how's games performance on hd2 android as compared to desire? is it the same or more lag? just saw a vid of rafdroid hd 3 on hd2 and seems to have some lag while playing asphalt 5 hd
watched more vids here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68BYOr6dSAs
yup seems it's lagging... is it normal?? or it depends on the android rom u r using.. are there lags on sd android roms?
yeah there is more lag if ur running a sd android rom compared to a nand android rom

I would say performance is the same with recent SD builds as with NAND builds. I've used both NAND and SD builds extensively... it depends a lot on the build. I guess it may depend on what SD card you're using too, but actually most high quality SD cards have faster read and write speeds than the NAND that the HD2 has... random access speed on good SD cards are as good as the HD2's NAND.
Desire HD builds may run a little better on NAND, but not by much if at all. AOSP and CM builds definitely run the same on both, though.
To the OP.... game performance will depend on what build you're using, but from my experience it seems to run games almost as good as a Desire. Desire may run a little better... depends on if it's running stock or if it's tweaked for performance. My friend has a desire that's tweaked and runs much better than any HD2 I've ever seen. But the HD2 can usually match a stock desire in performance.

thx for the replies. Are there overclocked roms on hd2 to boost performance?
There are overclocked roms that boost your cpu speed up to 1.5ghz. No need tho. I have mine running at 900mhz and save a little battery. All my games run smooth. I got a stock desire hd rom on nand. My co-worker has the normal desire and his phone lags and hangs constantly. His is 100% stock from o2 germany.

Oh and if you want an easy way to keep an eye on your specs and how your phone is running, there's a free app called Elixir. It's simple monitoring software, but it shows you EVERYTHING.

thx for ur replies.. lol it's becoming harder to decide between desire and hd2 lol
If you want to run android then skip the desire and get a desire hd. If you want to dual boot android and windows then go with the hd2. If you just want android without dual boot then it's better to buy a native android system.

Not sure if this helps but I have just bought one of these microsd cards
http://www.allmemorycards.co.uk/acatalog/SDSDQY-8192-E11M.html
And I can confirm that both Windows Phone 7 and my SD Android ROM run flawlessly, before I was using a class 6 Samsung which I thought would be perfect for the job, but I was getting slow down and restarts in WP7 and the odd game skip in Android.
Now I Don't get a single skip whilst playing GT racing HD or PES2011 on Android and WP7 runs so smooth and fast, In my opinion there is no other choice on the market to be able to run Android and WP7 so well if at all...HD2 what else is there

I have an HD2 with SPL 2.08 and radio 2.15 , WinMo rom - Dexter .sencity 21.11 .
I have tried with other combinations too. My SD card is the original class 2 2gb micro SD. When I install Desire rom it works fast and everything is fine. When I put a Desire HD rom however it is slow - i takes 1-2 secs for it to open keyboard or the menus and so on. I dont know what the problem is or how can I see exactly how slow it is. Any help would be much appreciated! It is odd that people report that the Desire HD roms are really fast when they are slow on my HD2. Probably I messed up something but I dont know what so please HELP! I have tried different roms from m-deejay and Sergio76 and so on. The Froyo stock roms also work fast and flawless. I know there is another thread but it is in another section and there are no responses because this sections has 100x more activity. THank you!
Man honestly to rule out any possibilities of the ROM being the factor you have to use a class 6 or above sd card, otherwise you have no way of really troubleshooting what your problem is. Also, Devs mention in the releases all the time the Radio and WinMo ROM they use so to insure the same performance they can only give you what they are running as well.

The class of the SD card has nothing to do with it. The majority or people that have tried a class 4 and above say it is a lot worse than the stock SD card. I have tried and it was a lot worse for me also.
The Windows ROM and radio can have a LOT to do with it though.

By the way, how long exactly did you give it? These HD Roms can literally take hours to settle in and they won't be real speedy until they are completely done syncing everything. I have noticed that sometimes you won't see the sync icon but things will still be syncing in the background, inlcuding the Android market because these new Roms backup all your apps and data with the market and HTC sense. I am using Sergio76's and it is flying so I would try again but give it a lot of time to settle. Hope it works out for you, good luck!
As Motoman said, it will take time for everything to sync, but many reboots is very important. I have been using Mdeejay's Desire HD 4.1 for three days now, and don't have any problems. I must have rebooted 8-10 times the original day and that helped extremely well with speed.

At worst a class 6 card (for example) might not provide much in the way of an improvement over a stock class 2 but there is no way it would be 'a lot worse'.
Personally, I noticed a speed increase on identical builds when I swapped from my class 2 to a class 6 but nothing too drastic.

I agree with motoman that sdcards have nothing to do with the speed they might make a very little difference which can be negligible, I am suffering from a lot of lag in desire HD builds............
@motoman234, so can you tell us how exactly we should install these desire hd roms ?,
i was having the same issue with the hd roms. i thought they were terrible. i now have MDJ FroYo HD v.4.3=-[kernel:MDJ S7.5HD] running very well. i had to change my rom to achieve this. the wmrom is useless IMO but it lets me run android hd now. i am using this rom
ChuckyDroidROM-HTCFrameworkEdition.Nov.05.7z
and this radio
Radio_Leo_2.15.50.14
i also install bsb tweaks in winmo and set to power save mode. turn off everything in winmo and auto boot to android with hard keys lit up.
it works for me
Same issue as OP here. All non-HD ROMs run really fast. But other Desire HD ROMs are plain terrible speed-wise. I have a good Class 6 card.
It's a kernel issue. There is nothing you can do.

To each is own I suppose. I can only speak for myself when I say that a class 6 card made me have SOD every time when waking the phone from sleep, not to mention overall less performance. Not sure what it is about them but it was bad in my case but I doubt every single person will experience this.

It is a bit time consuming to get them rolling smooth for the first time but these are the steps I usually use when installing them for those of you that can not get them running like they should.
1) Boot up the build (fresh start)
2) Wait a couple minutes before unlocking the screen for the first time.
3) Setup everything in the SetupWizard.
4) From the moment you hit the "Finish" button on the SetupWizard, set your phone down for about 30-45 minutes before touching anything (OFF the charger if possible since it can get really hot when it is syncing everything for the first time. Charging can just add to that heat)
5) After you notice things to get a little faster, reboot the phone and then boot back into Android.
6) Wait another 5 minutes before unlocking the phone.
7) You should be good to go, if things still seem a little laggy try to reboot one more time.
I know this seems overboard but these HD builds have a lot to them. After you get the process over with you should be happy you did it. Once again **This is just what works for me** I am using Core Droid V0.2 by the way.
@Motoman234,
Not overboard...it's good advice. Thank you for the steps! P.S. Good to see a chef from my neck of the woods! Thank you sir!!

The Speed of the SD card has nothing to do with the roms performance.
The only difference that we will feel between a 'Class 2' and a 'Class 6' is when copying files to or from the SD card.
I noticed that on my 16GB Class 2, I have a transfer rate up to 4 MB/s when copying the Android folder and this card is supposed to have a maximum of 2mb writing while on my 8GB Class 6 I can copy up to 10 Mb/s the same Android folder (twice as fast).
But when Android runs I don't feel any difference at all.
The reason why the Desire HD roms are slow on the HD2 is because these roms were optimized to work under 768 MB RAM while our HD2 has only 576 MB RAM.
We barely have 100MB of free RAM with a Desire HD rom but with a stock rom we can have 300MB and more free.

I think what makes it worse is that we dont get 576mb ram in android, as this has not been built into kernels, we are only getting about 350mb of ram. If I check my available ram it is around the 300mb mark and has never been above 350mb.
u must just reboot you device after 1-st boot

Yes,the secret of having a good performance on any device is to have 1/3 of the amount of RAM always free.
For ex if you have 3GB of ram,you can use till 2GB and you will be very good.
But if you use 2.1 GB of the 3GB then don't think twice and upgrade immediately.
We are using this equation on our servers and t works pretty well,at least for our company.
I've only tested desire_hd beta and Core Droid HD v0.2 so far. Nonetheless, both have been quick and solid here. Like mentioned by motoman234, give these builds time to sync your market apps and settle down, then reboot a couple times, and you should be good to go. If the build has heavy lag, it's most likely still trying to download your market apps and install them as well as sync your personal data. Patience is key here.
Also, this goes for every build, but make sure that your keypad lights are on when booting into android. Doing this has normally solved any high standby battery drain that I've run into to date.
As far as MircoSDHC cards go, I have tested a handful of different class and size cards with the HD2, and found that once the system is booted up, there's no difference, or the higher class cards have more SOD or freeze issues for some reason. The HD2 can only handle so much, and random read speed appears to be the most important factor. In turn, a good quality class 2 card should be all you need. That said, I've been running a Sandisk 32GB class 2 card for months now, without a single problem to date. Regardless of what card you use, I highly recommend using SD Formatter in quick format mode.
Another thought... it may help a little to use a standard wallpaper at first, instead of the live wallpaper, just until the system has settled down.
All that said, I'm a huge fan of Core Droid HD, due to the animations and polished theme work done by Sergio76. It's an excellent build, and you can easily get the camcorder working with the system files fix included in the thread.
On a kind of related note, motoman234 has an excellent EVO Sense Black & Blue Remix build available, if the Desire HD Sense builds are too heavy for your needs.
Best to all,

As you guys all know Darkstone made a build that runs off the phones ram which i find is a fast build but Cotulla has released his nand desire build. So..which one is faster? any advantages/disadvantages between the two?
For me (when i do not look at quadrant score) the NAND is much smoother.
Ok the quadrant score is lower, but that is because of i/o writes.
But graphical is is faster,i love it
Try it yourself first?? So you have your own feedback ready to share..
By the way I'm gonna try now both of them for few days each.. let you know then.
Happy new year dude

I actually already tried them both. Nand needs a little more playing around with but it seems smoother. Or maybe its all in our head that nand is smoother since we have been waiting for it so long
I have the ram version its very fast it satisfies me but I wanna know about the ROM release, please share ur Xperience
Both Dark Stone and Cotulla and his team deserve to be commended for their efforts, nice one folks
I have yet to try the NAND ROM but i have Dark Stones Froyo SUPERAM Build on my phone and have had little or no trouble at all and the most important thing is - it is blazing fast, much much faster than any other build ive tried so i would be inclined to stick with the build that is faster, ill keep an eye on Cotullas thread and may try it but for me the speedness of SUPERAM is the winner but everyones different.
I thought most of the task killer are trying to release RAM . and says it saves battery also. now you are going load your going to the RAM. any expert can explain this ?

try it, you wont lose anything. I still prefer mdj's gingerbread ram build but not because its faster but because of the builds gui and mods he has done to the build but if he were to transfer that into a nand build i would be in there

Well, from what I've seen so far smoothness-wise NAND Desire stock is good.
However, market downloading speed for me with Darkstone's build is over 1mb/sec, with Cotulla's build it's more like 250kb/sec. That's still reasonable but not amazing.
Additionally, whilst reinstalling my programs which I've backed up with ASTRO, it's quite clear to me that darkstone's RAM build was faster in installing applications.
ON THE OTHER HAND,
the NAND build wakes up instantly, as in INSTANTLY, when you press a button, even when it's sluggish due to being in the middle of loads of work.
So far, this is all I've noticed though I'm sure I will notice more as time goes on.
Does NAND flash do anything for battery life?
Sent from my GTablet-TnT-Lite using Tapatalk
My main focus is power consumption, my HD2 can't handle more than 6 hours of heavy use. I receive/make calls a lot, and I constantly use the messaging system... I have to be plugged in all the time, that sucks. Is NAND better battery wise?
[]'s
U can't modify ram builds extensively cause they are read only. U can mod NAND. In performance its seems to be on different. Except slower booting
Don't think we will know about battery for a week. We will see
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
as stated, only really thing i liked about ram was the quick boot but being the hardcore user i am i was constantly getting the device full error and needing to reboot due to max ram usage. Nand all the way
I really love the NAND and the Ram versions (thanks devs)
They are both smooth and working fast, but the problem I have is the amount of space for the apps.
The RAM version would let me install all my apps into the SD card as the DATA file is found in the SD card. Yet with NAND I can only install a handful of apps which in my opinion is the biggest disadvantage other than that I’m happy with the NAND version and still testing
to these who are running nand or ram builds
The main Question is the batterylife. Can anyone say somethig about this? How is it on RAM and how on NAND builds? That is the 1st fakt i want to look at.
And how about the Market download speed? On SD builds it's very slow, any changes?
At RAM builds there are still things like GPS not working, so they are nothing for me, at NAND builds i don't read anything that doesn't work.
I have two HD2's
First HD2, DarkStone SuperRAM 1.5 with patches from that thread, 5mA with correct configuration. Lot's of free RAM. After 10 hours usage with auto sync on, mobile data off lost about 10% of battery.
Second HD2, LEO "Stock" NAND Android, bunch of HTC apps/services running in the background, started with 3 to 5mA in standby right now. It fluctuated to 60mA, but came back to 4mA now, will have to check how it does over normal usage for couple of days.
NAND UI is faster than RAM.
Bottom line, based on your configuration mA in standby will vary, I feel HTC is too much of bloatware and designed for non-geek demographic.
Update: Unless you really love all HTC Sense, HTC background apps, widgets and services, I would suggest not to install stock NAND ROM.
i tried already 2 nand roms...all i can say that nand rom is fast indeed..!tried stock desire and desire HD nands rom for hd2..
So...nand is very stable and responsive..no lags at all!all works great..!the only bad thing is that your phone memory is low!!with desire stock phone memory is 80mb and desire hd nand is 156 mb..!compared to ram version u can extend your data.img so u can have more phone memory, ram is much faster than nand i think..hastarin and even darkstone stated it..!i think cotulla also i agreed..!i made benchmark scores with nand and was 1400 on dhd and 1200 on stock desire while ram desire stock gave 1700+..neocore on nand is 30.7 fps while on ram is 31.6fps !i tried games on nand such as asphalt avatar nova and lags while on ram dont!overall nand is great for those who want to get rid of winmo!battery is a bit much better on nand
thats all from..i suggest people try nand..its great!it is very easy to install and if you are not like it...it is very easy also to boot back to stock or custom winmo roms!
thanks cottula for all this and the devs for making all this possible ..have a happy new year

Hi guys,
While I am respecting and thanking all devs for their hard work and time , i would like to share this thread with the guys who are not happy with nand and went back to window rom with sd card based android built. and the reasons for that
I used NANDroid for the last couple of days and felt missing something. From NAND i did not get big advantages as expected.
reasons are (please do not get offended this is my personal experiance)
1.nandroid internal memory is not enough to save lot of applications
2.Even after Data.img is created in some builts using app2sd it is too laggy, i feel the lag in SD built is better than NANDroid
3.what is the point of using android alone as i could buy a cheap wildfire for £100 brand new handset.
4.some applications can not be ussed in ANDROID like tom tom and Garmin( i dearly miss TOMTOM as you all know NO.1 SATNAV in Europe
5.whatever we do the HD2 hardware is not fully support to NANDROID like native android as this phone is designed for windows
6.some SD builts like mdeejays desire HD 4.6 and cedesmiths desire HD and darkstones superRAM are better equiped than NANDROID.
7.if I use SD build android it will be 2 in 1 and i can get both experiances.
those are the reasons i went back to SD card based built which is Mdeejay desire HD 4.6.(cheers mdeejay)

hi friend
I was using that before but when you install more than 10 apps from market or back up you data you will get warning 'low memory'.
Got to disagree with you OP. I think NAND is the best thing to happen to the HD2 since android was first ported. Im using HD2one build and it freakin awesome. The battery life is also spectacular, especially in standby. Can now run a full working day (9 hrs) and still come home with 60%+ battery life, with SD i was lucky to come home with 30%. Just my 2 pennies .
Ricey
I don't have the ability to try out the NAND ROMs (broken microUSB), but I am still thrilled that it can be done by others, if only for the renewed dev interest in the HD2, and more options for people is always better. But even if I could flash an Android ROM, I think at least for now I'd stick with WinMo and SD builds (more options is better). But surely with a little time, the NAND ROMs will surpass the SD builds in terms of stability, usability, and performance overall. Once we can flash Clockwork Recovery, and use ext2 a2sd, NAND will beat SD hands down. But even with that, having WM plus several Android builds and Ubuntu on the SD is a very attractive option. For me, multi-functionality will be preferred to stability and battery life. But to each his own, more options is better. I just hope the SD builds don't fall by the wayside, they still have alot of use left in them, and for those like me, theyre the only option.
~HD2 Android~
I will most likely go back to my tried & true SD builds because you can't update these ROMs with new kernels or framework of desired launchers. And regardless of what anyone says about changing kernels, I can't do it because I have no clue what ADB is and nobody explains it.
My SD versions work just as good as these ROMs and boot up in 1/3rd the time. I kid you not, it takes on average about 4 to 5 minutes to boot the Gauner or cmylxgo ROMs. And there is no stock m-deejay DesireHD ROM.
I can see the problems of the original poster as I'm in the same situation. The gauner build is nice and all, uses little battery and is snappy enough, it is lacking some important features (like led notifications). The speed difference is not as massive between nand and a fast sd build. Gauners build is just a bit snappier than mdjs Froyo HD 4.6, but the difference is hardly worth getting rid of the advantages of an sd build in conjunction w/ Winmo.
If m-deejay did a nice NAND build of his 4.6 I'd flash it right away, but it's nowhere in sight. First reason would be a fast and snappy, stable ROM.
Soon I'll go to a roaming country that I've got Tom Tom maps for, and I don't have igo. So I'll likely flash Winmo back and get back to MDJs HD 4.6 sd build.

Try the nand+SD raffdroid.
Lol. Pure troll-fodder!

A week ago I thought the same, using an EU HD2, you get half the internal memory of the US phones, tried a couple of recovery roms now using Jaws MUIU recovery and all I can say is WOW...a little confusing at first setting up your sd card partitioning and the setting up the recovery bit, but once done everything runs fast, slick and reliably.
I really did want to stay with windows mobile as I thought I didn't need android, but now I have android running so well I don't miss windows anymore, best of luck with your hd2 the best device

I'm back to SD purely because of the dual operating system, I find that making a call in poor signal areas wm is much better prob because it was designed for the phone.

Gotta second this!
This NandRom absolutely ROCKS!!!! Do yourself a favour and try it!!
Concerning TomTom: I do agree.. TomTom is by far the coolest Navprogramme, but Navigon for Android is actually quite good too..
Wtf lol....
NAND with data.img is much faster as a sd build, logical also:
You can see it as a pc with 2 harddrives in it,1 for the os,1 for writing data on it,so disc 1 keeps his speed (nand is this case)
I have zero lag using this method with the nand build that i use,and i am getting easy 2100 quadrant score on 998mhz ghehe.
No way that sd android is faster
hi guys, i was just curious how fast the hd2 is compared to the likes of nexus s sgs and desire hd on cm7 and miui. any input would be greatly appreciated. thnx!

wow, didnt expect HD to be faster than DHD! thanks for the input! btw, just out of interest, how do the screens compare between those three devices? im guessing SGS2 would have far better screen
Galaxy S2 is faster, but some programs may start faster on the HD2, and I know that's strange! and it happens randomly. probably related to background processes or something.
HD2 is also not always faster than DHD, it's just the huge amount of tweaking the HD2 ROMs get that they feel faster, but that performance is ROM-dependent.
If you get two tweaked ROMs, one on the HD2 and the other on DHD, and both from the same developer (Core team makes ROMs for both as far as I can remember), I bet the DHD will be faster.
Samsung screens IMHO are the best on the market, but having to deal with a none-sense droid phone with not much of custom ROMs is a pain.

thnx for the input just outta interest, how do the battery life compare? quite interested in WP7 battery span as well as MIUI on HD2. btw does the hd2 happen to have any graphical problems on MIUI or WP7?

I run NAND Android on my HD2 and have been running Android on mine for close to 9 months. Granted I run a non-sense ROM (Hyperdroid-CM7) as my daily driver. But I tested dozens of NAND Android ROMs for the HD2 and it run pretty much all ROMs very smoothly with the exception of the Sense 3.0 ROMs, It was laggy with those ROMs. The MIUI ROMs run pretty smooth on the HD2 but you do have an occasional lag here and there, but I stress the word occasional.
As for your original question the HD2 can hang with just about any native Android device on the market with the same or close to the same specs. Now keep in mind I am not talking about any of new devices sporting dual core processors with bigger RAM and mor memory.

The only real lag was when you would first open a app sometimes it would take somtimes the a second or two to open. It would also happen when you would be transitioning from one function to another, you know like when you opened the phone or camera. But it was always just a second or two delay/lag nothing that is intolerable. Or nothing most other native Android devices do from time to time. But the Sense 3.0 ROMs were borderline intolerable, at least for me.
are Nand roms as smooth as real Android phone's or are they just like SD card roms ?

You can't really decide whether or not they are as smooth as native Android phones. It depends on your definition of smooth and also on the Android phone you're using as a benchmark. On Froyo Sense/CM7/MIUI/CM9/AOKP/Paranoidandroid things are very smooth (although for the ICS builds a 3rd party non-ICS based launcher is required)
compaird to a desire hd
i was thinking of instaling a Sence Rom ( desire hd based) or CM9 eg: nexushd ,
i run adndroid on my SD card from time to time but it doesn't seem to feel smooth
my HD2 is a european version they have less ram

They don't have less RAM, it's just that on the stock ROM the extra RAM was locked by the radio... or something like that (someone is bound to correct me anyway). I'm currently on NexusHD2 and it's great. I used a couple of Froyo Sense ROMs and they were good too but when I tried Sense 3.0/3.5 they weren't smooth (but this is only in my opinion). However, as far as I could see the performance on these ROMs was essentially the same as the DesHD, it's just that Sense is slow (not the phone itself)

Does this mean that my HD2 will have full ram when i flash a nand rom?

It will have 403 or 411 Mb RAM. I know that 128Mb is dedicated to the GPU or something, but I don't know where the rest goes. There are threads about it, so have a look in those and you'll probably find the answer.
Nand roms are smoother than sd roms.Compared to real android phones it depends on what you compare. For example a zte blade or galaxy ace are "real android phones" but they`re not faster and smoother from hd2 with nand android rom.
