Ill start by saying this is just a poll or rather an opinion getter. I prefer Stock froyo because it imo operates better and looks better.
When I first started I like stock better because it was way more customizable. Nowadays I'm using sense version by mdeejay because I felt he fixed the freeze issues completely. Stability was a big thing for me. Personally, sense looks much better but I hate that u can't customize it. once the freeze issue is fixed in stock versions I might go back.
I like both and usually run several builds at once, but I'm using this one because of its amazing battery life.

i always had stock froyo but am liking this sense. only thing i cant figure out is the send a contact directly to voicemail? where is it!?!?!?!??!?! anybody know?
Prefer Sense. Only wish I could have same look I do in Winmo; GTX, CHT, etc.
Stock froyo is cleaner. So I can customize, sence ui feels heavy

I used to only like vanilla froyo builds, but Sense has really grown on me, especially the new Sense from the Desire HD builds. Now I use Sense build with Launcher Pro and it's just about perfect.
Sense I'd say, although the main aim is to eliminate windows altogether, I rather likes the HTC sense GUI, and the sense build does bring it back to life in a way and right now I'm using a beautiful Android build, which i have to say, been using it for a while now and hassle free, no freezes, no lag, runs better then most android phones which is quite remarkable considering its running of the SD card.
Stock for me.....and yes my hd2 Android runs better and faster than any other phone I've come across all far.....
I really do not think you can beat an hd2 android...

just as a sidewinder... Sense, Stock, Ubuntu, MeeGo, or WP7? lol I personally havent played around with MeeGo or WP7 because they havent came out yet although they do look nice. I also think that WP7 will be an epic fail unless they can update their marketplace, that seems to be the attention grabber APPS!! ha
at any rate Linux is a definite winner in my book whether android ubuntu fedora or what ever. I just don't like MS poking its finger into everything
But i digress
I was always a fan of Stock, but since I've put on Hyperdroid Sense, I haven't looked back since. It's just so smooth, battery life is great and everything just works,... you can't argue with that.

Vanilla Is where its at...I personally don't like sense at all...I've used evo and desire hd builds but I always go back to stock froyo...currently my brother Is using my HD2, I have Nexus 2.2.1 running on it and feel like it can't get any better..

I like sense. It's just a matter of personaly perference. I like the HTC eye candy and stock Android is a little boring for my taste.
But if you ask me to choose between stock android vs. motoblur/whatever the samsung overlay is called/whatever the Sony-Ericsson overlay is called/whatever the Dell overlay is called - I'd choose the stock android every time.

There are a couple of things I like (and now miss) about the Sense UI...
I do like the dialer...
I do like the pinch/zoom features and the Sense browser better than on my Froyo mod.
What I never liked was the obvious and painful effect it produced on the phone's responsiveness and, therefore, its usability.
I love my phone now: CM6, overclocked to 710Mhertz.
Personally, when I see a fast, zippy, responsive Hero with the Sense UI, then I'll believe it!
The thing you have to remember (and I mean no offense by this), some people like fat girls, some people like skinny girls, some people like blondes, and some like redheads. Same with your phone, some people like Sense, and some people do not. I personally don't enjoy having to flash a sense based rom to update my PRL and such, just to flash back to an AOSP rom when done. As far as I'm concerned, I could care less if my phone had sense, but I haven't found a good way to update my PRL and profile under AOSP without it at least being on a sense rom. For me, I will probably always use a sense based rom just for that reason, but I am in no way using stock roms.
It takes 10 minutes tops to flash back and fourth for radio and prl updates.

Just wondering why nobody else is cooking on NAND Ginger apart from MDJ, we need more ginger loveliness
I would do murders.. for a clean, stripped down Ginger ROM with everything working
maybe because there are several bugs on gingerbread till now which you have to fix afterwards:
- bluetooth wasn't working right stock
- location is not displayed except on google apps
- camcorder is still very laggy
and some other small things... i will revert back to a sense build or cm6 until the bugs are fixed
Seriously gingerbread is the need pf the hour....

Obviously. Specifically, what makes it better?
I'm looking for examples along the lines of "dialer pad is better, smoother animations, quicker in general etc,"
not "its the latest model"

I have used it on my Vibrant and tried to battle the issues on my HD2 (nand)...Its still the same ol' Android.
...by upgraded UI...do you mean a new vertical battery, and green tinted icons?...whoa...look out for all these changes Google is doing.
Honestly...Froyo is much more stable at this point, and almost everything that can be ripped from Gingerbread has already been broken down and distributed as individual apk files (new market, live wallpapers...yes, even the icons)
The next version of JDMS should be a Gingerbread build according to the JDMS thread... But I don't think Gingerbread is up to par yet, like others have mentionned. GPS is currently "fixed" but not fully functional. Still having issues with USB Disk...
I just want that oldschool CRT shutdown! haha
Just wanna experience the new garbage collector system. With new set of memory management system, I'm curious as to how it saves your battery and overall responsiveness of the OS. Although there are already NAND Gingerbread ROMs around, I rather wait for a complete ROM rather than having it tweaked here and there for it to work normally. Secondly, the SDK for Gingerbread is already out. So be expected to have a new generation of apps for it. But I hope for pure vanilla Gingerbread NAND ROM. Just like NexusHD2 rom, it gives so much space and leaving the customization to the user. Well, just my opinion though.
Hey all!
So I've been with my NAM(Bell) Desire-Z for a few months now.
I've a fresh new 1800mAH battery and I wanna get the most out of it.
From what I've noticed, I don't really need any of the HTC widgets. I'm bound to find better replacements even if I do.
(Widgetsoid is an amazing widget alternative)
So I ask... do you think SuperVillainZ or maybe Virtuous might be better for me to try out if:
- I want better battery life
- I want a more responsive UI
- I want to stick with SenseUI without the bog-down effect
- I want to keep the SenseUI camera
- I like the SenseUI mail app.
??
Here's what I am hoping to get at as well....
-replace the HTC People app with the stock Google Contacts app
(HTC People + sync is driving me insane)
-replace the HTC dialer with "Dialer One" (an amazing Dialer replacement)
-retain 7 homescreens
-get wifi calling
-No huge need for overclocking, but definitely underclocking to save battery
-openVPN <-- i need this
I don't mind using a different UI/Launcher and I'm not pushing for 2.3,but it would be nice of course.
I'm using a bell desire z on rogers myself, I would suggest cm 6.1.1 for battery life as I ran it for a week and got rediculously good battery life on stock battery. I'm currently running cm7 nightly and have no complaints, battery isn't as good as 6 was but its still better than stock. as for all your extras your looking for I can't comment too much on as I'm still new to the desire z as well as cm. my main reason for suggesting cm is not only the customizability of it but I got sick of sense. yes it looks nice and its semi cool, but I find cm to be cleaner and less "busy". and adw ex let's me setup my homescreens just right.
sorry I can't help on the sense referral your looking for...just my .02 though and welcome to the desire z/g2 family

Same here i got a Bell Desire Z and the Battery life was Horrible ~ 12 hours max Sense.com, facebook were killing me.
Try MIUI its really smooth like a iphones but you might not like it as its like an new OS almost.
CM 7 RC would be best choice on cm7 nightly builds i got 24 hours with 2-3 hours use which is a lot coming from sense.
I would say Cyan Rc1 its really nice and stable
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
id recommend cm7 rc1 with flippys 1.8Ghz kernel.
I am running it at 1.4 and getting a really good battery life.(better than stock cm7)
but if you must have htc stuff id recommend virtouos rom.
Hmm... the only thing I really need from Sense is the camera/camcorder. Is it included in Virtuous? SuperVillainZ? other?
I too was thinking of going to CM7 RC1 because i think sense is one of the big reasons my battery is so poor because of all the things in the background, i was wondering though if i would be able to take the HTC touch input and camera from virtuous say and install them on CM7? And how good is the copy paste in gingerbread?
I just like the few little UI things in sense, only reason ive stayed with it
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I would try CM 6.1.1. I've been using it for about a month now and it's great. I've tried Virtuous 0.9.5 and come to the conclusion that Sense is just not for me. Way too busy, and the launcher/home just isn't customizable enough.
I tried CM 7.0 RC1 for a couple days, but was getting choppy performance switching between screens on LauncherPro. It was worse with ADW. Must be some performance tweaking that needs to take place on that ROM.
Unfortunatly htc apps will not work on any other rom unless the rom is based on htc sense . The only htc app that will work is flashlight . I am running cm7 just now but virtouos rom is very awesome. And it has a very good battery life .

So far I have tried CM7 and Nils Business Sense and I'm conflicted.
I really like the new Sense 2 UI that comes with Nils Business Sense, but I also like the speed from Android 2.3 from CM7.
Hard to decide which to stay with.
I've only used one ROM, and that's CM7. While I like Sense, I really like CM7's lack of it.

I'm between CM7 stable and Skyraider 3.5
Once Skyraider 4 drops I'll make a decision on which to stick with. I just flashed CM7 again earlier today, but I'll probably flash back tomorrow.
I'm a big CM7 fan. I view Android 2.3.3 more important than sense.
Warm z twopointtwo all the way. The appearance of 2.3 with sense 2.0 and a very well done UI. Give the newest nightly a shot....it may not be your cup if tea but I bet if you tried it you'd love it

Its a tough call. I happen to like the sense interface and widgets but there are parts of gingerbread and cm7 settings that are really awesome as well. Rocking cm right now but I too will likely flash skyraider 4.0 and I am quite a fan of warm z as well.

CM7 fan here...
I used to be a huge fan of skyraider. Was my goto ROM for several months. I then tried MIUI (great ROM... just not a fan of the UI), and a few others. I settled with warm 2.2. I used that ROM for quite some time and really liked it as well.
I eventually made my way to CM7 and have been using it for roughly two months now. Very stable and getting great battery life (you can see my config below). I've learned to significantly customize the UI and notification bar and have been very happy thus far.
I may try SR 4.0 or Myn's Z ROM... we'll see. The only thing constant with my phone is change
Happy Flashing
+1 for warm z 2point2. I had used skyraider 3.5 for a long time and am loving 2point2. I tried cm7 and it just wasn't for me...havent tried nils yet.
Nils new update is working fantastic for me!

It depends what you value most. For me, battery life was a very major part in my decision- probably the most important.
CM7 with chad's kernel and a bit of underclock has some crazy good battery life, you probably already know that though.
To be honest I don't know why this is a post because it just comes down to preference
Nils is a great developer and very active on fixing any bugs or problems with his ROM's. If you shout him a change or something you'd like to see there's a real possibility you may see it in the next release.
I started out with Virtuous, switched onto Skyraider Athena, and now CM7.
I really enjoyed the sense aspect of everything, specifically the dialer and fb connectivity... other than that I didn't care much.
Then I switched to Athena, it was the best of both worlds, dash of sense, pinch of vanilla. basically was vanilla with the exception of dialer and the aforementioned.
Now on CM7 I decided to jump ship and go full vanilla, and it's awesome. The sheer amount of customization within the ROM (including all the themes) is just awesome, and I don't think I'd switch to anything else.
I had CM7 on mine for like 2 days and it ran great and then started to get really slow and stupid on me so I flashed back to Incredibly Re-Engineered 2.4. Over the past month I've grown to love sense (had an og droid for a year), but absolutely hate the dock thing for it. I wish I could have all the sense features but use a dock like ADW's.
My biggest gripe with the aosp roms was having to use a different lockscreen. I got so used to not even looking at my phone to unlock it, but cm7 has me covered there as you can choose from several lockscreens in the settings. The only other thing I really missed was the messaging widget but I was able to add a shortcut to the messaging app to my lockscreen slider so it's even easier to check my texts. I was only ever truly happy with Lou's redemptive revolution before cm7 came around.

MIUI ... for the Speed, Functionality, & Eye pleasing themes (not animated like sense tho)
MIUI FTW . This ROM is stupid fast. Is the best battery saver that I jar ever tried. It looks good, like how everything goes by folders, there are many setups you change, hard to have a force close, etc. I was thinking on switching my phone to another after 8 months of use, but after this ROM, I can tell I have phone for at least 1 more year, til my contract expires.

Couldn't agree more.
CM7 is stupid fast. And people say MIUI is fast. It's CM based. Why use a knock off when you can can use the original? #justsaying.
second in line is VU, is quick and the OS just feel native to the phone.
i've always had a soft spot for cm7, so smooth, amazing battery life
although the custom sense roms here are snappy as well and smooth, switched to VU and later on trying out TDJ's runny remix for a while and those are amazing. However, when i switched back to CM7 i realized how much i missed it lol.
Virtuous Unity because it is BEAST on the MT4G!!
All the roms available are equally good, really depends on what you're looking for.
MIUI - fast processing, great battery life, eye candy; only con is graphics rendering on screen transitions are not as smooth as others
CM7 - very fast, great battery life, instant transitions; only con is that its very bland in terms of looks
VU - same as MIUI, but with sense interface; beats by Dr. Dre is also available as a mod

Ok not to be off topic as this may help future users in ROM picking.
I downloaded the newest MIUI 1.10.14 ... some slight hiccups. i had to reflash it a few times ... not a great user experience ... cant go into detail since i gotta pass out soon.
Might roll back to previous version of MIUI.
I like several ROMs. I enjoy CyanogenMod because it's lightning fast. Nightlies have hiccups from time to time, but for the most part, they work. There's always the stable version too if you wanna play it safer or need a working, dependable phone.
Sometimes I use RoyalGinger because I love the awesomely fast launcher that comes with it. I prefer a fast opening app drawer rather than one that loads over about half a second. Just feels faster even if the other launchers [before tweaking] don't have lag, but zooms into the app drawer just a little slower.
I'll run MIUI occasionally for the amazing battery life it offers even though I hate the way menus are set up and personally find the default launcher totally repulsive (No offense to the developers. Everyone has their own taste, right?). After throwing on Launcher Pro, I'm able to deal with it though.
My all time favorite is without a doubt Virtuous Unity. It's lag free for the most part, generally issue free, and truly high quality ROM. I love the fact that it makes my phone perform and feel like a Sensation without having to go out and buy a new phone. Sense is a beautiful interface which I thoroughly enjoy and find my self drawn back to whenever I'm gone for long. Throw on the HoneyHD theme and it's among the sexiest ROMs I've ever run. It has decent battery life for my usage and keeps getting better with every release. Oh, and I love the Beats by Dre equalizer add-on.
CyanogenMod 7 is the ROM I'm currently using and probably the ROM I will continue to use in the future. I've tried lots of ROMs on this device as well as others and I always seem to go back to Cyanogen.
