HTC Creative Labs Welcomes You to Zoe (Beta) -- Life, Remixed
HTC is filled with talented, creative and passionate people who are empowered to imagine how they can make your life easier, richer and simply more beautiful. Just hold an HTC One in your hand for a few moments, and you’re instantly reminded of how good it feels to know that the team behind all that goodness is constantly working on more ways to surprise you.
Today, we are very excited to announce the formation of HTC Creative Labs, HTC’s internal innovation engine, along with the release of a brand new application for Android 4.4 users called Zoe–a beautifully designed, collaborative video editing application that lets you create, share and remix professional-quality highlight videos with your friends.

New group and new Android app? Where did this come from?
HTC Creative Labs is the team behind some of HTC’s most significant product design work, including the Sense 6 user experience with gesture control, BlinkFeed and more. This cross-functional, cross-cultural group, with team members in Seattle, San Francisco and Taipei, is responsible for crafting the user experience across HTC’s entire product portfolio.
One of HTC Creative Labs’ most beloved innovations for the HTC One (M7) was Video Highlights. We quickly noticed that people often used Video Highlights to capture and share group experiences at family gatherings, music festivals, sporting events and more. With your feedback, and a large dose of inspiration, HTC Creative Labs reimagined Video Highlights into a cross-device platform for sharing and remixing great experiences with your friends.
How does Zoe work?
Let’s say you went to a music festival, like Coachella, with your friends, and you took some great photos and videos. With Zoe and a few simple taps, you can easily create a slick highlight video that has a theme and a mood-setting soundtrack of your choice, then share it with your friends in the Zoe community. Even more importantly, now you and your friends can access each others’ highlight videos, then remix and share them, just as easily as the first time you created a Zoe.
A community effort.
The truly collaborative nature of Zoe makes this the perfect time to invite you to help us make it better. Anyone using devices from HTC, Samsung and LG (including the Nexus 5) running Android 4.4 or later can go to Google Play, download the Zoe public beta and start creating with it now.
Please note that Zoe (Beta) is pre-release software. If you’re not comfortable running into bugs and the inevitable hiccups that come with early software, we strongly suggest waiting for Zoe to reach version 1.0 later this year.
We are absolutely committed to improving the experience over time, with the community as an active partner in making Zoe great, and we can’t wait to start getting real-time feedback from the community throughout the summer. Over the coming weeks and months, we'll tell you more about our plans for HTC Creative Labs and Zoe 1.0, including some blow-away new features and integrations. Please stay tuned!
In the meantime, check out an early look at what we’re building by visiting zoe.com to download the app. We can’t wait to see all of the great ways you’ll create, share and remix life’s most precious moments.
Just got the update.

No its not, its especially made for other devices. read this: http://www.engadget.com/2014/08/13/htc-creative-labs-apps-android/
And I found an awesome site that can download any free apk from the play store: here ist the link for the zoe app for everyone:

EDIT: it seems the link above does not give the right one.
The link from BenPope does work:

Thanks for the heads-up. Downloaded and now it's time to play.

I think we killed Zoe
Edit: It's back!!!
On xperia z2 i can only use the clean theme :,(
The 15 mb version is without all the themes. The version from google store is 63 mb. Haven't found it anywhere.
It doesn't work on my Asus Tf 101, even if i copy the files in Android/data/ & Android/obb/.
I can start the app, but as soon as i want to create a Zoe it crashes. I have noticed, before it crashes it is checking to the internet, because if you disable Wifi it will ask for it.
---------- Post added at 01:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:33 PM ----------
But at the other side, it works on my HTC Desire S, with only the Android/obb/ file and the apk from here.
Both are running Android 4.4 and are logged in with the same account...

Or it just work only with snapdragon processors as good as I remember the Asus has Tegra right?
Asus has Tegra, thats true. Could be the reason.
I think only time will tell.

So I was searching though Motorola's source code the other day for the Droid X, and I stumbled upon a visualization folder. Looked inside, and to my surprise I see folders labeled as "projectm" Which is the open source port of the beautiful Milkdrop plugin for Winamp on Windows (to my knowledge).
So I dug around a bit, but not being a developer I couldn't figure much out.
Today though I was creating a shortcut to an activity in LP. And I saw "Visualization" category In there there is an activity to start the visualization!
I also finally found where the visualization was originally implemented. I reinstalled Motorola's stock music app, and saw the visualizations there.
So anyways, now that I see the source code is already there, and I am trying to learn android development, I am going to try to get it running as a live wallpaper, and also try to improve on it a bit, as it renders pretty low res, and doesn't seem very optimized.
I am not sure if this is a full port, or just enough to run the few presets Moto included.
But at current I figured I would share with you all how to get the Moto version of this app running Hopefully I can get my standalone version/live wallpaper working soon!
Also, not sure if I can post Moto's apk for those that dont have it. someone let me know.

Dude If you actually get this running as a stand alone for other phones I will help fund your development of this! check my other post been trying to get this done for awhile! so happy you made this post!
Please can you send to me the apk via pm?
i also tried to port it on my acer liquid
Wondering how Development was going? I talked to a Dev named kholk who said he would help me and work on this as well.
The Dev seemed really nice and willing to help said he wanted to do it for free.
It's interesting! And it looks funny
Anyway, if we don't have a Motorola phone we can't use them legally speaking...
...but if you upload them and post them here saying that if you haven't got a moto phone you shouldn't download it... well... not your problems
P.S.: I'm looking into it, but this week I'm not at home. If someone anticipates me, well.. good. Otherwise you have to wait for some days :/

Awesome Man! Take as long as want its awesome someone is actually trying to do this was at the gym the other night thinking about how cool it would be to have some visualizations to look at while doing cardio.
Sorry for the lack of updates recently. It seems the project died before it started for me. I simply dont have the time now. (I just got a bunch more web work to do. Yay!)
The source is of course open via motorola, just download the Droid X motorola source code and its in there.
Good luck to whoever tries to do it! And please keep me posted
interesting................hope you get it ported
would be sure to donate if anyone could get this working... Sorry to see you end development WACOMalt =( hopefuly some other devs will jump on this project like kholk! =) donations will be made who ever can get this thing going. Also would be a first for this app i been searching google for awhile and a lot of people want something like this.
Sorry for double posting just wondering if anyone is still working on this?
OH MY FREAKING GOD!!!!! This has excited the **** out of me!!!
MilkDrop (IMO) is STILL the greatest visualisation ever made - it reacts so well to music and continues to surprise me. I've even started VJing with it (although it is very hard with such a limited VJ console).
I would be very interested in seeing this running on Android (specifically my Desire HD) simply for the gimick. If anyone legitimately thinks that they are capable of porting this please contact me. If you can convince me of your capabilities I will donate some money upfront and continue as development progresses.
Good luck been a few months. I think this project is dead in the water
I did a little reasearch on my Samsung Spica
The Droid X source code is here -> https://opensource.motorola.com/sf/frs/do/listReleases/projects.droidx/frs.droidx_source_froyo
The source of visualisations is on the 4th page of files -> https://opensource.motorola.com/sf/...roidx_source_froyo.shado_x6_2_3_15?_pagenum=4 in motorola_external_visualization.tar.gz
I dont know how to compile it, so I tried another method. I've found Droix X rom on XDA -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786541 and I copied all files, that I thaught, have something to do with visualisations. Now I can create a shortcut via Activities in my launcher to com.android.music.VisualisationMPDisplay , com.android.music.VisualisationMPSetings, com.mototola.visualisation.VisualisationDisplay but none of them works. When I try to load Visualisations app, it loads, and then returns to launcher.
I dont know what to do next, here are my files which I copied to my /system/ partition
http://www.mediafire.com/?d23orectf78jr5u
Maybe they dont work, because Spica has ARMv6 cpu, and Droid X ARMv7 (?)
here is logcat showing the moment of launching the com.android.music.VisualisationMPDisplay shortcut: http://pastebin.com/acAv0fck What's wrong?
Hope someone can fix it
I tried doing what your doing it semi bricked my G2 deff want to see more done with this!
this would be awesome on tablets, is there any development ?
thanks
haven't heard anything from any buddy in along time
Wow! This NEEDS to get some attention! I'll try linking some people/devs here! Everyone do the same for their handsets!
I really hope you have more luck then I have had its been so hard to get anyone to look at this and get it working would be amazing if a dev could do it... back when I had money offered donations to devs that could get milkdrop working... no go =/

Well, from what I can gather (from this thread and the few others related to it - just putting it here so others can see it quickly) It looks like it's not so much the Milkdrop files that are the issue, but rather the Music.apk thats needed to run it.
It looks like Milkdrop in and of itself can be just dumped in, but the Music.apk from the Droid X relies on a framework we don't have - and just dropping that into our phones is obviously a bad idea (bricking).
So someone would have to find a way to patch/mod the Droid X Music.apk file to run on our phones for this work.
I've just been PM'd by an apparent DEV who is interested in porting this project. Their username is: AerialX. But supposedly can't post on any forums because of a techincal forum issue.
I can't believe this project may may be getting underway!

Android 4.2 could be just weeks away folks, and rumors are already
starting to circle on what the Mountain View company is cooking.
But careful, this rumors come from a very trustworthy source,
so if you want to wait for Google’s keynote to see Android 4.2′s features,
we suggest you click away. But who can’t help to learn what
Google has come up with this time right?
Customization Center
OEM skins have been solved once and for all. With this feature,
OEM’s can build their skins in the Customization Center and publish them on the device,
leaving stock Android intact. The themes could have different ringtones, backgrounds, launch themes and others of the sort.
Project Roadrunner
Your battery life is about to triple. Google has been rumored to focus a lot on
battery life in this release of Android. Remember how Project Butter increased
the speed of your device and how drastic the change was? Well get ready,
because battery life is about to get an upgrade..without switching batteries of course.
Google Play
Google Play is up next, and the rumor is more features are going to be
added to the ever growing app store. New features include promotional campaign
notifications, easier in-app transactions, more billing options and more.
Google Now
If you want information then and now, Google Now will become your best friend.
But Google Now is about to get even more helpful, with the rumored features of
being able to control the brightness, turn on and off system functions and more.
Video Player
The video player for Android is pretty basic, so the rumor is that Google decided
to update to add more API’s for developers and give it a UI makeover.
Conclusion
There we have it folks, Android 4.2 laid out. Taylor from AndroidandMe’s source
has always been right on the money with other information so we would be
shocked if any of this information is wrong above.
So, who’s cooking the Key Lime Pie tonight?
Sounds too good to be true.

Edit thx
Yeah, I'm not buying this. Google Play, Video Player and Google Now are more like software updates and won't require a new version of the operating system (remember, this isn't Apple we are talking about). The customization thing might be true, but it won't get you the latest updates just like that since the hardware components are different with pretty much every phone, just like ivan1real said. And the triple amount of batterylife won't really happen just because of the different hardware components. There really aren't that many "magical" ways to increase the batterylife unless you know how the hardware works exactly to control the battery usage properly (and even then, it would be up to the manufacturer, not Google, to optimize their drivers).
Also, there have been hints that the next Android version would still be called Jelly Bean much like 2.0 and 2.1 were both called Eclair:
According to this article in Androidpolice.com, the Nexus phone build numbers first letter usually tell you the what the operating system's name is. For example, with Gingerbread, everything began with G, with ICS with I and now with JB with J. So, if the Android 4.2's build numbers also start with J, it couldn't be called Key Lime Pie.
Perhaps request a mod to sticky this. This is sure to stir up some posts and seems like a good thread to use. Great job on the OP though..it's a good intro and nicely done!

You sure you are talking about Android? Seems like you are confused between iOS6 and KLP...
Sounds unlikely. With so few devices on jellybean, it's unlikely that android 4.2 will be released this year. Besides, there's usually only one major android update a year.
like project butter, i forsee roadrunner would only work well on nexus hardware and screw up on other hardware chipsets especially sammy's closed sourced exynos...
Haha. Project Roadrunner. Now that's one thing crapwiz wont take part of.

I don't see much of an opening for a new player in the Smartphone war but good for them for trying.
The name alone is awful. I wouldn't want it on my phone.
FireFox OS maybe.
It's free software, and no DRM, unlike Android. But like Replicant, it won't get market share.
Couple interesting features worth discussion IMO:

I loved MeeGo on my Nokia N9 and its swiping setup. I would love to be able to use it on my Nexus (Sailfish, that is). MeeGo has way better multitasking than Android has.
In my opinion, MeeGo is the OS that just is the most fun to use. Albeit more limiting than Android.

But without any apps to multitask with.
That's why I don't see room for a new player at this stage of the game. Android, iOS and even WP8 to a lesser extent are just too established for a newcomer to compete.

Good point. Though I am not an app person myself. It did have a good Spotify app (homebrew, that could actually search your own offline lists), a working Whatsapp (also way more customizable than any other whatsapp app) etc. It has a fairly strong dedicated community supporting it.
I hope Sailfish can handle Android apps as they claim. There's a Android logo 0:50 into their official introduction movie. I don't thing it will ever get "big". But a nice alternative for phone nerds like me.
Hi,
i'm one of the interested ones.
There is not really a lack of Apps. If we belive what they say, a lot of Android apps should run native on Sailfish. On the other hand there is a good system to port them.
There are not only the Nexus without software keys. The new Motorolla don't have them too. They're also open for developers.

Problem is, Google will not license the play store to them.
So you think it will be to hard for ordinary users to install apps? Don't you think they will create an own store application wich uses the google account of the user to install apps?
Otherwise there is only left to port them.
Props to them for trying. I agree I don't see google letting them into the play store, because frankly it won't help their sales at all. If they deny them play store access, that new os will fade away and be forgotten. If they let it in, then it has potential to grow and be a competitor for google thus taking away from more android licenses being sold.
It will be neat to see, maybe spark ideas for the main 3 os companies to license from and improve. They should change the name so it doesnt sound like you are saying 'selfish' with a strong accent

It will probably function like sideloading apps, youll have to download them to local storage and manually install them. Easy for us, but my parents? Heck no. lol
Looks like Metro and Android had a baby.
Meego should have been alowed to evolve under Nokia.

Some of these features are looking really good! Hope to see it running on my phone very soon.

good os but no devs
hi about the playstore u can hack it to the os and make it think it is running on android and using android phone not a real problem
u can install blackmart alpha or 1mobile market it looks like playstore
the real problem is there is no devs are working on this os!!!!!!!!!!!!!! why i think the android is boring sometimes and had to change it but when i look where to go the ios i hate it (don't ask why) cus i hate this apple but she has a cute phone only the 4s maybe some android ports make it good
tizen looks like bada
bada is app less (no apps)
webos who is care about it
firefox os its only for firefox browser in my mind
wp7/8 it is not open source
so the future os i think sailfish is

You mean a more simple version? Which features would you keep?

Yeah, to encourage people to try without having to buy - it's a weird psychological thing, people won't spend $0.99 on an app they're not sure about, but will happily put down $3.99 for a cup of coffee that might not be that good tasting
One suggestion would be to just include a few topics (50?) and no search, favorites, share etc. But you're the best judge of what you think might be enought to give a taste but still encourage some portion to lite users to buy the full version.

Thanks, this is interesting.
The app is now completely free. You propose to have two versions? We thought of it before launching, but went for the full and free version. We wanted to see how many people who downloaded it. I think you're absolutely right. People are willing to pay "a lot" for a cut coffee that might not be that good tasting, but not that much for an good app. We monitor the situation and evaluate continuously.
By the way, here are som pictures of the app. Do you have some comments on the app as well? Thanks.

Nice to see the app free, just downloaded but it crashed at launch (Nexus 4), is that something others have seen as well?

Thanks for your feedback. Which Android version are you using? We have not received any similar feedback. Did you try to start the app again and let it load finish?
4.3 - I launched a few times and it crashes immediately every time.

Hey, this is awesome app! Maybe you could add sound. You`ll put bluetooth in ear plug and when you are stuck, you just play some topic through smartwatch when you are stuck. Just kidding. I like this App!

Nice app!
It reminds me of IT Crowd tv series - they had a similar app to chat about football with fans)

Hi, thanks for your feedback on the application. It works and the application screen can scroll down to the next fields or sections even when the on-screen keyboard appears. If it couldn't work after scrolling down for input, please PM me and we will help resolve the issue.

I'm using a Pixel 4 XL running stock Android using Chrome and it will not work, I'm sure others will experienced the same thing.
I may PM you.
Thank You for giving back to the community in this manner. This is a fun way to network. My only hope is your brand is open and transparent with the stock system, boot, etc, images, empowering us as users to have the Choice to modify and access root if so desired. The company that chooses to cater more to our "niche" crowd will definitely have my Support~!
Great
my last phone is Find X Pro, hope i get this new one.
I had use x3 before will love to get my hand on x5 to see what is this incredible phone is about.
Woohoo! What an awesome opportunity! I was in the Spark Store in Lower Hutt (New Zealand) today. They didnt even know that the Find X5 release was tonight/Tomorrow! Luckily i was there to update them on everything Oppo, including the concept phones which they also never knew about! Looks like the Oppo rep for Wellington NZ is not very good at their job! Im more than happy to do it for them! hahaha!

yes, me too, having X3 and want to experience X5. I heard that there are quite many new features, especially the photography. Self-developed NPU seems not bad.
