very slowly at that.
You'll need at least 5 Volt 2 Amp chargers.
You can also try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14890063&postcount=16
Or this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/190522553195?ru...ee-All-Categories&_fvi=1&_rdc=1#ht_3085wt_905
I've ordered both last week but neither have arrived yet. I'll report back.
You need a 5vdc supply that will provide 2A. 10W, not 5w as the previous post said. That adapter on ebay won't help the charge, it just disconnects the data line so it does not change its mode when connected to a computer. There are a lot of power supplies that will work and even more that won't, just made sure it supplies 2a. If you want to charge off your laptop then you will want a Y adapter similar to what is on usb powered hard drives but even then you will need to use 2 usb 2.0 or 3.0 ports and will provably only get 1a out.

Transformer stuck with "Connect your Charger", charging slowly

Hello.
I m having a problem with my transformer. Right now it is charging slow as if it was connected to the computer and not the wall plug. Also the message "Connect your Charger" won't go out of the screen, even if it is connected or fully charged. I flashed a custom ROM to see if it fixed something, but I had no luck. The cable works fine to connect the transformer o my PC the only thing wrong is that is is not charging properly and the message won't go off. Do you have any idea of what could be happening? My wall charger is model OB-1LF, which I believe is not the one with the known fault. Any ideas?
the adapter is surely broken.
This will sound nuts but, put your wall charger in a plastic baggie [push out all the air and then seal the bag] and put it in your freezer compartment for say 3hrs. Take it out [still in the bag] and let the charger warm up to room temp.
The charger may now work. It is worth a try. You would be trying to be sure the thermal fuse inside the charger is reset. I brought one back to life that way.

the TF uses pin 7 in the USB connector to signal the charger to use the 15v output. If the charger does not see a gnd on pin7 it will only charge at 5V as ypou are seeing. Are you using an extension usb cable? If no then check the pins on the TF and cable for bent or damaged pins. Also try the freezer as the charger may have gone into safety reset.
Thanks for the answers. I will try the bag and freezer to see if it gets fixed.
I know that this freezer trick works (also with broken hard drives too apparently), but what's the physical reasoning behind it? I swear I've seen a good explanation of it before but I can't remember..
Same problem here... Even had the charger replaced but of no use. It does charge wth a different (do it yourself) charger usig the same cable.Maybe that doesn't have the 5v/12v mode or something...
Going to order a new adapter and hope thatll fix it otherwise I'll send the entire transformer for repair i guess :/
I just got one today (got a good price on Amazon)
it just will not charge, tried all the fixes! not too happy as i went for the asus over the ipad and apparently quite a few people have charging issues with it.
charges very slowly through my laptop
From reading posts on forums is sounds like a few people are having it and Asus should of recalled the charger.
phone call to Asus tomorrow

There is overtemp protection circuit that should reset once the charger cools, but apparently it needs to cool down past room temp. The freezer is cold enough to reset it. I would not buy a new TF charger search for devcakes discussion there several aftermarket chargers that work well
Check the cable. I had the same problem. At first I thought it was because of faulty charger and had it returned and got a new one from Asus, but still had the same issue. Then I returned the cable for a new one, it worked flawlessly.
A plus: Asus gave me new cable which was much longer than the original one.
the cable is fine, used it to charge via my laptop
I had the same issue with my charger. I called up Asus and was able to send it in for repair, after a couple days they mailed me a new charger and cable.

Charging with your laptop does not involve pin 7 and supplies 5V. If pin 7 or that conductor is bad or you use an incorrect USB extension cable, the pin 7 signal will not get to the charger and will not supply the 15V charge voltage for normal charge.

Cheers will send the cable as well to be sure but am pretty confident its the power adapter.
Hopefully i will have an adapter for next week.
I had a brief play on it and i was quite impressed, the stock browser was surprinsignly good and may unistall dolphin.
I tried the freezer trick, but it didn't worked. I ordered another wall charger to see if it works. What's really weird about this is that the Connect your Charger message will not go off the screen. It doesn't matter if it has 100% charge it will still show "Connect your Charger".
In my case my Transformer didn't want to charge at all. The red light never came up while connected, the only way to fix it was to drain my Transformer all the way until shutdown and then plug it in and voila! It started charging again ever dince.
Great tips by the way!
Thanks

Just an update, after ordering a new adapter (with cable) it now works... Appearantly the cable was the problem afterall...
New cable with old charger = ok, new cable with new charger = ok, old cable with new charger = no go, old cable with old charger = no go.
And old cable with 3rd party adapter supplying 12V = ok, heh...
New cable is longer indeed, now I just need to think if I wanna go through the RMA process again for the old cable. But yeah, cable was the issue (out of nowhere btw).

The Pin 7 Connection I referenced earlier is bad. This prevents the charger from outputting 15V.

Yeah, I read your posts about that... couldn't see anything wrong with it on the outside though (with my eye) so unfortunately no clearly bent usb-pins or anything.
Any tips on things I can check? Could easily be on the inside as well of course in which case I can just forget about fixing it. At least it still works with another (non asus) adapter.
Mine was also doing a slow trickle charge. I ended up getting a new charger, but found that the problem was with the cable, not the "wall wart". I can still use my old one with the new cable and works fine as well.

Charging Problem

I am having trouble charging my tablet. When the tablet is on, I am unable to charge with either the POGO or USB cable. I have also tried other wall chargers for cell phones. I was not using any roms, but had tried out the ktmantra kernel. I have since wiped my tablet using a factory 4.2.2 image from google and am still having the charging problem.
The only way I am able to charge is by charging with the tablet off. It also takes ages to charge (12+hours). Any ideas on what could be causing this? When I plug the POGO cable in, it says it is charging, but the battery percentage continues to drop.

I've readed some comment on another forum from an user that has the same proble, but for him it takes about 10h. Not sure what's wrong.
Are you not able to charge at all or just very slowly? I just noticed that my Nexus is charging very slowly with the Pogo cable I purchased. I may try going back to the usb cable to verify that the problem is with the cable and not with the tablet.
I was getting very slow charge rates with my usb charger. Around 12 hour charge times even when completely powered off. Anyway, my problem was with using a USB extension cable. Since I started plugging it directly into the wall I've been seeing charge times in the 5-6 hour range. My iPad never had an issue with it, but whatever! You might also try a different wall outlet.

I cant seem to solve this problem. I have tried using pogo and usb cables with two different chargers. I have also tried using different wall mounted phone chargers. I am not able to get any positive charge while the tablet is on. Using the battery monitor widget, I used to see a +1800 charge with the pogo, and a bit less with the usb cable. Now, the highest I get is -500.
I am only able to charge when the tablet is off, although very slowly. I had it charging all night, and it is now at 60%
When I plug the pogo cable in, the tablet will say it is charging, but it really isnt doing anything.
Any ideas?

Recalibrate battery? It's probably not going to work though. RMA the tablet as a last resort.

How can I recalibrate the battery?
Im in Europe until June, so Im assuming it wont be easy to RMA.
There is also a strange thing going on with the usb cable. My computer is unable to detect it as a storage device. When I plug the charger in, it will not show up as charging when the tablet is on. But, I am able to access the tablet via fastboot.
Where is that oficial pogo charger from samsgoogle? 4 month and counting... 2 Biggest companies în the world are unable to produce a simple cable... Hillarious

The N10 charger is a 2 amp charger and most phone chargers are 1 amp chargers. The N10 will charge slowly with a 1 amp charger if it is powered off, however it needs 2 amps to run the N10 and charge at the same time. Also I have found that not all USB cables are created equal, you may want to try another usb cable. I do not know anything about the pogo chargers. Hope this helps.
