Does anyone noticed the Ubuntu Touch? - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

I found HTC Desire Z could run this new OS. How about our phone?

I think it is possible, but someone have to do it. Have you tried the Ubuntu on your DesireZ? I was exited when it came out but there was so much hassling to get it up and running so I settled down and begin to wait easier set up. Back then I used my DZ as daily driver so the requirement of ADB connection to run Ubuntu on the phone made it, well, non-portable which was no go for me. And in the mean time Flinny was making great Jelly Bean ROMs in form of CM11, which I was using. Around the Flinny's builds 14-18 I was switching back and fort with DesireZ and u8800pro, until I found that u8800pro could run the latest versions of the Android more smoothly.
But about the Ubuntu Touch, it was found laggy in DesireZ. Maybe because the Ubuntu suggest (or requires) the phone to have at least dual-core CPU. Our U8800Pro shares almost identical specs to DesireZ, little difference with CPU clock speed. At u8800pro runs at 1Ghz while DesireZ at 800Mhz. But with overclocking I have seen the u8800pro running at 1901Mhz and also DesireZ got around 1800/1900Mhz too. After all I still found the u8800pro run more smoothly at latest version of the Android (JB and KitKat). So maybe the Ubuntu will perform a little better in Huawei than in the HTC. But I consider porting the Ubuntu Touch for the u8800(pro) unnecessary, there is definitely a lot of things to fix which takes time and I'm sure it is going to be laggy anyway. We have to admit that this device is old, it can't run latest ROMs smoothly.

I don't have a Desire Z,so I never tried.
I think you are right,Ubuntu will not be as smooth as Android on our old devices.
I have a Xperia Z1 now.Hope I can experience this new OS someday,I'm quite interested in the Ubuntu.

I'm interested about Ubuntu phone too. Shame that Indiegogo campaign didn't raised the amount of funds what Canonical was requesting. Have you read of this: Meizu MX4 with Ubuntu Touch makes an appearance ? Looks pretty neat. So in that manner it would be nice to have some kind of Ubuntu Touch port to test the user interface and make some kind of opinion is it good to use etc. before going to buy eg. that phone. As I think I have to wait very long time before that or other Ubuntu phones hits to stores here where I live.

HD2 speed in comparison to other androids

hi guys, i was just curious how fast the hd2 is compared to the likes of nexus s sgs and desire hd on cm7 and miui. any input would be greatly appreciated. thnx!

wow, didnt expect HD to be faster than DHD! thanks for the input! btw, just out of interest, how do the screens compare between those three devices? im guessing SGS2 would have far better screen
Galaxy S2 is faster, but some programs may start faster on the HD2, and I know that's strange! and it happens randomly. probably related to background processes or something.
HD2 is also not always faster than DHD, it's just the huge amount of tweaking the HD2 ROMs get that they feel faster, but that performance is ROM-dependent.
If you get two tweaked ROMs, one on the HD2 and the other on DHD, and both from the same developer (Core team makes ROMs for both as far as I can remember), I bet the DHD will be faster.
Samsung screens IMHO are the best on the market, but having to deal with a none-sense droid phone with not much of custom ROMs is a pain.

I run NAND Android on my HD2 and have been running Android on mine for close to 9 months. Granted I run a non-sense ROM (Hyperdroid-CM7) as my daily driver. But I tested dozens of NAND Android ROMs for the HD2 and it run pretty much all ROMs very smoothly with the exception of the Sense 3.0 ROMs, It was laggy with those ROMs. The MIUI ROMs run pretty smooth on the HD2 but you do have an occasional lag here and there, but I stress the word occasional.
As for your original question the HD2 can hang with just about any native Android device on the market with the same or close to the same specs. Now keep in mind I am not talking about any of new devices sporting dual core processors with bigger RAM and mor memory.

The only real lag was when you would first open a app sometimes it would take somtimes the a second or two to open. It would also happen when you would be transitioning from one function to another, you know like when you opened the phone or camera. But it was always just a second or two delay/lag nothing that is intolerable. Or nothing most other native Android devices do from time to time. But the Sense 3.0 ROMs were borderline intolerable, at least for me.

New to android And Gnote!

Hello,
Just got my phone yesterday and this is my first android phone i am pretty sure my previous phone Windows phone was a lot lot better at most of the things and performance too!!
some times i see lag in scrolling menus, etc! on a Dual core it was hard to believe but anyways i hope it gets better with ICS soon.
So at the moment can anyone tell me where to get good apps (marketplace sucks to find apps)
and some ways to improve battery usage with keeping phone in push mode?
I would highly appericiate if anyone can give me a clue of good ICS custom ROM build there are so many builds and its highly confusing.
There's only one ICS thread for the Note, and it's on Development. About apps for performance and battery, i suggest applying either custom kernel (AbyssNote's or FM) and using SetCpu or Tegrak for overclock and undervolt. Custom launchers might help too, being Go Launcher and ADW two of the most famous. CPUSpy might help detecting any apps that are unlawfuly sucking juice or strange core behavior.
As a last Note, tough (pun intended) your dual core Android will never be as fluid as your 800mhz WP. That's the price we pay for the ability to customize absolutely everything.

Amen to that. Viamonte is absolutely right, some of IPhone and window phone users have little idea what a good Android phone can do. Anyway welcome to Android, it's worth the switch.

No idea, but it isn't. No matter how much you customize and alter your Android, you'll always find instances where it doesn't wake, or lag on scrolling, or screen changing, or whatever. After using a Titan, a N9 and a 4S for extended periods of time, I can easily say that's an Android problem, no matter how good the phone or the software is.
Except ICS, I haven't tried it yet...
Yes no android I've ever used was as fluid as an Iphone sadly.
I used a Desire and an HD on 2.0 and 2.1 and now have the Note on 2.3.
Android 4.0 is really stable, my kid plays games with my phone and he got gb almost everytime reboot twice a day, but ICS haven't even once rebooted in a month. And android 4.0 is really fluid, due to hw-acceleration, but still not 100% fluid i think, maybe because i have unofficially ics on i9000

Update to the latest GB firmware (LA4?), it will resolve all your lag issues.

Yes i saw that ICS thread but i was little set back to see it isnt stable yet and being stated as it wont get camera till official ICS rom so i am looking at a no camera rom for at least 2 months for sure so cant dive into ICS as of now.
Your reply helps a lot
Was thinking if i can directly go to install any custom rom although i found more than 9 ROMs on the first page and all looked so same but not being good with technical of android i was thinking if you can suggest me a good rom.
I dont care about the theme and visuals at all i need cutting edge performance and battery life thats the only thing needed/
Do let me know if you have any specific rom in mind.
I guess N7000 and your i9000 both are not the same so probably i cant install ICS in GNote (at least not the stable one right?)

Htc HD2: Best phone ever

A few days ago I was looking a some older threads some 2 year olds and they were thinking of how to port android on it. And now our HD2 has been able to run android 4 on it. I think it was my lucky day I bought this device. Its one of the best devices ever made.
I am able to play GTA3 flawlessly on it which todays high end devices do.
HTC should really bring out HTC HD3 . Successor to one of the best phone ever
True. I bought hd2 abt a year ago, and lost it. And I was about to buy a new phone, but wen I started thinking abt which phone to buy, I got so confused that I just bought a hd2 once again, no one can replace it.

Depends on ROM and configurations.
In the past the same models phone was the same for everyone, but today the same models are completely different, thanks to their strong software customization

It's a great phone for then and even now as an introduction but it's screen lacks colours and cpu/gpu are getting dated.
Mind you I still have 2 Hd2's and now exclusively use a Galaxy S which at 4"" is peeeeeeeeeeeeerfect for me especially with CM7 installed....one hand perfecto operation with swype....

hTc seriously stuffed up with the models introduced after the HD2. There has not been one model that surpasses the legendary HD2 and that's saying a lot. Maybe next year hTc will get it right..maybe...

I tried loads of roms and configs to get GTA3 working and nothing worked, Just kept getting lags and closes.
If you deny its a lie what rom/config you using?
GTA is working fine on the rom i got... games get at least +10fps on HWA.
Yes GTA 3 works perfectly. Try tytung or Xylographs HWA ROMS . Gettinh 45+ fps in it . Plus the battery drain is also so good. Try those roms
And yes no customizations whatever its running fast without any lags with stock in those rom
And sorry I wrote that I played that game,
. No I seldom play games but it runs flwlessly in those rom I know that

P.S The HD2 is running adreno 200 for which it is impossible to play GTA3. plus only 1ghz processor against DUAL-CORES. Ill post a video soon just let me get done with this ROM.
I think well have a master piece as soon as Dorimanx gets to ICS HWA. He did it with GB. Lets see what monster he will create now.

Arrogance and ignorance, have you tweaked kgsl ? have you tweaked pmem ? have you tweaked ashmem ? have you tweaked binder ? have you tweaked mm ? is the kernel using latest drivers from qualcomm/caf ?
Saga kernel is not even using 3.x kgsl, on leo which is using A MUCH older kernel, we have kgsl 3.8, so stop giving random excuses for the failure on your part.
Have you even tried playing GTA 3 on a hd2 with ics ? probably not (you don't even own one according to your sig).

I'm just puzzled to how GTA runs flawlessly on this phone? I have seen MANY videos on YouTube of GTA and from what I can tell, it doesn't look too impressive...
No, I never said I tweaked the ROM. I'm saying the ROMs I've used have been tweaked for performance by devs which might even have the tweaks you mentioned? We have devs like the Virtuous Team, MDJ, Capychimp etc.
Anyway, looking forward to the video.

There you go, was kinda hard controlling stuff with one finger and all the while doing it through the camera's viewfinder. Just installed the game and started a new story, So no game *tweaks* etc applied, graphics were the default settings from the game. The phone is not overclocked.
I am already working on kgsl-3d0 v3.9 so we should see another performance bump soon
Battery is awesome too, 25 hours and still at 56% battery with no airplane mode, data on throughout, Wifi for ~12 hours.

Froyo vs ICS vs Gingerbread which is best for performance?

Hi all I just ordered an HD2 from Ebay, previous phone was an LG Optimus V and it's quite an upgrade even though the HD2 is 2+ years old.
I want to go the Android route with it but I absolutely want the best performance I can get for the phone. I was wondering which version of the Android OS is more optimized for the HD2? For example, I've seen Youtube videos of Froyo on the HD2 and it was very smooth and perfect, I've also seen videos of ICS on the HD2 and one was kinda laggy and the other seemed to run smooth.
What is the recommended Android version to put on the HD2? Thank you so much, I'm happy to be apart of this historic community of the HD2.

Ics is the best for gaming performance hands down, but some of the applications may not be optimized for speed on the hd2 (hacked YouTube and gingerbread apps work prefectly smooth on ics roms)

Will KitKat give new life to HD2?

KitKat just officially released. It is specially optimized for older devices with 512MB RAM, just like our HD2.
http://developer.android.com/about/versions/kitkat.html
That sounds like an extremely good news, maybe it's time for me to start using my HD2 again.
Considering one of the main pushes for kitkat is that it is built for devices with 512mb of ram, I think it could be very good for the HD2
I seriously hope HD2 development will be revived by KitKat.
HD2 development is going slower and slower as the day goes by...

I too hope that somebody brings stable 4.4 onto the HTC HD2 as that will make it much more usable than current ported 4.3 version.
I am still using my HTC HD2 full time simply because no other device can do what it can do.
It really is an epic device and if we can bring 4.4 with only 512 MB RAM requirement then it will really fly.

rubbish statement tbh the phone is still by far top spec compared to the cheap rubbish that cell operators offer on new deals
compared to a sg2 or htc one v its still good value
dam i hope some devs port it over as we can have both nand and sd builds now any ways
im sure its a lighter build anyway evin if its not there is s shed load of turd that can be trimmed to lighting the rom
hopefully its available soon.
The new KitKat seems to be the perfect OS (according to the info) and I hope it will be ported to the HD2 soon
I think some dude is working on it.

Not only is KitKat optimized for 512 MB RAM devices like the HD2, it also gets rid of the VM so the HD2 should fly with 4.4 !
Hope somebody is working on this as I can't wait to test it out.
It really won't be laggy, I hope, due to so many optimizations in 4.4 for slower / older phones.
yea i would really like too, to use the HD2 again. So I do really hope someone will make a stable 4.4 rom for it
The issue with the hd2 and all the other snapdragon s1 devices is that the adreno 200 is awful. It can't handle the gpu acceleration of ICS and newer at all. Compare the performance of a nexus one to a nexus s on an ICS or jellybean rom. The difference is gigantic.

I'm a bit disappointed about the KitKat. I managed to get it booting on my hTC Incredible S: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2519414, and it doesn't as fast as I thought. I have to say, it's a bit laggy. I hope, it'll get better if I put some optimalizations in, but the first experiences aren't so good.

The issue with the hd2 and all the other snapdragon s1 devices is that the adreno 200 is awful. It can't handle the gpu acceleration of ICS and newer at all. Compare the performance of a nexus one to a nexus s on an ICS or jellybean rom. The difference is gigantic.

Well, I don't use apps that need GPU acceleration so that is not a big problem. Or, turn off all animations on JB interface.

I'm a bit disappointed about the KitKat. I managed to get it booting on my hTC Incredible S: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2519414, and it doesn't as fast as I thought. Well, it still has to be faster than JB, I bet ! It is now RAM optimized and gets rid of the virtual machine so that means that old devices like our HTC HD2 with slow CPU and little RAM will work even smoother now.
The overall GUI may still not be that smooth due to Adreno 200 but individual apps should theoretically run much smoother than before like browser or office or other low resource apps.
JB is nice but KitKat will be even better, if somebody makes a stable 4.4 CM11 rom for Leo !
Check this out, runs really good.
It will give a new life for you phone

A how-to for dummies tutorial would be great?
