Hello folks,
I'm new to this forum, I found this place very useful and full of people who are willing to help. Today my brand news LG G2 after second charge is draining pretty fast... after first charge it was OK and at the and of the day i still had 40% on heavy use. So i checked the battery stats and found out that some kind of process: com.android.browser:sandboxed_process4 is eating the most of my battery. I can't find this process anywhere and in the internet there are no information about it.
Please see pictures attached.
Really hope you will help me guys.

Model: D802
Android: 4.4.2
D80220f-EUR-XX
Update: So i fully charged the phone, cleared the chache and data of Internet Browser, restarted the phone and now this problem is gone. I do not see this process anymore (it was for first minutes of 1% of total drain and now it has disapeared).
But i really almost haven't used any browser at all these few days, what could caused this problem ? Maybe you have any guesses to avoid this problem in the future ?
@space15 well its from the browser application and the sandboxed process is I believe like if you have tabs open in your browser then sandbox process 1,2 Etc.
Sorry for late response, I forgot to post my reply :/ Good that your fixed your problem on your own!

Hehe, thanx !
But i do not think that problem is solved. It should appear again. But strange, I do not believe that Kitkat update can have such a issue with stock browser. And i do not remind that i used the browser especially with several tabs. This process seems to appeare out of nowhere.
All i did yesterday is opened hidden menu and made some testing, thats all... maybe there i did somethig wrong...

Maybe there was still some incognito or something like that running in the background or other saved tabs I am not sure about that sandboxed process but I have read about it some time ago. The only thing I can surely say is that its from the Stock browser and that there is more sandboxed processes like sandboxed process1,2,3,4 Etc so i am thinking its the Tabs but i aint sure
don't use chrome, sux battery as you have found out

Hi ,
Download "advance task manager lite" off the Market. This is a very very helpful app which can close all your programs running and very simple to use. And it is Free.
If you need anymore help feel free to post back

There is no such app in my market. Can anyone share a free version? Thanks

It's a free version. The actual name is "Advanced Task Manager Lite" so do a search on "Advanced".
I did do a search and can't find it. Anyone else managed to find it under Rogers in Canada?
I can easy find it. I use it every day, but i find it a bit strange that you cant close apps in any other way! And alot of programs doesnt have a "Quit/Exit" function.
Does anyone have any explanation to why its not possible to close programs without download extra programs?
you know,
I think i heard Something about when you leave the app , it does actually sort of close.
It saves the state you left it in (freezes) and unfreezes when you enter it again. So really the App is not running or using any comsumption at all until you are in the app.

This is true.
It is because android is awesome at app management. There is no real need for closing apps. It leaves apps kinda open (saves their state in ram) but not running. That`s why most apps open so fast. And even though more ram is "in use" it doesn`t cost you battery life.
Thanks for confirming ,
What a fantatic way , The OS is fantastic and I can guarantee that Android has alot of potential and Can only get better and come up with more technological breaking idea's!!

Anyway. I love Android more and more. But i was shocked when i found out that you cant send or receive files via bluetooth. I hope this is their number 1. priority in the next released. I mean, comon .. phones have been able to do this for 10 years now!

i did not find it either. i m using rogers too
but you can download Close Everything at Market for free.
i think those apps are similar. the only difference is you have to close EVERYTHING instead of choosing an app to end it.
anyway, the system is not getting slower even i open lots apps.
maybe, the "freeze" thing is true
yesterday I had my phone fully charged before i got to sleep, in the morning 8 hours later the battery was almost empty. GPS and WIFI was disabeld, so I think all the programs in the "background" ( a lot ) killed the battery.
Or what do you think killed the batt?

if you disable background data usage in data sync that will save batt life and lower data usage too.

i do not know how that app works ~oops~

not all programs stop running. some are designed to run in the background
the only real way to check what is running is to use a task manager
I paid $0.99 for advanced task manager. Its a good, but basic app. And hardly breaks the bank at that price!
The other issue I get is "go slows" sometimes on the phone. It doesn't seem to crash, just response times go into the seconds. I switch off and on to soft reset and its fine.

Why should I disable data usage? If i have an app that use data, then I only need to close the app. Please correct me if I´m wrong.
Hi Everyone,
I have big problem which is i cannot close apps. When im done with app i cant close them. I push back button, but it just send app to background. So it is still working and draining battery all the time.
I have same problem with every app. I have Advanced Task Killer Pro but i dont want to use it all the time. It is ridiculous.
And some apps are restart after i close them with Advanced TK Pro. Like Letsgolf,postcard.. I dont want those. I will uninstall them if i can..
I need to close apps when im done with app and uninstall some other apps. Is there any solution for that ? Because it is really annoying and big problem. Simply draining battery..
Thank you for reading.
Best regards.
Are you new to android? You dont have to close every app like lets say symbian or windows mobile, only worry about closing certain games or apps that keep using data frequently, read up on android if this is your first device, anyway If you feel uncomftorble use task killer to stop all or whatever apps you want, not everything will close though, its just the way android works, youre fine.
Where is the problem with the Arc...?
You're referring to the normal behavior of the Android OS. This is normal. If you're not getting over 40 hours of battery life with regular use, you may have downloaded some strange applications.

Haha. Just trying to set the record straight, tis all.
I thought it was an April fools joke that was a little late
So where is the "BIG" problem with the ARC? What a lame and misleading title! Go read up on Android OS and how it behaves first before freaking out!
It's not about ARC i know that. But i just want to tell my phone is ARC,whatever. I used Linux and i know how it works. But when it comes to phone. Things change. Gallery,Camera,Google Maps,Browser.. When you start apps like that. If you cant close them they are draining battery in background also using RAM for nothing. And it is something that i cant deny.
And think about you didnt restart your phone like 2-3 days. And apps you start never close and working in background. It is a PROBLEM need to solution. Thats not nothing.
Thanks for comments.

Or if closing the thread is the solution, please direct it to a thread where answers can be found.
I'm new to Android and interested to know more about this kind of behavior too.
so do you mean that app will close after a while ...?
can somebody tell me more about it ..?
If you are using MODs like MIUI or CM. you can close apps with Push Back button a bit. They resolve that problem.
But in Original Android 2.3.2. you cant close apps except Apps which have Exit button itself. It is simply absurd, i think anyway.
I get it. This is how linux work. But we are using it in Smartphone. Which means we have Battery. If i cant close big apps like Google Maps etc. its gonna keep draining battery background.

Do you really think the developers of the android OS didnt think of this?
Theyre not draining battery in the background. Theyre idle. Theyre not doing anything. At all. Think of it like a solid state mp3 player, you used to see people posting on forums panicking that there isnt a stop button, just a pause button, like pausing it will wear out the mp3 file or something. They just dont understand that technology has moved on. The same thing has happened here: android isnt windows (although most windows apps dont eat any power when theyre minimised either, theyre idle, waiting for user input).
Also: they arent wasting memory. If the memory is needed for soemthing else, the android OS frees it up by closing (i.e. unloading) the idle app, but only when it's needed. No point in freeing it up too early, because you may wish to switch back to (i.e. unpausing) the app. This is more efficient.
There are *some* apps (e.g. music player, gps location tracker app) which will continue to run in the background, and yes this will drain battery, but these apps will have the ability to start/stop their services (e.g. pause music, stop tracking gps), and/or exit completely. If there is an app somewhere which continuously runs and doesnt give you a way to pause/exit then it's a very badly programmed app and you should uninstall it, but i dont know what those apps may be, because i cant think of one.
In summary, stop complaining about something like it's the end of the world if you dont have a clue what youre talking about.
Oh finally.
A man who knows what he is talking about. Thanks god.
And thank you. I really learned something from your post.
İ tried and see many combination about it. It is not a big problem for me i just want to learn why it is like that. And i thought it is drain battery..
Okay some apps like Lets Golf or post card doesnt using battery even if they seems like running. But what about Internet Browser ? I cant even close it with one click. I use back button for close. And when i push it it go back first. Simply, i need to come back first page i loaded for close browser. Even i get there and push back. It is still running ( yes running, i can see it in battery options and using battery %2-5). And google maps is same thing. Even i push back and disappear them they keep running and using battery (%3-6 for it ). What can i do for it ?
I'm not complaining about it that much. I really like my telephone and android. I just want to learn something and if this is a problem i want to resolve it thats all.
Anyway, thank you again for your useful answer.
Best regards.
well i think its not a real problem

Ya, kinda' laggy.
The gallery is crap.
Use this:

Gallery is fine.
The reason it takes ages to load FOR YOU is because you are using task killers that unload it from memory.
Each time you load it up, it has to fully load again, rather than instantaneously popping up.

I have to agree here. I read the "task killers are bad" article and initially dismissed it as "no way" but since getting my Play I have not cleared all my tasks and it definitely runs perfectly fine and seemingly faster than my other Android devices that I religiously killed tasks on.
That said I still run ATK for when I actually have to kill a task, ex:a program is stuck and won't even FC, or my email acts up occasionally and won't retrieve. I find killing the email app and then opening it again cures it.

I've found if I don't force close Gallery, its process will become a huge battery drain and my Play won't last a full day. That said, I do prefer it over Quick Pic, as it does run faster (for me).

Nope. Open processes do not drain the battery.
When you are not using them, the Android o/s freezes the process which eliminates processing power and battery power.
The only time an open process will drain your battery is if you are using a custom rom that doesnt support process freezing.

Problem is, when you go to battery usage when this problem occurs, Gallery does appear as taking up anywhere from 25-35% of the battery life.
Only a phone restart or force close of the app fixes the issue.
It doesn't happen too often anymore.

I have had my phone on this charge for 11h 28m and 46 seconds. My battery level is at 51%.
I have used the gallery today to show my work friends a couple of photos and a video. (about 30 seconds worth).
Gallery battery usage reports at 0.0%.
Something is wrong with your set up. The gallery works fine on my phone and doesnt drain the battery at all.
I suggest you are either using a custom rom that doesn process freeze the gallery, or you have an app killer that is killing the gallery.
I cant think of anything else it could be.
Hope you fix it anyway. GL
My phone takes a bit to load pictures too. I find that the droid in general needs a better way of shutting down unused programs. Too often do i need to restart my phone to get it working at top notch again.

My battery sucks lately. It may be since the last xloud update.
I can't get through a day just on standby. If I make a call or two it is dead before I get off work.
I use the task killer all the time and almost never use the gallery and don't use facebook. I do you Go launcher but it wasn't bad before the update.
Don't use the task killer. Install some scripts and custom Init. d scripts. Best way to conserve battery is to install juice defender ultimate

Last update had a bug which drains the battery.
There is a fix thread on the forums somewhere that explains why it is bugged.
You need to go to settings, wireless and networks, mobile networks, network operators, then select manual instead of automatic.
The bug is basically that when you leave it on automatic, it will constantaly scan for radio signals whether you have a signal or not.
Took me a while to find out what it was, then someone else found a proper fix for it.
Can you tell me which forun and the thread title with those bugs?
Thanks for the Tip.

Sometimes I'll be in the browser on a website and the browser will randomly shut down and take me to my homepage. No message pops up saying something went wrong though. I just got my tablet yesterday and already this has happened 7-10 times. Does this happen to other people or am I the only one? Is there anything I can do to fix it?
I have the A501, but my browser has done the same thing a few times. It only seemed to happen when i had a really bad connection though. Don't know if that had any factor in it. Usually its fine though
same here
I think its coding on the website.this happened far less with the new dolphin browser but I like stock browser better.
Giggles are for blonde chics back off there mine
No guarantee that this will work for you, but you could give it a shot.
It very well could be coding on the page as was suggested earlier. Especially if it always happens on a particular site.
For your applications that are force closing or are acting buggy, try this procedure to see if it may correct the behaviors:
Go to Settings >> Applications >> Manage applications >> All tab, select the application that is giving you problems, and press the Force stop button if the application is still running and then to wipe the data press the Clear data and Clear cache buttons as well.
NOTE: THIS WILL RESET THE APPLICATION AND ERASE ANY APPLICATION STORED DATA UNLESS ITS SAVED TO MEMORY.
If this does not correct the issues, then try uninstalling and then reinstall the application.

It seems that a good question here would also be, "What browsers are you all using? And have they all shown the same behavior?"
I have the default Chrome, then I also have Firefox and Dolphin. I know there are others as well.
my tab had this issue as well. i notice that when adblocker is running it doesnt happen near as often. i suspect pop up ads are responsible. your experience with failblog makes me more sure.
Hmmm..... I don't ever have that problem with the Dolphin HD browser.
This happens a least once a day for me. But it happens randomly, on any page. Even if i just try and open the browser to the home page it'll occasionally close on its own.

Hi everyone,
this problem is following me in every rom I try!
CM, Stock, 5.1.1, 5.0.1, it does'nt matter, in every rom I face this problem....
you see, music is playing in background and some other apps like Hotspot shield are running in background at the same time... as soon as i open firefox, music player completely shuts off and so does hotspot shield...
in every rom I face this problem so now I'm starting to think maybe its a hardware issue... could it be a hardware issue?
anyone with the same issue?
I have Flyme installed on my phone and its a good rom and I dont want to change it, even if I change it im sure the problem with come to me again in other roms, so help me fix this
Android closes apps when it is low on memory (RAM).
I don't think its related to that, I have plenty of ram when that happens, besides, closing all background apps at once?
and why does this always happen when I open a web browser?

Maybe one of your apps causes the issues. After all, you changed several ROMs (clean wiped I assume) and the only constant would be the user apps you always install/restore after a flash.
