Broken screen?? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My wife pulled her phone out of her purse today (had the phone for 2 weeks) and the phone wouldn't come on, after looking at it, it looks like the screen is cracked, but you can't feel the cracks (See attached pics)
Also, the LED doesn't light up when you plug it in
What I would like to know, is what do I actually need to repair this?
Thanks

Anyone? The LED turns blue when you turn it on.
I know something is cracked, but what is it? If I order a part, what do I need to order?

Thanks!! That's what I was afraid of.............another question, I had it plugged it to see if the charge light would come on, and the screen started getting hot, so I unplugged it, it this normal for a broken LCD screen?

Hello, I'm a technichan.
The AMOLED display is broken and shouldn't get hot. Maybe is the CPU getting hot (normal) and/or the PMIC (it's normal when device is powered on or under charge, but if get too hot it's bad). I suggest to take device to someone that can test motherboard, since the notification LED is connected (together with 3,5" stereo jack) with a different connector than screen+touch screen and doesn't light up while charging or during boot, bad symptom

Dead DHD, I supose this is goodbye... :(

I went bowling during weekend and my good old DHD just went off out of my shirt pocket and landed flat... even the silicone case didn't help, because it just wouldn't turn on anymore. When I connect it to a PC, it recognizes HTC phone and disk but orange light doesn't light up and power button does nothing. I suppose there's nothing I can do, if anyone has any ideas, you're welcome, but I think it is kaput
What would my fellow DHD'ers suggest for my next phone? Really cool new phones like Droid DNA and Nexus 4 aren't available in Europe and Czech, so I figured either One X or Galaxy Note 2. Any other suggestions?
Cheers, I'll still be on XDA in Nexus 7 forum anyways, but I'll really miss DHD and JellyTime...
D.
try to hold power button while inserting the battery.
Thanks for the tip, but no go...
It's sounds funny but could it be possible it fell on the corner where power led and power button are located?
If PC recognizes it, then it's not dead.
I would try to dissasembly it and shorten power button contacts to see if that's the case.

Please try that, your DHD deserves it.
That old girl has a lot to give yet.
With the 4.2 ROMS out there is obvious that HTC betrayed us discontinuing support for our phones, and releasing less powered phones with ICS by default.
Maybe it's just the screen? Seriously dude, I would at least play with it just to see what's wrong...

It is not the screen since the orange light doesn't lit up when I connect it to the charger. I suspect the motherboard cracked, but who knows. As you say, I have nothing to lose, will try opening when I have some time...

I absolutely loved my Inspire 4G for the year and a half that I had her. But I moved on to a more powerful phone (S3). I still have it with Gingerbeast on it. But don't be sad about having to upgrade. Lol

HTC should start putting impact zones on their motherboards like what Samsung does on their devices

Sadly I don't have any tips for you, but I moved on to the note 2 and while plastic took about a week to get used to size was only a problem for the first couple of minutes. Speed wise its the first phone I haven't found the need to root of flash custom rom to speed it up (I still did it for the fun). Long story short I would highly recommend it.

[Q] green light while charging

hello all
my n4 got wet two days ago. since friday i didn't manage to power it on.
today, after i opened it and put it in a bowl of dry rice (heard it can absorb the fluids) i connected it to the charger and after i pressed the power button for few seconds it the green led light popped, but turned off after few seconds. when i press it for few sec and it turns on and afrterwards turns off.
now it's connected and i managed to keep the green light on for the last 0.5 hour. do i still have a chance to save it and what should i do, or it lost?
i'll mention i don't have an app about the lights and didn't root my phone. i also looked it up in the forum and didn't find a similar problem.
thank you very much for the effort.
You should of placed it in rice has soon has possible.
The green LED means fully charged.
When you mean by turns on do you mean it shows the Google splash screen and if so then when does it come off?

Then it seems that the water damaged some components but somehow the phone does switch on for a bit with a working LED, does the screen light up when switching on?

If I were you I would try rooting the phone and installing Slimbean or another rom that lets you disable the LED light. That could shut it off for good hopefully unless the LED lost all connection to the motherboard and it's only getting power now.

My son dropped my tf101...

Now the screen doesn't come on all the way. When you press the power buttton, you can see something lit up(just a bit of light), but it doesn't show my home screen or anything. It seems to still work because I can hold the button down and reboot, and once rebooted, I hear notification sounds. I already took the tablet apart, but not sure as to what to look for. Anyone know what it can be?
99% likely the display cable has come loose - happens a lot when they are dropped, the battery shifts and pulls the ribbon cable out of the board
Easy fix, open it up, find this cable and push it back in

Great!
Funky. I've dropped mine probably a dozen times and the bezel is scratched, dented and a little creaky on one side, but I have no issues with it.

I drew the lock screen pattern approximately where it should be and the unlock alert sounded, the touch definitely works.
The nexus 4 has an IPS screen so if it fell on the floor probably the liquid crystals in the screen panel broke. If touch and backlight still work but the screen stays black this seems likely.
I doubt there's another option than replacing the display.

[Help] Dead screen before and after screen replacement

Hey guys, so a couple of weeks ago I dropped my N4 in water for about 10 seconds, as I was attempting to shut it down the screen flickered and it all went dead.
Fine, so after a week taken apart and in rice the battery is screwed, standard stuff, bought an OEM replacement battery, and then it turned on, worked as it should, except the screen was completely dead, no backlight no nothing.
Again fine, I order a non-OEM screen/digitizer/frame assembly, it arrived today and after being god damn sure everything is correctly assembled I power it on to find the screen is still completely off even though the phone is starting up and working normally (I can hear it unlocking, I can receive calls etc)
Is there another component that has to do with the signal to the screen that may have suffered from the water damage?
Bump. Can anyone shed any light on anything else to try?

My guess is you got a bad screen. There's lots of cheap ones out there. See if you can return it

I suppose it's a shame I can't know for sure cause the new one could be faulty, and the old one could be water damaged in some way.

Hang on, I just realised the digitizer works on both screens, I can unlock it and navigate what I remember from my layout just fine, it's just the display on the new one and the old one, surely that means something else is broken on the mainboard perhaps?
