Ability to send vCards in Cyanogenmod 11 - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

CM needs to create the ability to send and receive vCards via SMS. This is very important especially when you use your phone alot for business purposes. If I want to import a contact into my Outlook I can't. I have to manually type it in. Can't CM install this feature?

Click to collapse
If you install Google Hangouts and use that as your SMS app, you can do it. In People, select a contact, then go to the menu and choose Share > Hangouts. Choose a 'hangout' (basically an existing chat thread), or tap 'new message' to enter a phone number or select a recipient. The contact details will then appear as a .vcf attachment.
You can send the .vcf by other means - by email, by Bluetooth, to your Dropbox, etc - using the same Share command.

Send as vCard goes to MMS instead of Outlook E-mail

Is there a way to pass the vCard created when you clickhold a contact and select "Send as vCard" to the Outlook E-mail client as opposed to the MMS client?
It is unusual that after all this time, still Microsoft has not fixed this problem. Although this reply is 9 months late, there is a temporary workaround for this.
When you select a contact and choose "Send as vcard", the actual vcard file is created in the \Temp folder on main storage. You can cancel out of the MMS message at this point, and attach the file to a regular e-mail. The easiest way to do this is either:
1) Copy the vcard from \Temp to \My Documents, and then use the "Menu-->Insert-->File" function inside the e-mail message to attach it or
2) Use the built-in File Explorer and navigate to the \Temp folder. Hold the stylus on the vcard and choose "Send" and then pick the e-mail account you wish to use to send the vcard with

Find O2 SMS Plus in this forum. This application allows to send vcards through standard SMS service.

Sending Contacts via Bluetooth?

I know it is possible to send contacts via Bluetooth (beam), but is it possible to batch send contacts, as it was in WM2003?
Or is there anything that will let me do this?
TIA
Anyone?
It should be possible. Run the attached cab file on your device and soft reset. In the tap-and-hold menu in your contacts you should see the option to select all contacts. Than tap-and-hold again and select send contact. it should now start looking for devices and send all contacts to another phone. unfortunately, this only allows you to send all contacts, not a selection of your contacts.
edit:, it only seems to work once, after that you have to soft reset in order to make it work again. Not that big a problem, since you probably won't have to send them many times a day, but still annoying!
Did not test this but have you tried sending via ir while Bleuetooth is on. In filemanger this works.
He knows how to send one contact, but wants to send multiple contacts in one go. This cannot be done with the standard contacts app and not with the file explorer, since you cannot select contacts there.
Thanks for the file, I will have a go and see if it works.

saving a contact to phone from an SMS

morning peoples (or afternoon depending on your worldly location)
I received a text message from my mates new number. The number isn't in my contacts so I want to create one. I click on the number and it says
"this number isn't in your contacts etc etc would you like to create a new one"
so I click yes, then the list of contact appear. I click new contact, and it asks me for outlook contact or sim contact.
I don't use outlook to sync my contacts, and SIM contact doesn't give me all the information (SIM is just a name and number).
so how do I select to save the number to my phone, where I can add all the other relevant information (ringtone, phone number type etc etc)?
thanks
You should save as an Outlook contact, as Pocket Outlook is the default adress register on Windows Mobile devices.
It doesn't matter if you use Outlook on your PC or not...
perhaps but the options presented to me are the same...well..almost...firname last name number....why doesn't it give me the option to supply any other details? ?I have to save it, then go back into it to add any other information.
just annoying is all
why don't u just go to contacts, click on the profile u want to update and when they're details come up, click on menu > edit.
this should take you to a full list of details
because I'm talking about adding a new contact, not updating an existing one

help with exchange contacts and personal email

Hello- new to android, coming from a hd2
here is my set up:
I have a .mac account for my personal account.
I have gmail only for google voice.
I also am linked to facebook.
I use the phone mostly for work with ms exchange. I dont like the interface that samsung/2.1 offers so I am testing touchdown. So far so good.
issues/questions
I have both Touchdown and the android exchange set up so I can compare the differences. Not sure if this is recommended or not? also not sure if I should disable one or not??
1) contacts- when I am using dialer to call someone it - goes to the work fax # as default not the cell or even office #. How do I change the order for all contacts at once? I can do it individually but have 400 contacts. It doesnt give me an option to see all the #'s to chose from like in windows. Does this have something to do with the way it synced with ms exchange server's contacts?
Very annoying! any work arounds? any better way to quickly call or return a call? I typically use dialer and start dialing the persons name.
2) personal email- when I set up my .mac account it made a folder called personal email on my homescreen (great!) i mistakenly dragged it to the trash. Now when I add the email program to the Homescreen, when I open it gives mes 2 options. I want to get back my own personal email folder- any options?
3) I only use gmail to read my voicemails using google voice. Is there a way I can sync my ms exchange contacts (phone contacts) to the gmail cloud so I have them in multiple places?
Thanks in advance!
M
3. Export your contacts from Outlook (into CSV) and import them into GMAIL (Google has instructions on how to do it)

[Q] vCards in Cyanogenmod

Where is the ability to be able to send and receive vCards in Cyanogenmod? I love this ROM but with stock you can do this. I need to be able to do that so I can import them into my contacts. Someone texted me a vCard today and I could not even see it.
I found this post helpful.

Not at all because it does not send vCards. This is just like copy and pasting. I need to be able to send an receive vCards so I can import them into my Outlook at work.
