wow, didnt expect HD to be faster than DHD! thanks for the input! btw, just out of interest, how do the screens compare between those three devices? im guessing SGS2 would have far better screen
Galaxy S2 is faster, but some programs may start faster on the HD2, and I know that's strange! and it happens randomly. probably related to background processes or something.
HD2 is also not always faster than DHD, it's just the huge amount of tweaking the HD2 ROMs get that they feel faster, but that performance is ROM-dependent.
If you get two tweaked ROMs, one on the HD2 and the other on DHD, and both from the same developer (Core team makes ROMs for both as far as I can remember), I bet the DHD will be faster.
Samsung screens IMHO are the best on the market, but having to deal with a none-sense droid phone with not much of custom ROMs is a pain.

I run NAND Android on my HD2 and have been running Android on mine for close to 9 months. Granted I run a non-sense ROM (Hyperdroid-CM7) as my daily driver. But I tested dozens of NAND Android ROMs for the HD2 and it run pretty much all ROMs very smoothly with the exception of the Sense 3.0 ROMs, It was laggy with those ROMs. The MIUI ROMs run pretty smooth on the HD2 but you do have an occasional lag here and there, but I stress the word occasional.
As for your original question the HD2 can hang with just about any native Android device on the market with the same or close to the same specs. Now keep in mind I am not talking about any of new devices sporting dual core processors with bigger RAM and mor memory.

The only real lag was when you would first open a app sometimes it would take somtimes the a second or two to open. It would also happen when you would be transitioning from one function to another, you know like when you opened the phone or camera. But it was always just a second or two delay/lag nothing that is intolerable. Or nothing most other native Android devices do from time to time. But the Sense 3.0 ROMs were borderline intolerable, at least for me.

Ill start by saying this is just a poll or rather an opinion getter. I prefer Stock froyo because it imo operates better and looks better.
When I first started I like stock better because it was way more customizable. Nowadays I'm using sense version by mdeejay because I felt he fixed the freeze issues completely. Stability was a big thing for me. Personally, sense looks much better but I hate that u can't customize it. once the freeze issue is fixed in stock versions I might go back.
I like both and usually run several builds at once, but I'm using this one because of its amazing battery life.

i always had stock froyo but am liking this sense. only thing i cant figure out is the send a contact directly to voicemail? where is it!?!?!?!??!?! anybody know?
Prefer Sense. Only wish I could have same look I do in Winmo; GTX, CHT, etc.
Stock froyo is cleaner. So I can customize, sence ui feels heavy
Sent from my Htcclay's SuperDesire using XDA App
I used to only like vanilla froyo builds, but Sense has really grown on me, especially the new Sense from the Desire HD builds. Now I use Sense build with Launcher Pro and it's just about perfect.
Sense I'd say, although the main aim is to eliminate windows altogether, I rather likes the HTC sense GUI, and the sense build does bring it back to life in a way and right now I'm using a beautiful Android build, which i have to say, been using it for a while now and hassle free, no freezes, no lag, runs better then most android phones which is quite remarkable considering its running of the SD card.
Stock for me.....and yes my hd2 Android runs better and faster than any other phone I've come across all far.....
I really do not think you can beat an hd2 android...

just as a sidewinder... Sense, Stock, Ubuntu, MeeGo, or WP7? lol I personally havent played around with MeeGo or WP7 because they havent came out yet although they do look nice. I also think that WP7 will be an epic fail unless they can update their marketplace, that seems to be the attention grabber APPS!! ha
at any rate Linux is a definite winner in my book whether android ubuntu fedora or what ever. I just don't like MS poking its finger into everything
But i digress
I was always a fan of Stock, but since I've put on Hyperdroid Sense, I haven't looked back since. It's just so smooth, battery life is great and everything just works,... you can't argue with that.

Vanilla Is where its at...I personally don't like sense at all...I've used evo and desire hd builds but I always go back to stock froyo...currently my brother Is using my HD2, I have Nexus 2.2.1 running on it and feel like it can't get any better..

I like sense. It's just a matter of personaly perference. I like the HTC eye candy and stock Android is a little boring for my taste.
But if you ask me to choose between stock android vs. motoblur/whatever the samsung overlay is called/whatever the Sony-Ericsson overlay is called/whatever the Dell overlay is called - I'd choose the stock android every time.

how's games performance on hd2 android as compared to desire? is it the same or more lag? just saw a vid of rafdroid hd 3 on hd2 and seems to have some lag while playing asphalt 5 hd
watched more vids here

yup seems it's lagging... is it normal?? or it depends on the android rom u r using.. are there lags on sd android roms?
yeah there is more lag if ur running a sd android rom compared to a nand android rom

I would say performance is the same with recent SD builds as with NAND builds. I've used both NAND and SD builds extensively... it depends a lot on the build. I guess it may depend on what SD card you're using too, but actually most high quality SD cards have faster read and write speeds than the NAND that the HD2 has... random access speed on good SD cards are as good as the HD2's NAND.
Desire HD builds may run a little better on NAND, but not by much if at all. AOSP and CM builds definitely run the same on both, though.
To the OP.... game performance will depend on what build you're using, but from my experience it seems to run games almost as good as a Desire. Desire may run a little better... depends on if it's running stock or if it's tweaked for performance. My friend has a desire that's tweaked and runs much better than any HD2 I've ever seen. But the HD2 can usually match a stock desire in performance.

thx for the replies. Are there overclocked roms on hd2 to boost performance?
There are overclocked roms that boost your cpu speed up to 1.5ghz. No need tho. I have mine running at 900mhz and save a little battery. All my games run smooth. I got a stock desire hd rom on nand. My co-worker has the normal desire and his phone lags and hangs constantly. His is 100% stock from o2 germany.

If you want to run android then skip the desire and get a desire hd. If you want to dual boot android and windows then go with the hd2. If you just want android without dual boot then it's better to buy a native android system.

Not sure if this helps but I have just bought one of these microsd cards
http://www.allmemorycards.co.uk/acatalog/SDSDQY-8192-E11M.html
And I can confirm that both Windows Phone 7 and my SD Android ROM run flawlessly, before I was using a class 6 Samsung which I thought would be perfect for the job, but I was getting slow down and restarts in WP7 and the odd game skip in Android.
Now I Don't get a single skip whilst playing GT racing HD or PES2011 on Android and WP7 runs so smooth and fast, In my opinion there is no other choice on the market to be able to run Android and WP7 so well if at all...HD2 what else is there

Well simply put;
Compaired to the MDJ CM7 and Cotulla's Stock Rom all roms I've tested this month(about 5) are laggy, slow, have errors(applications stop working and that kind of stuff) and some don't even start. Therefor I was also thinking about creating a topic like this one, simply because it is a pain to find a good one out here these days...
No disrespect on the cooks,.. Your all hero's!

the only rom ive personally got running as smooth as my mother's ipad, dads iphone 3gs, or brothers iphone 4, is hyperdroid gbx. it runs actually fastER than both iphones in side by side comparisons (angering my family), and about the same as the ipad in overall smoothness. battery is phenominal, the only rom ive gotten to last all day with my heavy usage i like to play with my phone a lot (for standby 3-5ma depending on apps running)
3 mA in standby on desireZ 3.5
I think that's the winner
also I wouldnt dare to say it is not smooth or smth
I've also tried few ROMs and for me the best one is Rafdroid HD 3.1 Lite edition (without ext partition on SD). Everything works smooth out of the box.

The best ROM for NAND I've come across. HyperDroid GBX
It is extremely light. only 60MB installation zip
It is extremely fast and responsive
It has great battery life.
I used the phone extensively for about 16 hours (all day) with about an hour of calls, around 30 SMS' some EDGE usage, a lot of wifi usage at home. It was still at 70% by the end of the day! If that isn't amazing, I don't know what is
Manages around 2-5mA in standby.
Oh and any way I can get AmeriCanDroid on NAND? :O
I miss cyanogenmod
Thanks for your support! What a great community!

Moto-Mytouch4G. I've been using it for a month and its beautiful. The only one I've tried where the battery last the day for me. Very smooth very well laid out. Great nand!!!
My choice is Rafdroid 3.1 with ext4 partition. In stand by mode I have 2-4 mAh...
I think, best ROM is MDJ Cyanogenmod 7,smooth and most battery saver ROM what I have tested with lot of settings.
IMO, this is by FAR the best/smoothest build out. I've tried many, and this ROM is the baddest of all. The battery consumption is better, and all around functionality is good.

It's a great phone for then and even now as an introduction but it's screen lacks colours and cpu/gpu are getting dated.
Mind you I still have 2 Hd2's and now exclusively use a Galaxy S which at 4"" is peeeeeeeeeeeeerfect for me especially with CM7 installed....one hand perfecto operation with swype....

GTA is working fine on the rom i got... games get at least +10fps on HWA.
Yes GTA 3 works perfectly. Try tytung or Xylographs HWA ROMS . Gettinh 45+ fps in it . Plus the battery drain is also so good. Try those roms
And yes no customizations whatever its running fast without any lags with stock in those rom
And sorry I wrote that I played that game,

Arrogance and ignorance, have you tweaked kgsl ? have you tweaked pmem ? have you tweaked ashmem ? have you tweaked binder ? have you tweaked mm ? is the kernel using latest drivers from qualcomm/caf ?
Saga kernel is not even using 3.x kgsl, on leo which is using A MUCH older kernel, we have kgsl 3.8, so stop giving random excuses for the failure on your part.
Have you even tried playing GTA 3 on a hd2 with ics ? probably not (you don't even own one according to your sig).

There you go, was kinda hard controlling stuff with one finger and all the while doing it through the camera's viewfinder. Just installed the game and started a new story, So no game *tweaks* etc applied, graphics were the default settings from the game. The phone is not overclocked.
I am already working on kgsl-3d0 v3.9 so we should see another performance bump soon
Battery is awesome too, 25 hours and still at 56% battery with no airplane mode, data on throughout, Wifi for ~12 hours.
Hi all I just ordered an HD2 from Ebay, previous phone was an LG Optimus V and it's quite an upgrade even though the HD2 is 2+ years old.
I want to go the Android route with it but I absolutely want the best performance I can get for the phone. I was wondering which version of the Android OS is more optimized for the HD2? For example, I've seen Youtube videos of Froyo on the HD2 and it was very smooth and perfect, I've also seen videos of ICS on the HD2 and one was kinda laggy and the other seemed to run smooth.
What is the recommended Android version to put on the HD2? Thank you so much, I'm happy to be apart of this historic community of the HD2.

Ics is the best for gaming performance hands down, but some of the applications may not be optimized for speed on the hd2 (hacked YouTube and gingerbread apps work prefectly smooth on ics roms)
