VRoot for Note 3

Hi. Universal Root de la Vega's threat was clsoed and Op recommended us to use VRoot instead.
I found this Chinese VRoot and it looks very easy to do. Please see link below (in Chinese language, but you can use Google to translate)

I just want to confirm if anyone had tried this and if it is KNOX 0x0 Root?

Just got my N3 yesterday, mine is MJ7... Will VRoot work with the latest OTA already installed? I've done quite a bit of searching on getting this thing rooted but xda "banned" KINGO cause everyone is freaking out about some Chinese server or exploit threat or whatever, supposedly La Vega won't work after MJ7 OTA... Even though I've been rooting a while, this all has me confused on what really works and what just made it to the forums first but might not work... Any help with legit root and recovery methods would be MUCH APPRECIATED!

If you're worried about Chinese root method than you better stay away form vroot. Even the interface is in Chinese. Kingoapp, has addressed the concerns that some people had with their latest version, 1.1.2. You can check out their facebook page where they explain it all.
Understand that if you plan on using a custom recovery or ROM it will trip Knox and vroot and Kingoapp are probably not the way you want to go. You might look at CF Root instead.

CF Root will trip knox. What I was saying is that if you want a custom recovery or rom, you might as well go with CF Root because it is going to trip knox anyway. vroot and Kingoapp doesn't trip knox because you don't get a custom recovery or rom as part of the root. They let you use apps that require root and do modification on the stock rom (if you know what you're doing).

so will the de la vega root method work for the latest VRUBMJ7 update? If not, what other root method will work that will not trip KNOX? Thanks in advanced

So even with the canadian version unlocked bootloader you cannot install TWRP without tripping knox? Guess i can just use TBU to backup everything instead.

If you do root with one of these methods be careful. They are a security risk. I'd use mobile Odin to reflash my stock firmware after rooting and maybe even factory reset, just to be sure that I'd nuked any naughty apps. Mobile Odin will allow you to retain root.

It still was NOT easy to use, but I can confirm positively that it can work and in my case did not trip knox. I had to reboot the phone manually at one point because it appeared stuck and I tried a 2nd time. The 2nd time the windows app rebooted the phone and it did get rooted.

Has anyone run across this who have upgraded to 4.4.x?
Apparently, in the version of KitKat released by Samsung, without a 3rd party chip installed in the accessory, the accessory won't be recognized by the ROM.

Will updating/flashing Framework require you to trip knox though? Meaning, does it require a different recovery? Not clear in the link you provided. Sorry, I'm not an expert at all on framework and how to get it on the devices.

Well rooting (unless you are on MJ2 firmware) will trip your KNOX I'm afraid but no custom recovery is required only root access, - but if you were rooted, then it's just a case of installing Xposed framework (pretty much just an .apk install) - then open the app, go to downloads and find that mod, hit install and reboot and that's it pretty much

Not a true statement at all that rooting will trip Knox. I used Kingo and haven't tripped Knox at all. I'm just asking if flashing Xposed framewwork requires a different recovery and bootloader which WILL trip Knox as it requires a new recovery. However, I have 0x0 root so, no, rooting does NOT imply you've tripped Knox at all.
I just looked up Xposed and was able to install and run the APK and able to install a few of the add-ons.

Well usually rooting any firmware past MJ2 trips KNOX especially if using CF Root, I cannot comment on Kingo as it was banned and still is banned on XDA afaik, so never had any dealings with it. Plus I tripped my KNOX straight away. Also, from what I have read around, after you reboot when installing certain root methods, it'll trip KNOX automatically (whether yours has/.will is a different story)

[Q] Towelroot or Odin? Which is better or worse?

I needed to unroot (originally Towelrooted) to get an update, now I'm wanting to root again. Is there any advantage to root with Odin instead of Towelroot? Has anybody found any security flaws or any other negative quality with Towelroot by now? Does Odin still trip Knox? Because Towelroot didn't trip mine. Is there anything that significantly makes Odin better to use? Thanks.

How many threads are you going to start that ask the same question? This has been answered for you already. You updated, towelroot will no longer work for you, you need to root with cf-auto root using Odin. Knox will be tripped. You can try towelroot if you want.
There is no reason to make multiple threads for the same thing.

Wow you really need to learn how to search/read all the answers you need are there. Or better yet just don't bother cause it sounds like your just doing stuff for the sake of doing stuff

But he can downgrade the kernel with Odin, towelroot then and re-upgrade the kernel afterwards.
As far as i know Odin still trips Knox, so i don't see a reason not to use towelroot if you upgrade the kernel afterwards.

[Q] Does Towelroot not work anymore? Why is my S5 not supported?

Galaxy S5, SM-G900F (I'm in Europe), Kernel is Jul 3 2014,
I used to have Towelroot. I unrooted, updated to my most current Android version (4.4.2), and since then Towelroot won't work to reroot (it says I'm not supported). Is this so for all others? Is there a way to properly have Towelroot root my device, or is Odin my only option now?

sigh...look, I only wish to know whether Towelroot is dead and/or what I can do to make it work on my S5. I can't look through thousands of ultra specific threads. I'm not a phone guy. Someone just give me a straight answer and I'm happy. Please. You guys are the experts, I'm not.

Towel root doesn't work on the newest firmware, downgrade using Odin to an earlier build then use towel root, use neatroms method to install a recovery and flash a ROM , you'll need to use mobile Odin to flash the modem and bootloader, or you may even be able to do it via recovery if you're on a high enough ROM version, there are other ways to root and install a custom rom. If its just root access you need then downgrade then use towel root..always use a method which retains your Knox 0x0 status.

Thank you so much man, seriously. I really just need root access, so if Towelroot doesn't work anymore I guess I'll just use Odin knowing it will trip Knox. Apart from voiding the warranty it doesn't do anything else right? Any reason to keep Knox? I'd rather keep the most recent firmware, so no downgrade for me.

I don't think flashing a ROM via odin makes you lose your warranty, flashing a custom recovery would, bootloader, modem. But not the entire official TAR file. So you won't have anything to worry about. If it were me id do everything I can to retain my warranty, chances are Knox will never be fixed, so if you trip it then it'll stay that way. There is a guide once you're rooted in neat ROMs thread, its straight forward, just download everything you need, get Odin ready and follow the guide. Should be a walk in the park.

Not disregarding other replies " But", if your not concerned about warranty, and your work doesn't require your phone to have Knox security enabled, Root and flash to your hearts content. Again.... If warranty, is Not a concern, go for it, because trying to maintain Knox 0x0, makes things more complicated than they need to be, nor do you get to try all options at your disposal , and really if you weren't a little bit of a risk taker you would not even know what XDA does.(Odin away, lol) Again just my opinion and if it offends, disregard.

Hi gurus. first off, bought my first note 4 some days ago.. always thought the note series would be too big a phone for me.. what have i been thinking??? this is hands down the best phone i have ever had.. cant remember the last time a phone gave me this feeling..
but I am at a crossroad here.. i really REALLY miss root, but a little hesitant regarding tripping the e-fuse/knox/warranty. havent had a Samsung since the S4 was newly released.
I do not want to flash custom roms, just root stock and debloat and titanium backup, xposed, ad blocking etc..
in this regard, towelroot, stumproot is genius i think, and still able to receive OTA. but does not work on the note 4 of course.
but what happens when Lollipop arrives, seem to remember that the L would be different regarding root? should i wait to root until the Lollipop update arrives, should be here soon for our devices..
do you think there will be a workaround for the e-fuse trippin?
in general, whats your thoughts about this..?
my phone is the Snapdragon, SM-N910F.

Don't hold your breath for a root that doesn't trip Knox, and don't worry about it unless you work for a corporation that requires the use of Knox.
Chainfire had already proven root on devices with LP; I don't see any reason to wait. Being rooted doesn't often seem to be a problem regarding warranty.

I don't care about voiding warranty with knox 1 or 0x1, but I want knox Private mode to work on a Rooted exynos.
Any one knows if rooted knox still works or it must disabled with Titanium Backup?

i am rooted and using private mode just try xsecurestorage by wanam and your good to go
just folder mount breaks the private mode

CF breaks OTA as I found out the hard way, it tried to auto install and soft bricked itself last night. Easy fix, just flash the latest firmware from sammobile.
As for private mode that is only broken if you use Xposed without Xsecurestorage

Can we use kies for updates? Or do we have to flash roms all the way?

Not if it's rooted. Flash using ODIN, dunno what it's like now but in the S2 days Kies was an awful piece of crap, whereas ODIN always worked perfectly.

I highly doubt Kies will work properly, although it does tell me when there is an update for my phone when rooted so it might but I personally wouldn't try it as it most likely will do the same thing as letting it install the OTA automatically and soft brick it

Worked for me when the last update came out, I just updated via Kies while I was rooted. Everything went good.

Did you keep root while using kies?

I was rooted while I used kies to update, after the update the root got removed and I had to root it again with the same method I used to root it before the update.
