[Q] ZVD update - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ultimately, is it okay to allow the update while rooted/unlocked? Tried a quick search but didn't find anything. Sorry if its been answered already elsewhere!

I think being rooted is okay as long as the recovery is stock.
You might loose root after update but the root exploit works on zvd it seems.
Take backup before trying anything though to be safe.
Ps. I have installed twrp and read up on zvd installation process and above is my understanding at the moment. I have to revert recovery which i'm looking for now.

[Q] Atrix Downgrade Question

First off great forum, lots of good info on this site. I have been doing some searching today, but I have not found a clear answer to my question. I have an Atrix that came with Froyo, was immediately rooted, but later updated to Gingerbread through software updates. This obviously broke the root, but i have also begun to experience a lot of application crashes since the update. Nothing will stay open for more than 5 minutes without crashing. I would like to try to go back to an older OS, and i'm interested in trying the Alien ROM. What is the safest course to that destination. I have read that I need to flash back to stock before using the ROM, but i didn't find a definite answer on the safe way to do that. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks.
So you updated through the Ota? So your bootloader isn't unlocked

DO NOT DOWNGRADE! You will brick your phone.
You need to unlock your bootloader, install CWM recovery and then flash the Alien ROM to your phone.
Here's a thread with a great guide on everything

Root questions

Hi all,
I pre ordered my 16gb nexus 7 last week.
And I am thinking I will root it as soon as it arrives, but I have the following worries/questions:
If I root and unlock the bootloader, will I still get ota updates?
If I root and unlock the bootloader, is it possible to re-root it and re-lock the bootloader for warranty purposes?
Is the a large chance of bricking it by rooting it? Or is it quite safe now?
Is the any real reason why I shouldn't root it?
Sorry for all these questions, but I am currently using a rooted galaxy s2, and that comes with the bootloader pre-unlocked, so I am not familiar with locked bootloader lol
Thanks in advance for any help
Cheers corey

Ps,
I also noticed that the are a few methods of rooting the n7, does anyone know which method that installs Cwm permanently is best?
Cheers

Yes you will be still able to get OTA updates, though you may will lose root after an OTA. It's only when you begin flashing alternate recoveries, kernels, ROMs etc. will you lose the ability to receive OTAs.
I'm not sure what you mean by re-root again (maybe you mean unroot??). But from the Nexus trend, you will be able to relock the bootloader after unlocking it (though I don't see a point unless you're about to return it). Regarding the unroot thing, all you have to do is just reflash the stock ROM or just remove the su binary and the su management application (SuperSU or Superuser).
It's relatively safe to say that you can root it without bricking your tablet. These days, it's pretty hard to actually brick your device unless you do something absolutely moronic i.e. flash the wrong bootloader.
Well, to answer your question, do you need root? If you don't need it nor do you understand what its purpose is, don't. Some uses include being able to access /system/ to maybe delete bloatware (there shouldn't be any on a Nexus device), some apps may get further functionality e.g. some apps might intentionally auto-turn on your GPS when you've lost your phone etc.
Clockwork recovery is totally separate to root. A recovery is used to flash things e.g. root, ROMs, kernels etc. When CWR is released for the Nexus 7, all you have to do is run "fastboot flash recovery <name of recovery>.img" (well that's what I'd run since I'm using Linux).
Hi,
Yes I did mean unroot lol, I was typing it from my phone lol.
Ok thanks heaps, I will root it as soon as it arrives lol.
And yes I know all about root, I have a galaxy s2 which has been rooted a year, and I spend most of my day flashing mods and roms lol. I just wasn't familiar with locked bootloader.
But you said that if I flash recoveries I won't receive ota updates, so if I flash Cwm recovery, will I not receive ota updates?
Thanks heaps for all your help
Cheers

Ahh righteo, a locked bootloader just means you can't flash anything. And yes, you are correct, if you flash any recovery that isn't stock and matches with the build of Android, you will lose the ability to receive OTAs.
No worries .
Can it be rooted from a Mac book?? (My bros not mine lol) I always root my devices ..never had a tablet nor a nexus so just wondering..if I can I'll figure the rest

[Q] Recent OTA update

I am rooted with TWRP and flashed the G-Flex mod for the dual window. Stock Verizon.
I currently love my phone setup right now and don't want to have to return to stock, so I have a few questions about this OTA:
1. What is in the OTA, and is it worth taking?
2. Is there a way I can completely ignore the OTA and get it to stop reminding me?
3. If I do decide to take the OTA, will OTA rootkeeper allow me to OTA update and stay rooted?
4. If I do decided to reset my phone to stock, I should follow this guide right? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
Thanks for the help.

Rayglobe 3.2 also have dual window.
I wouldn't take the OTA since you have custom recovery (TWRP). I'll let someone with more knowledge chime in but don't take it.
Theres a certain apk you freeze in order to stop it from loading the OTA reminder but it depends on your phone. Some carriers are different.

thanks, I'll try to find the apk to freeze. I won't take it, but it seems like it keeps popping up saying its going to do it at a scheduled time, and I'm just hoping it won't do it overnight when I can't stop it.
Is the process for removing root or TWRP much harder than the process for setting it up? If its not too much trouble I can go back to stock for the update and reflash all my mods, etc.

my God, 100 people bricking cause that they can't read, open 100 threads about the same issue and now open 100 more for getting a workaround.
Do some reading and you will find the answer cause someone has taken the time to read and write this in general section,

I did read man. I didnt brick or do anything stupid. I was just asking how to stop the ota update. He told me to freeze something and I looked it up myself. Just asking now if its safe to delete fota cache. No need to get upset
thanks, I must be on my forum period, I reread what I wrote deleted it. Thanks for your kind response

I haven't rooted my replacement G2 yet - does flashing this most recent OTA update make rooting the phone any more difficult?
not sure, it seems to be able to reroot. Also read something about rootkeeper app, but cannot confirm it's effectivity.

Error 0x1117008

Hi i have a d800 model of lg rooted 4.2.2 i have read a thread saying that you can update to kitkat even though rooted by calling ATT to push first the 10q update to your phone before pushing the main kitkat update and i tried that called ATT but after they pushed the 10q update i got this error saying ERROR 0X1117008 then it rebbots saying your phone is suspected rooted there is no update for rooted phones...can anyone explain this on me is it really possible to get the KK update even though rooted?
according to my thorough reading of the at&t kit kat roll out thread if you have modified anything it wont allow the install of the update what most people did was return to 10d via the lg flash tool root(and not change anything), update to 10o make sure root survived if not then root, then get att to push 10q check if root survived if not then root manually and then get att to push the 20c(kitkat) and fingers cross root would survive but there were the few which root did not survive and would start all over again hope this helps :good:
Thank you so much for the reply now its clear to me thats why im having error because i modified something..again thank you Zombie i really appreciate it.

[Q] Root access lost after OTA update - LG G2

OK, I allowed an OTA update to kitkat without thinking. Titanium backup and Superuser now report they don't have root access. I re-ran the root process and received a success notification.
I'm new to the rooting game and am sure the fix (if there is one) is simple. I did a search on the web and through various forums and have not found anything specific for my device (which is no surprise since the update i so recent).
I would appreciate any input...or disregard if your feel it was not worthy of a response
Thanks either way!
You'll have to downgrade to 4.2.2 using the back to stock guide found in the general section. Not hard and had to do it myself.
