hello guys. i do really need help.
im sorry i have some issue to be dealt with regarding to my hendheld which is samsung galaxy s5, i have a broken lcd with it and my samsung galaxy s5 is an korean version (SM-G900K). when i wanted to repair or replace it, i brought it to the samsung service center, however i lived in different country with the phone version, i live in indonesia. so just say that they (SSC) turned down my plea to repair my handheld because the version isn't available in the country and they're mumbling about not availability, different system and so on.
that was just a brief. actual question is, is the lcd version of all galaxy s5 versions are different each area? or all just the same and it's a kind of plug and play system whatsoever, so any version of lcds are aplicated one to another version. because if it possible i would just buy the sparepart of the s5's lcd and applicated by myself or private service center.
i asked dis question because this forum was one of helpful source of phone problem solver.
thank you very much i need a help really, hopefully you guys will.

You're unlikely to get a knowledgeable answer to this. It's too new of a model and few people will have experience yet with repairing models from multiple regions. So unless someone working in a very large service center or Samsung design happens to see this and post a reply..
All I can do is suggest that the situation is likely similar to previous models. For instance on the S3, all of the LCDs per se were identical amongst variants. However the electronics were physically different. The end result being that Exynos models were not compatible with Qualcomm handsets. Amongst Qualcomm variants, they electronics were electrically interchangeable but some e.g. Sprint had different physical layouts and would not physically fit into a different variant case unless they were modified.
There is a general push to standardize parts to make them interchangeable. But I suspect that Samsung's policy to deter black market sales and the large manufacturing runs would lead them to deliberately make some if not all models incompatible. The bottom line though is that we don't know or at least I don't know and am extrapolating from previous models.
You should try to find out if the part numbers are the same between variants. And perhaps call some of the largest part suppliers and see if they have any feedback about part interoperability.
.
Your best chance is if you or someone here maybe downloads the service manual for your model and compare to known models.
thank you very much it has been really helpful so far, im so desperate because i really need it, i hope more answers will be available for me. i'll try to do search more, and if there are more info's that u guys will have please be kind to inform me. thank you very much :good::good::good:

Look here for a replacement S5 screen http://shop.brando.com/Samsung-Gala...Display-with-Touch-Panel_p11093c0308d059.html. 155 USD. I think the S5 G900x screens are all the same.

yes it is, i asked the previous question because, the availbility of the version that marketed in my country is sm-g900h, and mine is g900k. if i buy the lcd in my country im afraid the lcd that will be given to me by the ssc for only g900h or exynos type.
i saw the link before didn't mention about g900h, so it is possible that it was made for qualcomm type.
btw have you bought anything from brando shop?

No but they ship all around the world and the site seems reputable. If you pay with a credit card your purchase/money payed is insured also if something should go wrong.
I can only assume that you did a Google search for LCD parts before posting here (shame on you, if you didn't).
Anyway, the interesting observation of such a search is that various vendors have markedly different interoperbility claims. Some claim that their LCD will fit all U.S. S5 models. Others claim "most carriers", Qualcomm only or various subsets of Exynos and Qualcomm models. If the LCD is the same for all S5 models then that only highlights that the information for some vendors is egregiously wrong. So which vendors to trust?
There is no credible information about this yet. It's equally plausible that the LCD-digitizer assembly could be identical on all variants. Or that Samsung might have made a handful of different versions as they did for past Galaxy Sx models. Caveat emptor.

Hong Kong based online vendor. Not a Hong Kong BBB member. Generally positive reviews.
However, their refund policy explicitly states:
We can only give refund if you receive defective product/s from Brando Workshop and we can only replace defective product/s that are purchased from Brando Workshop and we will not be liable for purchase of wrong product.

Combine that with reports that they aren't always careful with their product specs and draw your own conclusions.
e.g. here:
"Dear friends,
I bought one pair of transceivers on Brando website (they are actually at the 2nd place on NGShopping "Most Popular")
link of the product:
http://www.ngshopping.com/Product-339408-Super-Power-10km-VHF-UHF-Dualband.aspx
UNFORTUNATELY the transceivers I received are NOT dual-band (VHF-UHF) as described on the site, but the Frequency Range is only: UHF: 400-470MHz.
They do not works on VHF!
I am disappointed, very very disappointed. I bought them mainly to use them on VHF because all my friends communicates on VHF frequencies.

ok understood. thank you very much for the help i will search for more infos untill i decided. thank you very much for the help. :good::good::good: :highfive::highfive::highfive:
I realize it's been about a year and a half since this has been discussed, but I'm looking at about the same issue with my Verizon S5. The digitizer is fine but the lcd has apparently shot craps. The screens really are tough like advertised. I rolled over mine with a creeper while under a trailer and didn't so much as scratch the screen. The LCD on the other hand apparently got smashed due to the pressure. So. This is a US Verizon S5. I've looked at replacement LCD/digitizer combos which run at the cheapest I've seen about $127 USD. I only paid like $224 for the phone so not to hip about spending that much to fix it. I've found broken S5s on ebay(I think through US cellular and another company I'd have to look up the name of) for around $65. They have busted digitizers, but have working LCDs. That would work for me if 1. The LCD will work with my phone even though the carrier is different. I assume the model is the same? And 2. I can get the busted digitizer off of the good LCD without trearing up the good LCD, clean the adhesive off, get my working digitizer off my broken LCD without tearing up my digitizer, clean off adhesive and apply new adhesive to bond the two... UV adhesive I assume so that will mean more $$ yay hah Any thoughts on this?
Sorry @RunDickRun......I wouldn't even bother to attempt to remove the lcd from the digitizer.....The lcd is wafer thin and *incredibly* fragile......
You *will* break it if you attempt to separate it....it's pretty much guaranteed....

Yup. I've never had much luck with it before(I also didn't care about breaking the LCD before either). I've scratched that idea. Found a LCD/Digitizer for $90. That'll have to do I guess
Good luck fella.....going to be a hell of a lot easier than recycling parts of the old one.......

Ebay. I've bought multiple screens and parts off Ebay. They are usually fair quality. Read the descriptions thoroughly is my only advice. Make sure you know exactly what you are getting and that you get exactly what you want.

If you are a DIY'r, you can search eBay for "Tmobile HD2 Display". It won't be cheap, but it will be a sight cheaper than a new phone.
If you don't know the difference between a Terminator and a T-2, you should probably check your local yellowpages for a phone repair service. It will be slightly more expensive than doing it yourself.
When you say you are the "second user", I hope this means you got the phone legitimately. If so, this means that you can contact HTC's official repair department. They don't care if your 3rd Uncle's Roommate gave you the phone, so long as the phone's ID number isn't listed as stolen. This is the most expensive option, but it guarantees you the best possible repair.
G'luck!
Less then $10.00, you may have to ask him if he has the exact one.

Thank you for every reply. Dummy phone will work maybe for case, not for LCD/digitizer.
As concern ebay, no one [ebay, or online shops] is selling LCD or digitizers for TMo version, which is incompatible with European version.
So is there any other way how to buy an LCD except contacting HTC directly?
PS sure I have that phone legally ;], I bought from person that didn’t know anything about WiMo phones and was very disappointed [im to and im using wimo for 4years ;] ].

Again and again and again. EU version parts doesn’t fit TMobile HD2 !!
This link is for HD2Eu version – you can tell by that flex cable which it totally different to flex cable on HD2 Tmo version
PS I wouldn’t start new thread if you would be able to buy EU parts and repair TMo version with it.
Hey guys i have been a bit busy in the last 3 to 4 months because of my job therefore wasn't as active on XDA as i always have been but today i have been forced to come on XDA again due to an unfortunate accident which my Galaxy Note 3 faced in the morning.
The glass on my Galaxy Note 3 has cracked..........it fell from a height of just 4 inches and bam! the glass has cracked, the screen is working fine and the touch response is fine as well but the glass has cracked.......i am surprised(infact shocked that it cracked after falling from a height of just 4 inches where as on the other hand my good old HTC One X has fallen from a height of 6+ feet 5 to 6 times and it is still working fine).
So my questions are(especially who are living in Pakistan):
1.What can i do now..........where and how can i replace the glass?
2.What will be the estimated cost of replacing the glass?
3. Has anyone else faced this unfortunate accident?
Your feedback will be highly appreciated and i'll be grateful if you guys reply me ASAP.
Regards.
1- Samsung Service Centre? At least here in my place they replace the glass/LCD/digitizer.
2- As you are from Pakistan I am not going for that conversion route. Here it costs around ₹9000. They won't change the glass only, the digitizer will also be changed.
3- No, and don't have plan to face this type of accident either I have a bumper case however.
You can't really compare a phone's fall incident with another phone's, cause the falls itself are different. The corners are the most important place of a phone, and maybe your phone dropped on one of its corner, thus causing the glass/LCD to break. Note 3's overall build quality is more than good, so you are pretty unfortunate here

Thanks for replying bro.
WOA....9000 INR which means 14500 PKR that's quite a lot btw my model is N9005 so obviously it is not under warranty will that matter?
And also tell me which case u r talking about? Can u provide any link or photos of the case?
Anytime bro.
Yeah, it's costly. Because of the high quality LCD (or AMOLED in this case) panel used in Note 3. Also you might want to add another 1000 INR with that as my colleague who replaced his Note 3's glass has very good contact and all with the local Samsung SC, so he might have got it for slightly less than normal charge. You just visit your nearest SC and ask, see how much they ask for it.
And yeah, he also has a N9005, no official warranty here either for that, but AFAIK all the SC here in Calcutta accepts N9005 and do what's necessary. For software troubles they ask ₹500 fixed, and for hardware depends on the material which needs to be changed or replaced.
If they don't want to accept the phone as it's the N9005 just tell them you ARE going to pay for it, they will take it instantly
PS: One more thing, I have no idea how the SC people are in your place, but here they are a bunch of muppets. They handle all products like ****, so do WARN them beforehand that to make sure not to scratch anything else, like the camera lens cover, the frames etc. I have had to visit SC twice, once for my S2 and once for my Note 2, and believe it or not both times they scratched the camera lens cover and for S2 they even scratched the display! However they had to replace it for free because of my continuous offending statements, but a hassle is a hassle, so kindly remember that.
I always say, stay away from Service Centres at any cost. But your problem is severe and there's no option but to visit a SC anyway.
Best of luck. And don't forget to inform here what happened.

As it is your colleague have you seen yourself(or can u ask him if you have not)the screen after the replacement.......someone told me that once you replace it(be it any local shop or Samsung Service Center)a gap occurs between the display and glass due to which dust can pass in the gap after some time......is that really true?

Yeah, course I have seen it myself. I meet him once every week.
There is NO gap whatsoever, none at all. It looks one hundred percent same as before, if I didn't know the panel has been replaced I would not be able to tell something was changed at all.
I guess people reply by depending on locations, especially when it's about servicing and stuffs. We use all non contract phones, but in EU and US mostly all are contracted phones, and their service process is somewhat different. However I reply, and will continue to do so, if the query is known subject to me, doesn't matter if it's midnight or I am in middle of sleep. Helping others IS the true purpose of a community
Oh I was talking about the Amzer bumper case by the way. It's a very cheap case actually, just 700 INR, but for small drops it will be more than enough, but if you want real protection then you shall aim for UAG or Otterbox cases, yeah they look awful, especially the latter one, but compromise has to be made one way or another.

Bothering me? LOL, not at all.
It took them three days to get the job done. That's because the display was not available in their possession, it came from Bangalore or some place, that's why three days. They clearly said if they had the panel by themselves they would do the job within one day.

Thans once again!
Hey all,
My friend just got a brand new galaxy s4 on Friday the 8th of January this year. She's had multiple software problems on lollipop, many force closes and heavy battery drain for the last few days. It's been plagued with issues. Now her screen is messing up, there's a clear line of some sort of app imprinted on the screen, she also says a time has been imprinted on the screen where it shows in the notification bar. Is her phone just a defect or is it just lollipop?
Last night she dropped it from about one and a half feet onto the screen, its got a tempered glass screen protector on it but now the screen has those imprints. I've attached the photo. Looks to me like burn in but she said she thinks she noticed it since she dropped it. Surely the S4 couldnt be that bad? What do you think of it? Any way to fix it?
Thanks,
Lachy

If it has a download mode (not just recovery), it should be a real S4.
Humm.....
Looks like a refurbished or used phone..... Burn-ins shouldn't appear this fast, as a S4 owner myself I didn't notice any burn-in in my 2 year old phone.
Try installing Phone INFO from Play Store and do a refurbish test or something like that in the menu section.

Hmm, all of the features are working, air view, infared sender etc. Runs pretty smooth, feels like a legit phone. No scratches or anything. I'll get her to get that app. Thanks!

I agree with you, surely something like this couldn't have been from a drop at two feet though? I'll get her to download that app you mentioned and report back
News
Okay hey everyone got some things to report back. The phone has a download mode, so it is a legit version. I got her to download the phone info app and I have pasted the screenshots below. It was bought at an electronics expo in Singapore advertised as a new Galaxy S4 GT-i9500 for $239. Something weird I have found is that the samsung info app states it is a SPH-L720T, which after I googled saw it was the Sprint LTE version. All of the other apps, including about phone in settings state it is the GT-i9500. One thing to note is that she is on a holiday in Singapore, but has a prepaid card from Starhub (I don't think the LTE bands match up though) and is apparently getting 4g on her phone (tried switching to 3g but to no avail), but doesn't want to check because she'll waste her credit. I find this weird because the apps state different things. It didn't look refurbished to me and I didn't notice the streaks across the lines. What do you guys make of this?
http://imgur.com/a/9YO2l
Thanks heaps!
Lachy
EDIT: She noticed three more lines running through the screen. But now they're more obvious, looks like it's getting worse. Not a great experience for a brand new phone
SECOND EDIT: Her sisters phone also has the line in the middle, albeit much much feinter. Are both of these defective?
It is definately refurbished.
It probably has been repaired with parts from different S4 models and then sold as refurbished. That's why there is no match between the phone model info. This might also be the reason for the various problems.
Edit: If it really is brand new she can take it back to the store for warranty service. Every store offers warranty with brand new products. Refurbished phones also have some sort of warranty I think.
Edit2: The screen might need to be replaced. As for the app problems, check the phone model in download mode and flash a rom (stock rom) for that model. Apps can be fooled, download mode not so easily.

It was sold as brand new. Her sisters states black as the colour in that phone info app, when it is white. And also has 4g. But unlike this one the model number is GT-i9500. On the box I remember it said American version only, for use with american sims only. But then it worked with the one from Singapore. This is super weird :/

Do they have warranty? If yes, send the phones to service. If no, the store is not legit and they got hustled.
As I said, brand new products have a warranty, generally for a 2 year period.

The L720 model is a I9505 from Sprint.
I doubt Samsung would mix parts together..
I'm telling you, those phones are clearly not factory new. They have been repaired with spare parts from various S4 models.

Looks about right. Her sisters phone was also meant to be a GT-i9500 but by the IMEI it says it's a SGH-1337 which is the AT&T 4G LTE. I guess both of these phones were false advertised as the GT-i9500 (even on the box) and as brand new. Looking like they're definitely replaced parts or something?
Yea. The original phones might have had their screen broken so they took the motherboards and put them into other frames. I like to call them frankenphones.
I don't think Samsung would do that. So somebody else repaired them. Factory new phones don't come with mixed parts and used screens.

Yap, agree with @GDReaper , they just assembled those phones with parts that they could find and didn't at least try to flash a new firmware for Singapore before they sell it. And that product name... I think the nomenclature used is jflte for all Qualcom variants and the two or three last words are to specify which like jfltexx for international LTE(GT-i9505) jflteatt for AT&T(SGH-I337) but jfltefreshspr... of which spr is code for Sprint.... but that fresh which means refreshed?????
In my opinion give back those phones and order a refund if possible, if not you'll have to change those screens which where I'm living now still has a nasty price of 130 euro (the touchscreen and the AMOLED one are bundled together) Which will cost almost the cost of the phone....
EDIT1: They probably grabbed some i9500 box or made some with cardboard and covered it with printed exterior and also replaced the broken safety anti-tamper seals for them to look authentic and genuine which they are not.
Other thing is that they just cosmetically replaced those models with i9500, that like i said before they didn't even try to flash a new firmware as they are afraid bricking those devices.
My mother has an S3 which also has the same kind of burn in problems you describe, so clearly this is a problem with Samsung screens, I have never seen this on any other screen except my pals old plasma flat-screen TV....

Well. It's not Samsung's fault it's the natural degradation of AMOLED matrix due to heavy use or prolongued static image display.
The drop did it. I know this because someone I know has a same problem, and I saw this a several times. Also sadly, there is no way to fix this problem ;(

I have an international G935F phone that I use on Straight Talk (AT&T). I took it to the Samsung USA service center to get the screen replaced and they said they don't touch international phones because of different internals/parts. I also called the 800 number and they told me the same thing. Is this accurate? I know US and international use different processors (Exynos and Snapdragon) but I would think screen replacement would be pretty much the same with the same parts.
Policy is policy I guess.

Yep. Take it to a 3rd party repair shop and expect to pay $350 to have it fixed. Samsung won't touch it. Already went through this. Not fun.

When you did this, were they able to use the US LCD/screen part on the international phone?

Yes, wasn't an issue whatsoever. The LCDs are identical.

I have purchased 2 S7 Edge International versions from Amazon - fulfilled by amazon, but 3rd party sellers, one a Dual Sim, and one single SIM. The product listing was somewhat vague, just listing International Warranty, may not be covered in the USA. So, I contacted the seller through Amazon support, and the response was, The warranty is International, HOWEVER, you'l have to send back the phone to Samsung the phone originally came from!!!. I ran Samsung info to find one is a Middle Eastern version with a model code ending in EG (Egypt), and the other is all in Chinese, even the default language in case of a hard reset is chinese (or Korean, or or or).
I've sort of accepted that there is no warranty, and hope no product fault happens while I have the phone. Here is the email from the seller:

correct, you will need to mail your phone outside the USA to the country of origin from the manual to get service. Samsung USA will not honor any warranty
thanks

Thanks for the reply - so, both the single and dual SIM S7 Edge in gold listed on the Technomaster Amazon store, will be covered by Samsung's international warranty outside of the USA- even though your Amazon listing states No Warranty?
Thanks.

Yeah we take the risk by buying these. I wouldn't even bother trying to deal with the logistics of sending these back to their origin for service. A local 3rd party repair shop will gladly take your money. Just make sure you choose one known for high quality work. My screen looks like new again after having been replaced. But again, very expensive exercise.

When I broke my S6 Edge screen, I sent it in for repair. When it came back, I found that in the process they had broken the speakerphone function, so I sent it back again, and this time was sent a new/refurbished device.
My point is that Samsung USA might not want to get involved with an international device, because they are aren't really set up to replace it if something goes wrong.
Just a thought, nothing more!

Dave

Don't know about the S7, but I recall that for one of my prior phones (The S3, maybe) there were enough differences in the internal layout that while the screen was functionally identical, the ribbon connector mounting location was different, and the parts weren't interchangeable for that reason.

To be honest, whatever the internals may be, all the versions are made, guaranteed, and endorsed by samsung - they should honour "international" warranty to the very common and basic definition of the word. Even Blackberry has set-up dedicated phone and warrnaty lines for the Priv. I have had a iphone bought in the UK off a craigslist equivalent website replaced without question at an apple store in NYC. The problem was real, I wasn't the original buyer, the "genius" wasn't bothered, was very apologetic that they didn't have the UK version in-store, but that they would have it in 2 days - left with a new phone for a 8 months old 2nd hand used phone. I'm no apple fan at all, but their customer support is beyond excellent. I know this is all factored in the price apple charges, but the S7 is no cheapie either.
Bottom line, it is pretty poor of Samsung to offer such a restrictive warranty.
Regards.

That is not the case with this phone.
This is an older post but I still wanted to respond to it. Today I experienced the same issue. The front and back screens are broken and my S7 edge is stuck in boot loop mode but after I pitched a fit over here with Samsung USA, they agreed to purge and force the IMEI number to be accepted by their system. They are to contact me in 24 - 72 hours once the IMEI number has been registered. I threatened with returning all of their phones to them and posting negative feedback on their facebook page. Within minutes they offered the above solution.
i have a s7 edge dual sim g935fd the sim lot may need to be replaced. my question is can i replace it whith a dual sim slot reader from a us version or not ?
Hi,
I'm thinking of using the Canadian Galaxy S7 (with model sm-g930w8) in the United States with Project Fi. Will I be able to get OTA updates?
Doesn't matter where in the world you are for OTA updates, it'll just get them at the same time as all the other W8s with that CSC
So yes you will still get them

You seem like you know your stuff, so I hope you don't mind if I ask you a few unrelated questions.
I'm concerned about how long the battery was used, etc., and was wondering if I could send the phone to Samsung in the United States to have the battery replaced. Presumably, it will be out of warranty. Can Samsung replace the battery? If so, how do I find out the cost and the procedure to do this? What if I got a Canadian-based S7 (the SM-G930W8)? Can I still send it to Samsung here in the US to have the battery replaced? Is there a way to find places authorized by Samsung to do the replacement? I don't want some place that will do a bad job or use an already used battery.
If you're willing to share your knowledge with me about this, I'd greatly appreciate it! If not, if you are busy, that's OK. Have a good day!

Unfortunately my knowledge does not stem as far as what Samsung will and will not do in or out of warranty
You could ask them on Twitter
No doubt they can physically replace the battery, but as to whether they would or not is a different matter, you would expect so if you are paying for it, but I've never tried so it would be a guess
No idea about warranty regions either, I would have thought you would have to send it back to the country of purchase if using warranty, but you might be able to arrange something with Samsung after-all they are the same company no matter which country
Best off asking them directly

Just curious. Let's assume the used S7 I'm interested in has been used since March 2016. How many more years of use do you think the average S7 should expect to get. I know, you're not God, but I don't really know how long flagship phones should last. What hardware component should go first, the power supply?
The other thing I was wondering was if you know whether authorized Samsung service centers use genuine Samsung, brand new never used batteries? Where do they get their batteries from? How do I know if I can trust them?

Had mine since August 2016 and it's still like new, gave my Dad my old S5 before this from around 2014 and that's still going strong with the same battery, brother had an S4 which was still going last year, pretty sure they still have an S2 kicking about that works too
Look after your phone and other than rare case hardware failures it should last a long time
I don't know anything about Authorised Samsung service centres, but I would expect they would use brand new official Samsung hardware for replacements yes, otherwise Samsung would be up s*** creek without a paddle if there was an injury caused by a 3rd party battery or similar
And they will be extremely careful about batteries since the N7 incident
