I would have bought the Xperia Z if the screen was better. It has some lag on the stock ROM but custom Roms fix that so that isn't an issue. But the screen I cannot deal with.

Yeah, if it's not for the screen. I would have gone for the Xperia Z a long time ago! That washed out screen was such a huge disappoinment:crying:
We'll I've got used to the screen now and guess what???
I started up the GS3 yesterday to see how bad the XZ screen really is.
Talk about a painful experience. Text was blurry and literally hurt my eyes compared to Xperia and colours are atrocious.
And a new patch from Sony is going to include white balance adjustment in display settings.
Also 4Mb photos
Personally Xperia Z is a better phone than GS3, HTC OneX, Nexus 4 and HTC One. All phones I have owned bar the One... I used one for two days and that was enough.
My Xperia Z just works...

GS3's screen is a horrible display and I agree that Xperia Z is much better, but still fall far behind other flagships and even its predecessors like Xperia S, Ion in term of contrast. Even Xperia ZL has better screen than Z...:silly:.
That's not to mention about the viewing angle, which is seriously much worse than HTC old models that use TFT Super LCD
Viewing angles are fine, I love the screen. But... Screens and viewing angles etc- never been a problem or complaint until the reviews started moaning lol.
#SaveHTC
Most people have gadgets which has bad viewing angles. Like TFT monitors at work and home (most people dont have IPS monitors because of cost and response time on gaming), many tablets, and even LCD TV's.
And now a mobile phone with excellent color reproduction and resolution is getting bad reception because of viewing angles?
This is what I call hypocrasy.
Opinions are opinions but some people really have no justice.
Xperia Z is the best mobile phone I have used for a long time. It is an overall perfect phone. It doesnt deserve these critics at all.
Technological hype and competition has come to such a level that people are like slaves of media and corporations now.
Sorry for my small rant

Screen. Sharp.
Slightly washed out colours???
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess mate.
I'm getting 4.5hrs screen on time with 13-14 hrs use. Great battery life.
Speaker is loud and connected to my Yamaha/ Energy home system sounds amazing. Samsung could only wish.

If you actually pick up and use an Xperia Z... it's very bright and colourful. If you go into the gallery or watch videos and BE2 kicks in... it's INSANELY beautiful.
Here are some pictures I took VERY quickly... Ignore the badly put on screen protector, I wacked it on quickly to prevent the ASF being scratched until my proper one arrives.

Rumour means internet bullcrap in this context.
I have the device, don't have to visit shops lol, so I see you just repeat what you've read.
And compared it to all top end phones. Nothing is washed out.
It's just a UI which may make such an impression as well as Sony's contrast control mechanism
which prevents excessive batt usage which works on Sony's grey UI.
But the real performance is on par with SGSIV, HTC One etc.
There are videos showing it.
So please, stop the crap if you don't even know what you're talking about.

It's like you guys only check for contrast ratio when you look at displays. Ridiculous! The S has a horrible yellowy screen which is also present in the iPhone 5 and others.
The Z is the first flagship phone in a long time not to suffer from this tint issue.
I for one now see why Sony opted for the contrast ratio and color calibration, it produces a clear display free of that horrible tint.
Long may this continue, if you want a high contrast screen with yellowy look then you've got a lot of options out there.

BIG-UPDATE
xda member Xifil spoke to a Sony Rep from London who put him in touch with a Sony Rep in Belguim or Sweden or somwhere cant remember then name but he knew more about the technology in the phone, and confirmed what i feared
xiFIL call to Sony Rep @ approx 20:30 18/02/2012
xiFIL: HI, its ******* from VODAFONE, i wanted to ask with regards to the technologies in the screen, we can be real with each other, i work for vodafone, work for a carrier, your Sony Rep referred me to you, how do you find the screen, how do you find the quality, do you believe the screen is up to par,
SONY REP: I'm going to be honest here, if you are someone who is an average user then the screen so much wouldn't matter much to you
but if it was me i would not buy the screen, there was no way for SONY to make a really slim device without putting an E-IPS cheaper screen in,
and because we know that everyone will not be happy with the screen, so we added the waterproof feature to subsidize for it.
xiFIL: The Dev unit had a really good screen though, it was good quality but several other devices i have tested were rubbish....?
SONY REP: The DEV units were made in Japan and came directly from there, and different to the production units, it is a variant of the Japanese variant without the branding, and all the developer tools,
The above conversation is not word for word but along those lines
SONY actually realized the xperia Z was not up to par, they still went ahead with the Z being rubbish, this is first hand news from a SONY REP WHO ADMITTED THEY HAVE NOT MADE A SCREEN UPTO PAR with current devices and gave it waterproofing to make up for the screen being rubbish, face it not one of us would have bought it with a inferior screen if it does not have the IP ratings!
Believe it if you want or stay in denial, but you will see after launch, the Japs seem to have got a better variant but we have been had off!

I was better but still not perfect. The screen just lacks vibrancy, it appears kinda dull. I mean it is beautiful when you view images and videos, but when you compare it to any other device you feel like there is something missing in presentation of colors. As I said before, though the blacks are deep and I don't think that there is any problems with the viewing angles. The screen appears very reflective, but the one I looked at lacked the screen protector supplied with the phone (which maybe corrects that a little bit)

I got the same impression when testing the device for 30 minutes. Te difference, screen wise, is stunning when I was running YouTube (for some reason or maybe it's normal, the bravia engine didn't kick in) or playing the installed game, Temple Run 2.
What is even more troublesome is the fact that the problem is not officially recognized by Sony, so it's highly possible that some of the customers will end up with the bad unit. While I was told the test models were demo ones, I got very worried reading the Gsmarena review because they specifically requested another unit after their first XZ's preview and getting, surprisingly a bad screen.

I have some bad news, There is a reason why the Sony store devices had a washed out device,
I just spoke to XDA member xiFIL, and my worst fears have come true, his Vodafone store received batches of the Z today in preparation for launch, These were final units not dev units, the boxes had IMEI numbers on it and serial numbers etc, they took out a few devices where the boxes got damaged in transit and tested them to make sure they work as well as testing the whole batch for quality control.
His Dev unit was special and it had a really good screen like the Docomo units BUT
The screens on the final units received at his store today look washed out like the demo units, to top this off he checked several devices in case it was just one device that had a faulty screen AND all of them looked like the demo units with washed out colours exactly as described in the paris sony store and by shem2409, there is no production unit and demo unit theory, why would SONY put rubbish screens in the demo and then better ones in the actual product, no there was no cost saving, the JAPS just gave themselves a better screen than the rest of the world, THIS IS IT!, this is what you will get nothing else, all hope was lost today and i am probably going to cancel my Pre-order,
There is no trolling, there is no hating on the device, it is the simple truth, Sony just put a 2012 screen on a 2013 device,
So many people have seen the live units at phones 4 u, at a sony store and all agree with the above.
OLD NEWS
One question posed was whether the Sony Xperia Z uses an IPS screen or not due to so much negativity regarding pre-production models being washed out with poor viewing angles.
It did state it in the Sony blog last year they were going to use JDI who manufacture IPS screens and also remove a layer of air between the screen and glass.
It appears Sony may have lived up to its claim and the Screen looks brilliant with good viewing angles!
After carefully analyzing the videos very closely, i see the display does not wash out at like the demo units do and the viewing angles and color seem to be on par with the S3 or One X
more videos below!
I have seen two demo units in two different retail stores and have to say the videos below are definitely better.
please watch video on youtube full screen in HD mode on a big screen and see for yourself,
XDA User Shem2409 went to the Sony Center today and took a short video in which he demoed the screen viewing angles, brightness and color as best as possible.
Here is his video:

here are is the Japanese live model video so now stop slating and trolling the phone after reading sh!tty preview demo reviews and wait for the real thing to come out!
Also if you watch this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=lgsYDXmdVzc#t=130s
forward to 2 minutes and 10 seconds, while the phone is booting up, the screen dims a little and all of a sudden it gives better black levels at 2:17
video is also here if you manually forward
Apparently this is the calibration tool which will be provided on the Z to calibrate our own display colour
A Sony representative also claimed the pre-production/DEMO/beta models were made using cheap materials and also the screen was glued by hand and not set properly as the production models, simply because they wanted the devices to be ready for CES 2013 and due to the amount of demo units they wanted to send out asap and that the production models would be better.
So now if you wanna be gangster and look at your phone sideways, you can!
I will give a full review of the screen and phone once i get my phone on the 28th

That is what i thought but then i saw this
We previously reported on the fact that at least one of Sony Mobile’s upcoming 2013 flagship is likely to feature a 5-inch (1920 x 1080) display with an impressive 443 PPI. The display will be developed by Japan Display Inc (JDI) and the press release published in early October suggested it would be a TFT-LCD IPS display in RGB configuration.

I remember reading somewere (watched so many xperia Z videos i lost track ) that the xperia Z is actually IPS and that the demo units were TFT screens and that, but this hasn't been confirmed, nor does it seem to be true as no sony representatives have mentioned it, not unlikely though
Oh dear lord how many times do we have to say it.
The Xperia Z DOES HAVE AN IPS DISPLAY. NOT ALL IPS DISPLAYS HAVE THE SAME VIEWING ANGLES.
Also, IPS is still TFT. It is an IPS TFT LCD. The display you're thinking of with the really bad viewing angles that change colours under an angle are TN TFT LCD's. Have a look here for more about that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36852469&postcount=100
The Xperia Z uses this display: http://www.j-display.com/english/news/2012/20121004.html
Well as of whatever i havve seen on youtube..The only problem with the display is the viewing angles...The screen looks washed out..Otherwise using it straight [which is 90% of the time] its a great screen. Just coz of the TFT nature it has this problem and IPS does not solve it.

Good point, in any case if the viewing angles/colours are washed out then they included a screen colour colaborator so there is no need to root it, instead you can do it straight from the device.
The IPS doesnt help it in viewing angles though..it looks washed out!

Superior Auto and Exmor RS for mobile work together so you can capture the best possible photos in all light conditions with Xperia Z.
The display isn't washed out on a side angle. All the display rumors are false and they might just be propaganda of other OEM companies.
Take a look at this images(not intended for display comparison) if you see any washed out displays on them.
The ones you see with bad displays were taken by smartass photographers which were paid by other companies to destroy the image of Xperia Z/ZL. Come on guys I know you're all smarter than this

Well I'm going to be returning my Z1 due to the very poor screen.
Everything on the screen isn't sharp enough (funny that as it's a Sharp panel) the colours are very poor. The white are more cream like.
Software is buggy if you turn off optimised backlight.
Ear piece speaker isn't loud enough, probably due to the waterproofing.
Camera is nothing to rave about either.
Yes some of these issues will be sorted out with updates but they might not and I'm not taking the risk on a £550+ device.

Just give it a chance for it to settle. Try going to *#*#7378423#*#* and run a display test. Check if it's yellowish there. Unless my Xperia Ion has a yellow screen (highly doubt), I compared a C6903 and my ion screen yesterday via the service menu and whites looked white on both screens.

to me the Amoled screen makes everything look unnatural - like everything looks animated instead of real, it might be pretty to look at but it is just so lacking in detail and texture, I tried watching a movie on anS4 and it looked dark saturated and animated - honestly not really what anyone want
Ever wonder why they don't use Amoled screen on TV's ? if you answer that honestly then you will understand why the Z1 screen is preferable

to me the Amoled screen makes everything look unnatural - like everything looks animated instead of real, it might be pretty to look at but it is just so lacking in detail and texture, I tried watching a movie on anS4 and it looked dark saturated and animated - honestly not really what anyone want

It is difficult to fabricate and costly to fabricate large panel using AMOLED. the life of AMOLED is not high to be used in TV..Content mad is for sRGB gamut not for complete visual wavelength... gaming in AMOLED is awesome... other than that Z1 is awesome..
Tested the camera vs my HTC one. Z1 is pretty good Imo.
Screen has poor viewing angles, but who's really going to look at the phone at these angles really....
And the yellowish screen, not as white as my HTC one, but it's not yellow as others are saying. I remember the s3 and note 2 were yellow so idk

Can you post a screenshot of what you got in the test?
I don't think the z1 screen is the best out there but not bad. and much better than the old z software is fine here. fast and snappy camera decent. Not better than my 1020 but better than a lot of phones out there.

I was comparing screen colours to my nexus 4 and they were well off.
There is no way I'm accepting a device that is worse then the model it's replacing.
Let's see what the N5 brings.

Wise choice if you are unhappy with a device then no point keeping it and you really cannot go wrong with the Nexus range anyway.

First off, I wouldn't have gotten the Z1 if I didn't permanently brick my Xperia TX, which was doing an adequate job. I never planned to replace it until I renew my contract in 6 months, by then I would decide what would be available that's worth purchasing...my service provider has a ok to mediocre line up (Galaxy S4, HTC Desire, Motorola X, Nexus 5, Xperia SP), but none of them were interesting to keep.
Long story short, I tried to install a 3rd party ROM for the TX, only to have the screen flip upside down, later screwed up to the point where even the Sony logo does not even appear. It would constantly be stuck in Flash mode and it wouldn't even let you flash the stock firmware. Since the TX is not a Canadian phone, heck, it wouldn't even matter.
So I walked into the Sony Store and got myself a white Xperia Z1 C6906. Sales rep tried to sell me the magnetic charging dock, but I'm not too sure whether it's worth it. I looked at ebay and there seems to be a magnetic charging cable.
Build quality:
Since I had a chance to use a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 for a moment, I can say that the Z1 has a more "solid" feeling to it. I wouldn't say that it's impressive that the Note 3 manages to weigh around the same as the smaller Z1, despite having the bigger screen and slightly bigger battery. The plastic/leather?/aluminium? was the key to save weight. I'm sure if they used the same materials as the Z1, it would be around 185-200g.
Since the Z1 is built like an iPhone, using "premium" materials, there's a certain catch to it. Fragile.
When I got my iPhone 4, the first thing I got was a case to prevent permanent damage to its fragile product. This is the problem with the Z1 as well. Using glass as the front and back could end up from being one of the most beautiful phones into shattered glass. There is a shatter-proof sheet, but that doesn't mean anything. At the end of the day, you would still go out and buy a case, cover it up, end of discussion. You can't really see what the phone looks like anymore.
Now compared to last year's flagship, the T/TX, this is a huge jump. The plastic isn't bad, but plastic is plastic.
Button layout has been revamped, it certainly fits better with your fingers, where it should be naturally. However, I prefer the camera button to be bigger.
Hardware
Apples and oranges.
The T/TX had 1GB of RAM powered by an outdated Snapdragon S4. It performed about the same, if not, better than the Galaxy S3, but those were just benchmarks and they were already a good 6 months too late because the S4 was just announced...adding salt to the wound, the Z was also announced later on.
Compared to my TX, the Z1 just snaps through everything. Pictures load quick, Facebook doesn't lag to refresh news feed, none or barely any stutter in the animations, camera operates smooth, Walkman doesn't stutter it's audio, it just FLOWS.
LED notification is more noticeable than that puny dot on the corner on the T/TX.
The screen I got turns out to be the VA panel, ...why am I not surprised? But I don't have anything to complain as it still looks great, and the bad viewing angles will prevent other people from taking a peek at what I'm doing. Jumping from a 4.6 inch to a 5 inch with more pixels, everything looks sharper. I can't say much about the colour since I think it looks about the same in comparison.
Everyone says built-in battery is a problem, I personally find it to be the only Samsung fanboy argument as the importance of a removable battery is really insignificant. My TX has removable battery, but I never really had to take it out.
The only problem that I have is sound.
No rumoured S-Master MX DAC. I have a Walkman Z, and it sounds tremendous when paired with the Sony XBA-3 along with DSEE, Clear Stereo, and Clear Phase turned on, no equalizer adjustments needed.
For the Z1, volume is weak, bass too dull, vocals too tinny. Turning on ClearAudio+ and Dynamic Normalizer makes it worse. Clear Stereo is ok to use. Other than that, equalizer adjustment is highly recommended to fix this.
As for the speakers, I'm leaning more on the "I don't like it" side. Like the iPhone, the speaker grille for this is an absolute aesthetic b.s.
It isn't loud, nor is it very clear. It sounds slightly muffled, and feels like it came out of 320p YouTube when that's clearly not the case when it's played on headphones. At least they got the speaker placement correct...
Software:
Everything pretty much looks the same minus the camera interface. I've always like the Timescape UI better than any other ones out there so no complaints there. Camera quick-launch makes that funny music when turned on, I personally don't like it. They didn't do it with the T/TX, so why would they add it on now? Please don't say it's to warn the user that your camera function is turned on...at least make it like iPhone's auto turn off if no action has been done. I don't know if Android or Sony has such a function, but I know there is a fix here on xda to get rid of that.
Of course, that's up to whether the user wants to root or not.
As for the X-Reality engine, I would personally leave it off for the following reasons:
Over sharpened video - this seems to occur on some videos, it might be due to the codec or it might be due to its resolution. Leaving it off results in a natural video. Turning the engine on results in some funny white outlines popping everywhere including subtitle text that's just way too harsh to watch. However, playing the factory demo clips like The Smurfs 2 trailer shows no harsh sharpening.
Deceiving images - Everything might look great through that saturated and sharpen filter, but once you put it on the PC, it looks nothing like it anyways. Just like the TX's Bravia Engine, it doesn't improve on anything. If you like this sort of stuff, by all means, leave it on.
Camera
I haven't tested the camera too thoroughly to see how much of an improvement over an Exmor R sensor. The interface and functionality is much better than the TX thanks to better hardware. Picture file size says a lot, and 20 megapixels with only an average 5mb file size tells me there's not much detail being captured. Just like the TX's 13 megapixels, an average file size of 2mb is really disappointing when a 5 megapixel iPhone 4 can churn out pretty much the same thing, if not, better.
Low light has improved drastically thanks to the bigger sensor, but noise reduction seems too harsh or non-existent at times.
The hardware is there, but the software is certainly not making up for it.
Overall
From a hardware standpoint, most of the stuff is great. CPU/GPU is up-to-date, battery size is comparable to the giant Note 3 (not sure about usage though), you get the idea. The stuff about the screen not being PLS or IPS, well, if you're lucky, then consider it a bonus. The VA panel does more than enough if you stare right at it, colour reproduction might not be as good as IPS/PLS, but VA is considered a close contender.
From a software standpoint, if you have been using the previous generation T/TX, nothing should be unexpected as there are no drastic changes that require you to read the manual or anything. Since this phone is still relatively new, its also unsurprising that 3rd party development lacks compared to the insta-popular S4 and Note 3 where there are just pages of stuff to go through. If you don't mod, it's already pretty decent at its stock form.
Price is probably the only killer. $699 Canadian is steep. Yes, Rogers sells it for $599, but I want white and I don't use Bell or Telus, so suck it.
Contract price goes for much less...but it's contract price, ain't nobody got time for that.
With that money, you're open to a lot of top-end options like the Note 3, G2, even the Nexus 5 which is half the price of this. With CES just around the corner, prices will start dropping soon.
Nonetheless, it's still an excellent phone. Now I'm off to buy the Spigen GLAS.tR SLIM from Japan
It feels fragile, but I assure its not... I have seen a review where it was dropped from 5ft 3 times in succession and the glass didn't even chip... well yes it did chip a little, 1 mm on the corner, hardly noticeable... never see any other phone with stand this... all Note 3, G2 Iphone 5s all broken screen on the first drop...
But z1 was the only phone not working after the drop.... Sooo it's a pretty brick now.

actually those guys are idiots, they didn't test the device before and after every drop (like they always do on samsungs and iphones). so we all don't know when did it actually stop working...
I personally saw one drop from 5 ft and its still working, just a little scratches here and there...
Dropped mine / fell out of my pocket > 10 times now. Some scratches in the alumunium frame, some in the protective stock anti shatter layer. Overall I'm VERY impressed how resilient it is for its looks. On the other hand, it has to win the award for the most slippery phone to date yet. Carrying it in cloth trouser pockets equals phone on the ground when you stand up fast.

Let me tell you that I had the same problem as well. Videos were extra sharp with jagged edges when XR was turned on and it wasn't visible on the pre-loaded videos. Like you said, turning it off would make it better but the colors won't be vivid as when XR is on. So I became frustrated and checked with a demo piece available at the store. The demo had the same issue too. I thought it was a problem with all the devices. Then I replaced mine due to pinch to zoom issues with my Z1. When I received the new one, it DIDN'T have the sharpness problem as before. So I was thinking that it could have been a panel or hardware problem. My second device went under a replacement as well. The third device I received didn't have the problem too. So I guess it affects some of the devices and your's has been affected. The Z1 I have now is very good when watching videos with XR turned on and colors pop out actually I request you to check your's with other devices at the store or with your friends if they have one.

I actually tried it again and it seems that the X-Reality over-sharpens 720p video while 1080p seems perfectly fine. I played a 1080p .mkv with XR turned on and it was completely fine.

Yeah, but if I move around while sitting the phone "slides" to the edge of my pocket. Then the little tilt backwards to gain momentum before standing up sends it flying. Damned shallow pockets!

It works on YouTube and with MX player too but first you have to go to decoder and tick all the H/W+ options and untick all the S/F boxes, in some video sites similar to youtube you can choose MX to be the video player as well.

For me x-reality only do things better, here's an example of a 720p video showing the difference
You can clearly see that the second pic is a lot sharper especially if you look at the text and colors are more vivid too. I don't know if you see that as something negative but for me it definitely is an improvement over the original video.
Well at some scenes perticular details get oversharpened and look awfull...

We all know Z1 suffers from viewing angle is kind of pointless to compare its screen with Z2 when its is tilted
Sent from my C6902 using xda app-developers app
I know the panel type of Z1 is brighter than everything else, I think that picture kind fo shows.
I've seen some other comparison photos... Straight on, they look almost identical. It's only when the Z1 becomes tilted you can then tell it's a... Z1. I know overall the Z2 screen is better, but didn't seem like a huge difference to me.
Some more pic with Z1 Compact:
well it's known that Z1 sucks at large angles, but look at the only two pictures when all three phones are viewed from zero angle, the Z1 has the best details and colors
The screen of the Z1 is fantastic, everyone knows of the Z1's crap viewing angles, that's why Sony fixed them on the Z2 obviously

Well, they matter, especially in some scenarios. Scenario 1: I'm sitting at my desktop with the phone in front, something comes up and I want to check it out without lifting the phone up. With the Z1, that's a problem, since things appear washed out, making it hard to make out some things sometimes. Scenario 2: when I'm in bed and have to do the same as above, that is looking at a notification or something without lifting the phone up. Scenario 3: you're trying to watch a video with someone on the same device, and at least one guy can have problems viewing it from the side. These aren't everyday scenarios, but they are present.
I totally understand that some people don't have a problem with viewing angles, but some of us do, and it's not just hipster-y excuses. My main issue is that Sony has been dawdling while viewing angles have been perfected by all other manufacturers since 2011/2012 (except LG on Nexus phones, they do need to work on it a tad more). Good to see the Z2 finally fixes that, and I hope it continues on future flagships as well. Also hope the glass on the back goes away and/or becomes less slippery, that's a huge issue with Sony's current phones, I'm too afraid to use my Z1 without a case, haha.

well those were the bad points of the XZ, i agree with your scenarios, but it's excatly those points which i feel are just fine with the z1.
i wated a dozen movies on my z1 with my GF and niether of us noticed any washing, it just looks splendid, and while on the table it does seem a bit washed out, but not in a waythat makes it difficult to read the screen...
on the old XZ it was a problem... but with Z1 it's good enough. and splendid when you look at it from the front...

The thing with me is that I've used phones with great displays recently, so with the Z1 I only notice the bad sides, hehe. It does look good when looked at from the front, but again, it doesn't impress me after using those other phones.
I actually see the viewing angles as a plus. Means friends can't see as easily what I'm doing on my phone if they're trying to peak.
No downside to it eithe really, not like I hold my phone in a tilting position.
My viewing angles arent great either but people can still read what im doing from most angles so no privacy there

Was I the only one to think the Z1 actually looks better than both the Compact and the Z2?
Im more than satisfied with the screen on the 1. Personally i see no reason at all to upgrade to 2. 100 more Mhz, bigger screen which is better for a media center phone and 1gb more POINTLESS ram, whats so good to justify buying a new phone?
Should the Z2 came with things like smart camera usage or touch pressure sensitivity or be able to read finger while hovering -but not- touching the screen, id call that a big syep forward for Sony. Atm it offers features that feel 10 years old compared to Samsung's technologie.
Honestly, my curiosity is that, Z2 adopted better screen like IPS with better views angles. It has bigger battery, 3200 instead of 3000, and 2.3 ghz instead 2.2, so let's use some down cloccking App to put 2.3ghz to 2.2, at the end it will be perfectly the same as Z1, BUT, with latest Screen on Z2 it will consume less energy than Z1? So if I get 5 hours on Screen with Z1 how long I will get on Z2? 5,2 inces don't make such a difference anyway...so any Idea?
We need to wait for proper testing to see if the small increase in battery actually improves battery life, keeps it about the same (given the faster CPU/GPU, bigger screen etc), or actually makes it slightly worse.
Personally I don't think there's going to be much difference.
Obviously I don't have the device yet, but I am seriously considering it and searched for every one's experiences and reviews here and there and so far I have found these issues:
In this video showing the gaming experience, the device obviously lags and drops frames to the point o being unplayable when you play the GTA San Andreas with the maximum graphic settings, which is odd considering the chipset and the lower resolution it pushes versus other 801/Adreno 330 devices : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubC1e0ScghU

it is rated way low. In fact all Z series devices seem to be lacking power in headphone output and are no where to be find at the top, it may be the result of water/dust proofing the device, but I don't know for sure. (Though the loudspeaker is pretty good.)

1. The vibration strength is EXTREMELY weak.
2. The front facing "stereo" speakers..... Honestly they suck.
3.The z3c is no where near as comfortable as the moto x is to hold. Now i'm not saying the z3c is uncomfortable by any stretch. It's just that the moto x IS just that nice in the hand for me.

- The flat back is uncomfortable and makes it easy to drop the phone, especially coming from my Moto X / Moto G which were very comfortable to hold.
- The screen is brighter and easier to read in daylight than my Moto X, but the viewing angles are pretty bad, especially at diagonals to the screen rectangle (the colors wash out very badly in this case). It's tolerable, but my Moto X's screen was definitely better.

I'm a little worried about screen rigidity. After reading the other post about pressing the screen and seeing a rainbow and then seeing a YouTube video about a popping sound when you press on the screen.

ISSUES THAT I NEED RESOLUTION FOR:
1. cannot write directly to my sd card from an external pen drive - why why why? especially when the internal memory is only 16gb
2. 3rd party toggle for mobile data doesn't work - only the one in the highly inconvenient right side notification bar (have since overcome that using Notification Toggle app)
3. Need a faster charger - just wondering if the Samsung 2Amp charger will actually charge it quicker than the supplied 1.5A one?

I solved my laggy keyboards by clearing the cache of each and every keyboard app I have. Works fine now! Silly me.
On another issue, does anybody hear a faint "60-cycle hum" when your earphones/headphones are plugged in? Its only very pronounced on the right though.

This could be caused by SmartConnect, I found a fix in the Sony forum (Can't paste the link):
This removed the strange 3 second hum. I've disabled SmartConnect for now ...

Any one feel free to add to this list if you find the device lacking or problematic in any way (before or after the purchase).

Obviously I don't have the device yet, but I am seriously considering it and searched for every one's experiences and reviews here and there and so far I have found two issues:
In this video showing the gaming experience, the device obviously lags and drops frames to the point o being unplayable when you play the GTA San Andreas with the maximum graphic settings, which is odd considering the chipset and the lower resolution it pushes versus other 801/Adreno 330 devices : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubC1e0ScghU

I wouldn't say it's 'unplayable', but I get your point. I suppose if you absolutely have to play games on ultra max settings, that would be an issue. I think most people would be willing to turn it down a notch and get good performance though.
[*]The other one is the quality and loudness of the headphone output which is quite poor if we compare it based on the phonearena audio benchmarks: http://www.phonearena.com/phones/benchmarks
it is rated way low. In fact all Z series devices seem to be lacking power in headphone output and are no where to be find at the top, it may be the result of water/dust proofing the device, but I don't know for sure. (Though the loudspeaker is pretty good.)

I have a Moto X (2013). The speaker is loud, but at the highest two or three levels, the speakers distorts a lot, and I physically feel my phone vibrating. It doesn't distort with headphones in though tbf. Personally, I'll take slightly less volume for better quality. You can also always use an app like Equalizer to increase volume.

I order one form my wife and I this morning. Neither one of these things concern me. My biggest concern is the durability of the glass. This will be my first phone with glass on the front and back. It's Gorilla Glass 3 on both sides correct? I know it's not indestructible though. And I don't like the low panorama settings on the camera. Other than that I'm good to go.
I think its dragontrail glass which is another equivalent of gorilla glass. I don't think there will be much difference.
GTA isn't very optimized. You can't play it with full graphics on any mobile phone lagfree.
Also the Z3c got a new fw certified, so the guy in the video runs the game on a pre-release firmware.
no LTE band 12, for t-mobiles new 700mhz band.

I myself have been very impressed with the glass on my Xperia Acro S, I've had it for about a year and a half now, never used a screen protector or case and I work as a landscaper so the phone has been in my pocket unprotected along with sand, dust and other debris and it only has one very small scratch which is quite difficult to notice, and maybe a dozen of even harder to notice micro scratches. I've also dropped the phone several times on very hard floors and it there are only a few rough spots on the chrome-like rim. But the display glass still looks like new, unless you hold it directly under a very strong light right after thoroughly cleaning the glass. It has dragontrail glass I think. Though the glass sits slightly deeper than the frame, which helps. I think with the Z3C, the glass is level with or ever so slightly raised above the frame.

Volume level easily fixed after root. My Z1C with volume mod and V4A is the best-sounding mobile device I've ever owned, so expect similar quality from the new lineup

How is the Z1C with the V4A? I'm using VV4A with my XZ, but there are so many hiccups that it's almost impossible to listen to music (Unless I edit some things)

Sounds lovely, nice deep base with lots of detail in the mid-high also
Sorry can't help with your issues, my only advice would be to disable all the V4A features in settings and re-enable one by one.

I didn't meant how it was sounding, but if you had any technical problems or so
And it's not a V4A issue, many people have the same problem, even without V4A
Oh well, that will be history soon!!!:victory:
The only thing holding me back from buying the z3C is that the screen is not Full HD... I have the HTC One M7 now and it's just such a lovely screen... Please convince me otherwise...!

Unless you are holding the phone flat against your face or use it under a magnifying glass, you won't see the difference.
Additionally, 720p HD improves performance and battery life compared to full-HD.
Also, with full-HD on a screen of this size, interface elements and buttons in some apps and games would be so tiny that they'd be practically unusable.

it's just like @ degraaff said. You're falling for the gimmick, you really won't see the difference AT ALL! If the phone had a full HD screen, it would only make the phone worse and not better.

I notice that my husband's Galaxy has a prettier screen than my Moto X. Mind you, I'm perfectlyhappy with the screen on the Moto X, but sid by side, te difference is obvious.

Which Galaxy? There are so many. Are you sure you aren't talking about better colors? Samsung tends to use AMOLED screens, which have those very deep blacks and over-saturated colours.

I think it's the s3. And yes, the colors are much more vibrant. But it is also a larger screen, and it looks sharper.

The Moto X screen was rated pretty average for the previous generation so I'm not too surprised that the S3 looks better. Also the S3 has the same resolution as the X so resolution plays no part in the comparision.

Motorola Moto X: 4.7 inch, 1280 x 720 pixels
Samsung Galaxy s3: 4.8 inch, 1280 x 720 pixels
Both have the same resolution - the same as Xperia Z3 Compact - and none of them are full-HD.
The Galaxy S3 uses a pentile AMOLED panel, which are known for having less sharpness than TN or IPS with the same resolution. So I don't know what is going on with the phones of you and your husband. Logic tells me the Moto X should have a sharper display than the Galaxy S3.
