saving a contact to phone from an SMS - Touch HD General

morning peoples (or afternoon depending on your worldly location)
I received a text message from my mates new number. The number isn't in my contacts so I want to create one. I click on the number and it says
"this number isn't in your contacts etc etc would you like to create a new one"
so I click yes, then the list of contact appear. I click new contact, and it asks me for outlook contact or sim contact.
I don't use outlook to sync my contacts, and SIM contact doesn't give me all the information (SIM is just a name and number).
so how do I select to save the number to my phone, where I can add all the other relevant information (ringtone, phone number type etc etc)?
thanks

You should save as an Outlook contact, as Pocket Outlook is the default adress register on Windows Mobile devices.
It doesn't matter if you use Outlook on your PC or not...

perhaps but the options presented to me are the same...well..almost...firname last name number....why doesn't it give me the option to supply any other details? ?I have to save it, then go back into it to add any other information.
just annoying is all

why don't u just go to contacts, click on the profile u want to update and when they're details come up, click on menu > edit.
this should take you to a full list of details

because I'm talking about adding a new contact, not updating an existing one

How to look up/dial entries from SIM or convert to Contacts?

I just received my shiny new XDA II and I was wondering is there an easy way to dial phonebook entries which are stored on my SIM card?
I notice when you press the Green button to start the phone application there is a button at the bottom to go to the Contacts list (sync'd from Outlook).
I have a hundred or more phone book entries on my SIM card but I notice that when I hit the call button it gives me the option of choosing people out of my synchronised Outlook Contacts list but to call people from the SIM card I have to bring up the SIM Manager and click and hold and select call from an entry which seems cumbersome. Is there a nice easy way to have a combined list of Outlook Contacts + SIM Phone Book entries with a simple click to call mechanism?
I also notice for received calls and SMS's the Caller ID thingy doesn't look at any of the phonebook entries on the SIM card to translate numbers into names - can this be fixed as well?
OR alternatively if the only solution is to have everything in Outlook Contacts then is there a nice easy tool (preferably freeware) which takes all my existing SIM phonebook entries and converts them into Outlook Contact entries?
Thanks,
Rodney...
Ok: when you are in "SIM Manager" select "Tools" and "Select all".
Tap and hold anywere in the window and select "Save to Conctacts" in the pop up that will appear.
I hope this can help you!
Yep - I found that a few hours after making this post - but thanks for that anyway...
So is the general consensus that we shouldn't use the SIM based phonebook at all but rather have all entries in the Outlook Contacts list?
Copying SIM entries to Outlook
I've use the SIM toolkit to 'add' my SIM contacts into my XDA contacts, but when sync'ing with my PC, the new contacts claim to xfer over, but don't appear in my PC's address book. ActiveSync is set to xfer contacts.
Any ideas what might be wrong, or are there tools that will upload the SIM data to Outlook in an easy manner. I appreciate that SIM contact info is limited by the SIM.
Thanks, Hamish.

Can't delete contacts?

Hmm, so I just tried to delete a contact - (it was actually a contact I added via the barcode scanner - [email protected] in this forum);
Long pressed the contact, chose 'delete contact', answered yes to the question... and hmm... the contact is still there...
Is that a known bug?
Ok, just FYI - yes, there is a bug in the contacts - if your contact doesn't have a first/last name, but has an email - the contact will be named after his email in the contacts list;
When a contact is named after his email, you cannot delete it at all (you'll be able to try, but it just wont be deleted, no matter where you try it from).
To fix that, just give a name, any name, to that contact, and delete it.
I've had strange things like this happen where I delete a person's secondary email or address, and it comes right back.
Same goes for changing a "type" such as Phone (home/work/mobile/other/custom). It doesn't seem to stick and reverts back to the original title.
I think you need to delete the contact from your sim card first, then log on to google and erase it from there, then let the phone sync and goodbye contact.
bwahaahahhaahahahahahawhahahahaa
You could try deleteing it from Google Contacts instead?

Messed up contact list using google sync... any advice?

Hi,
Summary: I used Google sync without thinking, ending up with a mixture of e-mail contacts and phone contacts on my phone and on gmail. Could use some help separating them again.
--
I have synchronised my X10 contact list with the Sony Ericsson sync service (website).
I also have a gmail account. Some days ago I added my computer's e-mail address book to that account.
Yesterday I decided to sync my phone with gmail (by selecting the following on the phone: settings - data sync - google sync). I simply wanted to upload my phone's contact list to gmail. I didn't consider that ALL my e-mail contacts would be added to the phone. I don't need those there...
So, any advice on how to get rid of all the e-mail contacts that google added to my phone?
At the moment, my complete contact list (the one I would like to maintain) exists at SE sync service.
In gmail's contact list, I can select all the e-mail contacts, and probably delete them. However, gmail's list only contains 60% of the contacts that were originally on my phone (of course I would like to keep 100%).
I am thinking about deleting all contacts from gmail and from the phone, and downloading them from SE sync service. Does that work they way I'm hoping? I'm a bit worried about losing my phone contacts from SE sync service.
Any advice?
Also, is there a way to set up gmail contact list so that the phone's contacts stay in one folder, while e-mail contacts stay in another folder?
(I do have some "phone contacts" with e-mail addresses, some "e-mail contacts" with phone numbers, etc, which might complicate things.)

If you go to Phonebook>Menu (left button)>Display group (or something similar)>Contacts with phonenumber , then all contacts without a nummer will be hidden.

Thanks for the tip... However, I do have some "phone contacts" with e-mail addresses, some "e-mail contacts" with phone numbers. I don't need all those contacts twice.

Merging these contacts on gmail.com>contacts using your computer would be the easiest and fastest thing to do I guess.
Or make a new group in the gmail contacts and transfer all your phonecontacts to that group, then let the x10 only show the contacts in the new group.

[Q] problems with contacts

I cant seem to save a new contact, no matter which way i save it either by adding contacts from a new phone call or entering a new contact, when I first save it, all the previous call numbers from that contact change to the contacts name then within a few minutes it reverts back again and if i search for the new contact it has disappeared.
any help would be appreciated.
Im using the generic contact address book
Did you have the right sync groups selected? when creating a contact you can assign the contact to group. If this group is not synced this will not shown as a new contact on your phone. When the contact is not assigned to group you must select "sync all contacts". this will include also your mail-contacts from google.

Google Contact's Default Number for MMS

All of my contacts are synced with Google and I created a group on my S5 for MMS messages. When I go to send an MMS message to the group, only three of the members have mobile numbers associated with them and all other recipients have e-mail addresses associated with them. I have verified that all of the contacts have mobile numbers associated with them and Google is syncing them correctly.
Does anybody have a fix for this? I'm sure that I can go to each contact and mark the cell phone number as the primary number, but that seems to only be a temporary fix. I'm curious how this can be fixed, and possibly at the Google level. I have tried to search for an answer but haven't found much.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

how have you verified that? have you tried logging into gmail and checking the contacts/group online?

I logged into my Google Contacts and confirmed that they all have mobile numbers associated with them. I also exported the contacts to a CSV to look into them more and I can't see any differences between the contacts that automatically have their mobile numbers selected and those where their e-mail address is automatically selected.
Any thoughts?

Perhaps the contact(s) got corrupted, anyway? I would try adding a new contact to see if that makes any changes.
I have the same issue. 2 things to try. Remove contact from gmail via the pc. Then add them to gmail via your phone. Or, in your contacts there is an option to select the mobile number add the default contact option. Its called "mark as default" . That seems to do the trick.
