Happy I bought a Vibrant instead of a G2

I'm very happy about my choice regarding the Vibrant, it seems like the G2 has more issues than the Vibrant at launch, broken slider, root issues, lost space & what else?
Although I miss my G1, cuz the GPS/compass was awesome, im happy I upgraded to the Vibrant

well I've actually played with a G2, and the screen cover was crap plastic.
It made the phone feel cheap.
the camera quality isn't as good.
I noticed some tearing while moving between screens.
It wasn't as smooth as the vibrant.
IMHO Nexus1 > G2

i love my Vibrant. [first Android phone ever too].
But I can't say much about the G2.

I am super glad I wasn't able to sell my phone and jump to G2. Holy crap a dedicated chip to prevent permanent modifications! WAT!?
I thought the whole idea of Android was open source. Oh well Cyanogen has one so he will probably have CM 6.1 on it before #blamewes gets it on Vibrant

Zaduma i agree with you on that one. Im sure developers will unlock it somehow. I have the vibrant and the screen is easily the best one ever. I dont really need hspa+ cause data is fast enough for me.

I have both devices and an N1. I love the screen on the Vibrant. I love everything else about the G2. Even with JI6 GPS Fix the G2 gets a lock 10x Faster and is more accurate. The signal is stronger in all ways with the G2.
You can't beat the graphics processing or the screen on the Vibrant, IMO the G2 is better at everything else.
Of course it is all opinion. If you don't use GPS and use your phone as if it were a PSP then get a Vibrant. If you want solid, quick, every day usage and a need/want a reliable GPS then get the G2.
You are really comparing Apples to Oranges. Each device is targeting a different group of users. I like both, so I have both.

I had the Vibrant for 3 months, I love my G2 so much more.

[Q] myTouch 4G or G2

Ok I am going to ask this question once, state all your opinions don't hold back and people please do not start a flame war. Be civilized and to each their own opinion, we are technically the same android family and also both use T-Mobile.

Dude this topic has been discussed to the...I will suggest go with what your heart says, they are both good phones so what ever makes you feel excited, no phone is perfect and will have u desire more and that's exactly the point when they design these phones. For me G2 being stock is reason enough every else is welcome bonus.

G2 because it doesn't look like ass. That Genius button would annoy the hell out of me too. Looks so stupid and useless.

Engadget did a great review on both the G2 and the myTouch 4G.
After reading them both, I am glad I went with the G2 instead of the 4G.
Read it for yourself and maybe it'll help you in your decision.

Depends on you really. Your needs and style is what should influence you the most. For me, I got the g2 it does everything I need, and I know that the extra features will be unnoticeable or unused for the mt4g.

I have both in front of me - and I'm 100% in the "G2" team. The MT4G looks slick, but they have tweaked and modded Android to the point where it just pisses me off.
Every single app has something stock android doesn't do. After coming from the N1, the G2 feels the most like it, but the MT4G is in a league of its own. I'm sure it has a following, but it sure as hell isn't designed for people who like to tinker with their devices.

I have both phones in front of me, and I've been playing with them for a few days. I came from a G1 and I thought that G2 would be the one for me, but I just don't get it. How is the G2 so much more customizable than than MT4G? Sure it has a physical keyboard, so it's got more in that sense, but as far as OS features go I just don't see a huge difference. On the con side it has extra bulk/thickness. The hinges are prone to failure and it's missing the FFC. I actually think G2 should be more customizable than stock allows. I like Cyanogen roms, so if the MT4G can be rooted and Cyanogen supported then there is no question that MT4G would be a better phone for me. Even without Cyanogen and full root I'd say that MT4G is a tiny bit better. They're even phones at the least.
By the way, you're going to get people that are biased towards the G2 on this thread, and you will get people that are biased towards the MT4G on the MT4G thread. You will also see that bias in the poll.

I like the g2 because I really don't like the way the camera is on the mytouch.. they fact that its raised on the back of the device just annoys me and it feels like u would scratch the lens way too easily. I also like the build quality of the g2 better than the mytouch

Totally feel your pain cause I was in the same boat. Had the Nexus for almost a year until I replaced it with the G2.
I really like how the G2 lies in your hand when you're browsing the web in landscape mode with the keyboard out. I'm not a huge fan of the keyboard mainly because it doesn't have dedicated number keys and the size of it makes typing slower and more strenuous than on the G1 (which I had before the Nexus).
I was also a bit annoyed by the way the keyboard backlighting kept turning itself on and off in medium light conditions without having the option to have it always on when the keyboard is used.
The hinge is a big question mark with some disaster potential. I guess only time will tell. Having said that I didn't mind the looseness too much. I also really like the slick business look to the G2 although it is definitely bulky when compared to my nexus or the MT4G. Overall it's an awesome device though and I definitely grew font of it during the 3 weeks I owned it.
When the MT4G came out I decided to give it a try cause I still had 10 days in my remorse period. The genius button and mysense took some getting used to. Definitely prefer vanilla android. LauncherPro, visionary, and Titanium Backup helped me remove a lot of crap and get a bit more vanilla flare back although there are also certain things I like better about the sense UI (copy/paste, eMail app, facebook app,)
I like the camera app better on the MT4G. Simply takes better pictures. FFC isnt a big deal for me but certainly doesn't hurt.
I definitely miss the soft buttons on the MT4G. The plastic hard buttons feel a little cheap and I would prefer not having to actually click them. I guess its cause I've been so used to the Nexus. I also agree with parts of the Engadget review about the lag of aesthetics. Overall the MT4G feels a lot thinner and smaller though which was what won me over.
Verdict:
I still have 4 days left in my remorse period but decided to keep the MT4G. Both are good devices so it totally depends on what you want. In the end it was the thinness that won me over to the MT4G and the black looks actually quite slick. Good luck deciding and just remember, you really can't go wrong with either one.

G2. Better UI. No silly MySense interface that MT4G has. Only good thing about the MT4G is the FF camera but so be it. G2 is the best way to go if your looking to get something for grown up (in a sense).

after messing with my little sisters mytouch i told her how much i didn't like it and she said i don't care i can talk text and video chat. then i asked video chat with who? and she walked away ha.
the my touch seems like it's just geared more towards highschool girls

have you held a mytouch 4g? its nothing like the old ones, i had a g2 and returned it for a mytouch, they feel the same solid in my hand....well actually with no loose hinge wiggle, the mytouch feels better built
And best looking is very subjective....when i had the g2 and vibrant at the same time, my friends saw the g2 as a downgrade in the looks department

Should I return and get a G2?

So I got the Samsung Galaxy S 4G on friday and idk what it is but im iffy on it. I like everything about it no complaints but the G2 has been on my eye since it came out. So im asking you all with your own experience with the G2 if i should go return and get one.

Haven't personally used the galaxy S 4g. Is it the same as the previous one, but with a new radio in it basically? Seems to be the case.
The G2 is a great phone and I'm sure you'll obviously get mostly positive reviews in the G2 section, but its up to you really. At this point in time, unfortunately, the G2 is starting to get a bit dated (sad considering it just came out in September), but then again the GS 4G is gonna be shadowed by the newer Galaxy S II devices coming out soon as well all the same. I would put them in the same group really.
The phones are quite different, considering that the G2 is stock android and a keyboard slider, whereas the Galaxy S 4G has a customized TouchWiz UI and no keyboard. Performance is about the same I'm sure, but its really up to your preferences at that point. The GS 4G has a front facing camera, and a slightly faster processor (out of the box that is, you can overclock the G2 just as much), and other than that, not much. The biggest deal is which form factor you like more.
If you plan on rooting your phone and going that route, and that is something that is important to you, maybe you should look and see how the dev communities of each phone suit you. This also means that the stock software differences between the 2 wont really matter because you'll be putting custom ROMs on it anyways then.

If the Vibrant 4g is the same thing as the Vibrant except for the 4g chip, go for the g2. I came from a Vibrant to a g2, and I wish I had done it earlier. The g2 is faster straight out of the box, no stupid lagfixes needed. I was at first concerned about going from a 1ghz chip to an 800, but the g2 blows the Vibrant away, even without overclocking.

Yea lol so true but I wouldn't mind having a phone with a bigger screen since I peronally like big screens but that's me. As for the G2 its a fast phone, never shows lag even if you have filled the screen with wigets

To me the vibrant was light and simple. Great for calls and watching movies and listening to music. I do a lot more on my G2. Emails, more texting... I just feel more productive with a keyboard.

Word... To be honest, you really don't notice much of a difference between the 2 screen sizes. Watching Inception on 4 inches vs 3.7 is not going to show you what you were missing out on. It's still a tiny screen for movies. The difference with the screen will be the LCD vs SAMOLED. Its nice, but not worth everything else the G2 has, from amazing hardware, software and dev support to the camera flash and slide out keyboard.
Unless you do some serious video chatting, I'd get a G2 and wait to majorly upgrade in 6 months or so when we have a bunch of dual cores on the market.

Trust me, go with the galaxy s, once you root it you will love it. It has a faster processor than the g2, a bigger screen, a super amoled display, and is thinner and more durable. I felt the same way you feel at first about my galaxy s, but now this is the only phone I want. Its AMAZING.

Let me preface this by saying to each his own. I would never discourage someone from trying any other Android phone. That being said.... I have never used a Fascinate but had a Vibrant and LOVED it until I realized how awesome the G2 is. The problem is, the ONLY way to love that phone, is to root it. And even then, a lagfix must be implemented for decent performance. I remember when I shat my pants because the Vibrant could be OC'd to 1.4gzh and show me a Quad of 2300. My G2 can do that if I submerge it in the toilet and run Rhapsody while I OC and run the benchmark (hyperbole alert).
Maybe the GPS is fixed on the SGS4G, but it was awful on the Vibrant for so many people. It's durability is easily questionable, as it feels like it is made of dollar store parts. It only has a faster processor out of the box. The G2 is capable of much, MUCH more.
Bottom line, IMO, if one is better than the other, the differences come down to user preference and not general real world experience. Team Whiskey makes some AMAZING ROMs for the Vibrant, but CM is barely limping along with bug after bug. And I don't even know for sure that Vibrant ROMs can be run on the SGS4G, or how complicated that particular Port is.

Thanks for the input guys I have 1 week to decide what to do. I was wondering what the Quad for the G2 is just off the bat because mine is only about 975.

i have used a few phones beforee settling on my g2. one of htem was the samsung captivate which is basically the galaxy s 4g in a different body and without the 4g. i can tell you that the g2 is way better. samsung makes th galaxy s phones really crappy(all plastic) and probably wont ever give the new galaxy s an update that all of the other galaxy s users are still waiting for(2.2!).

I have had stock Quad scored range from 1500 - 2000, rooted and OC'd I can get in the 3000's

if i were you then i would exchange them, but i cant work without a physical keyboard

I have a regular Vibrant and a G2 (one is a work phone). Both rooted on custom ROMs. G2 is on CM7 while Vibrant is still on Froyo.
If they could have put the Vibrant screen on the G2, it would be the best phone on the market. I'm not saying just because of the keyboard, but the G2 is a more solid phone over all. It's faster (albeit, overclocked) over all.
To each his own though. Having CM7 is worth it for me.

IMO G2/Desire Z is one of the best phones out there and is worth the money. I have been using it since december, been back and forth between nexus one, desire, desire z and i am finally picking up my dz back. not letting it go this time... love this phone... it really rocks...

I'm currently a captivate user on att contract, and I am thinking about jumping over to a DZ... but I am having trouble justifying paying 500$-ish for a new unlocked phone that people are starting to call "dated."
However, I made it a point to myself that I will NEVER buy a smartphone without a physical qwerty ever again. Swype was cool for a few months, but it's impossible to be productive with an entirely touch screen phone... and to me that's just a contradiction to the "smart" in smartphone itself

Could always wait alittle longer for the "next-gen" dual core phones set to be released later this year

no i dont recommend this phone..if u rly rly need a keyboard phone then u can get it otherwise i recommend nexus S

[Q] G2 ->MT4G: Anyone made the journey? Dets?

So I got caught up in the M-Atrix for a minute, but decided to take the blue pill (or was it the red pill?) and get out. Now though I am missing the ffc, battery life, and feel back here in DeZireland (G2), so I am thinking of swapping my G2 for a MT4G and I am looking for feedback from those that have made the journey already. What are your pros and cons? An inquiring mind wants to know.

My last phone was a G2. I thought it was a great phone. Internally both phones are about the same. If you are staying stock, you need to ask yourself do you like Vanilla Android, or do you like the MySense UI that the myTouch line offers. Hardware wise, the only difference between the two is the G2 has a keyboard and the MT4G has the FFC. They both have smartphone-like battery life.
If you are rooting, the UI is immaterial, as you could flash whichever you wanted on either phone. Personally, I found myself never using the physical keyboard because I love Swype. And while I don't use it for video chat, the FFC is cool as hell to me. As soon as I get a few more friends with FFCs I will be all over the video chat.
So I guess basically comes down to either the physical keyboard or FFC. Which do you want more?

The myTouch has 768mb of memory as opposed to the G2 with 512mb... only main difference than otherwise posted I love my mt4g much more than when I had the G2.. The hinge on the G2 ended up bugging me to the point where I used a rubber band to hold it closed (I then just exchanged it for the mTouch lol).
Both phones are great minus a few small issues.. G2's vanilla is nice for dev's and people who don't like Sense (Sense rocks with a small overclock in my opinion). I liked the notification light built around the trackpad on the G2. The slightly larger screen on the mTouch was noticeable for me, and the overall thinness.

Well I happen to own both of the phones. And I have to say that MyTouch 4G is much better! They both have almost the same specs but you really notice the difference when running many apps at once. The MyTouch 4g is a mutlitasking monster with 768MB ram! And coupled with faux123's kernel you can't go wrong! Only thing I like ym G2 for is playing SNESoid and others. But i'm about to get bluetooth controller so... GO MYTOUCH!

I just switched from the G2 to the myTouch 4G...personally think I've done the better decision...actually went from G2 -> Vibrant 4G -> myTouch4G.
I actually ran the myTouch4G rom on my G2 so there isn't anything different rom wise but performance I think it runs much faster than the G2 did and I haven't overclocked mine.

They also have different processors. The G2 has an 800Mhz Scorpion and the myTouch has a 1Ghz Snapdragon.
I just made the switch from G2 to mT4G. Couldn't be happier. I thought I would use the keyboard on the G2 but never did. The mT4G is lighter and much thinner.
I will say that IMO the Dev scene is better for the G2 than the mT4G. Just my opinion... But if you are going to use CM it doesn't matter.
FFC Rocks!

Passed on the G2 to the wife. Couldn't stand the bulk and the hinge. The MT4G is faster due to the RAM and slightly faster processor, but not noticeably when both running CM7. The G2 is a better looking phone and seems built better (except for the hinge) as my MT4G has creaky buttons, dust under the lens and just a generally funky collection of textures and material colors. If I wasn't planning on rooting the MT4G, I probably would have kept the G2 to avoid the Sense bloat.

I was originally in love with the G2 but held off because I realized I would never use the hardware keyboard anyway.
Opted for the MT4G for these reasons:
-more ram
-faster base processor speed (overclocking makes this kind of moot though)
-front-facing camera
-software doesn't matter because I run CyanogenMod on everything anyway
I do really love the look and feel of the G2 but after playing with it I realized I'm more comfortable on a touch screen keyboard. Now that I have CM7 on my phone I'm absolutely in love with it. The only thing I wish it had is the lighted ring around the trackpad like the G2.
I still think the G2 is a very sexy piece of hardware.

Not another Vibrant or G2? thread...

I've been using a g1 for the longest time, and have gone through tons of roms. It's finally time to move on though... the g1's community has largely ditched it's outdated hardware.
I'm looking at the vibrant and the G2 for tmobile, and the hardware seems to be roughly equal, with the g2 having a slight advantage in terms of muscle... hard keyboards are nice but I'm sure I can adjust.
I'm wondering how active the mod community is for the vibrant. I'm assuming no sense roms... I like sense but it's no big deal, I hear MIUI is nice. How stable/up-to-date are the better roms for the vibrant?
How do you vibrant owners like your phones? Do you wish you had anything from the G2?

The vibrant is mostly dead. There are lots of stable 2.2 roms and tons of non stable 2.3 roms. We will never get official 2.3 ever. Go with the g2. Just keep in mind its a lot harder to root than the vibrant

This is the kind of answer I was looking for, thanks. Looks like I'm going with the g2, unless somebody has a terribly compelling reason not to.

I aslo used a G1 for a long time:
I did have a G2 for a few months, and I'm pretty happy I switched to the Vibrant.
You just can't beat the Vibrant's screen, it's not even comparable to the G2's screen. Like night and day. It's also slightly bigger, which is good, because I have big hands.
The G2 is thick and heavy, if you drop it, it feels as if it would shatter into a million pieces. The Vibrant is light, and impressively thin.
Support from HTC on the G2 > Than the Vibrant's support from Samsung.
The Vibrant community has done a good job with putting Gingerbread on it, considering we don't have a source. I have a mostly bug free version of MIUI running on mine. My wife and I both use it as a daily driver.

I also prefer the Vibrant. In fact I prefer it so much we have 3 at our house. Latest one arriving tomorrow.
Development is mostly dead because CM7 is now bug-free and stable (except for mediocre battery-only about 15 hours on charge when you use the phone)
Phone itself is great. Screen and physical dimensions and weight are obviously big plusses and with CM7, it competes with dual cores just fine in speed. There's no slowdowns, lag, or anything like that. Tbh, I truly think it's the best single core phone at the moment. Dual cores are obviously better but also more expensive. You can pick up a Vibrant in good condition for $215 shipped.
G2 is also obviously another good choice. Personal preference there. Just know both phones are ridiculously fast on 2.3 and both can be overclocked a lot. Vibrant can push a good 1.4-1.5Ghz and G2 can be overclocked up to 1.6? I'm not all that familiar there.

Thanks for your input folks. I am aware that the screen on the vibrant is probably it's biggest selling point. Both phones are solid across the board hardware wise. The most important factor to me is the availability of solid roms for daily use, and right now it looks like the g2 is better supported by HTC.

If your rooting stable ROM's aren't a problem, but if your not then your screwed!
