This is not intended to be a bug-sharing thread, report them if you wish, but I'm sure there will be entire threads devoted to this, so keep this in mind when posting.

Noob question though ..... I am on a custom ROM. I have CWM recovery.
I thought I couldnt update OTA if my TF was rooted ? or is it that I have the custom recovery that prevents this ?
I can flash back to stock easily - its removing CWM and unrooting that looked to be the more techie issue.
With what you are saying is there an easy way, once I have reverted to stock ROM, to revert to stock recovery without losing root ? Or do i even need to revert to stock ROM ??
Can update if rooted, but need to be on a stock ROM and stock Recovery image in order to successfully install. Download the 8.2.3.5 US recovery file located here :http://theunlockr.com/2011/11/28/how-to-unroot-and-remove-cwm-recovery-on-asus-transformer/, flash it through CWM and you have now overwritten your CWM and gone back to stock. Ready to update from there. Cheers!
so what is the procedure to update? Rename it, put it in microsd root and reboot into recovery?
another question, i cannot root with nachoroot, so is it possible to root with 1-click root?

That might work, I don't know exactly because I got the FOTA pushed to my device and updated through the 'official' update process. I honestly have no idea how the dlpkgfile is even packaged, if it is CWM flashable or requires stock recovery etc., honestly my first time fooling with capturing the OTA files.
Ok I'm trying and I will tell u....

Do I understand correctly that I only have to do Step 7 of the tutorial? and then install ICS (regular update process)?
I am rooted and I have CWM (no custom ROM)
So first impressions luna? Might as well start a discussion to keep the post on top and visible.
Did you run Spark? If so how does it compare?

Unfortunately I never did get around to trying the latest Spark, I saw the complaints about touchscreen issues and decided it might be best to wait for Paul to work it out, but Asus finally got the upper hand on him!
Seems a treat, but I expected as you can see I've been running CM9 on my epic for about 3 weeks now. Much snappier, generic comments that have already been posted- but not explored completely yet, too busy helping others get their own ICS since the update came in to be selfish and sign off yet
Steven, I'm not sure which step 7 you are referring to but you will need a stock recovery in order to flash the file. CWM will flash files that have been repacked for CWM usually, and OTA updates install from the cache partition so CWM will not be able to install the OTA. CWM can flash it manually, I THINK (not sure if it needs to be repackaged for that to occur or not), but CWM will not install the OTA through the normal OTA process.

I was refering to step 7 on the Unlocker page you pointed to:

So in short only replace the recovery as explained in pojnt 7 (and 8) of that page and then do a regular system update to ICS.
No need to unroot??
Will this keep my apps and settings? I do have Titanium so I can do a backup and restore that way.

Yes, your apps and data should remain intact, and that is correct, you only need to flash the recovery back to stock if you are already on a stock ROM. As of right now, only US and TW firmware versions are getting the OTA pushed to their device, but if you are not one of these you can manually flash to these stock ROMs via CWM if need be. But yes, if you are stock + root + CWM, you only need to flash over CWM back to stock. Root is fine to keep and all data will be saved (it is an official update, people would be irate if it wiped their data you know!)

Well I did the update with root disabled with rootkeeper but now rootkeeper will not restore Root.
I guess I should of read thi before updating

If you are SBK1 device you can flash CWM via NVFlash, use CWM to flash SU binary from ChainsDD (located HERE ) and then flash the stock recovery if you so choose to return to stock recovery (in case any patches or incremental updates come out you may need this if you want to stay stock ICS).
ONE MORE THING BEFORE I GO GUYS;
I just noticed that ICS brings a new recovery as well, so the update will overwrite your recovery, I assume it will do this if you figure out how to flash via CWM so be prepared for that. Any devs will want to work on removing the recovery blob from the patch file before releasing as a CWM flashable zip. My 2 cents. See you guys in a few hours/days, depending on how addicted I get to ICS.

After I updated to ICS, OTA Rootkeeper gave me the option to Restore root. Under the status section, Device rooted and Root permission granted were both unchecked until I used the Restore root option.
Apologies if this is a really stupid question, I have tried to search for a solution and found a few replies to other posts but I still don't really understand how to solve my problem.
My phone is rooted, running stock rom and had franco kernel on it.
I wanted to install the 4.3 OTA update so flashed the stock kernel and tried to update, but it failed saying "warning no file_contextsVerifying.. etc etc". I didn't write down the whole error message as I thought that I'd be able to recreate it if needed by trying to update again.
However, I now have stock rom and kernel but am still on 4.2.2 and when I check for updates it tells me that my phone is up to date.
How can I get to stock everything and update OTA without losing any of my apps/data and remaining rooted? Thanks for any help!
You need the stock recovery as well, without it the OTA won't run (has been mentioned hundreds of times before, see the OTA thread in General for more info)

You do if you want to do the process normally (ie. download OTA and flash without having to manually choose it in recovery). And that link goes to the Franco kernel thread, which I'm pretty sure has no bearing here

You can use a custom recovery to do it normally to when you get the notification just click on it. The reason I posted that link is because he had Franco kernel which changes a system file the link shows you how to change it back

So if I'm happy downloading the update on my computer and flashing it via cwm, I wouldn't need stock recovery? Does that mean that in my phones current state (stock rom, stock kernel and cwm) I could just do that to get to 4.3 and wouldn't lose any apps/data? Sorry if the answer to that is obvious...it just didn't like trying to install the ota update.
IMHO if you want to update via OTA you're better off being 100% stock, it will unroot you and there have been issues re-rooting 4.3 unless you know what you're doing. You also need the stock kernel to flash the OTA so you'll need to flash that back before hand. Easiest thing to do is back up your apps, flash the 4.3 factory image, re-root and restore your apps/data
I don't want to have issues re-routing so I guess my safest bet is to just stick with what I have right now?

Why do you need OTA update when you can get the stock ROM in flashable zip file? All features are remain the same for stock ROM. Search and download it in the Development sections.

I am rooted and received the OTA notification yesterday. You 'SHOULD' be able to install if ALL you did was root. However, if you applied any mods that made changes to the system, the OTA will fail.

This is your best bet if you want to run 4.4. You'll need to install a custom recovery to flash the zip files. All the files and instructions are here:

Did you read the linked post?
First step after installing custom recovery is to wipe data/factory reset, so yes, you will lose your settings.

What I would like is to update to kitkat without losing my data.
I have the bootloader unlocked and the phone rooted, but when I go to recovery mode I get "No command" screen (is that normal?).
I was thinking of getting the phone unrooted, then update through the OTA, then root it again, just for making sure I don't break anything, but the "No command" screen does not look very good...
On the other hand, Would I lose my data if I "unroot" the phone?

To unroot, all you need to do is go into SuperSu, disable root, uninstall the app and then reboot the phone.
If all you have done is root the phone, and didn't modify anything else, then the OTA update 'SHOULD' install without a problem.
You can go to Android Police and download the OTA files and flash them via ADB, or you can just wait for the OTA to be pushed to your device.
If you decide to do it the manual way, there is one additional step you must take to ensure to keep your data I believe.

One last thing: I'm not pretty sure the only thing I modified was the rooting. I did not install any zip to modify my stock version, but there is something weird. I will explain:
At first I had 4.2.2, then I rooted and installed CWM. When 4.3 was released I got the OTA update correctly but I lost the root, so I rooted it again, this time without CWM.

Glad I could help. In the future, as long as you don't modify the system by flashing any modifications, you should be able to get the OTA update to install. Root doesn't affect this, and if you're worried about it, you can always uninstall it.
I opted to update using the stock zip files that were posted above and it worked just fine for me.
So, I got the OTA notification, and before I do something stupid, I have a few stupid questions I'm on stock 4.3, rooted, unlocked bootloader, custom recovery, xposed framework and franco kernel. I read in other people's threads that in order to not brick, I should go back to stock kernel, stock recovery and I'll lose root and unlocked bootloader, correct? If so, is wug's kit still usable on 4.4 to get root/unlock back? And regarding xposed, anything I should do about that, like go to stock framework lol or the framework doesn't affect the update? Sorry for all the questions, but I don't want to risk a brick, and THEN ask many questions Thank you very much!
First of all this won't brick your phone. You have a few options:
1-download the ota zip, go into recovery, do a full wipe and flash the ota zip. (This is the quickest and easiest method. After doing this you will still have your custom recovery, and the contents of your internal storage will be untouched.)
2-Flash the factory images. (Your phone gets completely wiped, including your custom recovery.)

Just go into Wugs and flash the latest firmware directly, you won't have to change anything else.

Yes, root will be lost. But to get it back just download the latest supersu and simply flash it via recovery. Thats all.

whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy whyyyyyyyyyyyyy all this man just go to forum and download stock rooted 4.4 its 10 minutes out of your life and its done.. Hey if you like just wipe system dalvik and cache and upgrade you wont lose any apps but of course if this is an issue or get FC just factory reset... Its soooo simple
Hi folks! I have a Galaxy S4 GPE, rooted and unlocked, but stock otherwise. When I try to run the OTA update for 4.4.3, the phone reboots into TeamWin recovery and appears to start installing. The install errors out though. Can I not install the OTA update because I'm rooted? If so, would reverting the rooting allow me to install? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Is there a thread on how to do that? I seem to remember when I installed this recovery tool to root the phone, it wiped everything. Is it going to do that again? Because I don't want to have to keep wiping my phone every time a new Android update comes out just to be rooted.

I went through that method, and it's essentially the same thing, except that I'm downloading the actual update file myself and not letting Android handle it. Needless to say it didn't work. I also updated my TWRP to 2.7.1.0 and tried; no luck. I also uninstalled SuperSU to see if removing root would help. It didn't.

It's the problem of no read for be vague. It worked perfectly on the GPE of my sister. The update that appears in the website is ready for install it through custom recovery. Read all the guide:
