1. Is there any risk to using Xposed, such as tripping Knox?
2. Should I disable firmware updates/other updates? If yes, how?
I may have more questions as I continue to customize my phone.
Thanks.

Using Xposed framework by itself should not increment Knox.
Firmware updates would normally remove root. So you should consider disabling the OTA updater. If you wish updates, it's better to do them manually. Alternately use Mobile Odin Pro or Super Su Pro that have features that try to preserve root after an automatic update.
You can find more details about these and most other questions that you could think of by searching the forum. It's a good habit to search before posting. A brief search usually answers a question faster than a post or at least enough information to ask informed follow up questions.

I want to root and keep stock ROM and stock recovery and all.
Basically only want to delete bloat with titanium and use greenify.
Will this trigger Knox? Is it even possible?
no, any rooting currently triggers the knox counter

if u r using greenify donate, the xposed installer has to be version 2.3 beta 1. version 2.2 encountered "cannot write /data/xposed/modules.list" error.
i spent quite some time trouble shooting as the xposed forum thread did not mention the beta version on the opening post.
It may be possible to remove bloatware without root:
http://pocketnow.com/2013/01/04/how-to-remove-bloatware
Please note, I have NOT tried it, so cannot vouch for its veracity or safety. If anyone can, I'd be grateful.
after a LONG search I found this link, hidden in about 1300 threads in the General section
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2529064
can anyone confirm this is working for the 9506 snapdragon 800 version? I got my device last night, and now for initial testing I JUST want root. I've not upgraded to 4.3.
there are only 13 threads in this section. wouldn't it be nice to get a tested and working [ROOT] sticky in this section? Root is a basic requirement for us developers (although it has been some time I've cooked something myself )

I had read that thread, but I also read that there were some issues with it (permissions, at least with the 4.3 image). So I don't want to go with that option just yet. I prefer for now the stock ROM.
I am merely trying to get root (and just root) by creating a simple root guide in this forum as a sticky.

as far as I know, and depending on who you trust, KingoApp and VROOT have not been able to produce evidence that they are NOT harvesting IMEI numbers. The last I read is that XDA admins remove all download links to KingoApp and VROOT software. In the past several warnings have been posted about both apps. Unless anyone know that these apps are ok now?

I read from xda and KingoApp facebook page and they claim all of those things have been removed from their app.
Cant say it 100% sure but I am happy that root works with their app. :silly:

in the "old days" we could use something like RootKeeper... i.e., for example root an older version of android (like 4.2.2), upgrade to a newer version (like 4.3) and subsequently lose root, and then restore the root with RootKeeper. Is that possible with this phone?

I havent test with i9506 but with Xcover2 (GT-S7710) I have updated two phones via OTA and root has remain after update.
Possible with i9506 I bet root wont remain, atleast with 4.3 update cause KNOX.
How I managed to root my I9506:
Note: If you updated to 4.3 via OTA, it is very likely that you wont be able to flash custom recovery via Odin.
1) Reflash the full 4.3 firmware that i got mine form sammobile via odin
2) Follow through the steps in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2529064
Warning : After rooting through the steps above my phone KNOX Warranty Void : 0x1
(Not sure if this is due to the SuperSU disabling the KNOX or the actual rooting process)

Hey!
Like in other treads, like galaxy S3 I9xx was talked http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2597774, the 4.3 and later have already KNOX installed and if you install custom recovery or root your device, you probably fire the KNOX warranty to 0x1. Still there no one who was able to reset this KNOX warranty to 0x0, like TRIANGLE AEAY is resetting your flashing counter.
Then DONT install any CUSTOM RECOVERY or try to ROOT your device in 4.3 or later, if you want your warranty(ofcourse if there is already have the way, how to reset KNOX).
PEACE FOR ALL!!!
Hi,
I would like to know if there is any known way at the moment to get a rooted kitkat 4.4.2 firmware without tripping knox. I'm momentarily running MKE 4.3, German csc I think. I'm aware of saferoot for this firmware, but I would like to know if there's something like it for official kitkat, or if it is possible to root my 4.3 and then upgrade via mobile odin and inject root via everroot everroot without tripping knox. If not I'll just update via OTA and root via another method but if it's possible I'd like to keep knox for now

Oké, Thanks anyway
I don't really trust kingoroot as I thought that it had spyware installed, just as vroot, but then I heard about saferoot and I I was hoping I could keep root via mobile odin, but too bad. I'll just just root via cf-root then

Towelroot. by geohot
Does not trip the knox counter..but don't expect to use custom recoveries. It is a simple root only.

Thanks! I read about it in the featured articles but I wasn't sure it would work or not. I was just planning to use the root to clean the ROM up a bit to free up some system memory and RAM and make some apps system apps, better backups and fiddle a bit with my storage, and maybe using some modules, do you know if using Xposed trips knox?

Xposed doesn't... but I would be weary of modules that perform bootloader or deep system changes
Titanium Backup.. and use backup app and then remove/disable etc
Just be careful... if the knox counter is v important to you.

It's not that important to me, I just don't want to trip it if I don't have to, if I need to trip it for something I really want to do I don't have a problem with it , it's not like use knox thanks you very much

Actually KNOX is very important for warranty issues. If you dont have warranty then I wouldnt worry about it. If you DO have warranty then do not mess with KNOX-tripping root methods.
Hi,
I'm new user of xda forum.
My son lived in Dubai and brought a I9505 S4 when he came to Brazil.
I have some questions:
1-I have to change the firmware of the device? (I've seen here in the forum to which each country has a different you for wifi and gsm)
2 - I want to root the device, I can follow the instructions in the post below?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2255190
The screenshots of device settings and CPU-Z are below
Grateful for the attention.
Nobody????
That guide is a little bit outdated.
I would just use this thread for rooting:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219803
Keep in mind that knox will be set to 0x1.
If you don't have problems you don't need to change firmware.

I'm not worried about the warranty, but I wonder if after doing root access I will continue to get samsung updates for the operating system and device firmware.
Grateful for the attention.
No, you have to flash updates manually true Odin.

I needed to unroot (originally Towelrooted) to get an update, now I'm wanting to root again. Is there any advantage to root with Odin instead of Towelroot? Has anybody found any security flaws or any other negative quality with Towelroot by now? Does Odin still trip Knox? Because Towelroot didn't trip mine. Is there anything that significantly makes Odin better to use? Thanks.
How many threads are you going to start that ask the same question? This has been answered for you already. You updated, towelroot will no longer work for you, you need to root with cf-auto root using Odin. Knox will be tripped. You can try towelroot if you want.
There is no reason to make multiple threads for the same thing.

Wow you really need to learn how to search/read all the answers you need are there. Or better yet just don't bother cause it sounds like your just doing stuff for the sake of doing stuff

But he can downgrade the kernel with Odin, towelroot then and re-upgrade the kernel afterwards.
As far as i know Odin still trips Knox, so i don't see a reason not to use towelroot if you upgrade the kernel afterwards.
