Background apps closing by themselves - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
this problem is following me in every rom I try!
CM, Stock, 5.1.1, 5.0.1, it does'nt matter, in every rom I face this problem....
you see, music is playing in background and some other apps like Hotspot shield are running in background at the same time... as soon as i open firefox, music player completely shuts off and so does hotspot shield...
in every rom I face this problem so now I'm starting to think maybe its a hardware issue... could it be a hardware issue?
anyone with the same issue?
I have Flyme installed on my phone and its a good rom and I dont want to change it, even if I change it im sure the problem with come to me again in other roms, so help me fix this

Android closes apps when it is low on memory (RAM).

I don't think its related to that, I have plenty of ram when that happens, besides, closing all background apps at once?
and why does this always happen when I open a web browser?

I just told you in my previous reply.
Maybe that web browser uses all the memory.
Or does it happen with every web browser?

I don't have alot of apps running in background, 2GB of RAM and still its not enough for a web browser and a music player beside 5 or 6 other apps that each of 'em need 60 to 70mb of RAM? That's strange
I tried 3 or 4 different web browsers, Chrome, Stock web browser, Firefox, and some other browsers... all the same
This guy also has the same problem:
HTML:

Maybe one of your apps causes the issues. After all, you changed several ROMs (clean wiped I assume) and the only constant would be the user apps you always install/restore after a flash.

Yes, always clean and wiped install.
Well, I don't use any battery monitoring or task managing app, but good point, let me check my apps again.

Nope, checked again, no suspicious app... non that I think have something to do with this problem

Go one by one and install and uninstall apps, while repeatedly trying to run the ones you stated in your first post. If there is an app causing that problem, just try doing some old fashioned process of elimination.

Will do, and if I found out that an app is causing the problem I would not just gonna go the fashioned way of elimination! I'm Gonna leave some mean mean comments for it's developer too!

Attention !!! Htc g1 firmwaree

i have been using the htc g1 for several months now and have noticed that its performance is not as good as it used 2 be. by this i mean the interface is very slow now and in performing small tasks it tends to lag frequently. my phone is updated to cupcake 1.5. i am wondering if any if you can suggest ways to improve the functionality of my phone for example, by installing a different firmware. i have tried deleting several of my apps from the market but that only improved the situation slightly. thanks

Do you have root? if so,then just upgrade to Cyanogen's latest build his are much faster then the stock firmware. Also, rather then randomly deleting apps, have you tried any of the task managers? There are apps that run constantly in the background, enough of them at once will slow your phone down big time. Do you have a lot of widgets, apps or folders on your home screen? Too many and it bogs down your home screen.
yes i do have a task manager and i only seems to help slight. i do have apps on my home screen but not so much only about 3 pages worth and i think the phone should be able to handle that. my phone is not rooted. how do i get the firmware u are talking about. more info would be great.
A fresh wipe would make it VERY fast. Uninstalling apps and such from stock firmware doesn't really help... well, it didnt atleast for me

Goto each one on the list and it will have a button that says Clear Cache and Clear Data. Tap both of those and after doing them all you should be fine. It might take awhile to do them all but it will fix your problem.

GB debloating: removing "blur_yahoo.apk" breaks contacts.

I just spent some time trying to figure out what had broken my contacts functionality and this was it. Again, removing "blur_yahoo.apk" and the associated .odex file will break the contacts app. After removal, clicking on a contact in the dialer/contact app will just shut the app down. I've no idea why, since the yahoo app is for yahoo mail.

F**k...I just noticed that too
I noticed that freezing some of the messaging/social services also seems to force close the built-in message app too. If you use something like ChompSMS then it isn't a big deal b/c that still works.

You should probably do some more research before you start messing with that b/c it can brick the OS requiring a full install of the ROM. In this case, if you don't do a restore before removing stuff you'll be restoring the SBF file a lot.
But to answer your question though...the app you want is Titanium Backup Pro (aka the pay version b/c of the "Freeze" option.)

Well since the GB build for the DX just came out, I haven't been able to find a definitive thread anywhere (including on MyDroidWorld) listing what is save to remove or at least freeze. As of right now I think it's safe to say that its going to be a trial and error situation.
There are threads somewhere (droidforums?) about which of the 2.1 and 2.2 apps are safe to remove. While there are some new apps, those that were safe before are still safe. Of the new apps, the blur_yahoo is the only one that's given me trouble. Be warned, though, that while you can remove Backup Assistant and Blur Home, if you do a factory reset from within Android (rather than from clockworkmod), your initial install will break and you'll need to sbf if you can't get back into clockwork.
Also, bluremailengine is needed for blurcalendar to work properly. I remove bluremail, all the third party crap, all the social crap, swipe, and various other things I don't use like universal inbox, widgets, etc. Really, you just need to play with it.

Yea I know about those threads (I have one open right now actually) but since this is a whole new version of Blur & version of Android w/ a lot of changes & new options...who knows what Motorola changed or buried deeper into the system.
Thanks for being the guinea pig though I've never had a reason to use factory reset after a ROM is installed so removing BA & Blur Home isn't a big deal.
One question...have you removed the Messaging & Text Messaging apps at all? I still can't figure out what it was that caused the Text Messaging app to quit on me as soon as it was opened. Not that it's a big deal...b/c ChompSMS worked fine for me
Does anyone else notice a SEVERE amount of lag immediately after you reboot the phone? Lasts about 3-4 minutes every time I reboot then goes away. Affects everything from changing home screens, to opening apps, even turning the ringer volume up and down lags...

That's always been a problem with MotoBlur (and even HTC Sense)...it's all the services that load in the background all at once (even after freezing or removing some services.)

I removed all the messaging crap except the default messaging app (conversations.apk). I use Google Voice so I don't use the default app, but I sent myself a message using it and it worked just fine.
Note: you can do a data wipe/factory reset from within clockwork and you'll be fine.
If someone can produce a list of everything in /system/app (well, just the .apks would do), I can mark the ones I've successfully removed without problems.
Ditto to that...I'd be happy to contribute what I've frozen.

Mine takes about 10-15 seconds from the appearance of the homescreen until it's at full speed. Of course, I've overclocked to 1.2 GHz, debloated, zipaligned, implemented drod's rubix tweaks, and used autostarts to kill unnecessary apps from loading at boot.

Hmm. 10-15 seconds seems a tad excessive then. I'm still running stock speed, LPP 0.8.4.1, debloated most major apps and also used Autostarts to kill some apps at boot (as well as in the Widgets menu)...and while I see a slight lag it's not 10-15 seconds.

You're right. I just timed it. About 38 seconds from red M to full appearance of desktop (I've got the boot animation disabled) and about 25 seconds from full desktop to all widgets loaded and ready to go. I underestimated by 40-60%! I'm using the blur launcher, btw.
Something must be wrong with mine then...because mine lasts a good 3 to 4 minutes...and that seems very long for services to be starting...

browser crashes randomly

Sometimes I'll be in the browser on a website and the browser will randomly shut down and take me to my homepage. No message pops up saying something went wrong though. I just got my tablet yesterday and already this has happened 7-10 times. Does this happen to other people or am I the only one? Is there anything I can do to fix it?
I have the A501, but my browser has done the same thing a few times. It only seemed to happen when i had a really bad connection though. Don't know if that had any factor in it. Usually its fine though
same here
I think its coding on the website.this happened far less with the new dolphin browser but I like stock browser better.
Giggles are for blonde chics back off there mine
No guarantee that this will work for you, but you could give it a shot.
It very well could be coding on the page as was suggested earlier. Especially if it always happens on a particular site.
For your applications that are force closing or are acting buggy, try this procedure to see if it may correct the behaviors:
Go to Settings >> Applications >> Manage applications >> All tab, select the application that is giving you problems, and press the Force stop button if the application is still running and then to wipe the data press the Clear data and Clear cache buttons as well.
NOTE: THIS WILL RESET THE APPLICATION AND ERASE ANY APPLICATION STORED DATA UNLESS ITS SAVED TO MEMORY.
If this does not correct the issues, then try uninstalling and then reinstall the application.

It happens to me from time to time, usually when I'm looking around on failblog for some reason. I just go to my history so I can easily go back to the last page I was looking at.
Stock 3.1, latest update.
Its an old and known problem. Unfortunatly 3.1 didn't solve it. Switching off Java does but thats not a satisfieing solution.
Browser keeps shutting down
I'm having the same issue right now and can't seem to use the browser for more than 2 mins its really getting on my nerve. How can I view video when the JavaScript is turned off? For once, why can't this device not have faults regarding basic functions?

It seems that a good question here would also be, "What browsers are you all using? And have they all shown the same behavior?"
I have the default Chrome, then I also have Firefox and Dolphin. I know there are others as well.
my tab had this issue as well. i notice that when adblocker is running it doesnt happen near as often. i suspect pop up ads are responsible. your experience with failblog makes me more sure.
Hmmm..... I don't ever have that problem with the Dolphin HD browser.
This happens a least once a day for me. But it happens randomly, on any page. Even if i just try and open the browser to the home page it'll occasionally close on its own.

[Q] Strange process eating 35% of battery

Hello folks,
I'm new to this forum, I found this place very useful and full of people who are willing to help. Today my brand news LG G2 after second charge is draining pretty fast... after first charge it was OK and at the and of the day i still had 40% on heavy use. So i checked the battery stats and found out that some kind of process: com.android.browser:sandboxed_process4 is eating the most of my battery. I can't find this process anywhere and in the internet there are no information about it.
Please see pictures attached.
Really hope you will help me guys.

Update: So i fully charged the phone, cleared the chache and data of Internet Browser, restarted the phone and now this problem is gone. I do not see this process anymore (it was for first minutes of 1% of total drain and now it has disapeared).
But i really almost haven't used any browser at all these few days, what could caused this problem ? Maybe you have any guesses to avoid this problem in the future ?
@space15 well its from the browser application and the sandboxed process is I believe like if you have tabs open in your browser then sandbox process 1,2 Etc.

But i do not think that problem is solved. It should appear again. But strange, I do not believe that Kitkat update can have such a issue with stock browser. And i do not remind that i used the browser especially with several tabs. This process seems to appeare out of nowhere.
All i did yesterday is opened hidden menu and made some testing, thats all... maybe there i did somethig wrong...

Maybe there was still some incognito or something like that running in the background or other saved tabs I am not sure about that sandboxed process but I have read about it some time ago. The only thing I can surely say is that its from the Stock browser and that there is more sandboxed processes like sandboxed process1,2,3,4 Etc so i am thinking its the Tabs but i aint sure

2 problems with android N

Hello guys, 2 days ago i finally got the android 7.0 update (three uk) and since then I've spotted some problems with the phone. I have this music player installed its called Musixmatch and one of the features is when your phone start playing music the music player identifies it and puts the lyrics on the screen. So since the update sometimes (mostly when I'm playing videos online or just doing random stuff) lyrics to song "Over The Horizon" by Samsung are popping on my screen ( the song is not actually playing, i can't hear it but the lyrics pops up on the screen which means it was played maybe?) I've attached two screenshoots of this situation.
The other problem is since the update sometimes when i want to watch some videos on youtube after few videos I'm getting this problem saying "there was a problem while playing playback id: (various numbers)" and then i can't play any video online (i haven't tried playing videos from my video library yet) but for example on Facebook when I click on the video it acts like a photo just the thumbnail opens and that's it, can't play it. can't play any video untill i restart the phone then its alright but again after few videos im starting to get this error.
My phone is not rooted and I've never rooted it. Its running on stock rom.
Thanks in advance
Just sounds like MusixMatch needs an update. Not exactly a problem with the phone, but the app.

I agree.
It can take a short while for the developer of an app to push out an update so that it does not clash with the updated firmware. I'd check in the PlsyStore under your Apps.
You may also be able to let the Developer know of the bugs your encountering after the firmware update.
That and I'd try clearing the Apps Cache , System Cache and as a last resort create a fresh backup and Factory Reset.
So today i noticed that its not only Facebook videos nor youtube videos. When its happening i can't even call anyone on Skype or Facebook it just won't let me do it.

Had the same problem when I was on LineageOS, didn't found a solution. It was really annoying so I went back to Touchwiz (superman ROM), and haven't had any problems since then.
I dont know what causes the problem, but perhaps a factory reset will solve it for you. :fingers-crossed:
Okay so I decided to go for the factory reset and it worked for a day or two but today the problem is back. Also I would like to mention that I think today was the first time I've used device maintenance to clean ram and Clean master to turn off apps that eat battery after that the problem came back.

Some people's opinions that such software can cause more harm than good.
Personally I prefer not to use cleaning programmes or battery software either.
The inbuilt options do what I need.

One is it steals your infor and sells it in China.
Second, using it to force stop apps in background causes the phone to active loop and basically use up more battery.
The very presence of Clean Master in the phone is all harm and no good.

Don't use clean master, it's bloat garbage. plus you have that built right into the os. If you MUST use 3rd party once of those, use one that's lighter and less spammy and bloatwarish

I quick looked cm is 16mb, with a whole bunch of bloat and ads and useless features, ahh it's such an awful app. It was bad enough, but then cheetah bought it and it really got bad, same thing happened with the gallery app Quickpic.
Anyway, if it was me, I would absolutely not dl a third party app. The built in stuff does more than a good enough job. But if you must have one, CCleaner 4mb, simple, works, it's light, if there are ads, don't think they are overly intrusive, if there even are any ads. There's a few others that might be OK that are 4mb or under. Look thru the list. But dude, just use the built in option, it does a surprisingly good job.
