Obviously I don't have the device yet, but I am seriously considering it and searched for every one's experiences and reviews here and there and so far I have found these issues:
In this video showing the gaming experience, the device obviously lags and drops frames to the point o being unplayable when you play the GTA San Andreas with the maximum graphic settings, which is odd considering the chipset and the lower resolution it pushes versus other 801/Adreno 330 devices : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubC1e0ScghU

it is rated way low. In fact all Z series devices seem to be lacking power in headphone output and are no where to be find at the top, it may be the result of water/dust proofing the device, but I don't know for sure. (Though the loudspeaker is pretty good.)

- The screen is brighter and easier to read in daylight than my Moto X, but the viewing angles are pretty bad, especially at diagonals to the screen rectangle (the colors wash out very badly in this case). It's tolerable, but my Moto X's screen was definitely better.

1. cannot write directly to my sd card from an external pen drive - why why why? especially when the internal memory is only 16gb
2. 3rd party toggle for mobile data doesn't work - only the one in the highly inconvenient right side notification bar (have since overcome that using Notification Toggle app)
3. Need a faster charger - just wondering if the Samsung 2Amp charger will actually charge it quicker than the supplied 1.5A one?

I wouldn't say it's 'unplayable', but I get your point. I suppose if you absolutely have to play games on ultra max settings, that would be an issue. I think most people would be willing to turn it down a notch and get good performance though.

I have a Moto X (2013). The speaker is loud, but at the highest two or three levels, the speakers distorts a lot, and I physically feel my phone vibrating. It doesn't distort with headphones in though tbf. Personally, I'll take slightly less volume for better quality. You can also always use an app like Equalizer to increase volume.

I order one form my wife and I this morning. Neither one of these things concern me. My biggest concern is the durability of the glass. This will be my first phone with glass on the front and back. It's Gorilla Glass 3 on both sides correct? I know it's not indestructible though. And I don't like the low panorama settings on the camera. Other than that I'm good to go.
I think its dragontrail glass which is another equivalent of gorilla glass. I don't think there will be much difference.

I myself have been very impressed with the glass on my Xperia Acro S, I've had it for about a year and a half now, never used a screen protector or case and I work as a landscaper so the phone has been in my pocket unprotected along with sand, dust and other debris and it only has one very small scratch which is quite difficult to notice, and maybe a dozen of even harder to notice micro scratches. I've also dropped the phone several times on very hard floors and it there are only a few rough spots on the chrome-like rim. But the display glass still looks like new, unless you hold it directly under a very strong light right after thoroughly cleaning the glass. It has dragontrail glass I think. Though the glass sits slightly deeper than the frame, which helps. I think with the Z3C, the glass is level with or ever so slightly raised above the frame.

Unless you are holding the phone flat against your face or use it under a magnifying glass, you won't see the difference.
Additionally, 720p HD improves performance and battery life compared to full-HD.
Also, with full-HD on a screen of this size, interface elements and buttons in some apps and games would be so tiny that they'd be practically unusable.

The Moto X screen was rated pretty average for the previous generation so I'm not too surprised that the S3 looks better. Also the S3 has the same resolution as the X so resolution plays no part in the comparision.

Motorola Moto X: 4.7 inch, 1280 x 720 pixels
Samsung Galaxy s3: 4.8 inch, 1280 x 720 pixels
Both have the same resolution - the same as Xperia Z3 Compact - and none of them are full-HD.
The Galaxy S3 uses a pentile AMOLED panel, which are known for having less sharpness than TN or IPS with the same resolution. So I don't know what is going on with the phones of you and your husband. Logic tells me the Moto X should have a sharper display than the Galaxy S3.

I also think Google chose Samsung because of two very big HTC ****ups / backstabs.
1. The Nexus One. A Great Phone...
Except for the touch screen.
This was Google's "baby". And what did HTC do? They shipped all of their devices with faulty touch screens. ALL of them. And people overlook this? Why? This is HUGE. People say Samsung has a bad track record but this dwarfs Samsung's software issues. No I'm not speaking out of my ass, as I do own a Nexus One. I forked 350$ out for one why? Just so I could attempt to deal with the multi-touch issues on my projects.
2. HTC G2. Anti-Root.
No more comment on this. Of course they eventually figured it out, but HTC didn't want you to.
3. ?
Terrible, scratchy speakers on the Nexus One. Even on the G2.
What are your thoughts? I understand some people prefer the metal and hate the plastic. I for one love the aluminum on the iPad and Macbook Airs. However I also like the way the plastic feels on the Vibrant minus the 'creaks'. It feels very smooth in comparison to the G2 for instance.
HTC has been great to me but I am happy Google went with Samsung.
Without the SuperAMOLED I wouldn't even be considering this phone as an upgrade to my Nexus-1
I agree with you OP. I loved the look and feel of the Vibrant, but i kept my N1 because of the "Pure Google" experience. I always thought to myself i wish the Galaxy S phone had Vanilla android, that would be amazing! We will see next week.

Pretty much everything Anderdroid said we both went from Nexus one to galaxy S phones so have plenty of experience between both hardware of the N1/NS
even without SAMOLED this phone its better than nexus one
better multitouch up to 5 finger registration, better external speaker and sound quality is excellent whether its from external,3.5 and even stereo bluetoooth. Not to mention ridiculously fast mobile GPU
But yea SAMOLED is a huge plus IMO produces better whites doesn't seem to have the bluish/purplish tint that i noticed with my N1 and also better in direct sunlight

I agree with everything the OP said and then some:
- super evil NAND lock on devices making the whole "open" in the OS to pretty much heavily locked down. To date Samsung were very relaxed about securing their devices in evil ways.
Better reach of Samsung all over the world. For exmaple, here in India HTC support is pathetic/kind of non existence. They have just started setting up their own service centers. Whereas samsung is pretty establisehd in this part of the world since long time. So I assume samsung has a wider reach.
But would love to see HTC expand their market here. Very few HTC models here
Samsung was probably the better choice.. though, I don't think I appreciate the material they used to make the NS. The N1 may have had a faulty touchscreen (wasn't that the same touch panel used on all the devices HTC made, prior to their more recent ones?).. but at least it didn't have a plastic covered casing that adores fingerprints.
I don't know exactly what the problem is with using plastic, but everyone doesn't like it.. so.. I'm jumping on the bandwagon, lol. In all seriousness though, why exactly is this so horrible?

Because it feels/looks more cheap then say, N1/Desire/Iphone 4 etc, the look suits more of a mid range phone, then a top end smartphone.
I have to say one thing I loved about the N1 was the teflon (or whatever it was) coating on the battery panel and back/sides of the phone. It would shrug off fingerprints and was quite hard to nick/scratch. Although after almost a year of use, my N1 does show some of the coating peeling off near the headphone jack and also near the USB plug.
SAMOLED has the bluish tints with their whites as well. And the Pentile Matrix arrangement used in SAMOLED results in not so sharp text. S-LCD is better in that way. Obviously overall both screens kind of tie out.

Yeah, if it's not for the screen. I would have gone for the Xperia Z a long time ago! That washed out screen was such a huge disappoinment:crying:
We'll I've got used to the screen now and guess what???
I started up the GS3 yesterday to see how bad the XZ screen really is.
Talk about a painful experience. Text was blurry and literally hurt my eyes compared to Xperia and colours are atrocious.
And a new patch from Sony is going to include white balance adjustment in display settings.
Also 4Mb photos
Personally Xperia Z is a better phone than GS3, HTC OneX, Nexus 4 and HTC One. All phones I have owned bar the One... I used one for two days and that was enough.

GS3's screen is a horrible display and I agree that Xperia Z is much better, but still fall far behind other flagships and even its predecessors like Xperia S, Ion in term of contrast. Even Xperia ZL has better screen than Z...:silly:.
That's not to mention about the viewing angle, which is seriously much worse than HTC old models that use TFT Super LCD
Viewing angles are fine, I love the screen. But... Screens and viewing angles etc- never been a problem or complaint until the reviews started moaning lol.
#SaveHTC
Most people have gadgets which has bad viewing angles. Like TFT monitors at work and home (most people dont have IPS monitors because of cost and response time on gaming), many tablets, and even LCD TV's.
And now a mobile phone with excellent color reproduction and resolution is getting bad reception because of viewing angles?
This is what I call hypocrasy.
Opinions are opinions but some people really have no justice.
Xperia Z is the best mobile phone I have used for a long time. It is an overall perfect phone. It doesnt deserve these critics at all.
Technological hype and competition has come to such a level that people are like slaves of media and corporations now.

Rumour means internet bullcrap in this context.
I have the device, don't have to visit shops lol, so I see you just repeat what you've read.
And compared it to all top end phones. Nothing is washed out.
It's just a UI which may make such an impression as well as Sony's contrast control mechanism
which prevents excessive batt usage which works on Sony's grey UI.
But the real performance is on par with SGSIV, HTC One etc.
There are videos showing it.
So please, stop the crap if you don't even know what you're talking about.

It's like you guys only check for contrast ratio when you look at displays. Ridiculous! The S has a horrible yellowy screen which is also present in the iPhone 5 and others.
The Z is the first flagship phone in a long time not to suffer from this tint issue.
I for one now see why Sony opted for the contrast ratio and color calibration, it produces a clear display free of that horrible tint.
Long may this continue, if you want a high contrast screen with yellowy look then you've got a lot of options out there.

If you actually pick up and use an Xperia Z... it's very bright and colourful. If you go into the gallery or watch videos and BE2 kicks in... it's INSANELY beautiful.
Here are some pictures I took VERY quickly... Ignore the badly put on screen protector, I wacked it on quickly to prevent the ASF being scratched until my proper one arrives.
On approx 30% brightness

First off, I wouldn't have gotten the Z1 if I didn't permanently brick my Xperia TX, which was doing an adequate job. I never planned to replace it until I renew my contract in 6 months, by then I would decide what would be available that's worth purchasing...my service provider has a ok to mediocre line up (Galaxy S4, HTC Desire, Motorola X, Nexus 5, Xperia SP), but none of them were interesting to keep.
Long story short, I tried to install a 3rd party ROM for the TX, only to have the screen flip upside down, later screwed up to the point where even the Sony logo does not even appear. It would constantly be stuck in Flash mode and it wouldn't even let you flash the stock firmware. Since the TX is not a Canadian phone, heck, it wouldn't even matter.
So I walked into the Sony Store and got myself a white Xperia Z1 C6906. Sales rep tried to sell me the magnetic charging dock, but I'm not too sure whether it's worth it. I looked at ebay and there seems to be a magnetic charging cable.
Build quality:
Since I had a chance to use a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 for a moment, I can say that the Z1 has a more "solid" feeling to it. I wouldn't say that it's impressive that the Note 3 manages to weigh around the same as the smaller Z1, despite having the bigger screen and slightly bigger battery. The plastic/leather?/aluminium? was the key to save weight. I'm sure if they used the same materials as the Z1, it would be around 185-200g.
Since the Z1 is built like an iPhone, using "premium" materials, there's a certain catch to it. Fragile.
When I got my iPhone 4, the first thing I got was a case to prevent permanent damage to its fragile product. This is the problem with the Z1 as well. Using glass as the front and back could end up from being one of the most beautiful phones into shattered glass. There is a shatter-proof sheet, but that doesn't mean anything. At the end of the day, you would still go out and buy a case, cover it up, end of discussion. You can't really see what the phone looks like anymore.
Now compared to last year's flagship, the T/TX, this is a huge jump. The plastic isn't bad, but plastic is plastic.
Button layout has been revamped, it certainly fits better with your fingers, where it should be naturally. However, I prefer the camera button to be bigger.
Hardware
Apples and oranges.
The T/TX had 1GB of RAM powered by an outdated Snapdragon S4. It performed about the same, if not, better than the Galaxy S3, but those were just benchmarks and they were already a good 6 months too late because the S4 was just announced...adding salt to the wound, the Z was also announced later on.
Compared to my TX, the Z1 just snaps through everything. Pictures load quick, Facebook doesn't lag to refresh news feed, none or barely any stutter in the animations, camera operates smooth, Walkman doesn't stutter it's audio, it just FLOWS.
LED notification is more noticeable than that puny dot on the corner on the T/TX.
The screen I got turns out to be the VA panel, ...why am I not surprised? But I don't have anything to complain as it still looks great, and the bad viewing angles will prevent other people from taking a peek at what I'm doing. Jumping from a 4.6 inch to a 5 inch with more pixels, everything looks sharper. I can't say much about the colour since I think it looks about the same in comparison.
Everyone says built-in battery is a problem, I personally find it to be the only Samsung fanboy argument as the importance of a removable battery is really insignificant. My TX has removable battery, but I never really had to take it out.
The only problem that I have is sound.
No rumoured S-Master MX DAC. I have a Walkman Z, and it sounds tremendous when paired with the Sony XBA-3 along with DSEE, Clear Stereo, and Clear Phase turned on, no equalizer adjustments needed.
For the Z1, volume is weak, bass too dull, vocals too tinny. Turning on ClearAudio+ and Dynamic Normalizer makes it worse. Clear Stereo is ok to use. Other than that, equalizer adjustment is highly recommended to fix this.
As for the speakers, I'm leaning more on the "I don't like it" side. Like the iPhone, the speaker grille for this is an absolute aesthetic b.s.
It isn't loud, nor is it very clear. It sounds slightly muffled, and feels like it came out of 320p YouTube when that's clearly not the case when it's played on headphones. At least they got the speaker placement correct...
Software:
Everything pretty much looks the same minus the camera interface. I've always like the Timescape UI better than any other ones out there so no complaints there. Camera quick-launch makes that funny music when turned on, I personally don't like it. They didn't do it with the T/TX, so why would they add it on now? Please don't say it's to warn the user that your camera function is turned on...at least make it like iPhone's auto turn off if no action has been done. I don't know if Android or Sony has such a function, but I know there is a fix here on xda to get rid of that.
Of course, that's up to whether the user wants to root or not.
As for the X-Reality engine, I would personally leave it off for the following reasons:
Over sharpened video - this seems to occur on some videos, it might be due to the codec or it might be due to its resolution. Leaving it off results in a natural video. Turning the engine on results in some funny white outlines popping everywhere including subtitle text that's just way too harsh to watch. However, playing the factory demo clips like The Smurfs 2 trailer shows no harsh sharpening.
Deceiving images - Everything might look great through that saturated and sharpen filter, but once you put it on the PC, it looks nothing like it anyways. Just like the TX's Bravia Engine, it doesn't improve on anything. If you like this sort of stuff, by all means, leave it on.
Camera
I haven't tested the camera too thoroughly to see how much of an improvement over an Exmor R sensor. The interface and functionality is much better than the TX thanks to better hardware. Picture file size says a lot, and 20 megapixels with only an average 5mb file size tells me there's not much detail being captured. Just like the TX's 13 megapixels, an average file size of 2mb is really disappointing when a 5 megapixel iPhone 4 can churn out pretty much the same thing, if not, better.
Low light has improved drastically thanks to the bigger sensor, but noise reduction seems too harsh or non-existent at times.
The hardware is there, but the software is certainly not making up for it.
Overall
From a hardware standpoint, most of the stuff is great. CPU/GPU is up-to-date, battery size is comparable to the giant Note 3 (not sure about usage though), you get the idea. The stuff about the screen not being PLS or IPS, well, if you're lucky, then consider it a bonus. The VA panel does more than enough if you stare right at it, colour reproduction might not be as good as IPS/PLS, but VA is considered a close contender.
From a software standpoint, if you have been using the previous generation T/TX, nothing should be unexpected as there are no drastic changes that require you to read the manual or anything. Since this phone is still relatively new, its also unsurprising that 3rd party development lacks compared to the insta-popular S4 and Note 3 where there are just pages of stuff to go through. If you don't mod, it's already pretty decent at its stock form.
Price is probably the only killer. $699 Canadian is steep. Yes, Rogers sells it for $599, but I want white and I don't use Bell or Telus, so suck it.
Contract price goes for much less...but it's contract price, ain't nobody got time for that.
With that money, you're open to a lot of top-end options like the Note 3, G2, even the Nexus 5 which is half the price of this. With CES just around the corner, prices will start dropping soon.
Nonetheless, it's still an excellent phone. Now I'm off to buy the Spigen GLAS.tR SLIM from Japan
It feels fragile, but I assure its not... I have seen a review where it was dropped from 5ft 3 times in succession and the glass didn't even chip... well yes it did chip a little, 1 mm on the corner, hardly noticeable... never see any other phone with stand this... all Note 3, G2 Iphone 5s all broken screen on the first drop...
But z1 was the only phone not working after the drop.... Sooo it's a pretty brick now.

actually those guys are idiots, they didn't test the device before and after every drop (like they always do on samsungs and iphones). so we all don't know when did it actually stop working...
I personally saw one drop from 5 ft and its still working, just a little scratches here and there...
Dropped mine / fell out of my pocket > 10 times now. Some scratches in the alumunium frame, some in the protective stock anti shatter layer. Overall I'm VERY impressed how resilient it is for its looks. On the other hand, it has to win the award for the most slippery phone to date yet. Let me tell you that I had the same problem as well. Videos were extra sharp with jagged edges when XR was turned on and it wasn't visible on the pre-loaded videos. Like you said, turning it off would make it better but the colors won't be vivid as when XR is on. So I became frustrated and checked with a demo piece available at the store. The demo had the same issue too. I thought it was a problem with all the devices. Then I replaced mine due to pinch to zoom issues with my Z1. When I received the new one, it DIDN'T have the sharpness problem as before. So I was thinking that it could have been a panel or hardware problem. My second device went under a replacement as well. The third device I received didn't have the problem too. So I guess it affects some of the devices and your's has been affected. The Z1 I have now is very good when watching videos with XR turned on and colors pop out actually I request you to check your's with other devices at the store or with your friends if they have one.

I actually tried it again and it seems that the X-Reality over-sharpens 720p video while 1080p seems perfectly fine. I played a 1080p .mkv with XR turned on and it was completely fine.

Yeah, but if I move around while sitting the phone "slides" to the edge of my pocket. Then the little tilt backwards to gain momentum before standing up sends it flying. Damned shallow pockets!

It works on YouTube and with MX player too but first you have to go to decoder and tick all the H/W+ options and untick all the S/F boxes, in some video sites similar to youtube you can choose MX to be the video player as well.

For me x-reality only do things better, here's an example of a 720p video showing the difference
You can clearly see that the second pic is a lot sharper especially if you look at the text and colors are more vivid too. I don't know if you see that as something negative but for me it definitely is an improvement over the original video.
Well at some scenes perticular details get oversharpened and look awfull...

I created this thread specifically for all the members to talk about the new 2k screen of the LG G3. The screen is the most important feature of the LG G3 and it is what LG brags about the most. For many of us including me, the screen will be the deciding factor of whether we buy the phone or not.How does the new 2k display panel perform in real life situations compared to other high end phone display panels like the Galaxy S5 or HTC One M8? Let's have a nice dedicated thread to the most important feature on this phone.
Ideas to talk about:
•Contrast levels
•How your content looks on it
•Your thoughts of it compared to the previous display you had.
•Any weird issues? (Screen interlacing, ghost issues)
•Color production
•Do you find it nice and worthwhile?
•How are those BLACK LEVELS (Important!)
•Any heat issues with the screen?
•Good high and low brightness levels?
All of the above... Thinking of upgrading from a nexus 5...
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I have seen a couple of reviews that say the max brightness is quite dim. Can someone who owns one confirm if this is true?
The G2 has the best display I have ever had and I don't want to downgrade to a duller screen (I am not bothered about the high res as the G2 has enough res. I want bright and vibrant!

Go to s5 ^^ it's too bright and too vibrant  (^^)
And ffs please, reviewers, don't simply declare that you can't distinguish individual pixels on 1080p as well as 2k and then conclude from that that the extra resolution doesn't make a difference. The question is: how do you subjectively experience visual items in 2k vs. 1080p--images, text, UI items, etc.. Past 325 dpi, a pixel is not an item, so it's irrelevant that you can't see one. Tons of those online reviews provide what the reviewer thinks their impression of the screen must be instead of the reviewer providing their true impression.

I don't like the s5. Various reasons but mainly the cover over the charging port and overall design.
I love my g2 but need more memory (64gb minimum). I am worried about the screen on the g3 but the reviewers all focus on the resolution but I want to hear from real users about the real world experience of the screen.
Many thanks in advance for any input from owners of the phone.
Great Arstechica review as usual
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/06/lg-g3-review-a-great-phone-with-way-too-many-pixels/
That cover on the S5 (my wife has one), is for water proofing and easily ripped off.
Personally, I could use a screen with less pixels and longer screen-on time. I consider the screen resolution to be a minus. My preference is less pixels and make it a 6", like the HTC One Max I just returned after a week.

Can't agree with you there. They did the same move as all the other reviewers where they presume that the inability to distinguish individual pixels automatically means people can't see any overall difference in image quality:
Even at point-blank range, it's hard to resolve a single pixel. 1080p screens are also beautiful, though, and when looking at the two, side-by-side, we aren't convinced the jump to 1440p is necessary. More pixels only matter if you can see them, and on a ~5-inch device, it's almost impossible to tell the difference between a 1080p screen and the 1440p screen of the G3.

That's why I asked above that any reviewers here avoid that particular groupthink and tell us how they actually experience 2k vs. 1080p.

That's logical. But so is the idea that the human eye can't distinguish pixels at a density greater than 326dpi. So, yeah, it comes down to subjective judgment calls. In that case, I'm interested in the subjective point of view of people who actually have one of these devices and their actual experience. We already know how do deduce logically what everyone's experience must be, and all the reviews I've read only do that. Images and text may appear sharper at a given distance from the eye in a way unrelated to whether or not you can distinguish an individual pixel.
The LG G3 has the best smartphone display I've seen: It's sharp, but it's also bright and has great color. The colors don't pop quite as much as on some of the better SuperAMOLED screens I've seen (such as on the just-announced Samsung Galaxy Tab S), but the sharpness is off the charts.
Comparing the G3's display to the one on the HTC One M8 (my current favorite Android phone), I felt the LG's was just as sharp, and a few details — such as drop shadows in Evernote — stood out slightly more. And even though colors weren't as vivid as on the HTC, the G3 had more natural skin tones

From Mashable's review. Everyone's eyes are different I guess.
Contrast was superb. Black text on white background — one of the most essential things a smartphone, or any display, needs to get right — really stood out. The ultra-sharp characters nearly jumped off the screen, and I couldn't discern individual pixels, no matter how close I put my eye to the screen.
So the LG G3's Quad HD display is more than just hype. But only a bit. There's nothing wrong with the HTC One M8's screen — or the Samsung Galaxy S5's or the iPhone 5S's for that matter. They're still mighty sharp, and can display great images, just not quite as sharply or as impressively as the LG G3.

I truly hope that the screen is great on this phone but I can't wait any longer and have just ordered an S5. I have waited for all the flagships to come out this year and was truly hoping that the G3 would be the one. Two of the most important things to me are brightness and battery life and I'm worried that with the G3 I would end up having the brightness cranked all the time and would have poor battery life as a result. Really wanted to try LG this time but lost my nerve

yes but not for marketing.
I'm most concerned with the viewing angles, black levels, contrast, and color accuracy. I'm definitely getting the G3 but I really don't want to have to play the panel lottery. I'd prefer a warmer display over a cooler display - as long as it's not noticeably pink/green/blue, I'm fine. A slight yellow/orange tint is okay, but obviously a calibrated display would be the best. My black Nexus 5's viewing angles aren't great, with the screen washing out at 30+ degree angle. My buddy's white Nexus 5 seems to have better viewing angles, so I'm not sure what the deal is. I'm pretty confident in LG's ability to produce good displays -- they pretty much made this phone just to show off their new display.
Actually, I'm now concerned about the narrowness of the bezel. Yes, it's a cool feature, and everyone dreams of a bezel-less phone, but I already have problems due to the narrowness of my S4's bezel. When I'm holding my phone for an extended time, referring to notes while speaking to people, my grip often gets interpreted by the system as a touch and hold. That pops up a dialog that I have to dismiss, and it's really obtrusive in real time situations. Sure, I could be more careful, but it's just too easy to make that problem happen during normal usage. It's not like I have big fat hands or a weird grip or anything. I've already been thinking that when we finally get bezel-free phones, there will have to be utilities to create a non-reactive border of pixels in a user-specified width, or else the user will accidentally be popping things up all over the place. At present, though, I think the G3's large size and tiny bezel are actually going to make it difficult to use the way I want to use it even though it's hardly bigger than my S4. You never know until you actually use it for a few days and try to adapt, but there's no way to do that without buying it, which I'm now hesitant to do.
You're holding it wrong ☺

My display was replaced by Sony as soft-keys weren't working. Also they upgraded to v5.1.1 Lollipop.
But the new replacement display doesnt look like ORIGINAL ones which I had prior to replacement. This new one looks Matte finish type while the one I had originally was Glossy.
Or either the new display is not of a Z3 but of other compact phones like Z1 compact etc. Can this happen??
I can easily make it out as the regular HD wallpapers which I applied on old and new display looks different on same brightness settings.
Or is it so that the new display batch is improved etc. Or is it just that lollipop 5.1.1 displays graphics in this way???
I'm feeling pissed off!!!
Update*****The wallpapers have a pinkish tint on them.
In fact if I apply same wallpaper and take screenshot it appears differently than on previous display. So now its not just the display issue, seems somethings wrong internally. Coz a screenshot should come natural as it has nothing to do what colors the display produces right???

See the difference between these two images. The overall face, cheeks and neck bones & overall body, leaves and tree branches etc.all got browny or pinkish tint which isnt natural looking. In old display the image is represented as is ORIGINALLYin colors generation which looks a natural human body tone and also other background factors.
the z1 compact screen is smaller so its not that. Is it at all possible you can take a picture of the screen?
Did you have xreality engine off on the other phone? It might be on here. FYI: my screen didnt change its look when i upgraded to 5.1.1
For all you know you scored a screen from the Z5 compact seeing as the z3 compact is discontinued

Are you crazy?? Dude Z5 isnt in the world as of yet and Z3compact is just not even a year old and you talking about such crap.
I need a valid or at least meaningful explanation.
It was only one carrier in the US who discontinued the z3 compact. It's still the latest available compact device from Sony world wide...

Are you sure there's no screen protector on it? XD and is the display better or worse? If it's better, then why complain?

I removed screen protector and it really doesnt look that good as was before.
Wanna know if lollipop is causing this issue coz read somewhere in changelog that lollipop did some gui enhancements as well.
The difference not comes from lollipop. I also change my screen before 2 or 3 months and it's not the same as the original. It is more like amoled now(more hot colors).

Is it so?? Then why cant Sony put the same old screen.
This amoled seems sacrifices on color quality.
Means tomorrow even phones battery or others part will be replaced by subsequent alternate option rather than the original factory fitted ones????
Lol they didn't put an amoled screen on it.
I doubt that they used amoled

For a replaced display screen can there be minor color difference??

This is BS, only the Z3 compact screen fits the Z3 compact connector and frame which is an LCD screen with a glossy finish. AMOLED is a proprietary technology from Samsung and Sony never used OLED nor AMOLED displays on any smartphone.
If you had your display replaced at a dubious shop then it could be that they used a counterfeit display which could have much more variations vs. the OEM one but not for a warranty repair obviously.
Now it can be that your display has a slightly different brightness or color temperature vs. your old display which is totally normal. If it has a matte finish it is that you did not remove the screen protector or left one on the screen.
I am not saying the display that they put on my phone is amoled it has colors like amoled that I didn't like.
I'm curious can you post a picture?
I think there's just a difference in your white balance. And it just seems a little warner now. I wish my white balance was warmer

no screen replacement
I had a screen issue also, but Sony replaced the whole phone with a new one. They said that changing the screen couldn't guarantee the waterproof.

As amoled is a better quality display you do not have either an amoled display or a display that looks like amoled.
Current amoled is much better quality, Check Wikipedia for a list of high end flagship that use it. The Nokia N808 used a 3 year old super amoled that is better than anything on the market even today.
So you can get that idea out of your head. I would pay a lot extra for a super amoled screen I my Z3C.
My GF has a Z1C which is 0.3" smaller but the screen looks like you say in comparison to the Z3C.

Nokia were the first with amoled displays so I highly doubt it is Samsung proprietary technology, and their displays were consistently better than any other manufacturer.
The dodgy repairer sounds like a very possible option. I had something similar in SE Asia from Sony Thailand - complete BS "repair", luckily I put it in a glass of water in front of the Sony store manager so when it leaked water and died he could say absolutely nothing and had to give me a refund, well the fact I made a song and dance and a customer about to buy a large new tv walked out really did it. (I bought my current z3C in the US)

It was brought up but you didn't answer: you do know you can change settings under display don't you? Is x-reality turned on? Have you adjusted the white balance?
5.1.1 does not change the look of the screen.

Well I never used any of those features like x-reality and super-vivid as Image enhancement was always set off by me.
And those reference screenshots as well didnt had x-reality or vivid turned on.
In fact I never saw any difference eve on my screen even if I turn on x-reality or super-vivid.
A screenshot will not show screen differences, it'll just show the screen on the device I use to view it I.e. My phone or my laptop for me, your phone or whatever for you. So the screen shots are useless. If you don't believe me go and look at the screenshot on your computer.
If yo cannot see the difference with x-reality on maybe that is where you trouble lays? Your eyes.
sorry to be rude but There is a vast difference with these options turned on or off.
So once again, still trying to help you, go and turn these settings on, and then check and modify your white balance - do these fix your problem?

The screenshots are taken internally with the inbuilt screenshot capture utility and not by another phone by hovering onto my device. Did you got that??
