Hello,
I have the i9505 and i have flashed it with [ROM]【4.4.4】Google Play Edition 07-17-2014 - Pure Nexus Edition build now available by @Danvdh and i absolutely love this ROM and works like a charm but there is one thing i am having issue with and i cannot say its a bug as looked over his thread but no one has mention it. i can comment or post in the developer thread due to the number of posts i have, however i come here to ask for help.
When I make a phone call, my screen goes completely black and when i try wake the screen up, it would take multiple times and sometimes i have to take the battery out. The call somehow runs in the background, so if i managed to wake the phone, i have to pull the notification down fast to hang up and this is pain in the neck.
I suspected it could be the proximity sensor in my phone, i have no cover or screen protector, i cleaned the screen and still the same. so i ran few tests to check the sensor. phone detects the sensor but it doesn't do anything.
Thank you in advance
after many research, i have found the issue and its fixed.

you will need to reset the proximity sensor depending on the values. i can say all working now

I am having trouble with my screen turning off when making a call,it happens both in win-mo and also when using Android.
I am using 13th Dec NRG rom and the latest HD2ONE android rom.
As soon as I dial number and pess call the screen goes black and the only button to work then is the end call button,in android it will take a battery out reset or abouit half hour left alone before i can use the phone.
I have done a search but the only thread that comes up is the same prob as mine dating back to June with no deffinite answer.
Does anyone else have this problem, its strange how it happens both in Win-mo and Android I'm at my witts end as to try and solve it,it happens no matter what rom combination I use.
Thanks
Well the HD2 has a sensor near the top so that the screen will turn off when you bring it up to your face, and turn back on when you bring it down again. Perhaps your sensor is broken? Can you send it in for warrenty?
Thats the problem,it does the same even if I am holding it away from my face at arms length,I have disabled auto-brightness too, makes no difference.I have now seen many threads on this subject with lots having the same problem but it still seems there is no deff answer.
If it's in both WinMo and Android it's almost definitely a hardware issue. Maybe there's some dirt in front of your proximity sensor, try cleaning it. If not, return for warranty.
Not trying to sound like a troll here but is the sensor clean? I've had a similar issue before but after cleaning the corner of my screen(skin oils get all over it), it worked fine again.
Another thing to think about is this: Does the WinMo ROM you're using have Co0kie's Home Tab Mod V2.0? If it does, Is the proximity sensor option turned on? If it is then any time anything gets close to the corner of the screen, even a finger, the screen will turn back off.
Sometimes partial data's like this are carried over into Android when you boot.
Check to see if you have CHT and if you do, check to see if that option is enabled. If it is, disable it, clean your screen and see if this helps.
Hi,
I have Xperia arc S. Recently it is behaving in a crazy way during a phone call.
when I call or I receive a call, and put the phone on my ear, the sensor works and get the display off which is normal... but what is not normal, is that many times the screen keeps off and It doesn't get back on.
It's more happening when I am outdoor.... and in many times I need to remove the battery to get it working again.
does any one face the same behavior? any suggestions?
Thanks alot,
I used to have the same problem. It's normally one of two things, either the sensor is obscured(eg some cases, or it's greasy) or low ram. If it's the sensor then it would be pretty obvious, with the ram issue then you can try a ram cleaner from the market, or a ram management app/script, or a custom rom(these all need a rooted phone, with a custom rom/kernel you'll probably need your bootloader unlocked).

I have the same problem. I haven't found a solution, but in my case the screen will return when the call ends. I found an option in the phone to use the power button to end a call. That allows me to end a call when the screen won't activate. I can then push the middle button and the screen comes on.
I have investigated the sensor suggestion, but I don't think that is it. The screen will work perfectly in normal light conditions, but has problems in either low light conditions or outside when it is very bright. I don't think the latter case would be an issue if it was due to a blocked sensor. It is more like the software not being able to distinguish a change in light level either due to insufficient light or being overloaded by too much light. I had hoped 4.0 would fix it, but it hasn't.
Are you on a Custom ROM?
Or tweaked the autobrightness with a tool?
I only had this issue when i was on a Custom ROM that had bugs...
So if its official ROM, try wiping it...
Otherwise it could be just a bug of your rom, and you need to get an update if available
I think its a bug on stock ICS 4.0.4 because I had this problem too and only pulling out a battery would fix this. This happened to me only on pure stock unmodified ICS.
try another Rom, i guess it is your rom's bug
Hi,
I am using red lense defy and CM10. When I use the dialer to call others, the screen will be automatically turned off and I have no way to lit it again during the call. Thus I cannot enter the choices for languages when calling these automatic voice machines. After the call, it will be lit again.
I used to have CM7 on this defy. The dialer worked pretty well. However, Skype on CM7 had the same problem. Now I can use the keyword while using Skype, but the dialer fails...
Who knows a possible cause for this?
Ok I've found the problem by myself. The proximity sensor is not working well. After cleaning the screen it works now.
However, is there a way to disable to proximity sensor in case it is malfunctioning?
Please ask all questions in the Q&A section. Thread moved there.
proximity sensor prob
my defy's screen is turned off during calling/answ. ok, its normal.
but i have no way to get the screen on again!! even not after the call has ended. the red light rom sensor keeps on glowing. i have to re-install battery.
i updated to cm7.2 yesterday. evrything is just awesome!!
before that i was on 2.2.2 official.
also my device's proximity sensor is not working well. between the range of 0 to 100cm, it shows 0 everytime.
same problem during call was there in 2.2.2, but i was always able to glow my screen.
pls help me with this. any way disable the functioning of proximity sensor?
Screen protector?
I know this thread is old but in case somebody stumbles across it like I did. I fought with this problem for about 2 weeks and finally pinned down my cause. I buy large protector sheets for tablets and cut my own to fit my defy. Works not bad. First time I ever forgot to peel the cover layer and got this problem. Before getting too crazy with programming, try removing your screen protector or at least the dummy layer that you remove after install. http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/eek.gif
Hello guys! After a long search on the recent questions in this amazing forum I couldn't find anything similar to my girlfriend problem...
Her Nexus 4 was just fine until the update to 4.3.. After that it started to show a problem during/after calls, the screen turns black completely (even when is not near the face or anything) and its impossible to do anything with the phone after that. Power button doesn't work, and there is only two ways to get the phone working again: the other person hang up the call.. or to hard press the power button until the restart...
I tried already to change for a 4.3 ROM and now I changed it to a 4.2.2 ROM... any idea or suggestions to a possible solution?
Thanks a lot guys!
I too recently had this problem. There was a simple fix after dealing with it a couple of days. My 4yo daughter had been playing with my phone after which I started having the problem. What I found was one of her hairs had become stuck in the bumper and was resting on the screen over the proximity sensor. Once I cleared that, no more problem.
The sensor is on the upper left of the screen.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
If You use screen protector and it goes over sensors, than will be the reason of Your problem. Just remove it.
It could be the 4.3 update. I didn't have any such issues until the update and then they began. AndroSensor confirms that no matter what, proximity sensor is at 0.
Any thoughts on what to do short of RMA?

I can assure you its your screen guard that is creating an occlusion for your sensor on top left. Remove it and it will definitely work.

Not sure if I mentioned it earlier (perhaps in another thread) - no screen guard. That wasn't the issue. Finally, I changed the proximity sensor itself, all bueno. No RMA which means avoiding a bunch of hassles (namely new phone, data xfer, etc).

I bought a used V20 with a defective screen. I change it, everything work for fine, but i notice a strange behaviour with the second screen.
The second screen is always on and i can unlock it by only touching the finger print sensor. BUT at night (or in the dark), the second screen turn off and i need to press 2 times on the power button to wake the phone.
The Knock On feature doesn't work too in the dark.
The light sensor seems to work correctly.
I would love to post a video but i can't......
This is an issue or it is normal ??
Thanks for your help !
Sounds like Doze.
I don't find anything related to Doze or "standby" about this screen.
check "daily timeout" on Show when main screen off. Seem u turn this function on at night

Sounds like there is an issue with the proximity sensor (not light sensor).
It's setup to turn the second screen off as well as disable knock on if the phone is in your pocket. Even during daylight hours if you put your finger within an inch of the sensor when the main screen is off, it should trigger it.
It seems your sensor may just be messed up.

There are a few apps on the play store you can try to fix it if you are rooted. You could also try a sensor app to see if the proximity sensor is showing feedback properly although you might need to be rooted for the apps to show the proximity sensor properly (not sure). My note 4 had a hardware test in the service menu not sure how to do it on V20 though.
Same Issue
Edit: Resolved the issue. Please read this post. There is a small rubber gasket-type thing that sits in the hole of the phone's frame where the proximity sensor is positioned. That rubber gasket was not included with my replacement screen. I pulled the rubber piece out of my original, broken screen, and installed it into my replacement screen. I am no longer having issues with the phone in the dark.
I am experiencing the same issue. I have a T-Mobile LG v20 (H918) and I cracked the screen last week. I ordered a replacement LCD assembly and installed it myself. Everything works fine during the day or in a well lit room, but at night, in a dark room, I experience all of the issues you are reporting. I am finding other posts online with our same issue, but as of yet, no resolution.
Even though the second screen is set to always be on, at night, in a dark room, it turns off almost immediately after locking the phone. It is almost as if the phone is in a "deep sleep" or something, because the following also occurs:
Knock On will not wake the phone
Fingerprint sensor will not wake the phone
Even connecting to the phone via AirDroid / AirMirror the phone doesn't wake
Need to press the power button multiple times to wake phone
Providing a light source immediately turns on second screen and resolves all issues
