Just wanted to say hi n how happy I am back to having an LG device in my hand. I went from the lgog to the HTC m7 and then the m8 and now the g3.
Welcome aboard
The G3 is my third LG device in a row and man they have come a long way. Actually I did for a 2 month period have an S4 and hated it so much, so as soon as the G2 came out I got it. I like what LG is doing and until someone makes a sexier phone I'm sticking with LG. I think LG phones are by far the best looking phones now with the super thin bezels, and the feel of the g2 and g3 in the hand is awesome. I don't even use cases because it ruins the experience for me. My friend just recently got an S5 and I was showing him how the G3 is about the same size yet much more screen to use especially for me because I disable the onscreen buttons and use LMT so I get to use my full screen all the time.
When I went to get my G3 I kept my mind open and considered all the other high end devices like the S5, M8, etc but to me they were ugly and the ones with equal screen size were much larger and the ones that were the same size or not much smaller had much smaller screens. I need my small bezels after using a G2.
The only thing that has disappointed me with the G3 so far is the locked bootloader and lack of development due to that. I'm a huge ASOP fan and never look back at stock once I can get a good AOSP based rom like carbon, slim, OSE, AICP and others, because I never use the gimmicks or apps of the stock roms and IMO a rom like OSE or carbon have many many more useful features. But honestly with root and G3 tweaks paid version this phone is great and I can deal with not having AOSP based roms yet. Hopefully one day we will.

I loved my lgog it was one of my favorite devices. The only reason I got the m7 was cause I broke the screen on my lgog. The hole time I had my m7 I wished for my lgog back. When it was time to upgrade cause I had the m7 the m8 was looking good so I upgraded to the m8. The g2 wouldn't have been an upgrade for me lol.
I have a couple of friends with the g3 and they kept talking about it. One of them being @dreamsforgotten lol. So sure I pulled the trigger and came back lol.
The only question now is to I dust off my Dev box and get back into deving or not.

Glad to have you back MysteryEmotionz! I am not familiar with your work, it appears I was always on a different device.
Looking through your past development contributions is very impressive and makes me glad to see you on a G3!
It's very good to see dreamsforgotten in the house as well!
Loved his ROMs on the G-Nexus...

There's devices that XDA doesn't recognize that I have worked on also, and unfortunately I had to post on a different site..... Me and dreams go back a couple years now. We have worked together and although we went separate ways with phones we stayed in touch. I still haven't dusted off my Dev box tho lol

Do mine eyes deceive me? The great @MysteryEmotionz! All of your work on the OG Epic was legendary. I was going to wait it out for the Nexus 6, but if you are back on the LGG3 then I may need to rethink my upgrade choice!
Hope life is treating you well, old friend. Your work was the only one of its kind.

Ok I am going to ask this question once, state all your opinions don't hold back and people please do not start a flame war. Be civilized and to each their own opinion, we are technically the same android family and also both use T-Mobile.
myTouch 4G or G2?
Pros and Cons
Asking this in both forum sections... wish we could have the same thread in both sections.
{Edit- link to myTouch 4G forums thread same topic | http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831502}
Dude this topic has been discussed to the...I will suggest go with what your heart says, they are both good phones so what ever makes you feel excited, no phone is perfect and will have u desire more and that's exactly the point when they design these phones. For me G2 being stock is reason enough every else is welcome bonus.

G2 because it doesn't look like ass. That Genius button would annoy the hell out of me too. Looks so stupid and useless.
Engadget did a great review on both the G2 and the myTouch 4G.
After reading them both, I am glad I went with the G2 instead of the 4G.
Read it for yourself and maybe it'll help you in your decision.
There has already been a thread on this specific topic.

Depends on you really. Your needs and style is what should influence you the most. For me, I got the g2 it does everything I need, and I know that the extra features will be unnoticeable or unused for the mt4g.
I have both in front of me - and I'm 100% in the "G2" team. The MT4G looks slick, but they have tweaked and modded Android to the point where it just pisses me off.
Every single app has something stock android doesn't do. After coming from the N1, the G2 feels the most like it, but the MT4G is in a league of its own. I'm sure it has a following, but it sure as hell isn't designed for people who like to tinker with their devices.

I have both phones in front of me, and I've been playing with them for a few days. I came from a G1 and I thought that G2 would be the one for me, but I just don't get it. How is the G2 so much more customizable than than MT4G? Sure it has a physical keyboard, so it's got more in that sense, but as far as OS features go I just don't see a huge difference. On the con side it has extra bulk/thickness. The hinges are prone to failure and it's missing the FFC. I actually think G2 should be more customizable than stock allows. I like Cyanogen roms, so if the MT4G can be rooted and Cyanogen supported then there is no question that MT4G would be a better phone for me. Even without Cyanogen and full root I'd say that MT4G is a tiny bit better. They're even phones at the least.
By the way, you're going to get people that are biased towards the G2 on this thread, and you will get people that are biased towards the MT4G on the MT4G thread. You will also see that bias in the poll.
I like the g2 because I really don't like the way the camera is on the mytouch.. they fact that its raised on the back of the device just annoys me and it feels like u would scratch the lens way too easily. I also like the build quality of the g2 better than the mytouch

MT4G
Totally feel your pain cause I was in the same boat. Had the Nexus for almost a year until I replaced it with the G2.
I really like how the G2 lies in your hand when you're browsing the web in landscape mode with the keyboard out. I'm not a huge fan of the keyboard mainly because it doesn't have dedicated number keys and the size of it makes typing slower and more strenuous than on the G1 (which I had before the Nexus).
I was also a bit annoyed by the way the keyboard backlighting kept turning itself on and off in medium light conditions without having the option to have it always on when the keyboard is used.
The hinge is a big question mark with some disaster potential. I guess only time will tell. Having said that I didn't mind the looseness too much. I also really like the slick business look to the G2 although it is definitely bulky when compared to my nexus or the MT4G. Overall it's an awesome device though and I definitely grew font of it during the 3 weeks I owned it.
When the MT4G came out I decided to give it a try cause I still had 10 days in my remorse period. The genius button and mysense took some getting used to. Definitely prefer vanilla android. LauncherPro, visionary, and Titanium Backup helped me remove a lot of crap and get a bit more vanilla flare back although there are also certain things I like better about the sense UI (copy/paste, eMail app, facebook app,)
I like the camera app better on the MT4G. Simply takes better pictures. FFC isnt a big deal for me but certainly doesn't hurt.
I definitely miss the soft buttons on the MT4G. The plastic hard buttons feel a little cheap and I would prefer not having to actually click them. I guess its cause I've been so used to the Nexus. I also agree with parts of the Engadget review about the lag of aesthetics. Overall the MT4G feels a lot thinner and smaller though which was what won me over.
Verdict:
I still have 4 days left in my remorse period but decided to keep the MT4G. Both are good devices so it totally depends on what you want. In the end it was the thinness that won me over to the MT4G and the black looks actually quite slick. Good luck deciding and just remember, you really can't go wrong with either one.
G2. Better UI. No silly MySense interface that MT4G has. Only good thing about the MT4G is the FF camera but so be it. G2 is the best way to go if your looking to get something for grown up (in a sense).
after messing with my little sisters mytouch i told her how much i didn't like it and she said i don't care i can talk text and video chat. then i asked video chat with who? and she walked away ha.
the my touch seems like it's just geared more towards highschool girls
keyboard vs touchkeys only. best looking device ever vs mytouch line of plastic cheapo. love the commercials tho

have you held a mytouch 4g? its nothing like the old ones, i had a g2 and returned it for a mytouch, they feel the same solid in my hand....well actually with no loose hinge wiggle, the mytouch feels better built
And best looking is very subjective....when i had the g2 and vibrant at the same time, my friends saw the g2 as a downgrade in the looks department
Is there anything I should know before making this trade?
Also, is the G2 easy to flash? Good ROMS available? Anyone else have a G2 that replaced your Vibrant? Are you happier with the G2? ect.
Thanks.

if cyanogen has been 'good' to your opinion in the past, yes. there is a nightly gingerbread which i'm enjoying very much right now.
my g2 gets about a 16 day on a stock battery charge, light usage. heavy usage = 12 hours. no useage = not sure, but better than a day.
sorry, no comment on the vibrant.
I am wary of the person who want's to trade away his G2, because the G2 is obviously better than the vibrant in every single way.
If there is nothing wrong with his G2, fuking grab up that shiet ASAP.
Dev for G2 is great. There is at least like 4 different ROMS currently available. The community here is great. The G2 has better hardware...

Can someone explain to me how the g2 is "better than the vibrant in every way"? Sure, the vibrant doesn't have the support the g2 does, but it can be just as quick, has a larger screen, lighter and sleeker.
Stock for stock, the g2 wins of course. Modded, it's personal opinion. I prefer the sleeker phone and don't need a physical keypad. If you need a physical keypad, obviously the g2 beats out just about everything else out there with one.

okay so i got both these phones and i find that i like the vibrant better. i leave my g2 just sitting at my desk and i barely got it like a week or two ago. yes i did perm root it and it has s off and all that and its running a virtous (correct me if i got the name wrong) sense rom. i like my g2 sometimes but the vibrant right now has more development and the g2 hasnt really had any new roms for like a while now. so i stick to the vibrant becasue mostly everyday theres a new update to a rom or someone finds a cool hack. anyways i think you should stick to the vibrant, personally i like my vibrant more, plus correct me if im wrong but i havent seen a modem thread for the g2 or a dragon kernel or any of the things team whiskey puts together. please g2 fan boys dont hate me, i do love my g2 too (lol) and i actually find it useful sometimes. i just think the vibrant is doing better right now. imho thats what i think. : /
I had both, vibrants got a gorgeous screen, but thats about the only plus. Built quality and hardware are far superior on the G2. You don't need a 1.512 GHz phone, but isn't it nice to know its capable?
Having only slate phones for a year and a half (mt3g, Nexus, Virbant) after selling my G1, I taught would never need a physical keyboard, but after using the G2 for 2 weeks I can't see myself ever typing on the virtual keyboard, even tho I LOVE Swiftkey. Even with the insanely smart predictive UI of Swiftkey I still type much faster on a hardware keyboard.
I Have both a Vibrant and a G2. I love my G2, but I am considering selling my Vibrant. The build quality is much better on the G2. The two main two things I don't like about the Vibrant are the lack of trackpad and the seriously poor quality of the GPS. Also I like having the option of using a physical keyboard and I don't care for the screen, I prefer the higher pixel density of the G2 and the colors of the Vibrant seem a bit off to me. Plus let's not forget that the G2 supports 4G, and the Vibrant does not.

This guy has obviously not try MIUI
Vibrant DOES NOT have more support that the G2
just look at t he G2 section and tell me there no new roms
every rom is CONSTANTLY updated with better support
vibrant only has like 2 good ROMS to try while G2 has 4 or so
each with unique features.
The Vibrant does have a bunch of ROMs available, however none of them have been completely stable for me. I thought with the official 2.2 release that would be fixed, but I'm still dealing with all the same crap.
I went and checked out the G2 in the store yesterday and I definitely like it. I think the screen looks great and can't understand why people bash it.
Dude that's willing to trade said I need to unlock the Vibrant first, which I think I've already managed. I'll definitely be trading.
Also, I noticed theres two G2 forums. Which is for the T-mobile version. Thanks again.
There are two phones called the G2. In the UK, there was a phone called the G2 Touch which was basically a Hero or some crap. The G2 in the USA, its this forum here, the G2 and Desire Z forums.
Ok, thanks for clearing that up.
I cannot think of a smartphone of this caliber with better battery life than the G2. I have had the vibrant and battery life was not as good
Thanks for all the replies, guys.
Thought of another question: what vital accessories did the phone come with? I read 8gig san disk class 2 sd. Wall charger, I assume. Car charger? Dock? Ect. Anything else I should know of? I figure I can test everything but wifi if I meet this dude somewhere random.
I am a proud G2 owner, it's a good phone. When my upgrade came I had the option to pick any of the t-mo phones. It was between the vibrant and the G2, but I got it for it's keyboard really... Also the fact that my previous phone was a G1, so it felt like it was the right phone to follow up on. I enjoy it. It does everything I want it to do and then some.
My girlfriend has a vibrant and it's also a fast phone. I've played games and console emulators on it with no problem. Sometimes her phone can be sluggish but she is stock and not rooted so I can't really say that it's the hardware. Only thing I dislike about it is the on-screen keyboard and 3G only data speeds.
If the G2 hadn't existed, I would probably be using a Vibrant. Really though it boils down to what you want in a device and there's a lot of choices out there. I mean why even ask us? Android was created to give you a choice. If you want limited options, go buy an iPhone hahaha.
(Side Note, There's a lot of douche bag's in these G2/Dz forums. Just check out the flame/actual support ratio in Q&A threads)
I'm another that has both. My wife is using my Vibrant right now me opting for either my G2 with Virtuous or my HD2 running Gingerbread. I really like the form factor of the Vibrant and the bigger screen. It's super thin and light and disappears in your pocket. The G2 on the other hand is much much heavier and makes a noticeable bulge in your pocket. Vibrant has a better screen that works better in sunlight. The thing I didn't like about the vibrant was how sluggish it felt in comparison to the G2. Both got me through a day with normal use though I might give a slight edge to the G2 in battery life. I never had a problem with the build quality of the vibrant. IMHO both are good phones. I went with the G2 because I just think it runs better in day to day use. But the weight and form factor have me seriously considering going back to the Vibrant. Honestly I like my HD2 better than either after all this time it's still my favorite piece of phone hardware I've ever used. I just wished it ran Android as good at the G2.
I've owned both, and can list the advantages of each.
Vibrant:
SAMOLED screen looks better
Larger screen (larger phone, too - maybe an issue)
Better sound
More internal storage (with limits - partition doesn't necessarily give more internal app storage since most is partitioned like SD storage)
G2:
Better, more durable build
Both trackpad and speaker grill LED notifications (Vibrant has none)
Functional GPS (huge deal for me)
Both vendor and community supported android development (much better than Vibrant)
Trackpad
Keyboard
Most everything else was the same, but I far prefer my G2 over the Vibrant, with no reservations at all. It's been a stellar performer and the community support is over the top, and the fact that it's Cyanogen's current fave doesn't hurt. I'm also assuming you're rooting both phones, since you're posting here.
I just made the switch last Friday. Vibrant on Bionix V vs G2 on CM6.1.1
The only thing the Vibrant has on the G2 is the screen. I absolutely love the Vibrant's screen.
IMO, you wont see GB on the Galaxy S line for awhile. Why? Galaxy uses RFS natively for its file system. And you can't say that because the Nexus S is on GB, it'll be easy to port to the Galaxy S line.
And lastly, the number one reason I made the switch was because the G2 will see better/faster GB support than the Vibrant. I don't want a phone that is orphaned as fast as the Vibrant has. Shoot, they have the Vibrant 4g now.

Don't forget that there is no CM support for the Vibrant right now.
suggestions ???
deciding factor will be battery and camera
If your deciding factors are the camera and battery - this definitely.
I went for this due to the Nexus 4 having a ****ty battery. Sick of the Nexus devices being a nearly there device.
Since you are posting this in the G2 forum you should probably expect lots of "buy the G2" answers, of course.
But yeah if the deciding factors are camera and battery, G2 will win on both of those, no doubt about it. Unless all these Nexus leaks have been totally fake and Google releases a completely different N5 than we've all been expecting. That doesn't seem very likely, so buy the G2.

Ill tell you something, The Nexus 5 will be all AOSP stock based, As of right now of the time of this writing the Verizon G2 has 10 roms, half are stock based half are open source based. With a stable CM base that just came out a day ago 5 AOSP based roms have dropped in this one section alone already. Suffice it to say there will be no shortage of open source Roms and clearly this seems evident from the sudden burst of AOSP based roms. On top of that the G2 will have its stock based Roms as well so this makes it a very versatile device to the N5, which will just be Pure AOSP, and a little boring for my taste. Having Stock and AOSP based official Roms makes it a double edged sword, it gives you more options when Rom hunting.
Better camera and bigger battery. So, what stop you?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
while i really welcome the ROMs popping up, you still can't compare it with a nexus experience, first off Aosp on LG2 will always have some **** reverse engineered drivers, workarounds,......... it for sure will hit a level were it works good, but that's it.
On the other side a Nexus Device will get support also from devs much longer then any branded bloatware phone, you will see so many different ROMs, Aosp based but also ports from other devices, Miui, Sony, Samsung,......... and any of this will work perfect from day one because there is no need to reverse engineer any driver.
The only thing what I really like about the G2 is it's huge battery, but then again we still don't know how the N5 will work with its 2300mah or maybe more battery, or if kit kat really improves battery usage.
So personally I would wait for the official release and then for the first reviews, then it is still soon enough to make a decision.

Do you want a larger screen ?
Do you want a better battery ?
Do you want a 13MP camera ?
Do you want the "knock-on" feature in order to keep your power button from wearing because the thousands of presses ?
Do you want an FM radio ?
Do you want a universal IR remote to switch the TV channel to your favorite channel in public places ?
If yes, you don't really have any other choice.
These phones are only current for 1 year anyway, then their hardware becomes obsolete.
get the G2. I just cant kill this thing. I am too spoiled with bigger batteries. I have high hopes for the nexus but the battery compromise sucks. but it makes sense because who would buy a G2 then? I had the G2 then left it for the note 3. and got rid of the note 3 and went back to G2 so that says a lot. if the nexus would have a 3000ma battery then its a no brainer. but at this point no one knows
Walter21026 said:
On top of that the G2 will have its stock based Roms as well so this makes it a very versatile device to the N5, which will just be Pure AOSP, and a little boring for my taste. Having Stock and AOSP based official Roms makes it a double edged sword, it gives you more options when Rom hunting.

I dont know why people talk about CM, AOSP, etc, in my experience with Galaxy S2 that roms are horrible compared with stock, lockups, gps not functioning, battery horrible, the only advantage is costumization, besides that there is no advantage compared with stock, at least in my experiencie.
There is no comparison between N5 and G2, N5 will be an inferior product.
So tired of the Nexus line. They always have hardware compromises somewhere. Small storage, bad camera, whatever. I'd rather get the hardware I want, then flash the rom that makes me happy, rather than have great software but never be able to change the crappy camera or small battery or whatever.
So get the G2.

Look, I owned two genuine Nexus devices and seen more. They are nothing special.
Snappy, let's stay stable. But lacking something extra you can get here.
And mostly due to cutting costs, some parts not as good as the branded alternative.
If you do not have the money for a G2 wait for the nexus.
If you do. G2 is really worth the money.
Think about it like this. You can make the G2 into a nexus like device. But you wont be able turn the nexus into the G2. (Missing hw etc)

Yeah you got a big point here. But the weird button placement kinda push me back.
And seems like there is more development on verizon G2 than international..
(Can't we flash verizon's on intl? )
(Even tho the intl got Cyano and AOKP as I saw)

Yeah, I saw the battery life reports, performance etc, the device is beautiful, borderless, but when you drop it, you're more likely to break the screen. (even if I droped my n4 2 times in 8 month time) This is really some stuff I gotta take in count.
Besides everything that has been said already, I really like the power/volume buttons on the back. Theyve grown on me, I find them useful and its unique, and the power button is another extra led light btw. The button placements on the nexus 5 is ehh basic and I'm not a fan of the way that camera lens looks on the back. Like others said go for the G2 if you have the money, if not nexus 5 is fine too.
bought G2 today ! :victory:
will get by monday !
32gb white
I'm sick of waiting. I'm getting the G2 tomorrow.

Yeah they only have 32g here. Will be nice coming from the S2 and it's 16g.
Hey gentlemen.
Verizon Variant still has no bootloader bypass to flash kernels and development as of 11/19/2013 seems to be a ghost town.
While the G2 scene compared to ours is on fire.
Anyone thinking about moving to the G2?
The white VZW G2 renders I have seen look pretty hot.
Right now the G2 has Loki, so they can flash kernels, etc and with it being the Nexus 5's sister phone
kitkat and 5.0 should come quickly.
thoughts?
If I was in my 14 day window I would try out the G2.
Im fed up with the radios on Samsung phones.

Kinda. I guess if you're after AOSP stuff, I can see how the N3 situation would be depressing. Having many roms for many years, we're not in a bad place. KitKat will come soon, we're otherwise one of the few devices that is/was on 4.3. Custom kernels rarely amount to anything worthwhile but a bit of extra battery life. I haven't gone back to look at Note 2 stuff though I still have the device laying around, but I'm not sure how well they integrated the S-Pen in any of it.
The G2 is somewhat appealing, but the N3 is still the top device on the market (specs alone, not to mention battery size + removability and microSD). We have custom roms now (you can even safestrap beans, back it up, restore it over stock, delete the old rom slot and run completely custom with no issues). I came to the Note 2 and now 3 because of the S-Pen, and no other phone is on the horizon with anything comparable - otherwise I might have a more normal sized phone - except, again, the N3 is the top specced phone on the market, so I might have it anyway.
If the new HTC One/M8 met or exceeded the N3 specs, plus microSD and removable battery, I'd strongly consider jumping ship. HTC build quality is still so much better than Samsung/LG, and they are continuing to make camera a priority. It's a shame we can't get a Lumia 1020-level camera device on Android. I'd leave the N3 for that, for sure.
Edit: And yes, radios! My HTC Rezound had so much better radios than any Samsung.
I'd say that the Note 3 is the best phone I've owned. I'm not looking into a change at this time. I live more in apps than the OS so I'm OK with Touchwiz for the time being.
I was at sprint the other day checking out htc one max and the white g2 is sharp except it feels like crap in hand and ui is awful i think. and buttons on the back get out. on a side note wish verizon has a red htc one cause it looks hot!!
I used to be a AOSP/AOKP Gnex guy. But I DO really enjoy touchwiz believe it or not!.
However, the option for true Hybrid roms would be great, plus having the leg up on waiting ages for either Samsung OR LG to update
thier devices once Android 5 or whatever comes around the Devs are always first.
Kernels are a pretty big deal for many features other than battery life.
Idk. I just think back to the Droid X days where the bootloader/Kernel really crippled the device in terms of making full use of the hardware.
Kinda torn. the Note 3 is a beast.
but so is the G2, while feeling better in the hand.

Like I said, if it weren't for the S-Pen, I doubt I'd have had a Note 2, much less a Note 3. With the leaks of the HTC One replacement/update, I'd probably have a G2 right now and be waiting to jump to the HTC .. assuming I could get over not having microSD/removable battery.
And don't discount the Galaxy S5. You have to figure Samsung has some solid upgrades in store for that, likely above what the N3 has.

Have you thought about getting your phone replaced? Maybe you have a defective unit? I have two Note 3s at home , 3 co-workers have it, and my cousin and his fiancé have it and none of ours have signal/reception issues. Hoping your radio problems are solved soon, sir.

Hi,
I'm think about getting the LG2 D802. I know it's getting older - but I was looking for the following things, and after some research G2 seems like a good condidate:
- I'm not looking for something super new and expensive. As I use the phone for calls, reading eBooks while on the bus and sometimes playing a casual game. I like the screen-size.
- My previous device was HTC One X which had excellent screen with great colors. This is somehow spoiled me, and when screen quality is poor - I can see it easily
- Comes good out of the box - I used to play around with Android devices - Root them, Install custom ROM. But I don't have too much time for this those days. I heard the G2 have a decent stock rom without too much vendor junk on it.
My other option was G3, but at least from older posts, the G3 seems to have battery issues and getting warmer more often. I saw some benchmark showing the G2 being faster on menu navigation. Is is still true for those days? or the G3 problem has been fixed and I should go with it instead?
Also - I saw a friend phone with 4.2.2 and it works pretty good. I heard the 5.0 updates has some memory leaks and other issues alike? the 5.1 fixes those?
Thanks!
The phone is prettt great. But from personal experience i would not go back because of screen problems. I had a dead zone and ghosts touches. And from what i know it cannot be fixed.
Its is amaizing fast amaizing camera and still fast.
But beware of that screen problem that some people deal with including me.
The nexus 6 is a great option its going to be my next phone.

Ermm. I wasn't aware of screen problem. How much time you own the phone? Does it happen on all models? Im planning to be D802ץ
I had it for six months.
Like i said it is an amaizing phone. But it has that one flaw. I had it on d80020y. Then updated to d80030f. But this seems to affect all models regardless of firmwire.
It doesnt matter if you never rom or root.
Research a little bit and you will see what i am talking about.

Hi,
I have my second G2 after I broke my first one. I liked it so much, I got a new (used) one. I don't regret it! Especially when I consider the stuff what you can do with it, custom tom, this, that... I I were you I'd buy the G2 and tweak it a little bit...
Never had any screen problems! Neither with the old phone not with this one...
Still good and enugh for you.
Best advice:
Go back and read our older posts from 2 years ago when the phone was new.
Now read some of the current posts from the people who still have the device such as myself.
Long story short, there's a reason why alot of us early adopters held onto our G2s without a need to upgrade.
Its that good
new or used?
If new, there are so many other better phones to be had. I would much rather get a 2014 moto x, a nexus 5x, a oneplus x, or a used iphone 6. While the g2 was/is a fantastic phone, it does have it's shortcomings - plastic and mediocre feeling build quality(compared to the moto x, oneplus x, and iphone 6), glossy back, non-conventional button placement, camera has poor dynamic range, no marshmallow update...
If used, the g2 can be a fantastic deal if you can get it cheap enough. The only thing to keep in mind is that the battery seems to only be good for 1.5-2 years max. Also, buying a 2+ year old used phone is inherently risky and it may or many not be 100%. I bought one in seemingly mint condition for $100 not too long ago and the battery had only 50% capacity. Also, the plastic back cover is creaky which is kind of annoying - this is a common complaint.
If you don't have a super tight budget go with one of the aforementioned newer, more premium phones. You will be MUCH happier.
yes

Still a good device, i owned one when right after release , after few months went for a Nexus 5
Who died in water
Now got myself a lg g2 again
But this time a second hands korean f320l
With spare battery and sd slot
Flashed cloudyg2 3.3 on it
And runs superb
Verstuurd vanaf mijn LG-F320L met Tapatalk
Still a good deal, phone is smooth as hell, the display is beautiful, the sizes are perfect (it has almost the same sizes as my 4.7" Nexus 4), if you can get a cheap one then go for it. Never had screen issues and I've been flashing things (that's when it gets really hot and screen problems can come out).

If you're buying it new and at a good price, you're getting a very special phone.
I just ordered two new batteries and some new casing - I'm going to keep this phone forever. It's already two years old.
No phone I've had has been better.
One thing. Don't get the 16gb. It's just too small now, your won't last a year more. It has to be the 32gb.
And don't bother with the G3, the battery will kill you.
Fantastic phone. I have the D801 (T-Mobile) version, and it has been problem - free from the start. Also have a Moto Maxx and a One M9, but if I could only keep one phone, I would actually choose the G2. It does everything well, and I haven't yet found a shortcoming.
Buy it!
I got my G2 D802 for £110 (brand new) on eBay (search it) . And God, it was was worth every penny. I think that unless you want a 64bit (slower) new processorprocessor, there is no reason to buy the newer budget phones like the Motorola Motor G, which are rather cheap quality with lower res screens, fatter bodies and not as good battery life.
Buy the G2, it's perfect in every way except for lack of SD card which is only a problem to some people. Also, you want to check out my review on my blog, interestconcentrated.blogspot.com/2015/09/week-2-with-g2.html. I bought less than two months, so it's very relevant. Hope it helps! ☺
Also, you might wanna check out the G3 on Ebay, it's available for £155
The default firmware sucks as it's poorly designed/ugly/slower than a custom rom like AICP. Really happy with the phone, my s3 sucks in comparison and the buttons are well placed on the g2. Only pitfall is battery life on a non-stock rom, marshmallow may fix that
Ive had the phone for about 16 months. Working perfectly fine. Nothing wrong with the phone. D802 also.
Pros -
Great screen
Great battery on Jellybean and Kitkat
Lg doesnt have too much bloatware
Sound output is best
Perfect size
Can run pretty much every game without lag
Cons -
Battery life is reduced on lollipop 5.0.2. We don't have a 5.1.
Camera is decent, nothing special.
If you do get the phone, i recommend flashing Cloudyg2 2.2. Not 3.3 which is lollipop. Just leave it at that.
Thanks everyone for your help! I think I'll be grabbing the G2. I might root it later on, but for now - it seems like a better idea is to stay on 4.2 and avoid upgrading to 5?
Thanks!

Keep your eyes on the forums as well.
Last week I saw an update for my G2 while I was in the process of repairing my screen.
I didn't download it but my guess is its 5.1.1 for Tmobile.
I've heard 5.1.1 fixed alot of Lollipop issues for Android in general.
If and when D802 gets this version I'd recommend you investigate and see if it may be a good stock ROM to use.
Also if you ever need to replace the battery in the future, don't fret. Its very easy process and takes 15-20 minutes
The upside is amazing battery life again just like brand new

Yes, stay on 4.4.2 20H firmware if you want to run stock. Disable all the bloat, use a different launcher and your good to go. :victory:
Just remember that all the Nexus 5.0.X firmware still had the memory leek. LG may have sorted it for there 5.0.2 but I wouldn't put money on it.
Hi, i think Lg G2 is still worth it, i bougth mine 4 months ago, and i am really happy with it.
It is fast, has Lte, a nice camera, despite it is a medium-bad camera at low light places.
I spent 250 euros on a promo. It was a nice deal i think
After i bougth it i flashed CM 12.1 eheh
I hope i could help!
Best regards
